Kanye West in no way deserved Taylor Swift’s song of forgiveness

Last night at the VMAs Taylor Swift sang a ballad she composed for Kanye West. The lyrics showed understanding and forgiveness with a theme of redemption. She gave Kanye way too much credit. The guy crashed her moon man acceptance speech last year. Yes he apologized, but he’ll never really “get it” and in no way does he deserve that kind of thoughtful song. He’s an ass no matter how much he protests about it, and he proved that with his song choice for the awards show one year after he became an Internet meme. In his song “Runaway” he kind of reveled about what a jerk he was, although at least he seemed to admit it. Here’s a comparison of Taylor and Kanye’s lyrics for the songs they performed referencing the minor scandal:

Kanye’s “Runaway” (partial):
I always find something wrong.
You’ve been putting up with my sh*t way too long.
I’m so gifted at finding what I don’t like the most.
So I think it’s time for us to have a toast.
Let’s have a toast for the douchebags.
Let’s have a toast for the assholes.
Let’s have a toast for the scumbags.
Everyone of them that I know.
Let’s have a toast for the jerkoffs that will never take work off.

Baby I got a plan. Run away as fast as you can… Runaway from me baby.

Taylor Swift’s “Innocent” (partial):
Time turns flames to ambers
You’ll have new Septembers
Everyone of us has messed up too
Mind change like the weather
I hope you remember today is never too late
To be brave (ohh)

It’s all right, just wait and see
Your streaming lights are bright to me oh
Who you are is not where you’ve been
You’re still an innocent
It’s OK, life is a tough crowd
32 and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you did
You’re still an innocent
Lost your balance on a tight rope
It’s never too late to get it back

[via MTV]

Kanye has no balance on that tightrope, he’s pulled it off the wall, has jumped to the ground and is swinging it around while he swills cognac. That’s always how he’s been and someone is bound to get hurt. I’m not going to toast that douche or get philosophical about why he turned out that way and where he can go from here. There’s no point feeling sorry for him.

Let’s compare how pitchy these two were. Taylor was a little pitchy but that’s typical for her and she did a great job overall. Kanye cannot sing and really needs that autotune he overuses. At least he sang live, unlike Justin Bieber.

He apologized and she accepted his apology. I don’t think her song was necessary whatsoever. He ruined her first moon man acceptance speech and you can’t get that back.

  2. Rita says:

In the midst of the chaos of a swirling storm, goodness and grace reveal their authenticity in a calm expression while the bold and brash find only humility. Adversity begets opportunity which made her even more lovely. She needs to work hard on her singing but only to guard her values and character.

  3. may says:

    dear lord she sounds bad

  4. Lady Jane says:

I have never watched Taylor Swift do anything before. She isn’t a great performer is she? It seemed very choreographed and she was out of tune a lot. In saying that, I thought the sentiment of the song was rather beautiful, and she looked great.

  5. LindaR says:

I don’t care what the lyrics are about just compare them for creativity and originality. Kanye’s suck! Anyone can write that kind of crap. At least Taylor’s has some kind of thought and emotion. Not relentless stream-of-consciousness garbage that shows just what goes through Kanye’s mind everyday. What a talentless loser plus he’s a jackass.

Here’s something that took me five minutes to write. Everyone should give it a try. It’s easy!

I was hanging with my peeps
    When one made me mad
I said you used to be the best friend I ever had
    Leave this place forever
    Please just go away
    You’ve hurt my feelings and
I don’t want you to stay (que heavy beat music shit)

    I hate you
    You asshole
    You dickhead
    You suck
If you fall in a hole
    I won’t give a f@@k

(start mumbling unintelligible words and bobbing head a lot while relying on loud heavy bass sound to help find the beat to the song)

  6. Rachel says:

Are you kidding me? Kanye was an ass but that was the best thing to happen to Taylor Swift.

  7. Kristin says:

I doubt she was singing live.

  8. DD says:

I know what Kanye did was wrong, but I think the public’s reaction to it was great for Taylor. I think she acquired an instant fan base after that. Anyway I think Kanye learned his lesson and he’s gonna reign in the super ego a little bit at least.

