Just in time for the release of the third much-anticipated installment in the pedestrian Twilight series, a producer has confirmed that stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are a couple. Feigning disbelief that people were even still interested in Pattinson and Stewart’s relationship, producer Wyck Godfrey told Time Magazine that the two were in a stable relationship that could be considered boring. Tell that to all the sobbing, shaking Twimoms and their Twitweens.

Everyone is talking about whatever is going on between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Is that good for business?
Do you want the honest answer? I haven’t even thought of it that way.

That’s not the honest answer.
It really is. I honestly don’t think of it in terms of business. It doesn’t affect our core business at all. The thing I do think about is, Oh my God, I hope they stay together. Because it could be awkward on set in the next movie if they have a huge falling out. It’s like, Wow, they have to portray this love story through two more movies. God, I hope they stay together; please stay together. That’s what affects my day-to-day.

But you walk by newsstands and it’s a publicist’s dream: they are on every cover.
I don’t feel it’s out there anymore. Do people still report on it? If you look at people who have a stable personal life, the rags get tired of them. I think we’re heading to that place where they are together and that’s their life and we better find someone new to create drama out of.

[From Time via Huffington Post]

So this guy doesn’t think that people are still reporting on Pattinson and Stewart’s relationship. The young stars are on plenty of recent magazine covers just promoting the film, but they’ve also earned countless gossip rags. Just two weeks ago US and Life & Style ran competing covers giving different versions of their relationship. US had Kristen potentially breaking Rob’s heart and Life & Style had Kristen’s heart already broken by Rob with the title “Dumped!”

The stars themselves aren’t saying much and have only given a kind of joking non-admission to Oprah. Is Godfrey as clueless as he sounds or is he genuinely surprised that people still care? I find it hard to believe that he hasn’t been exposed to the “are they or aren’t they?” hype, but maybe he lives overseas or just doesn’t do his own shopping at all.

Meanwhile there are some new quotes from Pattinson that may come closer to admitting a relationship with Stewart. He allegedly said:

Kristen and I have lived a great adventure together with the ‘Twilight’ films. We are very close and no one can understand what we’ve gone through together the last few years.

“When we’re together, we understand each other so well that we don’t have to say a lot to explain what we’re thinking. Kristen is a wonderful girl.”

Those quotes are from Contact Music and sourced to new! Magazine, so it’s hard to tell if they’re legitimate. Whatever is going on with those two, the status of their relationship definitely affects the billion dollar Twilight franchise. It doesn’t need the publicity though, that’s for sure.

Well, that confirmation was pretty out of left-field. I wonder why no one has not just said it like this before if it is really no big secret? He acts as if it is common knowledge. Odd how he tried to down play the hype as if this has been a known positive for ages, yeah?

But at least people can stop speculating if they are or aren’t, anymore. Clearly, this means they are. Next?

  2. gabs says:

I wonder how they feel about being talked about by the producer. he sounds clueless but its nothing we didnt know

  3. kelbear says:

Did we really need a confirmation?

  4. Marjalane says:

Why do we care? Do we care? I don’t think I care.

  5. bite me says:

    whatever

  6. Snarf says:

GAAAAAAH! There is no relationship (other than a friendship). Thiers is a showmance that Summit pretty much insisted they put on in order to sell repeat tickets to crazed Twi-hards.

  7. pooky says:

Oooh, and just as the new movie’s coming out! I think that’s probably a coincidence, though…

  8. Patty says:

I wanna thank this producer for making the PR stunt even more obvious

  9. Whatever says:

    Nobody cares, except the twitards.

  10. ctkat says:

For what it’s worth, I think the producer is full of it- this franchise is the most important thing to happen to Summit Entertainment ever. The producers of these films are involved in every single aspect of these films, and the lives of its stars. The relationship between the two main stars, which echos the relationship of the characters, is a part of the marketing and press for the films.

This relationship is a big, big deal for the producers of the films.

Several people have pointed out that Kirsten seems to be almost embarrased about her relationship with Pattinson; I have two theories.

    1. The relationship is a showmance concocted by the producers and she’s not a good enough actress to fake it;

    2. The relationship was organic and real, and the producers want to take advantage of it, and she’s embarrassed about that.

  11. Miss X says:

Stewart is a lesbian and is dating her Runaways co-star Scout Taylor Compton who said:”She (Stewart) is so over boys” when they filmed that film. And her tweets and trips together are just the tip of the iceberg.

Pattinson, have no idea who he’s with, but it’s rumoured he had a blonde girl with him in Vancouver in April during the reshoots and there was a huge fight on the set. Between who?- No one knows for sure but again there is talk of Stewart clashing with the Summit-people, Pattinson arriving a day later to Canada etc.

