Betty White gets a two book deal

Everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed octogenarian, Betty White, has scored a two book deal at the age of 88. I keep thinking Betty is in her early 80s, (I would guess 70s if I didn’t know her) but she’s pushing 90! Betty’s first book is scheduled to be out next year, and is reportedly titled Listen Up!

Veteran Golden Girl Betty White will share all about her life lessons in a new advice book. The actress, 88, has experienced a career resurgence in recent months after drawing laughs during an appearance on hit U.S. sketch show “Saturday Night Live” and successfully launching her own TV comedy series, “Hot in Cleveland”.

And she is set to share the secrets to her success in a new tome after signing a two-book deal with publisher G.O. Putnam’s Sons, reports the Associated Press. “Listen Up!” will hit book shelves in spring 2011, while a second release, “The Zoo and I: Betty and Her Friends”, will follow in 2012.

The animal book will feature White’s photos and stories about her “animal friends” at the Los Angeles Zoo, where she serves as a member of the board.

Fox News reports that Betty’s first book will focus on “life, love, sex and celebrity.” I wonder if she’s going to dish any dirt that we haven’t heard before. She must know a lot about the Hollywood greats. She did seem to out Cary Grant in an interview on CNN a couple of months ago.

White will appear on the premiere episode of the second season of one of my favorite shows, NBC’s Community starring The Soup’s Joel McHale (a prime candidate for Hot Guy Fridays). White is going to play a batty anthropology professor, and I hope her guest stint adds a ratings boost to a great comedy show that is often hilarious. Community needs a chance, and I’m worried NBC is going to screw it up like they’ve done with so many other excellent shows.

In terms of Betty’s new books, congratulations! She’s such a character and a skilled comic actress. It’s nice to see how much health and success she’s having well into her eighth decade. A lot of want to know her secret – as well as some of that gossip she must surely know.