  9. Marjalane says:

“Pitchy”? She should hope to be described as pitchy. She sounds like that everytime she strays from her talky country girl stuff. She needs to invest in a vocal coach.

  10. mln says:

Kanye is a jerk, seriously but Taylor is just another pretty blonde girl with a pretty blonde voice. Is anyone old enough to remember how people acted like Jewel was the most talented person ever for 5 minutes and now she can’t get arrested? That is exactly what’s going to happen to her.

  11. flutters says:

Maybe it’s just me but Taylor’s lyrics seem a bit overdramatic considering they were inspired by somebody who interrupted her speech at the VMAs. Yes it was VERY rude but her whole speechifying about how he’s still growing up and can be redeemed is OTT and it makes me think she’s treating it like a bigger deal than it actually was. I know the media made a huge deal of it but Taylor and Kanye didn’t have to play along.

Kanye’s had way better songs than the one he did too. At least it was half tongue in cheek and his rapping was solid although not original. Taylor was taking things way too seriously. And she still can’t sing.

I’m over the whole thing and they should be too. JMO.

  12. Rita says:

    @mln

I don’t want to be catty but Jewel’s latest album “Sweet and Wild” deluxe addition is a top 75 in country music. It’s doing very well. I say this only because Jewel may not be the most talented but she’s such a doll. Have a good day.

  13. Cletus says:

Linda, you got SKILLZ. There may be a future in song-writing for you.

  14. Jess says:

I think Kanye is definitely a d-bag, but I think Taylor may be shrewd in knowing that she’d get a lot more attention for a song about forgiving Kanye then she would for just another random song about some guy breaking her heart.

  15. mauweebound says:

taylor was just awful, she seems like a sweet girl but omg she can’t sing

  16. Kim says:

He was drunk. Get over it.

  17. di butler says:

WHAT??????????? Taylor Swift has almost no talent, plays 3 chords and sings sappy songs. After being “embarassed,” she got showered by the nation with pity and huge concert and record deals. I hope she sends ‘Nye muffin baskets every week, he helped her more than she can ever repay. Look what happened when Rhianna (marginal offkey talent) got punched by Chris Brown. People love to root for the injured party, and they both reaped major rewards.

  18. mel says:

OMG! The drama, Give me a break. In the words of my personal hero Kathy Griffin “She was getting a f***ing VMA not the Pulitzer Prize for Gods sake”

  19. Rosanna says:

How could this chick actually win something? LOL Kanye should have never said it out loud at that moment but there is NO comparison between Taylor and Beyonce!!!!

  20. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Well, maybe it’s about time we built her a church and started worshipping her on Sundays. Oh, wait: adolescent, anodyne bullshit. What the hell else is he supposed to do. Wear a hair shirt and get flogged? What if he goes on pilgrimage to Thomas a Becket’s Canterbury church. Oh, I know what’s appropriate, we’ll inject necrotic fluid into his jugular in homage to then Swiftian cult!

Yeah, what he did was rude (and accurate, sweet buttery flames she’s a terrible singer), but if we’re going to pull the ‘Lake of Fire’ shenanigans, I’d like us all to reflect on how awesome it is when a woman seems to thrive on reminding us how some dude–in a romantic pairing or otherwise–did her wrong, years after the fact. She gets a pass because she’s still so very young, but get it out of your system, lady.

It’s weird that everyone gloms onto this, when six months ago, that woman in the purple caftan stole credit for a Oscar that wasn’t even hers. Unless ‘her’s’ is code for, ‘I dropped out of this project long before any of this lauded work took place, that’s why I pulled my funding out of the project, and in truth I was only ever a co-producer, for which there isn’t even an Oscar, but I have quarrel with storming the stage so that the full producer and full director can’t speak, and use the opportunity to gab on about how awful it out there for women…who like stealing credit for other people’s work.’ That was exponentially worse, but the peanut gallery just had to–HAD to lay into him AND his mother for not granting this wizened old crone the credit she so richly didn’t derserve.

    Methinks I smell a rat.

  21. Atticus says:

Taylor Swift was 19 when the “moon man hijacking” happened. Of course it was a big deal to her, and of course she’s going to be dramatic about it – she was 19! Now she’s 20! When I read my journals from those ages I just shake my head and think, good Lord, the melodrama. This all happened to her on the public stage and she’s known for writing very personal songs, so let her have this moment. I thought her performance was great, though I agree she can’t sing live very well. At least she sings live!

