Jennifer Aniston probably thinks thesauruses are “not cool” too (update)

fp_5598682_aniston_jennifer_cjny_081810

Okay, yes, I still use the word “cool”. Usually not as a genuine enthusiastic adjective to describe something I like (“Mad Men is so cool”), but more to say something is okay by me, but I don’t really feel that strongly about it, honestly (“Sure, CB, it’s cool if I work alone this afternoon.”) When I’m describing something I really like, I use words like: the bomb, awesome, epic, insane, bodacious, and variations on -tastic, like asstastic or dragtastic, etc. When I’m describing something I hate, I use words like tragic, busted, budget, terrible, horrible, f-cked up, sh-tty, horrendous, FUBAR, etc. I don’t think it would occur to me to use “not cool” or “uncool”. But I am not Jennifer Aniston.

So Jennifer was asked about this scandal that broke yesterday – her former hair stylist or whatever was stealing her credit card information (the lady did it to a bunch of people). And all Aniston could muster up was “We had a situation that was not cool so I just stopped going to her.” Aniston famously referred to Angelina’s 2007 Vogue interview as uncool – “That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.” Someone get this chick a thesaurus, please.

Jennifer Aniston wasn’t surprised when she heard the news that Beverly Hills beauty salon owner Maria Gabriella Perez was charged with fraud for ripping off credit card information from her A-list clients.

Aniston, 41, said Thursday on ABC’s Good Morning America that she stopped working with Perez, 51, about five years ago.

“We had a situation that was not cool so I just stopped going to her,” Aniston said. “I knew something like this would eventually happen because there’s no way you can get away with that. It’s terrible.”

In addition to Aniston, Perez’s celeb clients include Halle Berry, Melanie Griffith and Anne Hathaway. According to a police affidavit, Perez stole $214,000 from actress Liv Tyler alone over a five-month period last year.

Aniston said her damage “wasn’t to the extent of these other girls.”

If convicted on two counts of fraud, Perez (due in federal court Thursday) could spend up to 25 years behind bars.

[From Us Weekly]

Wow, this woman kept credit card info from five years ago? I was looking for a receipt that I lost yesterday! Eh. Seriously though, this woman sounds like a piece of work and I’m glad she got caught. That’s sketchy as hell that she got away with it for so long. Here’s the video of Aniston’s GMA interview. She doing weird stuff with her face and it’s freaking me out a little:

She also talked about the Bill O’Reilly stuff a little bit more, and this time she had a better-prepared sound byte. At first she was sarcastic, saying: “I was actually glorifying 12-year-olds going out there and getting knocked up and doing it by themselves because that’s what I preach.” Then she said, “I just felt it was begging for a response. People say things about me all the time and you go, ‘Oh whatever,’ But this was just not about me, it was also insulting women who are out there doing this on their own.” You know she doesn’t say “oh, whatever.” She says, “Oh, uncool.”

UPDATE: F-ck me, Jennifer also went on Regis & Kelly this morning and she used the word “retard”. Seriously, someone buy her a dictionary and a thesaurus. Here it in context: Regis was talking about her Babs Streisand homage and he said, “You’re playing dress up!” Her response: “Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard!” Advocates are now bashing her – here’s one dude’s take on the situation. She should seriously apologize for this. I hope she does.

At first I thought this was just a plain shirtdress, but that dark trim is fug. It looks so dated!

This shows you how much ridiculous money these people have! Some chick is ripping them off and they don’t even notice it! If someone took $5 off my card I’d be calling them out.

  2. aenflex says:

Call me crazy, but maybe her saying ‘not cool’ and ‘uncool’ is her way of trying not to be hateful or share too much info?

  3. hapygoleslie says:

    saying “not cool” is uncool

  4. K-MAC says:

I wish she would say F*CK just once…that would be cool…..LOL!!!! (I know, I laughed at my own joke and it was on accident).

  5. Jen says:

I use “cool” and “uncool” apparently the same way she does. Oh well.

