Kim Kardashian covers Glamour, Katie Couric girl-crushes on her

kk3

You know what kills me? It kills me that Kim Kardashian looks really good when she’s styled by professionals. When she’s doing a formal photo shoot, Kim rarely looks cat-faced, although her face does tend towards “farty” in professional shoots. She’s a terrible model, in general, but the difference between Kim for a magazine shoot and Kim in real life is drastic. What also kills me is that I rarely see a magazine pictorial with someone like Christina Hendricks, a pale, busty redhead, where the pros even try to make her look half as pretty as Kim Kardashian. I think the pros must have some kind of collective trauma when it comes to pale redheads, and tan brunettes are their comfort zone.

Anyway, here are some photos from Kim Kardashian’s Glamour Magazine cover shoot. Katie Couric did the interview (full piece here). The fact the a network news anchor is interviewing Kim Kardashian… yeah. That sucks. Here are some highlights:

Katie Couric: You are such a phenomenon right now that I wanted to first ask: Why do you think you have so completely captivated the public’s imagination?
Kim Kardashian: At first, I think that people were intrigued by the glitz and glam of my family’s lifestyle in California. But they stayed interested because we were a lot more normal and relatable than they had assumed. We might be spoiled in some people’s eyes, but we are not brats. I get letters from little girls begging me to adopt them.

Katie Couric: Why? What is it about your family?
Kim Kardashian: We work really hard, and we fight like normal sisters fight, and we make up. We’re so supportive of each other. We always stick together. Having lots of siblings is like having built-in best friends. I also think that my parents did a really good job of putting their [divorce] behind them. We had family vacations together. It might seem odd to some people, but Father’s Day included all of us—Bruce, my dad, my brother, my sisters, cooking breakfast at my mom’s house, and all the guys golfing together. We [still] do everything we can to keep my father’s presence really heavy in our everyday lives. [Kardashian’s father died of cancer in 2003.]

Katie Couric: Is it bizarre having every aspect of your life recorded?
Kim Kardashian: I once commented to Lamar [Odom, Khloeacute;’s husband, who plays for the L.A. Lakers] after I introduced him to a guy I was dating, “Do you think the cameras freaked him out? I hope he gets used to it and knows it’s normal.” And Lamar looked at me and said, “What you need to really understand is this isn’t normal.” But as a family, we realize that this life is crazy, but as long as we don’t change and we all stick together, nothing can affect us.

Katie Couric: Can you go out on a date, Kim, and say, “This is just me and there are no cameras”?
Kim Kardashian: Oh, absolutely. But it’s easier to just be single and not have a relationship. How do you get to know someone on a reality show? Some people think that they can handle it, and then they really can’t.

Katie Couric: I can’t imagine, if I were a guy, signing up for that. I would be like, “Check, please.”
Kim Kardashian: [Laughs.] Exactly! Hence, I’m single right now.

Katie Couric: You’re known to be quite a workaholic, and I mean that in a positive way, as it takes one to know one. [Laughs.] How did your parents instill such a strong work ethic in you? Where did you get your entrepreneurial streak?
Kim Kardashian: Being little and watching my dad get up, put on his suit every single day, go to work—seeing how hard he worked. He let us know that when we turned 18, we were going to be cut off, and we had to sign a contract for everything. When I was 16 and it was car time, it was negotiated that I had to pay for my gas, and if I crashed the car, if anything happened, I was liable. Everything was a contract with my dad. And I still have them—I saved them all. Well, when I was 16, I bumped someone and I had to pay for it. So I got a job working at a clothing store, and ever since then I’ve loved to work.

Katie Couric: Did your father encourage you girls to go to college?
Kim Kardashian: Absolutely. I went to college for four years. I got married at 19 [to music producer Damon Thomas, whom she later divorced], so I ended up not finishing. But the last thing [my dad] said to me before he passed away was “I know you’ll be OK. You will be successful.”

