Ed Harris bringing the History of Violence in to the present.

Ed Harris was videotaped, photographed and found pretty much being a total a**hole (okay, that last part was just my impression) yesterday afternoon outside the Newsroom Cafe because he was cussing out a videographer and trying to pull away her (yes, HER) camera because he didn’t want to be filmed.

“A” The last time he was filmed in anything good was 2002 (How good was The Hours?)

“B” If he had any hair left on his head you know he is on his way to a Britney Spears meltdown. Have you seen this clip from The History of Violence press conference?

…yeah, someone needs to be medicated. Ironically the film he is in pre-production on is called Once Fallen.

Thanks to WENN for these pictures.

Well he was excellent in The Human Stain (2003). Really good actor, like him a lot. Kind of lame to slag him off on the strength of a random run-in without knowing the circumstances.

  2. jessiee says:

I love Ed Harris. Love him.

  3. CiCi says:

Also he was in Gone Baby Gone just last year – good movie.

  4. LL says:

Ed is a great actor and not a “famewhore” like so many in Hollywood. Love the guy. Female paparazzi are just as bad as the males, so why should they get slack? (I am female)

  5. ri23 says:

@LL: Exactly. This isn’t some hack celebrity. This is Ed Fucking Harris, one of the best actors ever. Not everyone in L.A. wants the paps in their faces. This guy is old school and doesn’t have to be a fame whore. He has talent and actually works for a living.

  6. Wif says:

She doesn’t look like she feels threatened at all. That clip from the press conference is a little frightening though.

  7. adleisia says:

…I personally wouldn’t call The Hours good. I fell asleep. Twice. ITA with Cici though–Gone Baby Gone was fantastic.

  8. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

He was good in The Hours… and really good in History of Violence (2005).

Agree with LL – Harris is a real Actor. Don’t piss him off, paps.

  9. daisy42465 says:

Good actor or not, in that clip he seems arrogant.

  10. jinx says:

He was great in HOV, and without Ed the movie Touching Home would not have been made, it’s an indy that’s making the film fest circuit right now, and if you really love films, go see it.

He does a lot of amazing work, and he has the right to go get breakfast without being molested.

I realize that bloggers live and die by photos but nobody owes their lives to these photographers. If you have ever seen a swarm of them go after someone, you can understand why you would have a breakdowan it’s frightening to even witness never mind be in the midst.

Someone is going to die, due to those jackels. It’s gotten dangerous and there are more people than Ed Harris who want this to end.

  11. KateNonymous says:

I don’t see Ed Harris’s picture plastered across newsstands. He seems to work at living his life in private. And he’s an amazing actor. And having been held up in traffic by paps, I don’t have a lot of sympathy for them.

  12. fee says:

hahahahahaha after watching him at that press conference you’d have to have brass balls – or boobs – to go chasing him with a camera when he doesnt want to get filmed….

  13. desultory says:

That video clip is totally edited. Sure it was odd for him to pound the table and throw his glass but he was probably doing it in response to a question and to make a point about the central theme of the movie (HOV) and not just as an out of the blue freak out. Pretty weak sauce of Celebitchy to make that ‘last good movie was in 2002’ comment. Do they do any research at all?

  14. Snowblood says:

This is ridiculous, Ed Harris is one of the few greats in the art of acting, that youtube thing was spliced up like Desultory said, and the man has every fucking RIGHT to grab some pushy-ass pap’s camera and tell her to fuck off if he doesn’t want to be photographed.

Ed Harris a great artist, intense, not fakey-poo and super-soft like the myriads of nice, average, pretty-boy actors out there. Why this dissage, here? This article reads like some TMZ junk, no offense Micah but really, this one’s just not right.

  15. anon69 says:

Love him. I’m sure he considers himself and actor, not a celebrity. He doesn’t seek out the attention and doesn’t want it. Rock on Ed.

  16. geronimo says:

So right, snowblood, he’s a very gifted actor. Such an unlikely person to have a problem with. ?

