Mel Gibson canned from ‘comeback’ role in Hangover 2

Mel Gibson has been cut from a planned cameo in Hangover 2 following protests from the cast and crew. In a statement announcing the decision, the director admitted that Mel was initially on board and that all the bigwigs approved, but that the people working for him didn’t want Mel on the film. Star Zach Galifianakis was among those opposed to Mel’s involvement, or at least he strongly hinted as much during a recent radio interview.

It looks like Mel Gibson won’t be making a cameo appearance in “The Hangover 2” after all.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and director Todd Phillips confirmed on Thursday that Gibson will not be joining stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms in the highly-anticipated sequel, which follows the gang to the exotic but dangerous locale of Thailand.

Phillips stated: “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of [WB president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”

Galifianakis was rumored to be upset with the decision to cast Gibson in a cameo, explaining to Comedy Death-Ray podcast host Scott Aukerman that he’s turned down several projects on moral grounds, saying: “But a movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway.”

Galifianakis cut Aukerman off with an abrupt warning sound as the host began to mention the film’s title, but after Aukerman pressed, “I know you’re filming The Hhhhhhhh … ” Galifianakis admitted, “It has something to do with a movie I’m working on, yeah. I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.”

I love Zach Galifianakis and this just elevates him in my book. Kaiser thinks he’s not that funny but I adore his kind of bumbling sense of humor and think he’s a great actor. I’m glad that he and his coworkers stood up to this poor casting decision. Mel doesn’t need to stage a comeback at this point, nor does he particularly deserve one. There’s still all that drama going on with Oksana and I know that it will be a long time, if ever, before I’m able to see him on screen without thinking of the terrible hateful things he said to her. As Michael K At D-Listed points out, though, Mike Tyson is a known rapist and no one seemed to have any problem costarring with him in that last movie. It still feels too soon for Gibson though.

It will never ever be ‘too soon’ for Mel baby…rather its always going to be far too late…plonker…

  2. Chris says:

I don’t know why Mel doesn’t just let go. He’s had a good run and made a lot of money. Why keep sticking your head up only to get it kicked off?

  3. Original Gracie says:

WTF is up with those gross sores on his arm in the second picture?

Mel is now going to reap what he’s sown for the past few years. His ugly, horrible personality has now been exposed and hopefully he will be shunned. He is an awful human being.

Ugh. And to think that I ever liked or admired him. It makes me shudder.

  4. nnn says:

Mel should understand that he is now “persona non grata” in Hollywood and will be that for a long time when it comes to mainstream destined to be successful and aiming at a large part of society (including children and females) types of movies.

He should back off, keep a low profile and rebuild bit by bit his reputation by first acknowledging that he did wrong and feel sorry, then seek to mend feces with his victim, then seek professional help for himself and then come back two or three years later with a book about how he struggle to gain his sanity back and be a better human being respectfullto women, how he has grown as a humble man, explaining all to Larry King or anyone else interested with his REBIRTH.

Then and only then, he can expect to have a chance for redemption and public forgiveness and can expect to be featured in movies.

Until he doesn’t do that first step : acknowledging that he is an abuser. Until he doesn’t verbally repent and say sorry publicly to women and little girls for his unacceptable humiliation of one of their own, he will be perceived as an unapolegic monster who perceive female as subhumans who don’t deserve proper treatment from his part.

  5. Jane Q. Doe says:

I think the best way for Mel to stage a comeback would be for him to quietly go behind the scenes as a producer, but no sooner than next year.

And that’s a very interesting point about Mike Tyson – never really thought about it before…

  6. Girafe99 says:

Tyson v Gibson, is to do with the fact that the formers issue was out of the public conscience and the latter is still very much publicly aware.

I find it hypocritical but that’s Hollywood.

  7. Jazz says:

Those lines on his head always remind me of devil horns.

  8. Eileen says:

Oh yeah, he’s circling the drain now! Good riddance!
And I love ZG too-I think he is typecasted right now doing the same kooky character, but I think he’s got talent enough to break out of it at some point.