  6. truthSF says:

    @ Eileen

I would’ve notice if $1 was missing, $214,000 would’ve had that lady getting a through beat down.

    @ kaiser

All that crap these celebrities put on their faces, it’s a wonder they can move them at all.

And this chick only has a 50 words vocabulary. Did anyone really think she wrote that rebuttal to O’Reilly, really?

  7. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I won’t call you crazy aenflex but I am sure a woman in her 40s can express herself without saying “not cool” or “uncool” and not share any information or sound hateful.

Jen just doesn’t know how to express herself well. Maybe Jen thinks its still the 90s who knows? Its certainly a little off putting that she can’t evoke class. At Jen’s age she should try, she would connect with her demographic better. Unless she is trying to connect with self proclaimed cougars who can wear their teenage daughters clothes and hang out t bars for the 21 and up crowd.

  8. Belle Epoch says:

Funny how she says the did the movie because it relates to what is going on with her girlfriends (not her) and how it is so topical (but not about her).

  9. Celebitchy says:

I feel bad that you have to work by yourself in the afternoons! But it’s 8:42 here now and thanks to how cool you are I can take the evenings off. 😉

  10. Kiska says:

I use “cool” a lot too. Sometimes, that is all I come up with on the spur of the moment. I better start searching for a thesaurus.

  11. mslewis says:

Eileen, I agree but stars are not like us. They have “people” who handle their money and I think sometimes these “people” don’t realize what is actually being spent, mainly because these stars don’t want to be bothered with letting the accountant know what their money is being spent on.

That’s why you see a lot of actors who are being sued by the IRS or who sue their accountant for fraud . . . they have no idea about what money is being paid out and to whom. Oprah said once that she “signs every check” and she doesn’t allow anybody else to sign her name or have access to her money. A lot of stars don’t do that.

So, yeah, I can see how this woman could have taken money from Liv Tyler for five years before Liv knew anything about it. Apparently Jennifer Aniston takes the time to look at her money to make sure she’s not being ripped off. So I say, good for her.

  12. lrm says:

I love her dress, and the trim makes it ‘dressier’ and less casual… [see what I did there? dressier and less casual-guess I don’t need a thesaurus, huh?] but the dress is great-i think her red carpet looks are awful and trannie/prom/cheap wedding, but her other appearances and every day wear , are decent and suit her style.

  13. RobN says:

    Weak

  14. canadianchick says:

Great intro Kaiser, I got me some new adjectives. As for Jen, I wish she would stop messing with her face-I think she’s being influenced by a greedy, uncool, plastic surgeon who is giving bad face advice. Sharon Stone looks way better, Jen should give her surgeon/dermatologist a call.

  15. lucy2 says:

Uh…wasn’t the uncool comment, like, years ago? Not much of a story there, but…

The salon lady! I can’t believe that she stole that much! As if she weren’t raking it in by overcharging celebs to cut their hair anyway.
I too notice when just a buck or two is off, I check my credit cards very often. How did Liv Tyler, who is certainly well off but probably not raking in $20 mil/year, not notice over $200K gone? I can understand having someone pay your bills and manage investments and all, but a little awareness of your finances is still a good idea.

  16. Eden says:

    @aenflex
I had the same sense you did of her use of “cool”, like she was reaching for a generic word that didn’t sound too bitchy or give too much information.
It’s a pretty good default word in that respect.

Yes she’s had work done for sure, but nothing overly dramatic or distracting about her physical appearance the way I see it.
She is not frozen in her upper face, doesn’t have big fake lips, tits or cheeks, her filler isn’t puffing out of her face and her personality and style seem relaxed, healthy and confident.
I’m not a rabid Jen fan but she seems alright to me..

  17. Kitten says:

Uncool is the easiest, least offensive and G-rated way to say “fucked up”. If she said “that was really gay” or “that was really retarded” or “that was really lame” then the gay populous, mentally challenged populous, and the crippled populous, respectively, would shit a brick.

