Rosie O’Donnell gets show on Oprah’s network

Rosie O’Donnell was a great talk show host in the late 90s/early 2000s. She was fun, upbeat, and positive with her guests. Then she got older and grumpier and went on The View. It didn’t work out for her after too many clashes with Elisabeth, and she said some bitter things about it afterwards showing that she wasn’t really over it. Rosie has been around since, and has been vocal about the fact that she wants her own show again. She did try to launch an hour long Variety show on Thanksgiving, 2008, and it was incredibly boring and really tanked in the ratings. Rosie just isn’t funny when she writes her own jokes and she managed to drag down all the decent acts she had booked.

So Rosie is coming back, and she’s going to get a talkshow on Oprah’s new network. I’m glad she’ll be there and not on regular network television.

She’s baaaaack! Rosie O’Donnell is returning to daytime TV with a show on Oprah Winfrey’s startup network, OWN. In a statement released Thursday, Winfrey said viewers can expect a “fun, uplifting show with Ms. O’Donnell’s playful and energetic style.”

There was no announcement on the show’s name or when it will debut, but Rosie has already outlined the game plan for her new series. In an interview earlier this year, she told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ that it will be “a single topic, hour-long show about life, love and laughter.”

O’Donnell added that there won’t be a desk or stars promoting their upcoming projects. “It’s gonna be a lot different, because I’m a lot older, you know. It’ll be a dozen years since leaving my own show when we go back on the air and I’ve grown a lot and I think that it’s time,” she said.

“Ms. O’Donnell” has not been “playful” or “energetic” in some time, and I’m a tinge sorry for being such a bitch about it but I wasted an hour of my time watching her variety show nearly two years ago and I still want it back. I hope all that crap that Rosie spewed about making the show her own isn’t how it will ultimately be run and that Oprah has good people to produce, write and direct it. Then again, we’ve seen how well Oprah manages the shows she helps spawn. She lets the hosts run them however they see fit and then gets pissed off that they’re not doing things to her specifications. If they give Rosie free reign, the result is going to be disastrous.

Her first guess should be Elizabeth Hasselback.

  2. Sumodo1 says:

YESSSSSS! Then cancel the show. Because that’s all I want out of this Sherman Tank.

  3. RosieNo says:

Sounds like Oprah is setting up her new network for failure. I have no desire to hear anything else from this nutcase.

  4. Dorothy says:

I will watch I like Rosie! By the way is that station available yet??? or does it start in the fall??

edit: i just googled it and it launches on 1/1/11

  5. Tess says:

Rosie of the clenched jaw and killer teeth.

Will she interview her guests or just pounce and shred them to a bloody pulp?

  6. YT says:

Darn! I already have other plans during the time her show will air.

  7. NotBuyingIt says:

OMG! I knew Oprah was the devil! I cant believe shes giving this hateful person airtime.

  8. Riley says:

Rosie annoys the crap out of me…

  9. Jover says:

Please not this sack of belligent ignorance – isn’t there anyone fresh, witty, intelligent, straight, gay, black, white, brown, yellow, male, female out there that deserves a chance, but Oprah goes with wornout Rosie. If a neanderthal played baseball he/she would look like Rosie in those pics – disheveled hair and grunting. This is beyond lame – can’t these threadbare celebutards find anything better to do than recycle what they’ve already done with middling success because they need/crave the cash and limelight.

Haven’t we had enough of this raging idiot?

  11. oduroyal says:

I don’t like her now but she was very good when she first started out, I still go on youtube and watch her interviews with Keanu Reeves & Johnny Depp. She did an EXCELLENT job being funny and playful with those guys and making them comfortable especially when you consider that they are notoriously shy/awkward at doing interviews.

  12. Delta Juliet says:

Yeah, she used to be funny and original. Now she’s just bitter and bitchy. I can’t stand looking at her.

  13. moo says:

Well, there goes the Oprah Network!