  9. Shay says:

Mel should just stick to directing and producing films rather than acting at this point. It’s a shame because he is a great actor, but his personality makes working with others an impossible prospect.
In reality, if we are to consider the realities, most Hollywood films are more bigoted, stereotypical and sexist than Mel Gibson is in real life. I can appreciate that Jewish Hollywood types were offended, and rightly so, but they also produce some of the most sexist films (Adam Sandler’s films always have to have bimbo roles, what about the way women were portrayed in films like Funny People?).

  10. Madison says:

So the Hangover cast and crew will only work with convicted rapists, like Mike Tyson? What a bunch of hypocrites Zach and the rest of these people are, if your going to go all moralistic on one actor then apply the same rules to all the other vile assholes in Hollywood.

  11. Eileen says:

@Madison: I was thinking that maybe with the first movie they didn’t have much pull with the director and producer with things they didn’t support. A lot of those actors were just starting out and were just happy to have a job. Then it was a big success and they have even moved on to more successful things and now are aware that the movie can’t happen without them-they have some currency to take a stand? Don’t know but its a possibility.

  12. mln says:

Well I am really glad about this. I wasn’t going to watch the movie eventhough I loved the first one. As for Tyson vs Gibson there probably isn’t much difference so I get why people are complaining except one has actually went to jail and was made to pay a debt to society while the other is a multi millionare who has yet to apologize or acknowledge any of his heinous acts. And I agree that the actors probably didn’t have a say in the first movies’ casting etc.

  13. LOVE ANGELINA says:

How can anyone not love Zach Galifianakis, the man is amazing and oh sooo hilarious.

Tyson served his time and he is a very different person. Hasn’t been any trouble for years. His new marriage seems to be in good standing and he is a whole another person. I can forgive him and people forgave Mel Gibson for his comments before the tapes but then he did what he did and no body can jsut let that slide, its still fresh in everyones minds, hell its on audio tape. Hasn’t even been a full year yet.

I am glad he isn’t gonna be in it because I wouldn’t have gone to see it if he was.

  14. Samigirl says:

I’m with Eileen on this one. They did what Todd Phillips told them they were going to do, because they didn’t know how the film was going to fare. Hell, Lilo turned down the script because it was going nowhere, so the cast and crew may have also had misgivings about it as well. Now that they know exactly what is possible with the second movie, they are going to object if they so feel like it, because they can this go around.

  15. Kaboom says:

Somewhat hypocritical, considering he didn’t seem to have a problem with convicted rapist Mike Tyson in the first Hangover movie.

  16. jen says:

Yet Roman Polanski is surely adored by all of them!

  17. Bee says:

Thank goodness Zack and the rest of the cast stood up against this horrible decision. Besides Mel presence in the movie being morally repugnant,it could also have hurt the film’s box office. I certainly wasn’t going to see the movie if the prince of darkness was in it.

  18. Kitten says:

“except one has actually went to jail and was made to pay a debt to society while the other is a multi millionare who has yet to apologize or acknowledge any of his heinous acts”

    EXACTLY.
Huge difference. I don’t think Mel Gibson would know what contrition was if it smacked him in the face (no pun intended).
The guy doesn’t think he did anything wrong and probably never will.
Anyway, so happy to hear this. I’ve always liked ZG so it’s nice to see the guy has a moral core.

  19. CathyT says:

To quote a poster on another blog, “a rapist ear-eater is apparently more hip.”

  20. Eve says:

Until he doesn’t do that first step : acknowledging that he is an abuser. And:

    My exact thoughts.

  21. Kitten says:

Sorry, CathyT, you’ll have to wait a while to see the love of your life on the big screen 🙁

  22. flutters says:

I see what people are saying about Mike Tyson and agree with the great points made by nnn and mln.

