Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s wedding details

Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s wedding is happening this weekend in India. It seems like it’s very sudden, but it’s been in the works for a while, with Katy joking this spring that Russell was planning everything and had turned into a “Bridezilla.” They have either four or six days of festivities planned (reports vary) for their 75 guests, who are being flown in for their wedding this Saturday at a palace in the state of Rajasthan, India. Guests are staying at a luxury wildlife resort and several hotels nearby. US Weekly has some details in their print edition, and the Indian press has more.

Sources tell US Brand will ride into his ceremony on a horse, flanked by camels and elephants, during the processional at a palace in Rajasthan, India, where he proposed last New Year’s Eve. And Perry, for her part, will have a rotating bridal wardrobe from designers including Zuhair Murad and Donna Mizani. Needless to say, the Brands-to-be have spared no expense, flying nearly 75 guests in for the six-day extravaganza, which will feature folk dancers and fireworks. “It’s costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars,” the insider says. – US Magazine, print edition, November 1, 2010

Suddenly… [a] luxury jungle retreat in Ranthambore has turned into a fortress with private security personnel cordoning off the whole area. All the entrances to the resort have been blocked. It was all for international celebrity couple Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s big fat wedding.

Sources said that Katy Perry and Russell Brand have arrived Rathambore for their much-awaited wedding this weekend, October 23. The wedding will [be] a four-day-affair from 23rd to 26th October.

Several hotels in Rathambore have been booked for the guests, who are expected to come for the wedding ceremony. The safari ride at the Rathambore National Park is expected to increase in the next couple of days with guests started pouring in. it is said that the locals have been asked not share the details of the wedding to the media. – OneIndia

US has pictures of the resort in their magazine, and you can see some more below. According to the resort’s website (which I’m not naming but it’s easy enough to find) they have 10 luxury tents that cost around $875 a night. It sounds like a very lavish expensive wedding that will be a ton of fun. I’m looking forward to seeing the inevitable photos, the sale of which will undoubtedly help defray some of the costs.

I wrote all that up when I noticed that Katy tweeted that she was hoping for privacy for her wedding. She wrote “Greatest gift u can give us is respect & ♥ during this private X. No use wasting ur X w/ STOLEN or FALSE info. Thnku for this.” I’ve redacted the name of one of the resorts where they’re staying and have not included the name of the rumored palace where they’ll be married, but I’m not going to scrap this whole story at this point. Does that mean Katy isn’t going to sell the pictures? Because I’m betting she will.

Photos below are from a resort they’re rumored to be staying at in India. Katy and Russell are shown at the Get Him to the Greek premiere on 5/25/10. Credit: Juan Rico/Fame Pictures. They’re also shown out on 6/6/10. Credit: WENN.com

I bet he thinks “I’m so hot” so that’s why he always goes around with his shirt unbuttoned.

  2. Maya says:

This kind of excess always wants to make me vomit, especially in a country where millions live in poverty. How much relief could you bring for that kind of money? What an incredible waste!

  3. db8ng1 says:

@Maya: Would their wedding be more palatable to you if it were being held in NYC? They have a lot of money to spend and they’d spend it whether they were getting married in India or in Hollywood.

I see your point (and generally agree) but also want to point out that their wedding is bringing lots of money into the local economy.

From what little I (personally) know of Katy Perry & Russell Brand, they actually seem to be somewhat socially conscious and generally charitable. Let’s save some of the venom and hostility for those celebrities who really deserve it…

  4. Maya says:

    @db8mg1

Ni, I don’t care where it is, it just seems a little cruel to rub this in the face of people who are starving. I guess that the people there who ears $1 an hour should be thrilled that these two idiots are throwing some of the crumbs off of their plate to them.

And I’m sorry, socially conscious people, especially Christians like she claims to, should not be able to, in good conscious blow hundreds of thousands of dollars on stupid details like riding an elephant or a yak or whatever when there are way to many ways that money could be better used. This is like Slutty Miller going to the Congo on a “mercy mission” and blogging about how good the food is. They can spend their money the way they want, but admiring them for it is insane.

  5. MeMyself says:

Maya, I couldn’t agree with you more.
Really, it’s so over the top, it’s so vulgar.
I would have more respect if they were alone, or with just immediate family and kept it simple. That says true love to me more than elephants and camels.

  6. Free_verse says:

More than anything, I am miffed about all the ‘security’ that will be required to be provided for this motley bunch, whom nobody knows or cares about in India.

  7. Brittney says:

No one knows whether they’re making donations to the nearby regions or how much this wedding will help benefit the local economy. I imagine tourism to India has been elevated by Perry and Brand for quite some time… could be wrong, though. I agree that elephants and camels are lavish (and as an animal rights activist I hope they’re using a reputable source for the creatures, one that doesn’t exploit them or mistreat them)… but it’s their WEDDING DAY. Maybe this has lost meaning in Hollywood, but it’s still one of the most important days of their lives, and none of us have any room to judge how or where they spend it.