  18. Mairead says:

You’d be surprised at what happens to celebs, especially if that person was in a position of trust.

Wasn’t Leonard Cohen left two-steps from destitute by his manager/business manager?

Poor ould Adam Clayton from U2 is going through the courts at the moment because his housekeeper stole a small fortune from him. She admitted a small theft and he forgave her, then a bit more digging was done and she had fleeced him!

As for Aniston’s vocabulary: it’s hardly expansive is it? It didn’t occur to her to say maybe ‘idiot’ instead of retard? And how about saying “a situation occurred/happened, and I stopped going to her”. I don’t see Shakespeare in this one’s future.

  19. eja102 says:

yeah, I’m going to have to go ahead and say that the use of “retard” bothers me, a lot.

says a lot about her. she should have stuck to the innocuous “cool”

  20. aenflex says:

The update sucks…not the update itself of course but the fact that she didn’t have enough sense not to publicly use the word retard. It is offensive to people. She should know bettrer. I can forgive the uncool, but not this.
Now, according to the dictionary, retard means to slow progress or inhibit or something. So it’s our own misguided use of the word that has given it such a negative connotation, so that’s too bad too. I think it would have been just as offensive to say Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a person suffering from Down Syndrome!”

  21. coup de grazia says:

@ love angelina – um, huh?

  22. wonderful says:

LOOK AT THAT SKIN DAMAGE ON HER CHEST!

  23. Rachel says:

This world has become too politically correct! That said, I’m sure she will issue an apology very quickly.

  24. lucy2 says:

Uh oh, Jen better duck, Sarah Palin will be coming for her next! When she’s done supporting Dr. Laura, of course.

In all seriousness though, I totally agree she needs to apologize for the retard comment, and pronto, no excuses.

  25. Kitten says:

Haaaa! I posted my comment before the update was posted. See, Jen? I told you the word “retard” would offend! You should have stuck with uncool.
Honestly though, I would hate to have to constantly edit myself like that…

  26. OC lady says:

So, Aniston had to respond to O’Reilly because he “insulted” women acc. to her? Yeah, because Aniston is a real champion for women. When I think of an amazing woman, I think of that bobble-head who can’t string together one coherent sentence, says the word “uncool” a lot, and stars in movies about impregnating yourself with turkey basters and switching semen! Such an inspiration to us all. 🙂

  27. Annie says:

I cant stand this Broad. That said, Im from the same generation as this dumbass But Im not on TV or famous so no one gives a rats ass when I call myself retarded. However, I was talking to a group of friends recently and we were saying how upfuckingtight the world has become when related to being PC on every little thing. Lighten up!

  28. snowball says:

“cool, uncool.” Hardly worthy of having the dictionary police called out for. I’m afraid I get caught in the rut of using the same words a lot too and I write for a living occasionally. I own a thesaurus too. Many of them, actually.

As for the “retard,” comment, are we still drawing and quartering for that one? I thought we’d done that and decided it wasn’t worth pulling our hair out over anymore. She’ll wring her hands and issue a statement and most people will forget it by the morning.

Well, everyone except those people who have a big boner for making her look like a foolish, desperate and unnattractive woman.

lol – the dress is cute. What about it is dated? If there were no trim, it would look like a man’s shirt, which would make it dated, since that was the thing a year or so ago.

  29. LOVE ANGELINA says:

LOL This update is a joke right? Please tell me that didn’t happen. LMAO OMG this is so delicious it has to be fattening. Ok Jen you need to put down the bong baby doll. I think its in rather poor taste, she is way to old to be talking like that. Jen is either really very air headed or just trying to be edgy? I don’t know. It was not appropriate.

  30. mln says:

Not everyone is naturally eloquent but she is a 41 year old world famous actress couldn’t she take some time out to expand her vocabulary, especially using ignorant words like the “R” word on morning television she is pretty pathetic.