But reading this I’m actually surprised and gladdened to see that there’s someone, somewhere in Hollywood actually willing to stand up for a principle and not just bow to the money men – and not just for PR and posturing’s sake. Good on you, ZG.

  23. katyalia says:

Agreed with Eileen and everybody who said the same.
But also: Mike Tyson was just playing himself (and wasn’t exactly portrayed as a cuddly ex-boxer that everybody admires). In Gibson’s case he was supposed to be given a role in sure-fire box office blockbuster as means of a comeback. That’s what’s made it so wrong for me! Why give Gibson a chance like that when he has yet to redeem himself on his own account?
I was sure going to miss this sequel (although my boyfriend of course loved the original). Now I’ll make sure we’ll go and watch it at least twice.
Finally, here’s to hoping that the uproar on all blogs about this casting decision played a role in the reversal of it…

  24. cantbelievethis says:

‘Star Zach Galifianakis was among those opposed to Mel’s involvement,’

I wasn’t really a fan of ZG, but I am now. I will gladly pay to see anything he’s in!

Mel needs to come forward, admit he has issues and get help. Then many more people would be rooting for his comeback.

  25. CathyT says:

    @Kitten…

I’m weeping…no wait, that’s not right…The Hangover was deeply unfunny. No big loss.

(Waiting for the inevitable controversy about Asian stereotypes in The Hangover 2)

  26. Tess says:

Maybe my memory is faulty but I don’t remember Tyson acknowledging or admitting what he did. But he did pay his debt to society. A whopping 3 years in jail. Woohoo!

To hear that Gibson and Tyson’s cases are different with Tyson somehow coming out on top is mind-blowing.

Lets get real here. There are a lot of good reasons to keep Gibson out of the movie. But the implication that its about some moral stand on the part of the cast and/or crew is incredibly disingenuous.

  27. a says:

    HOORAY!

  28. Kitten says:

@CathyT I’m sure there are plenty of copies of “The Passion of The Christ” in the dollar bin at The Christmas Tree Shop.

3 years? That’s something and a HELL of a lot more than Gibson ever got. Oh that’s right, he’s never been charged with anything except for a DUI because he “owns Malibu”.
Remember? That was when he went into his racist rant about how “Jews caused all the wars in the world.”
    Ah yes memories memories….

  29. Uzi says:

    @Tess…

“Lets get real here. There are a lot of good reasons to keep Gibson out of the movie. But the implication that its about some moral stand on the part of the cast and/or crew is incredibly disingenuous.”

EXACTLY! I loathe hypocrisy, and this is the gold standard! ZG and his cohorts had no problem sharing the screen in the first Hangover with a convicted ear biting rapist thug. And Hollywood sure doesn’t have moral issues with Roman Polanski, Woody Allen or Charlie Sheen. MEL GIBSON HAS NOT BEEN CHARGED WITH ANY CRIME, and ironically, the same day he was dumped from this film a court ordered his grifter baby mama to hand over her computer so law enforcement could examine it as part of their ongoing extortion investigation (funny how the mainstream media isn’t making a big deal about that!) Mel’s illegally taped and “leaked” rant may have been offensive to some people, but to black list him for profanity and political incorrectness is downright un-American!

  30. CathyT says:

@Kitten…no, we’ve all forgotten about his DUI. Thankfully you are here to remind us. Unfortunately, I don’t share your opinion that a DUI accompanied by anti-Semitic remarks merits the same punishment as RAPE.

  31. flutters says:

Eh, maybe I should be more cynical and this is more about not wanting to be associated with a PR black hole. Either way I’m glad that Mel Gibson isn’t getting this opportunity for a bunch of PR flack to try to sell a comeback story.

  32. Kitten says:

I don’t recall quantifying the difference, CathyT but thanks for putting words in my mouth.
Why am I not surprised you conveniently forgot about his Anti-Semetic rant? Well, just in case you *forgot* about all the misogynistic, vile, threatening, verbal abuse towards his wife and child you can always pop back on Radar for a refresher course because as we all know, that shit is all on tape…

  33. CathyT says:

@Kitten…so you were just writing non sequiturs? Even allowing for the most generous interpretation of your comments, what has Mel Gibson done that deserves the same amount of prison time as RAPE? Also, your sarcasm detector needs recalibration.