Katie Couric: Because a lot of young women read this magazine, I wanted to ask you about issues you’ve had with your body in the past and growing up and being bullied. You developed early, is that true?
Kim Kardashian: Kourtney probably bullied me the most because she hadn’t developed. She was always making fun of me. I mean, when I was 11 I was a C-cup and I got my period. I was just insecure.

Katie Couric: But how did you sort of come to love, accept and appreciate the body you had?
Kim Kardashian: I remember I would sit in the bathtub, and I would put a hot washcloth on my boobs and think, Please, Lord, just please, I don’t want to grow any bigger. I would cry. My mom would say, “You are going to love this one day.” And she was like, “You’re Armenian. Look at all your aunts. They’re super curvy, and this is your family. This is who you are.” We were raised around all of our Armenian cousins, and I know a lot about the culture. So I think that made me confident in who I am.

Katie Couric: Let’s get to some reader questions. This is Glamour’s Guy Issue. What would you do if you woke up as a man?
Kim Kardashian: I love being a girl. I’m such a glamour girl. I would be a tranny! [Laughs.] I would find a wig.

Katie Couric: I think I know the answer to this, but I’m going to ask it anyway. How do you feel about being a sex symbol? Is it empowering or degrading?
Kim Kardashian: It’s definitely powerful. I don’t find myself as sexy as everyone thinks. I’m a lot more insecure than people would assume, but with little stupid things. When I get dressed, I’m always so indecisive.

[From Glamour]

Ugh. Katie Couric was actually sucking up to her for most of the interview. I get that Kim is relatively harmless (honestly, she is), but that doesn’t mean we should go out of our way to suck up to her. And I’m so, so tired of hearing about Kim being a “businesswoman”. She’s not. She’s a famewhore who gets paid. There’s a difference.

Jesus Christ, America has hit a new low with the starization of this starlet who got her big break for leaking a sex tape and some urine showers from her nasty boyfriend.

  2. maya says:

Kim Kardashian keeps winning. She is on the cover of Glamour magazine and being interviewed by Katie Couric. Kim said absolutely nothing new in this interview. Her and her sisters say the samething in every interview they do.

On another note, I wonder when Lamar Odom will realize that no one is interested in him and Khloe (less attractive) Kardashian? The only covers that Khloe or Kourtney cover are tabloids. They have yet to be on the cover of a fashion magazine. Khloe and Lamar were on the cover of People Magazine holiday edition, only after Kim had landed the cover of People Magazine.

  3. guesty says:

kim actually looks like kim in these pics. pretty.

*hands katie a box of tissues* brown noser.

  4. Tess says:

And katie Couric is revealing herself as nothing more than a kiss-ass Pied Piper for the further degradation of our culture.

  5. Eve says:

So all I have to do in order to be undeservingly famous is releasing…I mean, having a lousy sex tape “leaked”?

  6. malachais says:

She looks nice on these pictures, but I don’t find her to be a sex symbol. Reality star, famewhore, yes.

@maya, I personally like Khloe more than the rest of the Kardashians. She doesn’t come off as a famewhore and seems pretty cool. She doesn’t have as much surgery done either.

  7. Nicole says:

this girl tries so hard to channel J-Ho

  8. 4Real says:

Her face is litterally frozen in that same look. She is botoxed within an inch of her life now. Oh well its better then having PARIS on every cover I suppose…

  9. mln76 says:

I think Couric should get her journalist credentials taken away.

  10. December says:

    What the hell did they do to Kim’s legs? They look like they’re made of wax. O.O;

  11. TeeTee says:

    She’s lying again!!

I went to college for 4 yrs but I didn’t finish”

Damn she’s dumb and boring, the same old topics and the same lonely and single line..she may be rich but she’s
    lonely..

The Kartrashians are slowllly dwindling away, her poor fans–women that long to be like her, LOL

  12. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    @nnn……… ewwww.. but RIGHT??