  31. OC lady says:

And, the irony is that Jen promotes a bottled water product called “Smart Water.” The word smart and Aniston should NEVER be used in the same sentence. 🙂 There’s a huge billboard down my street for it. Most of the residents of my city really hate that billboard. I have to drive by her giant half=naked ass on my way to work every morning.

  32. Attagirl says:

She really should take some elocution lessons or brush up on her vocabulary. Read a dictionary for god’s sake! For a woman who’s had a lot of experience as a -quote/unquote- “thespian”, she has zero language skills and the use of the word “retard” is absolutely unacceptable. She’s as shallow and vapid as a pan of water.

  33. DD says:

She should apologize, but isn’t the word idiot offensive too? Idiot was used back in the day to refer to people with intellectual disabilities… village idiot etc… It’s really hard these days to be natural in conversation, and in her defense this word is so common and it’s almost always used to describe oneself or others who do not actually have intellectual disabilities. But there is a group out there who knows more about this word then we do and thus need to be respected.

  34. Granger says:

Who cares about her limited vocab or the funny faces she’s making in that interview (and she really IS making some weird faces) — I just wish she’d open her mouth a little more when she talked. She always seems so tense and clenched. For some reason, it bugs the hell out of me.

  35. Juice in LA says:

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its So Cal people- they use the “retard” word ALL THE TIME!!!

it freaks me the fuck out and I hate it.

  36. Really says:

@ kitten- I totally agree and too funny that you wrote that before the update! The world is going to end- Jennifer Aniston said “RETARD”- gasp!

  37. gretchen says:

I use “cool” a lot too. Sometimes, that is all I come up with on the spur of the moment. I better start searching for a thesaurus.

@kiska, so do i and i don’t care if it’s old, it’s just such an easy comment… like ‘oh that sounds cool’ when someone tells me what they’re going to do on the weekend…however i sometimes find myself saying something is ‘awesome’, now THAT bothers me. LOL is another that i use in print, it’s probably ‘not cool’ but i like it

  38. hahahaha says:

I say cool/not cool too, maybe its an age/generation thing because Im her age and dont see the big deal with it.

It is just a nicer way of saying something like, thats messed up or whatever.
as far as the retard comment, that was a common word too, used the same as idiot, jerk..etc. But of course all the politically correct ppl have to make big deal out of everything and blow it into front page news.

  39. tutu says:

I’m starting to feel sorry for Brad for what he put up with and we all know he loved this chick. My mother once told me, you can’t love something you don’t like. Jennifer never seemed like she even liked Brad. Never any acknowledgement when she won all those awards, she manages to gush and thank he costars but nothing for the man infront of her clapping and so happy for her. There’s only so far you can carry someone and I think he realized that. He is fully living his life with a woman who adores him as a partner and father but she won’t even let him have that too. My mouth dropped last night watching Chelsea Handler when she read a tidbit about Angelina from a tab mag and then said Angelina is evil and everyone knows it and then goes on to say please welcome Jennifer Aniston. The sooner she stops blaming Angelina, sooner she will move on. It’s pretty clear lately that something is not right with her, she seems two-faced and doesn’t really know who she is.

  40. Marjalane says:

Maybe she’s currently on some kind of medication. She was weird last night and she was weird again today, and yeah, something IS going on with her skin and face because she usually looks much better than this.

  41. Shy says:

She sad it because she is stupid and empty headed. And also she sounds like some 12-years old girl. They speak that way. I actually can’t believe that Brad Pitt stayed for so many years with her. What did they talk about? What can she talk about? She is like some smarter version of Homer Simpson. It’s just painful to hear her mumbling. It’s like she has some food in her mouth.

  42. LindyLou says:

Oy vey. And earlier today I said I liked Jen. She has no inner censor obviously if she would spew out that word on tv. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Not just dumb actually – LeAnn Rimes EPIC dumb!

  43. di butler says:

Getting butthurt about some celeb saying retard? Not cool.
First honest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Actors pretty much are retarded. And they all say stupid crap. I think it’s required.