  34. Crash2GO2 says:

@CathyT: Good Lord, not only was it an anti-semitic rant, but he also showed his misogynist true colors in high definition (sugar t*ts ring a bell?). If you think anyone is going to forget any of that, you will be very disappointed. Very.

And ZG just won my heart. He made my day actually. 🙂

  35. Crash2GO2 says:

@CathyT – in all fairness, sarcasm, unless really clearly defined, is very difficult to pick up in posts. I have found that in order not to be misunderstood, it is best to write *sarcasm* after a comment you make that is to be taken as such. Communication face to face is hard enough – communication through a blog can be REALLY difficult and avoiding misunderstandings is key if you want your points to be taken in.

  36. CathyT says:

@Crash2GO2…Since you are butting into our conversation about whether Mel Gibson deserves the prison sentence of a RAPIST, let me remind you that anti-Semitic rants and “sugar t*ts” are not illegal in this country.

  37. xxodettexx says:

i loved Zach Galifianakis in the hangover! my fav part and i started watching the movie with the intention of it being a terrible hollywood boy comedy and i was actually surprised at how much i loved it

anyway, i have to agree to a degree with dlisted about the mike tyson thing [a very creepy part of the first movie imho] BUT the cast and crew have every right to stand up and make demands… we dont know what is going on behind the scenes but maybe they were all just glum c*nts and didnt want it pointed out every day??

  38. Kitten says:

Ugh thanks, Crash2go2. Not sure why I even bother with the Mel Defenders. Ok, cathyT you’re right. Gibson is a pillar of the community and a super-great guy. *SARCASM*

  39. cantbelievethis says:

“Ok, cathyT you’re right. Gibson is a pillar of the community and a super-great guy. *SARCASM*”

Yep, he’s the poster boy for mental health and romance!

Nothing says “I love you” like threatening to bury your SO’s body in the rose garden and demanding a blow job BEFORE the jacuzzi.

  40. Crash2GO2 says:

@CathyT: You are posting on a public forum you twit. There is no such thing as ‘butting in’ as such. And I had said nothing at all about Mel vs Tyson or who deserves what, so you must be badly confused. About a lot of things I suspect.

  41. Eve says:

    @CathyT:

I reread all the comments and I can tell you no one has said Mel Gibson deserved the sentence of a RAPIST. What people are pointing out is that Mike Tyson — whether deserving a harsher punishment or not (I myself believe he should have served a longer period of time) — was convicted for what he (Mike Tyson) did and went to jail.

Gibson (and some of his fans), on the other hand, has repeatedly refused to apologize or even aknowledge that what he’s done was wrong.

  42. Amy says:

Just from a business standpoint, this would have been a bad idea. Mel is going to be poison for any project he’s tied to from now on.

Just look at what happened to Apocalypto after his big “sugartits” fallout. That was a great film, IMO. He’s a violent, bigoted nutter but a talented one. What a waste.

  43. original kate says:

@ cathy t: how can one “butt in” on a public chatboard conversation? i guess we all should only respond to posts addressed to us from now on.

anyhoo…it doesn’t make sense to compare mel to tyson to polanski to whomever. different scenerios for each. and no, while anti-semitic rants are not illegal it should give you an insight into how a person thinks. if someone is ranting about how jews started all the world’s problems i’m going to assume this is a person who has alot of anger towards jews. and while, thankfully, free speech is legal in america punching someone is not legal, nor is threatening to burn down someone’s house.

and before you say mel was just pushed to the edge by oksana or whatever, i have been pushed to the edge by people, too, and have never hit anyone or threatened to burn anything, and most other people haven’t either. because that is not normal adult behavior.

