Kelly Osbourne, Gay Pride marshal: “My God loves gays!”

wenn2886718

Yesterday was the big Gay Pride parade in LA, and Kelly and Sharon Osbourne were the honorary Grand Marshals. Last week, we even previewed Kelly’s position when she gave a really good interview to The Daily Gay, in which she gave us a good blind item about divas who use the gay community to sell albums, but don’t stand up for gay rights in general. My immediate thoughts were of people like Miley Cyrus, but several commentators pointed to Kelly’s alleged beef with people like Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry, which are much better guesses. Anyway, wherever the gays are, you know the anti-gay crowd is “bringing up the rear” so to speak, and that’s exactly what happened yesterday – anti-gay protesters tried to drown out the Gay Pride festivities, only to be verbally bitchslapped by Kelly:

Sharon and Kelly Osbourne fought back when they came under attack from an angry anti-gay group at the 40th annual Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade in Hollywood.

Never ones to back away from confrontation, the two reality stars – who were acting as the parade’s Grand Marshals – gave as good as they got when protesters started yelling insults. Halfway through the parade a group of anti-gay protesters approached Sharon and Kelly’s float and started yelling homophobic profanities.

Sharon berated the protesters, taking to the loud speaker and shouting: ‘You should be ashamed of yourselves!’

Then Kelly took to the mic, shouting: ‘My God loves gays!’ Leading the crowd of revelers into chanting: ‘God loves gays!’

A source told MailOnline that the chanting got so loud it totally drowned out the protesters, who left defeated.

‘Kelly and Sharon were amazing,’ the source says. ‘They didn’t look intimidated by the protesters for one minute – if anything, it was exactly the opposite, they relished the fight! Sharon got right in their faces admonishing them and Kelly just started shouting into the microphone: “My God loves gays!” The crowd went wild and started chanting, the atmosphere was electric! The protesters were obviously defeated and left pretty quickly. As they were leaving everyone was screaming and clapping, it was amazing!’

‘Sharon and Kelly are gay icons and they proved why on Sunday – they really are friends to the gay community, and in return we love them.’

The two Osbournes are outspoken advocates for gay rights, having campaigned heavily to prevent the passage of California’s prop 8 – the gay marriage ban which passed in November 2008.

Kelly posed for an advertisement for the ‘No H8’ campaign as well as attending several rallies protesting the passage of prop 8.

That’s pretty cool, I think. I mean, you’re just asking to be shouted down if you show up to a Gay Pride parade and try to protest. What is there to protest, really? Ooh… the “gays” are… what? Getting married? Nope, that was blocked in California. So, what else? The “gays” are just living their lives, unashamed? Is that what bothers people? I’ll never know.

If the protesters are against gay sex they should be for their right to marry because once they get married it’ll put an end to all that sex just like it does for straight people!

Also, that thing Kelly is sitting on kinda looks like the NBC peacock. Just sayin!

  2. Tia says:

  9. Kari says:

  10. Green Is Good says:

    @Jazz: Ha ha ha ha!

  11. bellaluna says:

I’m just curious: do gays ever show up at Southern Baptist revivals and give them a hard time? Because maybe they should. I think I’d actually attend with the gays just to see what happens.

@Jazz – too funny! I actually laughed out loud!

God loves us all, as we are all His creations.

  12. Feebee says:

The hypocrisy of the protesters is totally lost on them. “God” doesn’t make the distinction between gay and straight. People forget the bible and all religious tomes were written by mortal men with all the prejudices and failings of all men… it shouldn’t be taken as gospel (sorry couldn’t help myself!)

  13. Karen says:

Dumbest band of protesters ever! Did they really think they were going to intimidate or out-yell Sharon and Kelly Osbourne? Bitch PLEASE!!

Yay Sharon and Kelly! I’m looking forward to Toronto’s Pride events. Cyndi Lauper is performing…holla!!!

  14. xxodettexx says:

@ bellaluna, thats a wonderful idea! i need to start taking down the names of the groups that protest gay events and/or abortion clinics and start motivating my fellow gays and women to protest their events!!