I like Khloe the best too.

  13. nnn says:

    LOL # 12

I thought everyone knew that before Mayer there were Ray J, the original urinator who did nasty things with his urine and his then girlfriend : Kim.

  14. DoMaJoReMc says:

I must have that red dress! I think she looks much prettier and softer with her hair parted on the side.

  15. wonderwoman21 says:

How did she finish for years of college by 19 and yet have no degree? And she says she didn’t finish because she got married…so basically she dropped out of college as a teen to marry some idiot after accomplishing nothing. Yep, sounds like a Kartrashian. And does she honestly believe her hard working father would be proud that she leaked her own lame sex tape so she could get famous and now makes money of her large breast and butt implants and paralyzed face? Seriously I bet her father is rolling over in his grave. Since when was making money of your body considered being a “businesswoman”? And yeah Kim we can all tell you’re insecure, its actually pretty f’in obvious.

  16. Riley says:

I don’t know why i care at all about this family, but one burning question I have, is what about Bruce’s children, particularly Brody Jenner? I watched a few episodes of the Hills over the holidays, and I caught myself thinking, Brody is never in the “Kardashian Holiday Family Photo.” Does he get on with the clan or his he a black sheep. I would be kind of pissed if Kris (who annoys the crap out of me) was my step mom. She never talks about Bruce’s other children and seems to have shut them out of the “Kardashian Family.”

  17. Ferguson. says:

wow, she actually looks good in those pictures

  18. fi says:

Wow, did they actually photoshop her nose to look wider in the cover photo? Plus, what the hell is going on with her legs in the last photo? Her arm and boob in the second photo? It’s like another picture was cropped into them.

  19. the original bellaluna says:

@ Riley – I would totally distance myself from this family, if I was in any way, shape, or form related to them! Some sh!t you just can’t live down.

  20. tattoofreak says:

Im not a fan of Kim, but this girl looks freaking gorgeous in these pictures.

  21. Garvels says:

This epitomizes what is wrong with Network News in today’s world of tabloid journalism. The Hard news has been taken over by Lohan and Kardashian dramas. Today tough investigative reporting entails googling the net and paying off the paps. The Network news should get real and stop pretending to charade as a hard news outlet and fire their overpaid talking heads such as Couric, Sawyer and Brian Williams and just hire entertainment journalists. I think they would find this move to be quite profitable.

  22. original kate says:

why is this chick famous again? oh yeah – she let her boyfriend tape himself peeing on her. that’s a role model for sure.

  23. Tess says:

    @ Garvels

I’m with you. It would be a refreshingly honest move for the nets to quit pretending to be unbiased, hard news reporters.

Anyone who makes an effort to be well informed knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the nets and their overpayed and insufferably pompous anchors are reporting from a leftist perspective.

And profitability is NOT their goal. The goal must be propaganda, pure and simple. If they cared about profits, they’d try to appeal to the roughly half of the potential audience that does not routinely vote Democrat.

  24. Bodhi says:

I am clearly in the minority, but I think she is a fabulous businesswoman. Yeah, she became famous for being Paris Hilton’s sidekick & for her sex tape, but she have channeled that flash-in-the-pan “fame” into a legitimate business empire & that is no small feat.

  25. jover says:

Agree with everyone esp. nnn, tess, and garvels – what is also galling is that Katie couldn’t heap enough scorn on bush and his know nothing supporters (deserved but not from this media bimbo) and then she interviews a Kartrashian as though it’s Hillary Clinton or Margaret Thatcher. The network news shows are a joke, irrespective of political leanings – the only thing news worthy about them is that they still you/abuse the term news, and yes only in an alternate universe is couric worth millions she’s as vacant and illiterate as the many she looks down upon.

  26. Hautie says:

These are good pictures of Kim. She has been obsessed lately with the tragical looking fake spider lashes.

Which I find incredibly distracting to even look at her. She just does not need all that crap on her face.