  44. OXA says:

US magazine has an article where the whole cast/crew was up in arms, did not want their careers tainted with his come back attempt and bad press.

    http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/source-hangover-2-cast-said-hell-no-to-mel-gibson-cameo-20102210

  45. Kitten says:

God I love you guys! This is why I ONLY post on Celebitchy. I only wish I was as quick as you all *sigh* 🙂
Anyway, don’t need to retort because you guys covered it all. Happy Friday 🙂

  46. Lucinda says:

The difference between Tyson and Gibson is that Tyson was punished. He served his time in prison and paid for the crime. The man has also gone through some pretty big changes since that time. My husband watched the trial (I’m no fan of Tyson, btw) and he said there was a lot of funny stuff in the trial that lead him to really question whether or not in this particular case Tyson had actually committed the crime he was convicted of. He never said he felt Tyson was a good guy. I totally believe he was a wife-beater. But, my husband did feel Tyson was set up.

Regardless, Tyson did do time and has worked hard to rebuild his public image. He has also repeatedly apologized for his previous behavior. In my mind, he deserved the second chance and why many had no problem with his appearance in the film.

  47. Michele says:

He’s not a rapist like Roman Polanski, nor did he marry his daughter like Woody Allen yet both of those guys are still admired by Hollywood. I mean sure, Mel Gibson has said some really stupid things, but I don’t think he should have been fired. Hopefully he’ll get better roles, or stick to directing…and by directing, I mean directing SANE movies and not crappy ones like the Passion of the Christ or Apocalypto.

  48. Jeri says:

Not a Tyson fan but he was convicted and did time. Mel just keeps skipping away scott free no matter what he does. If you displease him he’ll sic his lawyers on you.

  49. jane16 says:

MG has been terrorizing casts and crews (esp women and minorities) for decades. People have hated him individually for a long long time, and stories got about. After the tapes became public, everyone was talking about him and exchanging mel horror stories, and some of his meaner, nastier stunts really made the rounds. I am not surprised about this at all.

  50. original kate says:

“I mean sure, Mel Gibson has said some really stupid things, but I don’t think he should have been fired.”

@ michele: christine o’donnell says stupid things, ie, “separation of church & state is in the constitution?” mel gibson says misogynistic, anti-semitic, homophobic, violent, threatening things, in addition to getting physical with women. i’m thinking that threatening to burn down his girlfriend’s home, punching her in the mouth and all the enusing bad publicity is what got him fired.

  51. Momica says:

I’ll never watch another Mel Gibson film (unless someone else super hot draws me like Clive Owen, Gerard Butler, etc).

  52. Michele says:

    @ original kate:

Despite the fact that he said those words, how does anyone know that he got physical abused his ex-girlfriend? That “photo” was proved to be fake. He also hasn’t been charged with assault either. Even his ex-wife came forward to say that he never assaulted her. I think Uzi said it perfectly yet no one is saying anything because he or she has some really good points including a court order to see what’s on Oksana’s computer. What could possibly be on there that the judge wants to see that could be linked to extortion?

  53. Kloops says:

I think I’m just going to be a hypocrite on this one. Yeah, Mike Tyson should not have been there and the actors and cast should have spoken out if it offended their sensibilities but for whatever reason he was cast and I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to cast Mel Gibson. Personally, I have always disliked Mel Gibson’s work and off screen personality. Recent events have only reinforced my distaste. The bottom line for me is that I won’t see a movie with him in it.

  54. Debbie says:

Cathy T and Uzi Agree totally with you guys, Couldn’t have put it better, Why is Oinky upset and up in arms about her computer being taken from her by Investigators, Meaning She is hiding something, as For Mel. In time he will be back producing and directing, any way some of these so called actors in Hangover 2 were probably upset at the real reason, why Mel was booked to play his cameo role.