  17. Blackalicious says:

The Human Stain (also with Kidman, and Anthony Hopkins..stellar movie) was so well written and well cast.
Gone Baby Gone was a surprise (Ben Affleck, who knew?!) and Harris was superior in that, too. He was AMAZING in Pollack (the movie about the crazy but brilliant painter) and I have not seen one anemic or overacted performance by him ever. He consistently turns in his best work as opposed to resting on his Laurels or becoming a parody of himself (I’m talking to YOU, Pacino and DeNiro!)
He’s the real deal. We never read about his personal life which is perfect; we can appreciate his characters totally in context. I mean, be honest: when you see Tom Cruise (who is a good actor, no doubt) or someone else on tabloid pages up on the screen- ever find yourself thinking of their drug/sex fetish/latest police run in? yeah.

Also- I’m curious- I see comments that press conference clip was edited by Celebitchy.. that doesn’t seem to be your style here. Maybe it was edited when you picked it up and you didn’t know? I mean, I watched it twice and it seems like it jumps right to his ‘meltdown’ but I could not hear the question which triggered the whole thing. It seems like a non sequitor; anyone else ever see the whole clip?

  18. Blackalicious says:

Oh- I wanted to add that I think the best actors are a little intense i.e. what would be perceived as ‘crazy’ by most of us. I’m thinking of actors like Gary Oldman or John Malcovich here. I guess you have to have to be willing to go to certain places in the pysche that most of us would rather leave unexplored to be a great actor; these guys do it with aplomb.

  19. Celebitchy says:

@blackalicious – the youtube video of the press conference was posted by someone else, we didn’t edit it at all, it was edited by the user who posted it.

  20. Blackalicious says:

@ celebitchy- thanks. Yeah, I wasn’t yelling at you for splicing it or whatnot, I just read some comments here that said that. I didn’t think you were being intentionally cagey 🙂

  21. tvf says:

“trying to pull away her (yes, HER) camera”

was that comment made because you’re somehow thinking that being female gives her some right to get pushy that men don’t have, or because she has the chest of a 12-year-old boy?

  22. drm says:

I’ve always thought he was a great actor but when I saw the pics of him pulling the camera away from the pap I thought “that’s Ed Harris???” Wouldn’t have recognised him…

  23. Erica says:

Love him too. He’s an amazing actor. And what does the fact that he’s balding have to do with anything? That’s a very Perez comment to make.

  24. Amy says:

If I were minding my own, carrying my crossword puzzle and some bitch put a camera in my face, I’d be annoyed. If she kept doing it after I asked her to stop, I’d do exactly what Harris did.

He and his wife are awesome actors and live secluded on a ranch. Neither one of them suffer fools gladly and probably loathe paparazzi.

  25. Suzie says:

I am a fan of Ed’s and we havent really seen him in this light. He could have just had a bad day and we are entitled to those days. True, a celebrity gives up some right to their privacy for being a celebrity but I would cut him some slack….

  26. Hamilton25 says:

Mr. Glenn you are waaay out of line.

  27. Luna says:

Trust me I loves me some Ed! I think he just doesn’t want to be bothered on his time off. Also, might I suggest my services for one on one “anger management”.Okay , so I’m not a therapist, well so to speak. The kind of “therapy” that I’d like to offer is in the form of He and I alone together for a few hours so I can freak him down hard and nasty!!I think that just might work for him.He might get annoyed by the head-splinters ,though.

  28. Yung Phreeks Luv Ed! says:

Mmmm!!I wonder if he’s looking for a mistress/sex toy in her mid-20’s? I can certainly help him with releasing all that frustration! I don’t care how the vids perceive him! He’s still The Sexiest Man Alive! I’d love nothing more than to spend at least 4 hours alone with his sexxy ass! If only for the sole purpose of Slamming Each Other Like Screen Doors in a Hurricane!!! Now THAT would put a smile on him Sooo FAST,mine too,for that matter!

  29. hugh says:

lucky the cunt didn’t get it shoved up her lesbo snatch..oh well, may be next time

  30. TrueDeal says:

Ed had every right to be upset and furious at the transgendered pap!!! Ed has been acting for decades… He’s not some hot-at-the-moment flash in the pan like Zac Efron or Vin Diesel… He’s a highly respected ACTOR who keeps his life private for himself and his family. She was in the wrong! And PS he’s from Jersey – you just don’t mess with Jersey boys like that.

  31. davo says:

So why are these losers filming him walking around? Leave him alone. Imagine if a bunch of idiots were filming you going to store buying the newspaper. fuck the paprazzi I say
