Henry Rollins says Britney’s voice is blended with another woman’s on her CD

Punk legend Henry Rollins revealed in an interview that Britney Spears isn’t the only one singing on those repetitive video game soundtracks she’s been releasing lately. Rollins says that it’s an “older R&B woman” mixed in with Britney’s voice because Britney “just has no feel.”

“They have the black chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them together,” said Rollins, who has his own talk show on IFC. (Britney) gets her phrasing basically from this older R&B woman. I found that out talking to an engineer. Britney apparently isn’t actually the worst singer, she just has no feel. So they bring in this older black woman who sings the song, then Britney sings to it, and they kind of make a mix of the two voices, and that’s what you hear on the records.”

Maybe I’m naive but I thought they had enough sound wizardry to make anyone sound good without having to blend their voice into another singer’s. Britney is no Christina Aguilera, it’s really the stage shows and her brand that made her famous. Now that she’s looking more like a mom she’s really struggled with her identity along with her sanity and doesn’t seem to know who she is if she’s not grinding on stage in a half top.

Britney gradually seems to be coming to terms with everything, but it explains a lot if that’s not even all her own voice on her crappy records. She must feel like a fraud, but maybe she’s been pushed every which way her entire career and she just thinks that’s part of the bargain.

A lawyer working on Britney’s behalf has been shut down in his second attempt to challenge her father’s conservatorship. There was some confusion over whether Britney actually hired the guy, and Britney did speak with the attorney when her father first took over. OK! Magazine reports that she told him she wanted her “life back.” She was put in touch with the lawyer by a photographer. OK! has this transcript of the phone call she made to the lawyer, and say she spoke in her English accent:

“Basically I want my life back. I want to drive my car. I want to live in my house alone. I want to pick my own security, see who I want to see and make it happen.”

    Why I am not surprised…

We can safely say that Britney is a “Made Star”. Everything about here is fake. I would not be surprised that her voice was tweaked too.

Anyway, Henry got more credibility over Britney anytime.

I absolutely love and worship Henry Rollins and would gladly bear his child….heh heh heh. I am not surprised by this news at all and I believe this same technique has been used by Paul Abdul, and other marginal singers. Listen to “Toxic”– you can hardly distinguish Britney’s “voice” from all the layers of vocals on that track- same with “Gimme More.”

what’s up with the disgusting pit stains on henry rollins’ shirt??

  4. Scott F says:

lulu, only someone who has never seen Henry Rollins perform (comedy or music) would ask about pit stains. The guy is by far the most energetic and intense entertainer on Earth. If you’ve never seen the guy perform, you’re missing out.

Oh, and he’s got more talent in his wadded up gym socks than Brit could ever hope to steal from talented singers.

I love Henry Rollins! I’m a old Black Flag fan from the 80’s.

Saw him perform live years ago, back in 1990, and he was just amazing. I was front & center, pushed up against the stage and he was sweating on me, screaming in my ear, stepping on my fingers (barefoot) – one of the best expieriences of my life! He just goes OFF when he performs.

His spoken word performances are fantastic too, a mix of comedy, straightforward, biting commentary on the human condition, left-wing politics…it’s definitely worth checking him out if he comes to town.

  6. lulu says:

ok, ok, i admit it… i don’t know much about henry rollins..

  7. Trillion says:

I’m so glad Rollins is still in our faces, outspoken and unrelenting. His show is awesome and he gets great musicians on every episode. By the way, “studio wizardry” can fix pitch, but only another human voice can put emotional phrasing in the mix.

  8. mollination says:

what’s the point in him saying that? Why does he need to tear Britney down right now?

I can’t imagine they share the same audience, so what does he gain from saying this?

    Live and let live.

  9. Jojo says:

Yeah, we get it, Henry – the other woman is BLACK. How many times do you have to mention that?

  10. bex says:

i think people should just leave briney alone and stop criticizing her for everything. but i agree she did screw up quite a few times but still…

  11. Gary Catona says:

Blending might not be such a bad idea, since Brit singing talent is more than limited.