People would be talking abut Mel and not focusing on there roles, Mel would be again the center of attention taking the limelight off them.
Mel does have a great sense of humor and I think that is why they were up in arms.
    Debbie

  55. Cakes says:

Original Kate: If I may butt in to your convo I have one question to your post (#43)….did you ever demand a blow j before jacuzzi??? (Im just teasing, I read your post and I got your message. That jacuzzi comment just popped into my head):)

Cathy-simmer down. Its just a post about Mel G. No need to be so rude to the other posters just because they disagree with your view. Sorry to butt in.

  56. Mairead says:

Unpleasantness aside – I’ve heard that this makes the way clear for Liam Neeson to take the role in The Hangover 2. A much better choice all round I feel!

  57. Jeri says:

I think Oksana has stuff to hide but I am glad she made Mel’s rants & threats public. He has been terrorizing people for a long time while posing as a good happy-go-lucky family guy.

Gee, wonder why he didn’t want folks to know he agreed with white supremacists & violence against women.

  58. nnn says:

    @Cathy T

Don’t forget that we not only heard him humiliating repeatedly a woman, we also heard him humiliating and verbally abusing a damn child with some sexual connotations thrown in the mix !

I beleive THAT is beyond immoral and it touches what is sacred in any society that respect itself. It’s beyond disgusting, it’s abuse through and through and until he doesn’t acknowledged one bit of responsability in the abuse of THAT child at least, he is and will be perceived as a monster.

He has verbally dehumanized and humiliated day by day, insulted and agressed a woman AND THE CHILDREN who were there and lived in the fear of that man

He abused THREE persons, the weakest of any society and doesn’t even acknowledged partial responsability or feels concern about any damage (emotional) he has done to the children.

Frankly after the verbal abuse we all heard to the son of his ex woman, a real man, a real adult would have at least appologized to that kid. Did he even do it ? Hell know, he still comes and goes with no shame at all after what he said about a young boy whose only mistake was to to be the son of Mel Gibson’s victim !

  59. original kate says:

“That “photo” was proved to be fake.”

@ michele: it was “proven” to be true, as in a court of law? when? even if there were no physical proof, don’t you think it would be an easy step from screaming and threatening to kill/rape someone to being physically abusive?

and uzi, it is NOT illegal to tape a conversation if one person knows it is being taped, and oksana knew.

  60. CathyT says:

Me: Responded to the comment below by writing that anti-Semitic and sexist comments are not illegal and not deserving of 3 years in prison.

–>3 years? That’s something and a HELL of a lot more than Gibson ever got. Oh that’s right, he’s never been charged with anything except for a DUI because he “owns Malibu”.
Remember? That was when he went into his racist rant about how “Jews caused all the wars in the world.”<–

Several other posters (not counting Eve and Lucinda): How dare you not join our lynch mob! Mel Gibson is a bad man who said bad things! Lots of other things not relevent to my post!!!!!

  61. CathyT says:

@Eve and Lucinda…If I may paraphrase, your points are that Mike Tyson is different from Mel Gibson because Tyson did his time and repeatedly apologized. My response:

Concerning Mel’s DUI arrest, Mel repeatedly apologized and finished his probation incident-free. Check.

Concerning the Oksana situation, in the immediate aftermath Mel sought help with a psychologist and repeatedly apologized to Oksana (TMZ posted the emails and Oksana got back together with him). In June the tapes were leaked and in July Oksana went to the police. Mel has kept quiet. Should he apologize to the world for a private conversation that was secretly recorded (perhaps illegally)? I’m not convinced he has the obligation to apologize to anyone other than Oksana. Certainly not when his legal case is still pending. (I don’t think Mike Tyson publicly apologized for rape before his trial.) He has the right to due process, and that includes defending himself from any exaggerations by Oksana.