The one redeeming thing for Kim is that she beat Paris in the fame game.

Paris is a complete joke now. And for that alone I will give Kim a pass. Simply cause I assume that Paris is p*ssed that Kim has done so well.

  27. Kim says:

I doubt her dads ideal of success meant being peed on in a sex tape then selling it to become infamous! Shes trash!

Kim Kardashian makes Paris look classy.

  28. Tess says:

Life is so strange and unpredictable.

After just about everyone turned away from OJ Simpson with a terrible sense of revulsion…who but our dishonorable main stream media should foist his circle of intimate friends upon us in never ending waves?

We have this coven of Kardashians and Hiltons, in generational iterations, relentlessly flakked. On mag covers, on TV…there’s no end.

The Housewives of Bev Hills is the latest example, with the sisters Kim and Kyle, Faye Resnick, and Linda Thompson, all closely connected to OJ’s circle of friends.

The media elites can’t seem to get enough of this crowd. Coming soon: the lil’ Jenners.

  29. notsoanonymous says:

@16 Riley – I admit, I watch the show and agree that very rarely are Bruce’s older kids acknowledged. I say rarely because at least once Brody’s older brother was on ‘Keeping Up’ in a scene with his dad. With Brody specifically, I can’t help but wonder if it is contractual in nature – especially since at the time the show began airing on E!, Brody was starring on MTV’s The Hills, essentially competing in the same genre as the Kardashian’s shows were. The fact that he isn’t in the ‘Christmas Photos’ released to the press just means he isn’t a part of that aspect of their family publicity. Besides, do you honestly think that they mail that out to people?? I certainly hope not…

Another example of a child being ‘ignored’ on a reality show would be Aimee Osbourne, who is the eldest of Ozzy and Sharon’s children – she didn’t want to be on television and declined to sign up for the show, so she wasn’t mentioned often and has gotten very little press.

I remain very doubtful that exclusion on a reality show has anything to do with how these people are treated in their actual families.

And?? I co-sign Bohdi. I’m in the minority too, but I think Kim (and Jessica Simpson) are both brilliant businesswomen who use the fame-game to their advantage, raking in millions of dollars simply by surrounding themselves with good people and signing stellar contracts.

  30. Lola7 says:

She looks gorgeous in these pics. Thats where it all ends.

  31. lucy2 says:

Katie Couric, you should be ashamed of yourself.

  32. Bodhi says:

I’m glad to know that I’m not alone!! 🙂

  33. maya says:

BTW – Kim looks drop dead gorgeous in these pictures.

  34. JenJen says:

I am so sick of this annoying family saying they work hard! At what? They have no idea what it means. Running track doesn’t count.

  35. HotPockets says:

    Let me correct you Celebitchy.

Making a sex tape, pretending not to know it wasn’t released, making a profit off of it and then fame whoring yourself ever since isn’t a career? If that’s not an outstanding business woman I don’t know what is?

  36. Evelyn says:

I know everyone is going to hate me for saying this, but I like Kim Kardashian. She seems sweet and shes tight with her family which I admire. I know she always talks about her sisters and her dad but its because she loves them and legitimately misses her dad. I found the part where she said she saved all the contracts very sweet. And while she’s not really famous for anything, she loves her body which isn’t disgustingly skinny and puts a lot of importance on family which hopefully girls emulate. I don’t know, she just seems like a spacey starlet with a good heart

  37. Garvels says:

@not so annonymous & Bohdi-I somewhat agree with you in terms of business savvy but I am somewhat skeptical in attributing Kim and Jessica S. with the business acumen in creating their respective empires(I use the term empire loosely)-It seems like both Kim’s and Jessica’s parents run their lives and pull the strings.

At least Jessica was a reasonably talented recording artist when she was younger. Jessica S. worked at developing her voice. Her name recognition came about do to actually having some talent.