  44. Trace says:

Yeah, those funny faces she makes during this interview is just so awkward and strange to watch. I never thought she was dumb. Yeah, maybe not the most articulate, or interesting, but not dumb. After these comments (especially the ‘R’ word), I am beginning to think she really isn’t all that intelligent. I think Jessica Simpson can probably give better interviews than her.

  45. Mel says:

I don’t know any other actress picked apart on celebrity sites like Jen A. Every word, move and action.

Who cares why she pulls a couple of faces, perhaps her mascara was sticking, maybe she had a late night and was trying to stay awake.

I thought it was upbeat, fun interview.

Can’t wait to see the movie, I’ve loved Jason for years, its about time he came in to his own.

  46. Solveig says:

The word “retard” is so uncoool!
Rachel #23 is right, people take everything too seriously. I’d probably be imprisoned every 5 minutes for my lack of politically correctness.
I like the dress, especially the fabric (silk?) and the colour.

  47. nnn says:

I personnally don’t feel anything wrong with the R word and i understand that she didn’t mean to harm someone using it losely.

However, i also understand that when you are in a public professional exercise during your core business your words will be dissected wether you are an executive or an employee talking during a meeting in front of an audience or a celebrity during an interview.

She should really takes more time to feed her brains expend her intellect and vocabulary in the same way that she trains her body. Both are part of her professional assets and both are equally important, not to mention that it will increase her appeal if she has a little more conversation to offer in both professional and private life.

She has all the time to do so and enough financial ressources to have trainers to help her do it, she has no excuse not to do it.

  48. gretchen says:

something IS going on with her skin and face because she usually looks much better than this.

@marjalane et al: i didn’t notice the skin and face but these pics i noticed her hair which is usually beautiful and healthy looking, but it looks very dry and not so good….also, i miss chelsea’s show but caught Leno when i switched over at some pause on George Lopez (MY FAVORITE!!!! LOVEYOU GEORGE) anyway, the first few words out of her mouth turned me off and i just clicked OFF

  49. bloobloo says:

I like the dress Kaiser. I think Jen does smart casual or even just casual pretty well most of the time.

  50. Liana says:

The sooner she stops blaming Angelina, sooner she will move on. It’s pretty clear lately that something is not right with her, she seems two-faced and doesn’t really know who she is.
    ____________

Wait, so CHelsea Handler does something and it’s Jennifer’s fault and she’s not moving on. OK.

I wish she had not used the “r” word. It’s used so commonly now, though, that really, even with a sister with autism and a mild intellectual disability, I can’t seem to bother getting offended. A lot of states are getting away from using that word in a diagnostic or descriptive manner when discussing people with developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities. Maybe that will take away its power to offend and hurt.

  51. bleh says:

I’m sorry, but I don’t think the word retard is that offensive. People don’t use that word to refer to actual mentally disabled people anymore- it’s slang. You would never hear a doctor referring to a person who is disabled as “retarded” either. Too many people have a sensitivity to words that have changed context over the years. Yes the word is still around, and at one time may have referred to a disabled person, but no one in the medical community uses it, so it’s not a justified medical term anymore. There is a big difference between calling yourself a retard and mocking a disabled person by calling them retarded.

  52. Crash2GO2 says:

That top photo is a bad photo – it is sort of pixelated and makes her skin look bad. I think it just didn’t scan well.

Frankly, I think the beach pics were fiddled with too to make her look worse than she might otherwise. Because in all her pap photos she looks fine.

nnn, I think you’re right. She would benefit from some further education, and has no excuse not to. The mind needs it as much as the body and she would come off a lot better in interviews.

  53. Mairead says:

@DD fair point on ‘idiot’, I was actually thinking the same thing when I clicked back on this topic. Personally I don’t get overly-offended by the term ‘retard’, but anyone who has any dealings with the public knows that it is a term that can cause offence and should be avoided.

Considering that part of this woman’s stock in trade is dealing with interviews, and she is hardly a teenager anymore a bit more cop-on could be expected.