Yes, Kayne West may have instigated the episode but Taylor got heaps of accolades and public support for her reaction to it. She was extremely graceful about the whole thing, mature beyond her years and she got proper credit for it. I think she’s an amazing talent. She’s 20!! She’s got lots of time to work on her voice. Fearless was her second studio album. Give her some time, people. At least she’s writing her own songs and singing them live, herself without enhancement. And her songs speak to her target audience – young teens. I only hope she’s still around and making it big when my daughter is old enough to have role models that are not featured on Nick Jr.

Now after she’s said her peace on the matter, I do hope it drops. Otherwise she’s going to let herself be defined by that one moment and I think she’s already proven she’s much bigger and better than that. She’d written this song months ago, by the way, so I don’t think of her as dredging it back up again.

  22. Atticus says:

Rita – I totally agree, I love Jewel!! I’ve been a die hard fan for years. I saw her play a teeny tiny club when I was in college, just before Pieces of You broke wide open. She was amazing – had a great banter with the crowd, sounded live just like she did on CD, just a really great show and a very great presence about her. I saw her again at a much bigger venue years later when she toured for This Way and even though she’d by then experienced the heights of fame and was in a much bigger setting, the vibe was very much the same as when she played that small club. Love her! I’m glad to see her make a go of it in country, seems to suit her, although my favorite CDs of hers are prior to the country gig.

  23. geenie says:

Both of these artists are so non-deserving and make me barf. Whateve’s with their songs.

  24. Delta Juliet says:

I’m no huge fan of Taylor Swift (some of her songs are catchy but I listen to them for the sake of my 7 year old lol) but Kanye is a douche with a capital D. I can’t stand looking at his smug, ignorant face. Ugh. Why can’t he go away???

  25. mln says:

Jewel fans sorry to insult you guys I think Jewel had an OK voice and her Funny or Die vid is hilarious but she was really overated at one time. Glad she found her niche in Country.

  26. Kate says:

I am a Taylor fan. My kids adore her. Even though it isn’t great, at least she sings live, unlike most (I’m looking at you Justin Bieber). But at this point I think one or more of her handlers should’ve jumped in and told her this song and the VMA performance was a bad idea. I know she is only 20 and the drama is, therefore, everywhere, but let’s move on …. please. She came out on the right side of the whole thing last year, no need to bring it up again. Or, at least if you bring it up, do something funny, like the SNL song or something similar, not that maudlin over the top nonsense. Bad call by Big Machine Records and Team Taylor.

  27. chris says:

She’s adorable but she has no range to her voice. STill, if I had teenage daughters, I’d rather they emulate her than most other performers out there. And the Kanye thing was the best thing that happened to her. She really should thank him.

  28. BethL says:

Sorry but I don’t understand how anybody could call Taylor’s performance great. She was offkey the entire time. I think this was worst than her Grammys’ performance and that really says something. I agree that she needs to spend more time with a vocal coach. She has done too many bad performances for her management to come up with excuses as to why she didn’t sound good.

  29. Ash says:

It was a ridiculous song and a ridiculous ploy. The audience, in general, felt very sorry for Taylor last year and she handled Kanye’s rude behaviour very well and everyone was impressed by her grace under fire.

Rehashing things a YEAR LATER? No. Making the moment more dramatic and serious than it ever was and ‘feel sorry for us BOTH’ was over the top and totally out of place.

It was such a ‘remember when I was embarassed by Kanye and you all felt so very sorry for me? Grab that feeling and hang onto it some more’.

All that and she STILL can’t sing.

  30. Lila says:

You have got to be kidding me?! I would like nothing more than for this overly painted, untalented Disney character to GO AWAY! She sucks. Stop trying to sugar coat sh-t. She 20 years old singing about her innocence, and wailing about how some mean, mean man stole her space man. Kanye was the best thing to happen to that stage last night. Hands down. And she, with her Oglvie perm and her parade of prom dress, should SIT DOWN.

  31. moo says:

Both of these over rated “entertainers” need to STFU about last year and work on what they do best. Being quiet might be a good option too.