@ Freeverse: The security means more jobs for more people… never a bad thing. I don’t think they’ll be protecting the wedding party from locals, but from the hordes of paparazzi who are sure to swarm in now that details of the resorts have been leaked by other publications.

  8. Rita says:

The divorce will be a hell of a lot more expensive than the wedding.

  9. LeManda says:

I agree with this actually being a good thing for the people of India. They will be glad to get paid for use of their elephants, ect. And it will likely attract more tourisum for them.
Hope they have a lovely wedding and look forward to the pictures.
Though I have my doubts this huge wedding in India is happening, I think they’ll end up getting married by her dad in some backyard ceremony.

  10. sisi says:

This wedding doesn’t really interest me whatsoever. I just wanted to say that I really like Katy’s lilac shoes in the picture : )

  11. Erandyn says:

Yowzer, what’s with the “they must spend their money in exactly the same way I would spend it if it were mine to spend” brigade? And even pulling out ye olde “she doesn’t live by the exact same moral code as I do, therefore she isn’t a Proper Christian” card?

Must be Sanctimonious Thursday, and nobody told me! 😀

  12. Steph says:

I usually don’t comment, but seriously. THEY didn’t build the resort, it was there already! Someone else was obviously rubbing luxury and lavish treatment in the face of the poor before Katy and Russell decided to get married there! And more than likely it was some rich Indian family…or does that make it ok since they aren’t celebrities!?

  13. liz says:

That blue hair is so goddamn stupid! It’s like she’s rebelling from conservatism for the very first time like she’s in middle school. Trailer trash needs to go back to bible thumping and stop forcing herself into our lives….and that lagoon creature next to her can go with her

  14. Praise St. Angie! says:

let me be clear…I am not HOPING that they break up, but…

…I can’t see this marriage lasting more than a year or two. if that.

  15. original kate says:

he really needs to button 2 more buttons.

  16. Tammy says:

Since WWII the US has given 55 billion dollars to India in foreign aid. The most money any other developed nation has received.

  17. Feebee says:

Wow, kind of surprised to read that some people think of India only as a slum. India has a upper class that has substantial wealth. The five star resorts aren’t just for rich tourists. By having their wedding in India it helps the Indian economy.

America has a massive homeless population and poverty is rising, no-one mentions that whenever celebrities and politicians raise and spend huge amounts of money on nothing.

  18. seri says:

    @serena
It must be a European thing. My husband-to-be is Austrian and he does the same thing… but not sooooooo far down like Russell!! That far is like when a woman shows cleavage all the way to her belly-button!! 😮

  19. Sandy says:

I’m just tired of the stupid smurf wig

  20. grisgrisny says:

My husband is from Ecuador and when we go there to travel we stay in nicer hotels than anything we could afford in the US, eat out, take cabs and are always sure to tip generously to the staff, waiters, taxi drivers. Your tourism and generosity actually really is one of the best ways to get money directly into the hands of the locals.

  21. Meanchick says:

I just hope the marriage is a long and happy one, . . . and that most of this is a load of crap! Elephants?

  22. Stronzilla says:

Hey, if she wears that wig from the last pic then she’ll only need something old, something new and something borrowed.

  23. LolaBella says:

Good luck to them and I hope they enjoy their special day.

On another note she looks so ridiculous in those various crayola wigs she wears. Gah!

  24. Shawna says:

The pictures of the hotel surprised me; the rooms are so classy. Guess I expected them to somehow be over-the-top?

I kind of like the silver dress, would love it had it been (on the bottom) a simple sheath ending mid-thigh.

  25. Nancy says:

If you need elephants and tents for your wedding, what does that say about your marriage?

I agree, though, with everyone saying WTF on the vulgar displays of wealth in an area with a rampant amount of poverty. India has an upper class, but I don’t recall seeing anything like “Slumdog Millionaire” or “Born into Brothels” in the US. The wealth seems pretty disproportioned. People like this just have no idea about the real world. No, they don’t have to spend their money like I do, but I have the perfect right to have NO respect for them.

  26. Jenna says:

wtf is the point in spending so much on a stupid wedding? it makes me sick. people are starving in India but they want to showboat their wallets. it’s pathetic. i hope they go to hell.

  27. Jenna says:

Ps. that is a tacky, figure-skating looking dress. she is the epitome of TACKY.

  28. Steph says:

@Nancy…if you want elephants and tents at your wedding it says you want to create a memorable day for yourself and your loved ones! Granted my wedding didn’t cost anywhere near what they’re spending, but guess what…it involved tents AND it involved animals including elephants because we got married in a fabulous area of our state zoo! Not only that but a good friend did the same thing this past August – married at a zoo and had the elephants come out to greet guests during cocktail hour.

You don’t have to have respect for people who do things differently than you, but don’t need to make statements that infer having a lavish or non-standard ‘church and country club reception’ wedding means something is wrong with the relationship! My husband and I are very happily married despite having tents and animals at our wedding.

