How is Elisabetta Canalis able to hold on for so long? I was just thinking about her the other day – wondering why we hadn’t heard anything from her recently. It looks like she was biding her time, waiting patiently, doing filthy things to George Clooney in the privacy of their Chamber of Doom and Whips. The event was The Human Rights Ripple of Hope Awards – Clooney got an award for his work in Sudan, and his total activism and advocacy, I would imagine.
George Clooney was pleased to hear Ryan Reynolds is PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive this year – or perhaps more accurately, he’s relieved it isn’t someone else.
“I’m very happy for him,” Clooney said graciously at a humanitarian awards dinner in New York on Wednesday. He then added, jokingly: “I’m also happy that it’s not Brad [Pitt].”
Clooney and Pitt are both multiple winners of the award – the former in 1997 and 2006, the latter in 1995 and 2000.
Clooney, 49, who is active in humanitarian causes, was on hand at Chelsea Piers to accept a different honor: the Ripple of Hope Award at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights awards dinner.
“It’s really a lovely thing,” the Oscar winner said of the recognition. “I feel over-honored, but I’m happy to be able to do it to bring attention to a lot of other people here.”
It was a family affair, as Clooney was accompanied by his father, Nick Clooney, as well as his girlfriend, Italian TV host Elisabetta Canalis, 32.
Given the actor’s popularity and interest in politics, running for president wouldn’t seem out of the question. Asked why he hasn’t yet, Clooney joked, “Because I don’t have the ties for it.”

I think this photo op has to do with the bit part Clooney got her on the TNT show Leverage. The season finale doesn’t air until December, so Clooney feels obligated to continue giving her and the show publicity until then. I don’t think he realized how horrible an actress she is when he got her that role as part of their publicity agreement, but now he likely feels obliged to do what he can to help the show.
About the photos, I thought it was funny that she’s tossing her head into the air again like a horse. LOL!

@min, of course George cares about TNT. He co-executive produces Delta Blues for TNT and has other professional ties with the network. Aside from that, George is a man of his word, and a contract is a form of giving one’s word. He made a deal and intends to see it through no matter how much it obviously pains and saddens him at this point. She’ll be gone by the end of the year.

I don’t think awards season is a factor, since George will probably not be up for any awards this time. He had just one movie come out this year to very mixed reviews. Even if he were up for an award, I can’t see him putting up with Canalis one second longer than he has to.
Like a lot of other people, Clooney has collected a lot of humanitarian awards – BUT – I note that the problems they purport to be interested in are still as bad or that conditions have worsened, eg Haiti / telethon and Sudan / war, genocide, etc.
So much money has been collected from the hard-up masses of people so many times – and I note there is no accountability for it – where does it all go?
I totally disagree with Clooney that shining a light in places according to his whims and fancies is equal to making any wonderful contribution – if he genuinely cared about these problems and less about looking good, he would do something about them instead of delivering patronising opinions.
I say this as someone who is an active volunteer and who has worked with people who give up their personal time, money, professional skills etc to make a difference to masses of victims of disasters without any desire for recognition, publicity, awards, money, looking good for the media etc.
And – everytime I see Grandpa and the Happy Hooker together – it does make me laugh – just because everyone thought he actually had the potential to go all the way and all the time he was something dirty.

@ Elm GC isn’t claiming to have the power to change world policy alone what he (amoung others) is actually doing is lobbying world leaders who actually have the power to work on these policies. It isn’t his fault if there is still war. Look at Bono and what came about in the drug policies for Aids drugs to Africa specifically because he spoke out on the issue.

I just noticed that he doesn’t look at her and avoids touching her in nearly all of the pics. He seems to try to find anything else to do with the hand nearest her except touch her. She keeps leaning into him, whether to try to push him out of the shot or to force him to touch her, who knows. He’s an actor and could put on a convincing show if he wanted to, and the fact that he doesn’t even bother to do that speaks volumes.

What I have seen to work is when people actually go out there and do something, eg when doctors go out and provide medical services … or when a group goes out and feeds 40K people a day … instead of what all the celebrities do to go and pose for a short time … maybe make a program or interview …. go talk to some leaders … and nothing changes … but they think that they are somehow experts or something special because of the media attention on them for going to a sad area.
I am looking for effective change … and I am realist enough to believe that will happen only when the a sufficient mass of people say ‘enough’ !
Enough of the greed of a few to exploit everybody and everything. The world contains enough of all resources (food, energy, oil, etc) to go around.

@Brenda, these arranged girlfriends have only fueled the gay rumors. People can tell it’s not a real relationship, and a beard would be a logical reason to have a fake girlfriend. Another logical reason to have a fake girlfriend with ties to the escort business would be some kind of skank fetish, which is a theory many people put out there as an alternate to the gay theory. That is unless you’re a certain sleazy gossip columnist, and then you put out both theories for pure sensationalism even though they are mutually exclusive. Personally I don’t think George is gay, nor does he have a skank fetish.
Both Canalis and Larson worked for clubs alleged and likely to have used escorts. If Canalis did not work as an escort, she certainly associated with the same club that used escorts, and that being the situation was offered the job as a contract girlfriend. It was a unique situation in that she had both worked in the Italian entertainment business and also had ties to a club that used escorts. Larson was also in a unique situation, having worked for a Las Vegas club and also having some little experience in the entertainment business when she did that reality show. Those same variables occurring with both of Clooney’s last two “girlfriends” make it pretty obvious that this was a business arrangement. Canalis and Larson did not necessarily work as escorts, but they had the ties that could have arranged for a similar type of contract.
My personal theory, as I’ve stated before, is that Clooney’s relationship with Canalis is a publicity contract, and that his relationship with Larson was the same. An escort service would have plenty of women from which to choose for such a contract, and it would make sense to choose a woman with at least some work in TV or movies who is so hungry for publicity/famewhoring that she would agree to such an arrangement. Canalis should have been vetted much better, but in a way it’s probably good for Clooney that she’s been such a disaster, as hopefully he will stop doing the contract girlfriend thing. I hope he is paying attention to how much this “relationship” has cost his reputation.