  32. Cam says:

The girl can’t sing, we all know that. Both songs suck, but at least Taylor’s trying to SAY something (overreacting or not). Anyway, it wasn’t THAT big of a deal. I think singing about it one year later is just… stupid, honestly.

  33. K-MAC says:

She sounded beautiful and powerful! he sounded like an idiot!

  34. Iggles says:

    @ mel:
In the words of my personal hero Kathy Griffin “She was getting a f***ing VMA not the Pulitzer Prize for Gods sake”

Truer words have never been spoken!

  35. Sans says:

Kanye could have sat in a chair and did nothing while those ballerinas danced around him. Beautiful visuals, loved the dancers, and I love how he mixes art together. Taylor’s thing was melodramatic for more attention and she was lip singing….like bieber. At least bieber had a reason…he was dancing. Taylor’s career is at deaths door.

  36. Captaine says:

    1. She sounds horrible.

    2. She needs to be thanking Kanye for the sheer amount of pity attention and sympathy awards she’s gotten since.

    3. It was a fuckin VMA.

  37. Karen says:

From @Lila: “And she, with her Oglvie perm and her parade of prom dress, should SIT DOWN.”

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!

I think Taylor is a cute young woman and Kanye’s very talented with an out of control ego but I’m ready for all of this VMA 2009 shyte to be over with. But I had to give props to Lila for her LOL comment!

  38. hmm says:

If the worst thing that has happened to Taytay is that some drunk guy crashed an acceptance for a VMA then she’s lived a pretty charmed life. Can we please stop with the melodramatics over a moment in time that means very little in the grand scheme of things. FFS, this has been rehashed for a year but the demonization of Kanye continues. And as someone eloquently pointed out, no one has mentioned that the same thing happened at the Oscars, hmm, wonder why.

  39. Moore says:

I agree, Sans. Kanye’s performance was beautiful and it had nothing to do with the song he sang. I loved how mixed it was. No doubt he had a hand in that as he seems to be not only a perfectionist but he does like his arts.

As for this Swift mess, I can’t see why she’s bringing it up after a year. I can see why he did with his latest twitter jag. He’s still getting death threats, still working it out, might need a timeout but for her, what’s she getting from this? People gave her attention, she got her apology and her time to have her moment, she’s still bringing it up? Even went as far as to play a clip of last year before she sang with bare feet and oh so emotional. Just stop Swift. I never disliked her before but she’s not making it very hard right now.

    Edit:
I read this last night and its so true: “You don’t see Jay-Z up there singing bare feet about lil mama.” Time to move on. Plenty others have.

  40. Shi-gatsu says:

I’m going to be mean but honest.

No one deserved Taylor Swift’s song of forgiveness, including Kanye. She sucked!

Her voice is in no way powerful. She was off key the first minute or two of the song. She proved that she was a terrible singer when she sang along with Cyndi Lauper to Time After Time. Cyndi Lauper killed it! They don’t make them like they used to!

  41. Amanda says:

I hate this awards show. MTV is fake, a music television channel with absolutely no music. Their whole network exists around teenybopper reality shows. So, I guess it makes sense that they are trying to mnaufacture drama by having Taylor and Kanye each compose songs to each other, trying to cash in on the ridiculous scenario that they got lucky with last year.

This awards show has had some historical performances. I was just watching once this weekend, Nirvana’s performance of Lithium, which I was watching upon learning that it was just the 19th anniversary of the release of the video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and I couldn’t believe how old that made me feel. Moving beyondddd that sad fact, obviously this show is now relying on the crutch of “celebrities behaving badly” over the power of amazing musical performances to get people to tune in. If you get some good performances out of the show, then I guess that’s an added bonus.

  42. Anna says:

I like the passive aggressive touch of the “32 and still growing up” line. But if you’re going to forgive someone (and so publicly too), then go the whole nine yards. Truly forgive. Otherwise just don’t bother.

  43. Anna says:

Kanye is a fame whore; if I were Taylor I would have steered clear of the situation and not given him the attention he craves.

