Tom Cruise calls daughter Suri his “fountain of youth”

Tom Cruise gave a decent interview to Bild (a German publication) about his family. Thankfully, Tom doesn’t act like Suri is his only child, but he does gush about her the most. The full piece (in German) is here, on the Bild site. Once again, I’m trying the Google Chrome translator, and I’m finding it lacking, although People Magazine did their own translating for some of these quotes:

Age is only a number – especially as far as Tom Cruise is concerned. Last month, the actor turned 48, but the father of three admits to having a secret for staying young.

“I love all my children, but Suri is my fountain of youth,” Cruise tells the German magazine Bild about his 4-year-old daughter with his adoring wife Katie Holmes. “We jump on the trampoline together.”

Cruise – also dad to Connor, 15, and Isabella, 17 – said he isn’t afraid to get older. “I’m still better than my kids at basketball,” he said. “One of these days, though, they’ll beat me and I’ll be delighted.”

So what did this man who has everything get for his birthday?

“For as long as I can remember, my mom has given me a roast chicken with green beans. Kate gave me … The Great Escape [the classic 1963 WWII movie starring Steve McQueen]. The children gave me pictures, homemade videos and photos.”

And that, he said, is the gift that keeps on giving: “We paste everything into books, and when I page through them I am the happiest man in the world.”

Tom on his regrets: “I have no regrets.”

Tom on his personal philosophy: “The most important thing in life is learning! You have to take responsibility for your actions. You can not live with regret.”

On his first thoughts when he wakes up: “Where are the children’s kisses? Where are the hugs?”

On whether Katie Holmes is his “guardian angel”: “She is incredible! Strong, loving, talented, intelligent … Yeah, man! We share all things. She is playing Jackie Kennedy Onassis.”

On money: “Money was never my ambition. The most important things you can not buy. Happiness is only the small moments you share with others and you never forget.”

[From People and Bild]

Honestly, I have no doubt that Tom feels younger because he’s the father of a young, active child like Suri. But I also think Tom’s “fountain of youth” comes via expensive, well-done and gradual nips and tucks here and there over the past few years. I remember about a year ago, Tom reemerged after a couple of months of barely being photographed and suddenly his jawline looked suddenly very tight. I don’t think he’s had his eyes done though – but I could be wrong. I think his surgeon has been working mostly on the lower half of his face. Plus, Tom probably keeps up with all of those advances in lift shoes. His high heels are the real fountain of youth!

  2. baum says:

Everytime I see that child I think of The Omen

  3. Dorothy says:

He still looks great, it would be a service to all his Hollywood friends to give them the name of his DR

I like his comment about taking responsibility for your actions and not living with regret.

  4. Wicked SteppMom says:

He makes me ill, Katie makes me ill, and Suri is going to grow up to be worse than LiLo, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and Heidi Montag COMBINED.

  5. Jen says:

Those quotes read like random fortune cookies strung together.

He doesn’t even sound male in these quotes — I’m trying to imagine my DH waking up going, “Where are the hugs? Where are the kisses?”

And how funny is it that the article refers to her as “Katie Holmes” and Cruise still calls her “Kate” — LOL, give it up! She’ll always be Katie!

  6. serena says:

I don’t think he did any surgery.

Anyway he really is a good dad, always caring for ALL his children not like someone -cough nicole kidman- who mention only her natural child.

  7. Chris says:

At what point did Tom Cruise become so hated? Was there a specific incident that kicked it off or has it just been a culmination of irritating behaviours that have pushed so many into loathing him? I know there’s the scientology thing but there are other Hollywood scientologists who don’t seem to get targeted like Cruise does; John Travolta for example.

  8. S says:

that quote about Katie is a little funny…she’s great, talented, intelligent. She’s playing Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

haha there’s nothing wrong with it, but that last bit did seem to come out of nowhere. maybe something got lost in translation

  9. Kitten says:

Why would Suri turn out to be a mess like Lindsey Lohan? Isabella Cruise is 18 and nobody ever hears about her getting into trouble. To compare Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise to Dina Lohan and Michael Lohan is a bit of a stretch….

  10. Statler says:

I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt re:translation too. Otherwise I’m just not getting how taking responsibility for one’s actions = no regret.

  11. Jen says:

I think he seems like a devoted father and a very loving husband.

  12. bnice says:

He’s skeeved me out since ‘Top Gun’, when all my middle-school friends had huge crushes on him. He’s always struck me as a smarmy frat boy. Ick.

  13. Kelley says:

Those large white earrings on Suri look bloody ridiculous. A child that age ?

  14. TG says:

Every thing that comes out of Tom or Katie’s mouth sounds so fake and scripted. Ugh.

  15. Nasa says:

You can call him crazy, but you have to admit that he’s hot.

  16. RHONYC says:

for all the dresses, high heels, blankets and play jewelry they give that kid…seems like it never dawns on them to give that kid a hairbrush, huh?