  14. The Bobster says:

What kind of person watches this loud, obnoxious bullying idiot? The queen of nice? Yeah, right. Cowhead should just crawl back into the woodwork and disappear.

  15. lucy2 says:

She was fun when she first started her old talk show, but then she did just get angry and bitchy. I don’t know if her true personality showed up, or something bad happened along the way, but I can’t say I have any interest in watching her again.

  16. Tazina says:

I listen to Rosie on Sirius Satellite radio as she has her own show on there. Love it. Love her. She’s funny and entertaining. If I can get the Oprah network, I will watch Rosie’s show.

    She – He is disgusting.

  18. Chris says:

I have Sirius radio, and the Rosie radio show is on the air from 10-noon, and the show is then repeated from noon-2. I was not real impressed when I first heard she was starting the show, but she has won me over.
I am not gay, and I say than only because I know there are those of you out there reading this who will say my support of Rosie is because I am gay.
Rosie’s show is both intelligent and fun. She likes HBO documentaries, and she has interviewed a number of directors – Nancy Pelosi’s daughter produced a video about homeless families in Orange County, someone else produced a documentary about the flight from Mexico across the Arizona dessert – and Rosie talked to them both. She reads a lot, and has authors on the show. Some interviews become more about the host rather than the guest – Rosie does her homework and asks relevant, interesting questions.
But the show is fun as well. The show is produced with Rosie as the ‘star’; however, there are several others who are always with her. Some are friends from grade school, and several others are newer friends. One fellow does a great job of creating games which are variations of trivia, but they are great fun.
I love her show. I have listened to it since last fall and I plan my time in the car to coincide when she is on. My last comment is that I think she would be a great friend to have – loyal beyond belief, fun, and intelligent.

  19. CandyKay says:

@ Chris – I don’t think you have to be gay to like Rosie, and I don’t think you have to be anti-gay to dislike her.

She’s not my cup of tea, but better her than Jenny McCarthy, with her anti-vaccine pseudo-science.

  20. Alexa says:

I’d watch Rosie again. I really REALLY enjoyed her for many years on t.v. She was incredibly likeable and so funny before the Trump jousting – people have forgotten.

  21. canadianchick says:

Ro has become too bitter so will not watch this new show.

  22. Gypsy says:

Rosie will be watched, a talk show host who is not controversial is a filed, disappearing into obscurity Host.
We remember Rosie because we liked or disliked her. – but we remember her.

    There will be those who:
    1. Like her
    2. Dislike her
    3. Curious about her
    4. Waiting for her to blow up
    5. Gay friendlies
So she will be watched, at the outset and if the show is good she will be successful.

Edit: Personal opinion, her personality isn’t my cup of tea but she makes Talk show hosting, exciting/interesting.

  23. snowball says:

I don’t think loyalty is one of her strong suits. Ask the lovely ex-staffer of hers that she wished cancer on.

Rosie will do fine if she only invites friends of hers on, so the show will last a month. She talks over everyone, so if she starts annoying people, they start pissing her off and it starts a lovely cycle.

I just cannot see this as good for her or any audience except those looking for a trainwreck.

  24. Snarf says:

I think her first guests should be Donald Trump and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
    The ratings would be HUUUUUUGE.

  25. Bopa says:

The only type of show Rosie should be on is a Nancy Grace type of show where she can rage all she likes. The only problem still is if Rosie will commit to doing the show and not quit after a year or two.

  26. canadianchick says:

    @snarf, so true!

  27. Kevin says:

Hate her, but not as much as Leno. There is no way she could be worse than Chin-boy.

  28. CB Rawks says:

I have one of those talking Rosie O’Dolls! It’s sitting in my garage like a gargoyle right now. What do you think it would sell for? 😉

  29. Confuzzle says:

When did she start looking like Ricky Gervais?

  30. Lantana says:

Next thing you know Whoopi will be getting her own show on Oprah’s network.

  31. original kate says:

    i despise this crass blowhard.