  44. Rachel says:

She does actually sing live, which is why she’s always so pitchy. The way she jumps all over the place and swings her hair around it’s hard to control your voice. But at least you know she’s actually singing for people and not passing off lipsyncing as a live performance.

  45. Scarlet Vixen says:

I have nothing against Taylor Swift–she’s a cutie, writes her own songs (or at least somewhat writes them), and seems like a nice girl. But, she can’t sing to save her life. I tried listening to her last night, but I felt so embarassed for her and how awful and off-key she was that I eventually had to change the channel. I’m a classical musician tho, so maybe I’m just pickier than most?

@mln: I do have to do a little Jewel defending tho. I’ve been a fan since she first began, and I don’t think she’s ever been overrated. If anything I think she’s underrated. She went to a prestigious music school in Michigan (called Interlochen), and actually trained as an opera singer, so the woman’s got serious pipes. She also has alot more songwriting range than Taylor Swift. And is AMAZING live.

  46. Majosha says:

    Taylor’s voice is terrible.

  47. Moreaces says:

Maybe they will both go away now, Yes

  48. GreenGinger says:

“I like the passive aggressive touch of the “32 and still growing up” line.”

    @Anna, I couldn’t agree with you more!!!

Taylor’s song didn’t sound to me like one of forgiveness. It was more like she was trying to wring the last drops of pity for herself out of the situation. Like she was coyly turning the knife that Kanye drove in his own stupid stomach. And while twising it, she was trying to look like an innocent, forlorn, helpless, shoeless girl who was stomped on by a bad, bad man wearing steel-toed boots.

I found her whole performance disingenuous and nauseating. From the melancholy mood to her virginal dress, to her fricking bare feet. It was all calculated to make those of us who have moved on from feeling sorry for her to start doing it again and pat her on the head for being so forgiving even though the bad, bad man ruined her life.

But I shouldn’t be surprised she hasn’t moved on from the incident when she’s still warbling about teenaged boys who did her wrong 5 years ago.

You know, I absolutely hate tattoos, but I really believe it would do Taylor a world of good to get one.

  49. Rianna says:

He hurt her over a Moonman (not a Nobel Peace Prize or the like), but the embarrassment for this young, innocent girl was palpable. Her lyrics discuss something the two of them can relate to — fame and ego and getting out of control. She’s a class act. She really IS a sweet person; I’ve met her here in a restaurant in Los Angeles. Do I think she capitalized on the incident? Yes…but I also think she’s coming from a genuine place. She’s a kid, people. She really is.

  50. Pix says:

Taylor Swift needs to grow up and act her age. Her little girl act is past its expiration date. She is obviously talented at something otherwise we wouldn’t know her name. I just wish she’d Woman-Up already.

Kanye is Kanye. He’s a egomaniac that happens to be pretty darn close to a musical genius. You know, he creates most of his beats in his head before they are synthesized and made commercial? He’s a true artist – with a bad attitude.

  51. mollination says:

this is all so gimmicky. mtv must be coming in their pants right now that they actually got so many ridiculous “what happened on the mtv awards” moments out of the show this year.

  52. LindaR says:

    Thank you Cletus.

  53. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    @Scarlet Vixen:

Nah, I’m a classical musician too. But you really don’t need to be kickin’ it with Debussy to have ears. I wasn’t listening out for chord progressions when I was half-asleep and enjoying the contents of my sister’s iPod in the car yesterday. Similarly, Kiri Te Kanawa is perfection when interpreting Mozart, just incredible. I don’t remember what I was watching, but it was basically asking if opera stars with their incredible classical gifts can apply that expertise to other genres. The video was gently nudging you towards ‘not really’, and you feel like a big idiot for not enjoying it, but I guess it was their plea for specialization. Dare I say, they made a pretty good point–same case with Placido Domingo singing selections from West Side Story. I guess it turned into an ‘I Break For Bel Canto’ moment, or something equally strange.

  54. Camille says:

Sorry but Taylor sounded bloody awful! My husband and I couldn’t get over how bad she sounded (and I am Team Swifty by the way). My husband couldn’t figure out why she had bare feet either lol (someone up thread explained it well).
I preferred Kanye’s song, which I didn’t think I would since I can’t stand the guy and I don’t like any of his other music. I thought he did a good job actually and I enjoyed his performance.