  17. aenflex says:

Already dont care for him at all. But even more douchey is the fact that he has no regrets. Regret isn’t so bad, I think we need it. Sociopaths have no regrets…

  18. Praise St. Angie! says:

a couple of things…yeah, aenflex, the “no regrets” thing struck me, too.

no sane person can honestly say they have NO regrets. he doesn’t have even ONE regret? sorry, I’m not buying that. unless, of course, he is, in fact, INSANE.

to Chris: I think it was a culmination that began with the couch-jumping. after that, came all of the stories about him “interviewing” actresses to play the part of his gf/wife. not only was that weird in itself, but the people who WERE “interviewed” had strange stories about what went on IN the interview.

then we have him giving Brooke Shields a hard time over taking meds for her post-partum depression…which led, of course, to the Matt Lauer “glib” interview.

plus, when you add to all of that the weird over-sharing “everything is amazing!” relationship he and Holmes have…the mysterious time-line of her pregnancy…some of the $cientology videos he’s made that were leaked (and then mysteriously disappeared)…

    yeah, he’s a nut-job.

and did nobody else get the (unspoken) irony of Holmes giving him “The Great Escape”?

  19. ashleighlauren says:

    @chris

For me, the hate started with the whole postpartum depression thing. It’s one thing to follow a religion that discourages the use of psychotropic medication. It’s another thing entirely to call someone out about their diagnosed mental illness and say that the person should stop taking their prescribed medication. It’s not just rude and presumptuous, it’s downright dangerous.

The whole psychiatry thing drives me nuts (no pun intended) because I do have a diagnosed mental illness (SAD and dysthymia), and I do take medication. I’m luckily secure enough with myself that I can accept my medicated status without freaking out, but I feel like it’s doing a disservice to people who may need medication and now choose not to use it because Tom Cruise says psychiatry is a pseudo-science. And I know, I know. People have to make their own choices. But actor people need to be responsible and STFU when they don’t know what they’re talking about.

  20. Lila says:

The media really turned on him after he jumped on the couch with Oprah declaring his love for Katie. Suddenly he became the latest scapegoat. When he was married to Nicole he was low key. They both were. They were good actors and he had a reputation that kept getting better and better as he shined in more demanding dramatic roles. The scientology thing was always there but was no big deal. There must be some Hollywood thing because he should have been at least nominated if not given the Oscar for Jerry Maquire, Magnolia was great. The one he was in where he held the taxi driver hostage all night, can’t remember the name.

  21. LowSlash says:

I hate it when people say that they have no regrets. What an immature, thoughtless thing to say. Regrets are good! Regret tells you when you’ve done wrong, and reminds you not to repeat the mistake. Don’t dwell on regrets, but don’t deny them, either.

  22. Jeri says:

Maybe he’ll take the sunglasses off when he has his eyes done.

His kids probably don’t know where he sleeps. He should tell them, then us.

  23. Chris says:

Yeah, the couch jumping was downright embarrassing. I hadn’t heard about the medication comments.

  24. Ruffian9 says:

Every quote is manufactured Scientology speak, people. This man is incapable of expressing anything in any other way.

ashleighlaure, the postpartum thing completely turned me as well. The ‘underground’ Scientology videos as well. Dude is completely off the map, he’s so firmly entrenched in ‘The Church’ As far as I’m concerned, he’ll never be credible again.

  25. Camille says:

Wicked SteppMom: I completely agree with you.

  26. gg says:

The Brooke Shields medication thing pissed me off to no end, then his BS about all psychiatry being fake and acting like an idiot with Matt Lauer. The topping on the wedding cake was the ZOMG freak video for $cientology he did.

NUTZ and dangerously brainwashed and stupid he is.

  27. anotherrandom says:

Re: regrets. I think you guys are looking at it wrong. I say I have no regrets all the time. It’s not denying the mistakes, nor not learning from them, instead it’s saying that I don’t regret doing whatever because without it I wouldn’t have progressed to where I am right now. To regret incidents, etc. means you regret the effects it had on your life and thusly yourself. At least that’s my opinion. I’m also thinking much has been lost in translation because otherwise it’s a bizarre article about an already strange individual.

  28. nofreelunch says:

@baum The whole situation has “The Omen” written all over it. Careful while changing the lightbulbs Katie. Kate. Whatever.

  29. Dr_Venkman says:

The interview was done by Norbert Körzdörfer, who is a complete tool.

You have to keep in mind that the interview is done in english, then translated into a form of very “colourful” german, then translated back to english. Can’t work.

Körzdörfer sees himself as “a friend to the stars”, he’s a suck-up who easily spends half a page describing the incredible aura his interview partner has…and yes, he calls Tom Cruise his “friend”.

Bild is far from serious journalism, but Körzdörfer is a complete different class within Bild himself – way out there.

  31. bloobloo says:

  32. hyuch says:

May I comment as a mother of a 4 year old thta thye are no fountain of youth, they exhaust you and make you haggered. Sounds like a man who spends relatively little time with his daughter..

Fountain wedding ceremony ceremony ceremony ceremony cakes are elegant, beautiful, along with ideal technique to showcase the cake as a main focal level with the reception.
