Keira Knightley refuses digital breast enhancement

By most people’s impressions, Keira Knightley might have some body issues. She’s rail thin, though constantly denying that she has an eating disorder. And while looking at her arms makes you think she must have an unhealthy body image, she’s shown a remarkably good attitude about her breasts – or lack thereof. Keira says she’s fine with the way her chest looks – and is refusing to have it digitally enhanced for her upcoming film The Duchess.

Keira Knightley has refused to allow any enhancement of her cleavage on publicity photos for her upcoming movie, “The Duchess,” Britain’s Daily Mail reports. Studio heads reportedly want to enlarge Knightley’s bosom in the photos, but the actress, 23, put her foot down.

“She has insisted that her figure stay in its natural state,” an insider said. “She is proud of her body and doesn’t want it altered.” This isn’t the first time Knightley has faced this dilemma. The actress drew negative attention in 2004 with her larger-than-usual breasts in publicity stills for “King Arthur.”

“Those things certainly weren’t mine,” Fox News quoted her as saying in 2006. According to Knightley, the studio marketing team was behind her suddenly C-cup breasts, but gave her final approval on the photos. “I was like, ‘OK, fine. I honestly don’t give a s—,’” she recalled.

Knightley has expressed dissatisfaction with her small bustline. “I would love to have [breasts]!” she told Britain’s GMTV last year, adding, “I’m never going to get [them]. I’m naturally who I am.” While she’s a fan of going au naturale in “The Duchess,” Knightley looks “flat-chested in the whole movie,” the source says.

The “insider’s” statement that Keira is, “‘proud of her body and doesn’t want it altered,” goes against Knightley’s own statement that she would love to have breasts. But it seems like what they’re getting at is Keira has made peace with her chest and doesn’t want to lie about it, or promote the idea that women need a big rack to be sexy. And she’s clearly okay with her bust – she’s bared her tater tots in five different films.

It’s hard to tell if she’ s being honest with herself in terms of eating/weight issues, but kudos to Keira for standing up for her bust.

  1. From the performances I’ve seen of hers, she could use digital enhancement with her acting.

  2. Uh oh, Keira, never say never, it will always come back to bite you.

Maybe after a couple of kids and her breasts look like a marble in a tube sock, she might change her mind. :-)

  3. Well, well done her say I. Not everyone is rail-thin but not everyone is naturally curvy either.

She is really skinny on top, but her legs have always seemed quite muscular and healthy. I think she’s just at the skinny end of a “pear shape”

  4. I don’t think the two statements contradict each other. I mean, I’d love to be 5′9″, but I’m still (mostly) proud of my body.

I really don’t think she has an eating disorder either. I know people are gonna jump all over her, but she really is just tiny. She bulked up for Bend it like Beckham & went back to her normal self after.

    Here here Mariead!

  5. I am as thin as Keira Knightley and I don’t have an eating disorder. In fact I eat everything and much of it. It’s just my metabolism and I find it absolutely believable same might be the case with her and that sometimes she loses weight due to stress - so do I. If you are naturally that thin, you look like a skeleton even if you only dropped 3 or 4 pounds.

And power to her for standing up for her breasts! It’s time to bring back to public knowledge that very thin women usually don’t have big breasts.

  6. Brava. Be happy with what you have. I think she is lovely. I am tall and thin and have friends who joke I should be augmented so I don’t always look like a teenage boy.

I am happy with my looks and she should be too, I have always found her to be lovely.

  7. I personally dislike a large bosom. I don’t like it when I gain wait.

Large breasts can age too quickly and can be very unnatractive when they’re veiny or stretchmarky or just in general.

I also don’t think her statements contradict each other because when she says she’d love large breasts she adds “I am who I am” at the end.

  9. I gotta admit that many many many times a day I’m reminded about how “bad” my small boobies are in today’s society by tv, magazines, books, internet, etc… It’s hard not to let it get you down or make you want to “fix” what you’re taught to believe is a flaw. Not everyone wants to have silicone(or whatever they’re using these days) shoved into their body just to fit societies standards of beauty. :?

So, it’s great to see celebs with the same small boob “problem” speaking out and letting the world know that you don’t have to have big ole hooters to be pretty or successful. Yay, Keira!

  11. Jaundice Machine:

Of course she’s proud of her body - it takes years of neurotic self-control to stay that thin! Why would she want to ruin a good thing?

Oh, I kid, I kid. Keira is a beautiful girl, and I’m glad she’s stood her ground. Beauty comes in all different shapes, colors and sizes, and I’m glad Keira is satisfied with who she is. Good on her.

  13. Because I say So:

I love Keira, I really do, but she just needs to shut up about her body already. If she doesn’t want the speculation about eating disorders, her breasts, or what have you, then she needs to stop talking about it 24/7. Her eating disorder rumors will probably never go away (and I don’t think she has one, for what it’s worth), but her constant “I love my body but—” statements are getting pretty annoying.

  14. She has a cute face. But her body looks like it belongs to a 12-year old boy. Not my cup of tea.

  15. As a woman with ridiculously large breasts, I can attest to the fact that having a huge rack is an f’ing pain, in more ways than you can imagine. I know you should be happy with the body that you have, but I dream longinly of having small, perky breasts like Keira has. Kudos for her for being content with her body. If I wasn’t afraid of going under the knife, I would have mine lopped off in a heartbeat.

  16. If she got fakes it would look disgusting - like oranges bolted to her chest. Think Victoria Beckham. Even a good doctor couldn’t work with skin over a ribcage. Nothing wrong with being that skinny but it wouldn’t work with nasty fakes.

I’m still laughing a the “marble in a tube sock” comment above.

  17. I totally agree with Mairead…
You only have to look at her legs to know that she is NOT anorexic!