This showmance is created to cover up the sexual orientation of one or more actors and to divert the attention of their obsessed fanbase whenever problems in the production develope like it happened during said reshoot.

  12. Strawberry says:

@ctkat: I think it’s the second one. Definitely get the sense that they’re together, and she’s the one who advocates that they don’t talk about it. He couldn’t give two shits.

Why do I care so much?? I’m a total loser obvs…

  13. Strawberry says:

P.s. why does everyone assume Kristen Stewart is a lesbian? Bec. she starred in a movie with Jodie Foster???

  14. meme says:

I KNOW I don’t care. I haven’t seen the movies or read the books but all things Twilight make me nauseous.

  15. JJ says:

I get the sense that RPatz would should it from a mountain top, if she’d let him.

  16. Tea says:

JJ: I sense he would leave her in the dust and tell her to stop going all Single White Female on him with the name dropping of his favourite musicians, books, dressing stayle, his friends but he is contractually obligated to appear civil with her even when she gives him a bitchface and rolls her eyes each time he is in the same room as she is.

But according to gossip media which only sells “real” romances their behaviour is that of eternal lovers and as long as there are horny immature teen girls and sexually frustrated houswifes and neglected middle aged women this concept of studio orchestrated romance will work and this one proves to be the most successfull.
By the time of the last film this “real” couple will announce their engagement just as their characters in the books.

  17. snowball says:

@Strawberry – some ignoramous said she was a lesbian because she looked “mannish” a little while ago. Whatever. For what it’s worth, when I see her do interviews and things, she just looks sort of gawky and mumbly and shy (how someone who’s been in HW as long as she has can still be so awkward is beyond me).

Totally OT for this thread, probably related to the hair one from the other day that I didn’t bother to read (SORRY!), but damn! That girl is HUGE! She was standing next to Matt Lauer and Meredith Veira and she dwarfed them. I couldn’t believe how tall and big she was. I thought she’d be a tiny thing, considering how small she looks next to Pattinson, but she was taller than Matt and her legs looked bigger than Meredith. I hope it was just the weird camera angle, she doesn’t strike me as fat or big at all, it was so strange.

    Yikes.

Back on topic, I think the producer was being a little coy there. Of course he knew exactly what bomb he was dropping and what kind of press would follow. I also agree that it’s probably Kristin that’s the one who’s been wanting to keep the lid on things; Pattinson seems like the hopeless romantic who’d want to rhapsodize about it all day to anyone that will listen (which would probably kill it).

  18. Nibbi says:

ehh i don’t really give a crap anymore if they are or aren’t. what i really wanna talk about is how they LOOK πŸ˜‰

just, it’s sort of interesting to me how she seems to get prettier and prettier and he slightly less so. maybe it’s just that hideously unflattering red suit he’s wearing or the squareness of the haircut; has he maybe gained a little weight in the face?

superficial as hell, but i’m a little fascinated by the small changes that make people attractive or less so πŸ˜‰

  19. Aussie Mama says:

garbage, they are not an item, never were, never will be.
they are good mates, who have to pretend they are together, for publicity. you can see kristen is pist at having to do this, where as rob handles it better.
    they are simply good buddies.
every “body language” expert that has ever assessed their behaviour, says exactly the same. tere is no signs of intimacy between the two at all, only a good friendship.

  20. chris says:

TO be fair to him, he probably gave that interview to Time before all the gossip rags started up again. They have left them alone for a number of months. They just started up recently again and I think they’ll stop again.

  21. Vee says:

These two make a gorgeous couple. The way they looked at each other during the Eclipse premiere was sweet. They are young and having fun, I wish them well.

  22. becca says:

I’ve been convinced that they ‘ahem’ have “done” it at the very least a few times ever since I saw an old gif of Stew walking away from RPatz at some awards show and he started to blatantly CHECK HER OUT and LICK HIS LIPS.

    LOL LOL.

But other than that….*shrugs* I just want the both of them to drop off of the face of the planet. Stew for being a pretentious, ungreatful b**** and believing that she’s actually at John Lennon status of fame (she thinks she might get shot by a rabid fan *eyeroll*), and RPatz for feeding into Stew’s ‘wahh, everyone hates me for no reason’ stance when she publicly apologized for her r**e comment and then proceeded to negate it by blaming it on the media. Really Stewart? You said something that genuinely offended people. You apologize, say you picked your words wrong, you won’t do it again, and then the conversation moves on. You make sure the media records it, and that way, when they bring it up again – it really is their fault, because you issues a genuine apology. But guess what? You negated it by playing the victim.)