  54. Stacy W. says:

Time for you to get over your hatred for Jen. Very uncool of you.

  55. Camille says:

Yes Kaiser, as dated as the rest of her look. 😆
And seriously this woman really is as dumb as a box of rocks isn’t she.

marjalane: Its called getting older. Happens to everyone eventually. She looks like a fairly normal 40 something, who smokes, tans and drinks, she does not look 25 like the Jenloonies like to imagine she does.

  56. Heaven-bound says:

Here is the definition of the word “r” from the New Oxford American Dictionary
    Oxford American Writer’s Thesaurus
    Retard
    verb |riˈtärd| [ trans. ]
delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.

    How is this offensive?

  57. Sans says:

It’s interesting how since she’s gotten older people have noticed she’s a dumb person. Only interested in fame. When people get older others expect more from you. You can’t keep talking about your boring personal life and same boring movies. Actually she could’ve did some investigation on sperm banks, to give some educated answers. She’s all about having people look at her talk about nothing. Tell her she’s cute and hot, of course she’s not. If that means a guy calling her marriage one of convenience. Marrying her cause he’s getting older and she’s paid, had a good girl image, and was popular due to
pr. Even if it means dating guys that want attention, deal with her cause he can control the relationship, and don’t have to provide for her financially.

She needs to feed her brain and steal KAISER’S adjectives. She won’t though. Honestly I think she has a social disorder. Alot of people are hungry for empty attention, but they grow out of it. She’s 41.

She could’ve said dancing fool. She could’ve said there were some issues regarding finances and she had to part ways with Perez. EASY!

  58. lucy2 says:

“anyone who has any dealings with the public knows that it is a term that can cause offence and should be avoided.”

That’s how I feel too, and that’s why I think she should just apologize and move on. I don’t like the word for a lot of reasons, but it isn’t the end of the world.

I don’t think she’s a genius (I seriously doubt many actors are), but social disorder? Sorry, I think that’s reaching a bit.

  59. denise says:

lmao! she said retard, I think most of us do, but at least we are not televised while saying it. So because of that, she should apologize and I’m sure she will.

  60. pookie says:

I am so exhausted by people forcing celebrities to make big public apologies anytime they say anything that might be remotely offensive or misconstrued in any way. It’s getting impossible for anyone to speak two words without being assaulted by the public. And for every person who is calling for an apology, think of how you speak regularly, is your speech/tone THAT perfect? I use retard regularly because the fact is, a lot of people around me are defunct and unable to function at a higher level of skill or intelligence. That’s all it means. Look it up. It’s the individual that hears it that puts the connotation on it.

  61. laura says:

    The Switch? Seriously?

Didn’t she do this same movie in 1998 with Paul Rudd, The Object of My Affection?

  62. Liana says:

I use retard regularly because the fact is, a lot of people around me are defunct and unable to function at a higher level of skill or intelligence.
    ___________

Must suck to be an island of genius in a sea of mediocrity.

  63. nnn says:

    #60

People are not FORCING celebrities to appologize, they just suggest it because it is part of an unwritten professional code of conduct and out of graciousness to do so when you may have offended a certain group of poeple during a PUBLIC professional exercise using a word that characterize them so loosely.

It’s just being professional, diplomatic and catering to your public image which is after all your primal asset and number one tool when you are a public person.

  64. Diva says:

It shouldn’t matter if YOU find it offensive or not, it should matter if someone else is going to be hurt or offended. Why is being able to call yourself or others a retard so important that you would hurt someone else, regardless of whether you think it should or not. You can blah, blah, blah about everyone becoming too “PC” these days, but why do we have to be so adamant about being able to spew words that cause pain to ANYONE??????

I like her dress and I’ll see her movie when it comes on ON DEMAND.

