I’m pretty sure that Serena’s race doesn’t shield her from unkind remarks about her muscular arms, big butt, and big thighs. It’s funny because perusing through the comments one gets the sense that people feel that Serena is only allowed to wear her teeny, weeny bikini because she’s black. How about she can wear it because she likes how she looks and doesn’t care what anyone thinks? Surely that’s a lesson that all women should take black, white, or whatever and then perhaps we wouldn’t have so many women killing themselves to fit into skinny jeans. I respect the fact that she has a talent, a PROPER talent, which she is celebrated for, amazingly good at AND one of the BEST in the world at. I applaud it. Nothing else, where she is concerned, is of importance to me. Least of all her looks. Because honestly, she isn’t blessed in that department.
One of the many advantages of a mixed ethnic backround is not having body hang-up. The body image thing seems to be a problem for many white non hispanic women. Sad really because most men prefer a woman with some curves. While Serena’s body may not appeal to everyone she really is pretty fabulous imo. And as a counter point to the poster abv, Serena and Venus has completely elevated the level of play for women’s tennis.