I’m glad to know I’m not alone in my thoughts here. 😀

  55. Diva says:

The VMA’s are for videos, not vocals.

I wish the both of them would just let it go. Wasn’t it just the other day that Swift wasn’t down with Kanye’s twitter apology or something? Then she opens her song with footage of the incident, made to look all old and archival… please. I like Taylor Swift, I like the POSITIVE role model and wish like hell my niece loved Swift the way she loves Miley Cyrus, but I’d love it if the whole debacle was put where it belongs.

Oh, one more thing… Oh, yes, Kanye CAN sing! He may have not been on top of his game 100% last night, but I’ve heard the man sing, and he can SING, he uses the autotune for a gimmick occasionally.

  56. Shut Up! says:

Oh good grief he interrupted her. SO WHAT!? it’s not like he beat the crap out of her, its a stupid MTV award, not a freakin Nobel Prize. I’m SICK to death of hearing about this! I’m glad he did it, I can’t stand Taylor! She whines about everything! All her stupid songs are about break ups! Why did she write this crap?

  57. DeanJolie says:

John Mayer is 32. Just sayin.

Sooo glad we can all go back to lovin Kanye again. Thanks Taylor.

  58. TeeTee says:

CAN WE GET OVER IT ALREADY???

DANG!! its over, let’s move on, Kanye is a rather talented and different kind of artist, can we let him move on, I’m looking forward to his new music. Kanye said he has had therapy and has been humbled, (he had just lost his mom to a situation that was beyong his control, because she did it behind his back–he also was carrying a bottle of booze that he drank during the whole show… he even sang the song he wrote for HER last night–he was choked up–let’s move past it–it is not that serious, it did not stop her checks IF ANYTHING she made MORE $$.

Geesh, its not like Taylor is talented, she sounded like a wounded cat on LIVE televsion..she nds vocal lessons and Kanye nds a manners course, geesh now, let’s move on!

I can’t beleive that Taylor is still riding off of this stunt, let it go and in the meantime-carry a tune, why don’t ya. JMO.

She did not sound good last night and she did not sound good when I took my lil godkids and cousins to see her live in Chgo…but I suffered through it.

I never thought I would say this but I’ll take LeAnn’s voice any day over Taylor’s..Britney’s too. SMDH

  59. gee_gee says:

Here’s the thing. He interrupted her speech at the VMA’s. The VMA’s!!! It’s not the damn Grammys. The VMA’s are a joke. And plenty of people have interrupted each other on that fakity fake ass awards show and managed not to have a nervous breakdown about it. Then people felt sorry for her marginally talented ass and voted her for a bunch of Grammys she probably didn’t even deserve. So I think, when this girl’s star begins to fade, she will be thanking Kanye for all the attention.

  60. California Surfer says:

LindaR you got me inspired – so I wrote a rap song for kanye

yo muthuf*cka what ya doin with that sucker what ya doin with that lollipop in yo’ mouth doncha know yo’ teeth gonna rot right out

tooth decay will cause you pain gonna head on to the dentist and pay pay pay

So I hope the dude brushes and flosses ’cause abcess teeth are no fun and neither are dentures as grandma says.

  61. Sally says:

The “32 and still growing up” line also made me lol. And Kanye needs to stick to rapping and stop singing.

  62. Mistral says:

The more—GAG— “poow wittle Taylor” things I see in the media, the more my indifference turns to major annoyance. I’m sick of seeing this no-talent everywhere. Her songs are crap. Trite sentiments + high school + puppies/kittens/unicorns + expensive styling = Swift. Bleh.

  63. CB Rawks says:

Kanye is a total a-hole, and I’m disgusted by the people that keep saying “He ruined her moment, so what?!” Is that the kind of jackass society we live in now? Blech! Need I ask, would you enjoy that if it happened to YOU?

  64. Wresa says:

Wait, which one is the egomaniac again?

  65. GatsbyGal says:

It would be epic if the two of them hooked up.