  65. Rita says:

She is quite inarticulate with a limited vocabulary. Usually her PR guru is sitting next to her out of the camera’s sight giving her cues. A friend of mine heard her giving an interview in Toronto and came away shaking his head. Said he could not believe how poorly prepared she was to talk about her film. The media has usually given her a pass due to her Friend’s popularity and her image as a “cute girl”. Well she is 41, verging on middle age, a woman who should have taken advantage of the wonderful life she has been lucky enough to possess to widen her horizons and she has not.

The word “retard” is insulting and degrading to many and she should have known better. Yes it is used too commonly, but that does not excuse her saying it before a national audience. The only “uncool” person is her.

  66. Sans says:

@Lucy2, I said her constant need for attention and fame is odd to me at her age. Feeding the tabloids stories about dating guys and still harping on Angelina after 6 yrs is odd and I think she has a social disorder.

  67. Isa says:

It’s odd. It’s like she’s leaving her forehead and eyebrows alone so we won’t notice what’s going on with her mouth.

I really love her sunglasses! And I’m glad to see her in some cute shoes that aren’t just a few pieces of string on a sole.

  68. la chica says:

hilarious that she sees this as applying to her “girlfriends”. how old does this woman think she is? lol. the back of her hand and her chest don’t lie. liver spots!!!!

  69. Ellie says:

wow. she used the same word in three years. she really needs to stop repeating herself so often.

i don’t particularly like her as an actress, but the poor girl can never put anything behind her…babies, brangelina, loneliness. give her a break!

except about using the word “retarded.” she’s too smart to be using that word.

  70. Dhavy says:

I don’t think I used the word cool even in my teens and I’m just a few years younger than her. Nevertheless, it shows the lack of vocabulary and that’s not even a hard word to substitute. She should at least try to sound a little intelligent but then again she’s not going to be doing Shakespear in her lifetime.

Am I the only one that thinks she needs lip fillers?

  71. CB Rawks says:

    Damn well said, Diva!

  72. coup de grazia says:

wow, she comes off really weird in that interview. the first few seconds, she looks like she’s sort of mocking george with the faces. and the rambling/stumbling. did she take a valium before this? i think she also threw out a “jesus” in the interview, which i would think most celeb types, esp those marketed as a “sweetheart” would know enough to avoid. and then the R-bomb. that said, something other than plain vanilla coming from aniston is at least something different. oh, and this film is a “refreshing” take on the romcom? uh, no.

  73. Jen D says:

I doubt she was referring to mentally challenged people, but what a silly move. The word is offensive, because it was used to compare people unfavorably to mentally challenged people. If all else, I thought she was better at PR than that. I’m sure the moment she said it she realized what a bad move it was.

I’m wondering how she’ll handle it. I think a public apology through her publicist, then she’ll never mention it again. It might not be something she can get out of by joking about it.

  74. gretchen says:

    @Dhavy: ok dhavy…let ‘r rip…can’t wait… really, dazzle us

  75. mollination says:

Way to bum me out Jen. I’m on your side — like — all the time. So, I guess our ride had to end some time. Good luck because no one else is defending you.

  76. Shy says:

It’s interesting that it’s the first time that she gets soc much negative publicity because of her own actions. And she can’t even blame it on Angelina. It’s twice in a row. And why? Because she SPOKE what’s one her mind. She usually goes to talk show and talk about nothing. But there she said what she was thinking and all her stupidness came out.

  77. Liana says:

You would never hear a doctor referring to a person who is disabled as “retarded” either.
    __________________

Sure you would. It’s still used as a diagnosis in the medical community. It’s just generally abbreviated to MR. On the my sister’s last physical, under diagnosis, it said “Mild MR and Autism”

  78. Kitten says:

I was just having a discussion with my pet, who happens to be a Scottish Fold cat. Apparently, she is very upset with the label “Scottish Fold Cat”. Firstly, she was born in the United States, not Scotland. In addition to this, she dislikes the word “fold” in reference to her ears as she finds it to have a derogatory connotation. Thirdly, she disapproves of the word “cat” as she believes it is offensive to wild felines that are part of the Felidae family. I now have to refer to her as an American Auricularly-Challenged Felis Catus. Can you believe that crap?!

