Angelina Jolie does a PSA for Pakistan’s devastating floods

Below is a new PSA from Angelina Jolie that she did on behalf of the UNHCR’s efforts in Pakistan. Pakistan has sustained substantial flooding that has killed thousands and left millions homeless. While Angelina was on the European tour for Salt, it was announced that she had donated $100,000 to the UNHCR’s efforts in Pakistan, and now she is making an international plea for money and attention directed towards Pakistan. In the PSA, Jolie says, “This is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is an economic and social catastrophe. The more support we can give, the greater number of tents, food, clean water and medicine will get to the people in need.”

Once you get past the bangs trauma (just me?) and the low-budget style that makes the video seem like it’s a tape made by someone being held hostage in a dank basement, the message is solid.

I’m glad SOMEONE is bringing it the The USA’s attention. Everyone is so caught up in the Ground Zero Mosque and 5 year anniversary of Katrina (which, I’m not downplaying by any means at all), nobody is talking about this. This is a terrible disaster-just as big as Haiti, yet because it is Pakistan, it is getting zero press time. Good for Jolie.

Just in case anyone else can’t get past the “bangs” and “the low budget style” of a PSA video. I mean yea they could have pimped the video out, put some refugees in torn clothing in the background. Had Angie standing in some flooded area in Pakistan. They should have had Angie blinged blinged out and she should have stopped by the Ken Paves salon before filming this. I mean a slide show of the flood nearly up to people’s roofs, people with their hands out stretched desperate to be rescued, and kids sitting in a dirty street under a blue piece of plastic is so “low budget.”

So if you can get past all that just focus on the fact they have lost their homes and little possessions. They are sick and have no medicine. More importantly they have little to no shelter. Thanks Angie and UNCHR for the video but you and the UNCHR gotta get some better directors and some better set people, some stylists. I mean come on M Night Shamalyan is in need of some work, he could have made this interesting.

  3. Praise St. Angie! says:

lol…love the impish grin in the first pic.

she’s like “I’m taking this big piece o’man home with me!”

Good for her – the more attention brought to these disasters, the better.

agree on the “bangs trauma”…I don’t think they suit her, but perhaps she’s self-conscious about her large forehead?

I don’t like her at all. And yes, that 1st pic is very scary. Country teeth. But let’s give her some much due kudos for her humanitarian efforts. You have to really care about this stuff to witness it 1st hand, it’s wrenching. And for her to use her fame to bring more focus on people in need – well I think that’s the BEST way to use fame. Others should take a lesson from her.

Um, I knew about the disaster in Pakistan before Jolie’s PSA, but I do commend her for doing it (SEE I can say a nice thing about St. Angie Ho LOL)

That said the US economy is in shambles and alot of Americans are out of work or barely making ends meet and I wouldn’t expect them to contribute.

she hasn’t been looking so good lately. Waaaaaay to thin. Her hair looks thin. Her nose job looks terrible. Ladies, SOME fat…is good. Emanciated look is so not cute.

But kudos on Pakistan. I watched a snippet on the BBC a few nights ago, it’s just terrible. The mud is still feet deep in peoples homes. (but I did note, all their clothing were clean. and those guys wear really long dress type clothing. makes ya go hmmmmmmm)

p.s. I still maintain, that if I had her “power/influence”, I would be bringing attention to the global problem of sex crimes against children and others. Human trafficking is THE #1 commodity across this universe, as well as THE most henious. I’m just saying.

Thanks for posting the ways and means to help the cause, Kaiser. I can tell you that this disaster is every bit as bad and worse as the PSA says. The flood waters are now receding and the cleanup is going to start… so only now will we see how bad things really are. And the children are starting to die from gastroenteritis already…

A lot of people who could and did contribute to Haiti don’t want to contribute anything to Pakistan. Islamophobia is playing a large part in this.

Maybe it’s partially Islamophobia but it’s also fear of terrorists. The world’s falling apart.

  14. mslewis says:

@cara . . . Angelina has spoken out and done PSAs on sex trafficking for many years. Angelina does a lot for many, many people who have few people speaking for them.

I really think money will begin to flow from around the world to help Pakistan. Americans are very generous and they will give. So will the Brits and French and people of other countries will do what they can.

Guys….just lead me to where I can find Ang’s stuff on sex trafficking. I’m usually fillied with TONS of “useless information” and am shocked at myself for missing that one. I know Mira Sorvino is involved in bringing awareness to human trafficking, but I’ve yet to see these psa’s. Please post a link, etc.

    Thanks ;)

To commenters negative remarks about Angie, just show how shallow and conceited you all are that you have to go on about the veins that come and go, bangs to hide forehead, country teeth (this is a new one, I wonder where they can be purchased) way too thin, thinning hair, nose job looks terrible, low budget video. What does all of this have to do with the message being conveyed. Oh so superficial, oh so sad.

Uh, SHORTY…..I said her hair seems to be thinning (and her face is thinning) b/c she’s waaaaay too thin. Regardless. It starts at home (i.e: our temples). And I don’t dislike St. Ange at all. I just feel she’s a bit dishonest, about herself, to herself…and if she took care of that she’d be a better mother, actress and humanitarian. That’s all. I actually Loved her in Gia and The Changeling.