  29. REALIST says:

I’m still holding out for Russell and Helen Mirren hooking up. He looks completely different in the photos with HM-sweet, tender, adoring. But, I know-the age difference, Helen’s married-blah, blah, blah.
    I’d give the marriage 3 yrs, tops…

  30. Ron says:

I don;t see the problem here. They have the money and can spend it any way they see fit on their wedding. Everyone has their “dream wedding” and some people actually get to have it. I am heading to a really over the top wedding in Australia next week. As a guest, it should be fun!

  31. Eileen says:

ITA FeeBee-IMO wouldn’t them having the wedding there HELP India’s economy?

  32. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Why so expensive? Its only gonna be a two to three year marriage, if that.

I eloped. Screw all the lavishness of marriage ceremonies. and you were right, divorce is more expensive.

  33. Nancy says:

    Steph,

It’s not the same thing, and you know it. Still, zoos are pretty evil. Some are better than others, but they all involve imprisoning animals against their natural insticts. Elephants are intelligent, herd animals with familial ties that migrate miles every day. Zoos are totally contrary to their nature. It might have been a great day for you, but not for them.

And I am sure I can comment about anything I want. And I still say that two people who truly love each other could get married under a rock and count themselves lucky. I had a few friends in my backyard at my wedding. Whole thing cost less than $350. Best marriage ever. I agree with everyone who says all this tawdry blah blah will count for squat when they divorce in 18 months.

Katie, you’re married now. Grow the frick up and quit wearing blue hair. Geez.

  34. bitca says:

Um, Russell? Dude? You CAN look cute in a 70s-rock’n’roll way, but pls update the retro-style a bit? Geez, all you need is a gold chain & pendant glittering amid the chest-hair. And with the anime-hair Missus, you come off like a couple who lost the address to a Halloween party.

Silly outfits & hair are KP’s ‘thing.’ But she’s in on the joke, & seems kinda fun—tho I wish she’d stop trying to sing & lose the awful open-mouthed Jess-Simpson-smile. Funny that the Comedian of the pair looks so deadly-serious about his c.1975 Led Zep knockoff duds. Button up & smile more… with mouth shut, of course 😉

  35. Jeri says:

I know he proposed there but other than that do they have any special connection to India?

Just curious, not judging either way. I like these two, they’re amusing & don’t go out of their way to offend people.

  36. J says:

Does anyone know how much these two give to charity? I really don’t, but it is worth a thought. Celebrities often spend lavishly on themselves, but it is also very often the same mega-wealthy that donate very heavily to charity. I think if you spend as much on other people as yourself, you aren’t really doing a bad thing. (Not to say that living that lavishly is necessary or even to be desired.)

Also, @Nancy, you don’t seem like a very nice person and I’m glad your wedding sounds like it was pretty crappy. Jealousy is not an attractive look for anybody.

  37. Jeri says:

Nancy This is all about the WEDDING TO BE so NO THEY ARE NOT YET MARRIED. Duh!

Some give to charity because they are into it, some give to charity at their accountants request to get some writeoffs. Either way, charity gets some money so OK!

  38. Nancy says:

    #37

And some people die, every day, because they do not have food, shelter, clean water, or medical care. How nice for the fabulous folks that they have had a LUCKY enough life to blow the money that might have saved them on tents and elephants. How about the thousands of animals that are killed every day because there are not enough resources to keep them alive. Oh well, sucks for them. But these two idiots had a great great day.

I had a great wedding. I married the man I loved. That was enough for both of us, and it still is. How about Charles and Dianne, one of the most expensive weddings ever? How’d that work for them? It was a special day, and a sad, tragic life. These two, expensive divorce within three years, bet on it. She’s about as sharp as a marble, and that will gwet old once her boobs start to droop

And you all can bite me. You have no souls at all.

  39. birdgherl says:

I give it 14 months tops.

  40. grace says:

They can spend their money whatever way they want.
However, I am with Nancy regarding the stupidity of riding an elephant to a wedding. Everybody knows how elephants are “trained” with violence and cruelty. I really don’t respect people for financially supporting cruelty.
I find it very ironic how J accuses Nancy of being not a nice person, but, right after, says her wedding sounded crappy. It surely makes him/her the nice person here…

  41. chasingadalia says:

Goodness gracious. Y’all need to stop the b*tching, and remember that how much you spend on a ceremony has *nothing* to do with how good/bad/happy/sad your marriage is.

  42. gg says:

I bet his wedding suit will be too tight in the ass, pulled down, cutting off his circulation in his belly, and skin tight from the knees down, just like everything else he wears.

The tents are groovy though. Don’t understand why they would cost so much.

  43. Alexa says:

Someone pray for me as I am extremely JEALOUS about this wedding actually taking place. Reasonable or not, I really have a thing for Mr. Brand.
    ——– Sincerely, Mrs. Brand-wannabee

  44. hjsplit says:

Hey, maybe this is a bit offf topic but in any case, I have been surfing about your blog and it looks really neat. impassioned about your writing. I am creating a new blog and hard-pressed to make it appear great, and supply excellent articles. I have discovered a lot on your site and I look forward to additional updates and will be back.