  62. crtb says:

Interesting, the cast of Hangover 2 doesn’t want to work with Mel because he used the N word and insulted Jews. But they all would clammer to work with Roman Polanski who raped and drugged an under-aged girl, and he pled guilty to that charge. Everyone of them would be proud to work with Woody Allen. A pig who married his girlfriend’s daughter and took naked pictures of her while he was still with the girlfriend. Talk about a bunch of hypocrits…

  63. Michele says:

Judaism is not a race, but an ethnic religion; therefore, Mel Gibson’s statement was anti-semitic. But though he has said that along with racist and misogynist statements, yes, it was WRONG, but he didn’t commit any crime nor has he been charged with any. He ex-girlfriend is the one who set him up. How else did those tapes get “leaked”? And now she has an extortion claim against her. Actions speak louder than words.

  64. Lia says:

Zach Galif-whatever is a “who gives a crap if he’s in the move” – performer. Gibson has paid his dues in Hollywood. He had an over-the-top heated argument with a woman who we now know was looking at him as a bank account with a d*ck. Gibson will come back. Galif-whatever will fade away as all mediocre performers do.

  65. Angeleyes says:

Never heard of the first hangover movie or this Zach guy before – Think it’s a no brainer that they are doomed to be big time loosers in life with their attitudes – No one needs a one shot whiner who is going to cause troubles on a movie set –

  66. ultimate hypocrisy says:

This is nothing more than Hollywood at its best, showing such total hypocrisy. Why should Mel be blacklisted when there are others who have committed far worse crimes than him? Hello, Charlie Sheen choked his wife and put a knife to her throat, and unlike Oksana, Brooke actually called the police because she was scared for her life! She was also documented to have actual bruises on her neck and on her arms unlike in Oksana’s photos. But instead of going to jail and being punished, Charlie got a raise from his network. Yep, that speaks volumes of Hollywood’s moral values. The others here have already mentioned actors who have also committed various offences, and i’ll just add a few more to the list: Sean Connery (homophobic sexist woman beater), Alec Baldwin (He verbally abused his 12 year old daughter and his ex Kim Basinger), Christian Bale (accused of assaulting his own mother and sister and verbally abused one of the workers in the movie he was working on), Mark Wahlberg (robbed a store, beat up two asians and left one of them blinded, taunted african american kids with racist words, and then after serving a short time in jail, got involved in yet another violent incident where he beat up a guy and broke his jaw), and btw some people here keep saying that Mike Tyson did his time, paid his dues and so therefore should be forgiven, but he has never acknowledged what he did to his ex wife Robin Givens nor did he publicly apologize for physically abusing her. And from what I’ve read, he is also yet again involved in another violent incident where a photographer has accused him of physically attacking him. So how has he learned his lesson when he’s still attacking people and still refusing to acknowledge the things he’s done wrong? what makes him more acceptable than mel gibson? mel may be a jerk but most of hollywood is, which is why it is the ultimate hypocrisy for them to blacklist him yet at the same continues to condone the actions of others who are as flawed or have done worse things than mel gibson.

@ michele: you still have not told me how oksana’s photos were “proven” to be fake. i really would like to know how you know that.

  68. Geez says:

    # 66…how much did Gibson pay you to write all that crap?

  69. Debbie says:

    Ultimate hypocrisy.

Brilliant you couldn’t have put it better as for the Oinky pic’s word going around is the so called bruising around her temple is from injections

  70. Geez says:

^ stop calling the woman a pig…such word works a lot better to describe Gibson instead.

To all the Mel defenders- fair or not a lot of Americans who heard Mel’s tapes heard a side of him that makes it hard to suspend disbelief when watching him in a film. I loved a lot of his early stuff, especially, and when I try to watch them after hearing all that disturbing hateful talk, I just can’t separate it. Grown ups don’t talk to people like that no matter how provoked they are and I just can’t get past that. And I suspect the cast and crew didn’t want the backlash on the film. I some how doubt that much of it was about morals.

@ michele: yeah, those are truly trustworthy sites you provided. i really liked the second one where oksana’s photo was drawn on, a la perez hilton. i’m talking about real, legal proof that her photos were “proven” to be false, not some gossip boards. but thanks for the laugh.

The Mel Gibson situation is still on going and is still being played out in public.