    @ feebee, ITA

It makes me sad when anyone who’s oversexualized/trashy/crass is labeled a “gay icon”, as though the gay community should aspire to emulate their behavior. It’s people like THIS, like Kelly and Sharon, who truly are iconic, not just to gays, but to the heterosexual community. Gay, straight, bi, queer, black, white, man, woman, whatever, we should be fighting for equal rights for ALL people EVERYWHERE. We all came from the same place, and in my opinion, we’re all going to the same place.

Also, for anyone who believes that the gay community is threatening the institution of marriage–hello, they’re going to SAVE it! They’re the only ones who actually want to get married, now.

    Yay for pride month!

  16. Brooke says:

Kelly looks so pretty in the first shot!

  17. gg says:

    God = LOVE, never hate.

  18. Trillion says:

ITA Feebee. People always have, and I fear always will, attach god to their ideology, no matter what it is, to give it “weight”. Since it’s all make-believe, there’s really no logical, reasonable way to argue any point that uses this empty excuse. I like that Kelly turned it around on protesters, however. It may be the only way to “get” to them.

  19. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

What did the protesters think would happen? The revelers would hear the power of their words and walk home in a daze forlornly chanting, ‘I was cured, alright’? Lower the rainbow flag to half spectrum? Have gay relations at home? God is love, man. No outside H8terade is permitted in His dominion. It’s almost summer, so a strict regimen of chilling out must be adopted. You know ‘adopted’, right? It’s that thing you won’t do half of the time if the kid is darker than you. Who’s going to pick up the tawny through Hennessey slack if you won’t ‘let’ them? Now, return to your domiciles and/or places of business and joylessly grope at your past-it mistress’s sunken old gin tits, because THAT’s what Jesus would do. We’re a family, don’t turn your back on the family.

  20. Rose says:

Well said Trillion, the sooner people drop the deity worship and start treating real flesh and blood people with respect the better.

  21. Thank you, Kelly. My God does, too.

  22. Praise St. Angie! says:

“Lower the rainbow flag to half spectrum?”

oh, that was funny! good one, Jo Besser!

  23. original kate says:

i find it odd that people who profess to be against homosexuality always turn up at gay events, where they can be side by side with lots of scantily clad, glittery gay people. it’s almost as if they like it…

but that’s silly! it must just be a coincedence…right, larry craig?

  24. maria says:

Kelly looks cute. Is that Ronald McDonald on the float with her?

  25. Cakes says:

I think its the whole “love the sinner hate the sin” thing that most churches preach. I dont really get that argument considering being homosexual is part of who someone is and not a choice they make. I personally think that God loves everyone regardless of sexual orientation. My God doesnt love you less because of who you sleep with.

  26. Praise St. Angie! says:

“i find it odd that people who profess to be against homosexuality always turn up at gay events, where they can be side by side with lots of scantily clad, glittery gay people. it’s almost as if they like it…”

yeah, and isn’t it funny how they’re all so concerned about who OTHER people are having sex with? guess they’re not getting any.

  27. Ruffian9 says:

    Kell, you’re awesome.

  28. Devries says:

    My god loves MONEY.

  29. original kate says:

@ praise st. angie: exactly! whenever i hear people going on and on about gay sex and homosexuals and their lifestyle all i can think is “why is this person thinking so much about gay sex?” i believe it’s because they are either in the closet or totally not getting laid. or both.

  30. Laura says:

I’m gonna get attacked for this but whatever…
    God does love gays.
It is a sin according to the Bible, and I don’t believe an all powerful, loving God would let us read a book that misleads us.
Here’s where people get confused though-it’s no different than disrespecting your parents, or lying for selfish gain, or not helping your neighbor because you’re too damn lazy. So in the grand scheme of thing, it’s nothing.
Not to mention, your job as a Christian is basically to keep your own nose clean and not worry about what other people are doing.
Furthermore, God is big on compassion. So I’m in favor of recognizing gay marriage, because I know it’s important to them.

  31. Gays says:

I don?t even understand how I stopped up right here, but I believed this publish was once good. I do not recognise who you might be but certainly you’re going to a famous blogger for those who are not already 😉 Cheers!
