Miley Cyrus wants Hannah Montana to be like Sex & The City

Despite reports that Disney planned to keep 15 year-old superstar Miley Cyrus out of the spotlight after her controversial backless photo in Vanity Fair, she will go ahead with a planned concert at Walt Disney World on Sunday. E! Online reports that Miley has been in Nashville working on the Hannah Montana movie and that she’ll play the show at Disney World as scheduled. Paparazzi caught up with Miley outside a Target in Nashville, Tennessee and she was friendly and said “no comment” when asked about the Vanity Fair photos.

I checked the Disney World website and it was hard to navigate so I can’t be sure, but I couldn’t find the concert listed under the Live Events section or the park’s calendar.

There’s a story that’s hopefully misquoted, because Miley definitely doesn’t need the bad publicity, but she supposedly said she wants her show Hannah Montana to be more like Sex and The City - like, the friends part not the sex part. Disney producers are going to love this:

Despite the young impressionable market she is selling to, Cyrus wants her show to go in a direction more akin to the adult themes of New York based Sex And The City.

However, she denies wanting to make Hannah Montana’s situations raunchy like Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. She explains via Wenn: “Obviously not the scenarios.

“But, if you watch Sex and the City, like the way the friends are, the way that it’s dry and they all have distinct characters - that’s a thing we try to do on our show. It’s my favourite show! I love it!”

[From Entertainmentwise]

It’s unclear if this quote is in Vanity Fair or if it’s from another interview, but it’s a pretty dumb thing to say given all the issues she’s having with the sort-of racy photos. Hopefully she said this before the photo controversy, but even so it’s foolish to say you want to make a kids’ show more like an adult one with sexual themes. She clarified that she wanted to have those kind of female friendships on her show, but she shouldn’t have used a cable show some consider raunchy as an example. Maybe Miley is deliberately testing the boundaries of her wholesome image and isn’t as much of a pawn in all this as some people would like to believe.

Update: People reports that Miley did say this in Vanity Fair, but that she watches the edited version on TBS. They also clarify that she will be playing at the 2008 Disney Channel games.

Miley Cyrus is shown at “Idol Gives Back” on 4/8/08, thanks to PRPhotos.

  1. Which is why 15 year olds aren’t involved in business decisions…

I’d like to call a moratorium on Miley Cyrus posts, please CB. Unless she get killed or suddenly gives birth to Elvis’s three-headed alien space child- I’d rather not hear about every petulant, adolescent brain fart that drifts through her tiny mind.

  2. Can we get one pic of this girl without the chipmunk cheeks and beaver teeth veneers?

I didn’t think I could dislike a child this much but there you have it.

  3. Can I second that? Really overkill here. All out of interest in this kid, her pics, her career, her family and her dumb babble.

  4. If I see her flashing that peace/victory (not sure which one she means) sign again, or have to look at exposed parts of her pubescent body, or see the duck lips expression with the big longing puppy dog eyes, I will puke.

  8. WTF is a fifteen year old doing watching SATC, even the edited version? I’m getting less and less surprised that she continues to get herself into situations that are too ‘mature’ (whored-up, whored-out) for her age.

  10. Seriously, what’s with the peace sign? Doesn’t Lohan flash that all over town, too? It makes them look even more ridiculous than usual, and that’s no small feat.

  12. she is just 15, and learning from interviews, you can’t get them right every time, i think she should have put it in terms of sisterhood of the traveling pants, sex and the city was probably the first thing that came to mind, its crazy how disney is sketched because of a backless photo but jamie lynn gets pregnant and keeps her nickelodeon show

  17. The friendships in Sex and the City are amazing, Hannah Montana will never be that amazing. Ever. What does she expect from the Disney Channel anyway? Even if it’s not about the sex (which is only a small portion of the show, believe it or not), the friendships are too amazing for Disney channel. Ridiculous.

  18. Thank you CB for freezing the Miley posts on here for a while…
I’m tired of this girl. She has taken Paris Hilton AND Nicole Richie AND Lindsay Lohan’s “celebrity scandal space” in just a few weeks time. And that is never a good thing!

  20. What’s so bad about what she said? Most shows talk about sex anyway, and TBS really does take all the raunchy parts out. She does specify which aspect of the show she wants to emulate, which seems to be the banter and friendship.

  21. okay this miley cyrus crap gets me so fucking annnoyed, she’s obviously ugly, so she does stupid things to get attencion, from the moment i saw the 1st hannah episode, iknew she was gonna turn ouut like a little whore..she should’nt of dated nick, he’s way too good for her, and my uncle sttages her shows and says her voice that she uses like this recorded voice, and you could totally tell since she has that stupid accent which pisses me off, and her voice when she sings, theres like NO ACCENT. whatever she’s a whore, bye.