  79. wonderful says:

Okay, seriously though you guys, WHY do any of you expect ANY actor to be smart??? They get paid to play dress up and pretend. Brain cells are NOT REQUIRED! Sure, some of them are smart, but I long for the day we stop asking these fools what they think about anything as if THEY ALL HAVE SOMETHING VALID TO SAY. If you wanna hear their disconnected musings about life, go ahead, but dont act surprised if it ends up being the worst advice/outlook/phrasing you have ever heard in your life.

  80. xxodettexx says:

just jumping into the “R-word” fray!

1- why are people so hyper-sensitive nowadays???

i have a niece who has pentasomy-x syndrome [basically she has XXXXX whereas the norm is XX for females and XY for males… ANYWAY, ALL her doctors including her speech therapist, cardiologist, nuerologist, and geneticist all refer to her as retarded, her brain is retarded, her learning is retarded, her organs and body are all retarded… [thanks to heaven-bound/liana for the definition]

2- i totally agree with everyone that wonders why we are calling on JA for saying “retard” when i am quite frankly over everyone wanting everything to be PC…

    blech

    /rant

  81. aenflex says:

I think the context of what she said is important, rather than just the simple usage of the word ‘retard’. She used it negatively by attaching to something she did that she thought was foolish or stupid. If she had used it in it’s correct form rather than it’s slang form, it wouldn’t matter. It doesn’t burn my ass, using that word, it’s just stupid for her to use in on national TV within a somewhat negative statement. I think’s it’s refreshing to see some people who actually expect more class and intellect from their (supposed) A-list actors.

  82. Cheyenne says:

She didn’t use the word “retard” as a verb, she used it as a noun, and used as a noun it is an insulting term for a mentally retarded person. Don’t even try to pretend you don’t understand the difference.

  83. jennyk says:

maybe its her way of not saying all that much.

although i don’t think it was that “uncool” to say that you were enjoying going to work.

also did chelsea actually do that reading a tidbit from a tab thing? cos thats just low, she really has it in for her. tabs are full of crap, if even 10% of the stuff was true anelina would have had her children taken away. criticise her if u must but she clearly loves her kids

  84. I Choose Me says:

Here’s my opinion. Had she referred to ‘something’ as retarded, in that context, in might have been more forgivable but referring to yourself or any person as a retard is a big no no as it is offensive to a group of people who were born with a disability and have in times past been treated as if they were less than human because of their disability. She should know better and she should apologize.

Oh and Lol at Kitten’s post. I don’t agree with you but your post made me laugh none the less.

  85. Anna says:

    She’s so Rachel.

  86. Mairead says:

@ Kitten (No. 78). Well, it’s no more than you deserve. Imagine thinking that she is YOUR pet!!!! After all the hard work she put into training you into being a halfway decent human serf. 😯

You can’t just go around upsetting the natural order of things you know!
    😆

  87. Kitty2000 says:

Oh crap. I use cool, and *the shame* groovy sometimes. And crap. I am so not with it like all you young’uns.

  88. Jazmin says:

She is so fake & has restless leg syndrome.
In all sitting interviews she won’t stop moving her feet.
Every time she touches her hair, that’s a clue a lie has been told or some truths covered up.
Also, she got herself an emerald ring just like Angelina’s.
I honestly don’t know how she keeps getting work in Hollywood.

  89. Lila says:

Let’s look at the bright side of her using the “R” word. At least she described herself accurately.

I don’t get her using an insensitive word like that when you are a popular entertainer. You have to know people will be upset! Why do it?

I’m beginning to think that she is on something, or really that slow. She sounds like a little child not a grown woman. Her interviews are painful. WHY does she keep doing so many interviews if she’s so bad at it? Why not take a break, or take a lesson from a speaker, have a speech writer write something for you, etc. No excuses for her in my opinion.