  66. Aspie says:

I’m so sick of “she’s just a kid, poor Taylor, wah wah…” Ok, Kanye’s not the most humble guy but his talent is undeniable. Why can’t people just get over it? Race is a huge factor in this situation and no one wants to admit it. Yes, Kanye’s a jerk but he apologized. What’s wrong with a little forgiveness (in the form of a song)? Jeez…

  67. Confuzzle says:

Ratface should be kissing Kanye’s ass for all the free publicity he got her.

  68. CB Rawks says:

One point to the jackass society.

  69. Paula's pillbox says:

man…f*ck Taylor Swift! Kanye tore it up last night!

  70. Chris says:

In a further twist to this sorry saga they’ll probably begin dating to milk even more tabloid attention and the media will dub them K- Wift, which is rather appropriate for two performers who stink.

  71. jemshoes says:

My 2 cents? Taylor looked so different – so grown up! – at this year’s VMAs I actually didn’t recognise her. 🙂

    That’s it, folks!

  72. JDGLEGRA says:

I think Taylor Swift should thank Kanye West … He made her even more famous … I think Kanye was just being honest … unfortunately he did it on stage and he is The Kanye West …If he is Kanye East things would be different … I think Taylor should take vocal lesson if she wants to be able to stand in this industry … Like Christina Aguilera (I am not a fan of her) but I have to admit that she managed to come out of “Disney” thing … Britney ? …. different case …

  73. Anon says:

Oh enough of the drama, yeah Kanye is crass and foolish but he spoke the truth and Taylor got one heckva ride in awards for a year, Kanye did pay a price. The white dress and bare feet…innocent? I think not. People want to see talent, not gimmicks and PR fluff designed to hide the obvious. There are too many talented people that do deserve a chance and the awards. Enough with the passive-aggressive female “role models” in the public eye, remember tweens are watching this type of behavior. Btw, what was MTV thinking with some of the vulgarisms by the host?

  74. Aly says:

I’m so over taylor fuckin swift!!! she was so going for the sympathy vote, it happened a year ago so get the hell over it, and to top it of she sang horribly and ive noticed this before the girl can’t sing on stage so whats the fuss, im with kanye, someone should beat her skinny ass

  75. mike says:

Squinty Taylor should be giving Kanye a free Bjay, heck, multiple Bjays, for making her really famous. Without Kanye, no one would have heard of Squinty except tweeners.

She is a grown woman, 20 years old in fact. Her princess and diva act is really getting old.

Squinty, please grow up and leave the princess act to the tweeners in the Mickey MOuse club.

  76. John says:

Why are you talking about Kanye’s singing? He’s a producer and rapper, not a singer.
He’s performance was epic, and voted the best of the night cause he was RAPPING and PRODUCING at the same time live on stage.

It’s like saying taylor swift can’t rap, she’s a bad artist. Makes no sense.
I don’t even get why people with no understanding for all sorts of commercial music choose to comment on all sorts of commercial music. One tip stay to what you know and your writing seems more credible. And also I can’t believe how sensitive people really are the MTV Awards used to be fun, but when Kanye (drunk might i add) borrowed the mic from Taylor Swift for 5 seconds racism kicked in and people were treating it like it was a nobel prize dinner. Eminem got ambushed with Brunos ass on his face and no one said anything, Eminem said X-tina gave people VD nothing happened, Eminem threated moby nothing happened, ODB dissed Puff Daddy same thing nothing happened all at mtv awards and all a 100 times worse than what Kanye “did”

  77. sara says:

all of you that are talking bad about taylor obviosly dont know her at all. is she the greatest singer in the world, no probally not but what makes her great and why she sells out all her concerts in minutes and has won so many awards is because she sings from the heart and she writes her own music that she wrote from her heart.

I dont understand how you think she is being dramatic by singing and writing this song. Thats what songwriting is, you take things that happen to you and write them down. Sure Kanye didnt physically hurt her but what he did was still horrible and very hurtful. Can you imagine standing on a stage after just winning an award that you worked so hard to achieve and having someone interrupt you and say how you dont desere the award? Most people would be mad, angry and hate the person but not Taylor. Instead she writes a beautiful song explaining that she forgives him and that his string of lights is still bright to her” even after what he did. The performance was so powerful and beautiful and real. When you watch Taylor perform you feel what she feels with her because its real. Thats what makes a great singer, actor, actress and performer and why Taylor Swift is amazing 🙂