Kim on the other hand is not a super model(does not even remotely look like one),never sang before now, never experienced success as an actress or a dancer for that matter. Her persona was created by her mother and her mother’s family connections as well as a strategically released sex tape that provided seed money for the development of the Kardashian Enterprise. I am a big fan of the entrepreneurial spirit but I get really irritated with Talk show hosts, reporters like Katie Couric and magazines like People rewarding this manufactured fraud by fawning over her like she was celebrity royalty. I truly would like to know who is buying their garbage. One would have to be devoid of taste and hobbies to become so engrossed with the Kartrashians.

More than anything I blame E! and Ryan Seacrest for perpetuating this fraud. This whole Kardashian phenomenon reminds me of the Fairytale,”the Emperor was wearing no clothes” and in this case it is “Kim Kardashian has no talent”…and clothes for that matter….ha ha:)

Sorry for the long posts but I have so many friends who are poorly compensated actors and musicians who actually are quite talented. They do get selected for major theater roles but the pay stinks. I just attended a cd release for a talented musician/singer/writer at a local coffee shop-What he wouldn’t give to have Kim Kardashian’s opportunities.

  38. Oi says:

That bottom pic of her with her legs showing from under her dress is a PSD. Where is her left calf if she has one foot in front of the other like that?

And: the black and white one above it is too. She looks like she had polio. legs are too small for that body.

  39. Bodhi says:

@Garvels ~ I understand where you’re coming from & I agree. Hell, I went to college & owe the federal gov’t $20,000 for a degree that, to be perfectly honest, doesn’t get me anywhere (but thats a WHOLE ‘nother rant…). $20,000 is Berkin money to the Kardashians & that makes me BATSHIT crazy.

  40. Dea says:

I can’t believe Katie did this interview. There is no more fine journalism. I had a huge respect for Katie Couric but no more. Katie is treating this delusional woman better than other people she has interviewed until now. Shame on you, Katie for promoting this pathetic human being. I hope you do not teach your daughters to make a sex tape so they can become famous some day and be interviewed by a famous journalist.

  41. Candice says:

Kim looks really good here. I must say Glamour did an excellent job with photoshop.

  42. LittleDeadGirl says:

Wow she looks rather beautiful in these photos. Maybe she’ll stop slathering makeup on with a butter knife. The only thing I don’t hate about her is that she talked on her show about not being a big drinker and resisted the peer pressure from her sisters to get drunk off her ass which I thought was rather a nice positive message.

Still, I don’t consider her or Jessica Simpson “business women”. They are famewhores who were born beautiful and who get paid for it. Come on, do you guys honestly thing they “run” any part of their respective empires? They have people with mba’s doing all that and all they do is smile and look pretty for the cameras. Plus, if they are brilliant as some of you think than shame the fuck on them for promoting the image women are nothing but walking inflatable dolls whose only value is as masterbation tools. Either way no respect for any of them on my end.

  43. Hakura says:

@Garvels (#37)- I cosign with you completely. I typed out a response as I went along in the comments, but got to the bottom to see that you had eloquently beaten me to the punch.

I personally believe that Kris Kardashian has a very influential hold on the family’s marionette strings. I think when lightning struck with Kim gaining the public’s interest… she saw the potential of marketing the other girls as well. The Osbournes ‘family’ show had ended in 2005, & I’m sure she realized that formula could work well for them too. A whole clan of young women & teenage girls to fuss with her and eachother.

I think what bothers me to most… is that Kim is becoming a role model for some girls. (More ‘impressionable’ younger crowds.) She *became* famous for a sex tape, & that became notorious because she allowed someone to do something disgusting & degrading to her. Now she’s a ‘celebrity’ who’s complimented on all the entertainment networks, photoshopped to an unrealistic ideal in magazines.

I can’t speak as to her personality. I’m not trying to make her sound ‘evil’ or any nonsense like that. I dislike both their behavior on these shows… as well as the fact that society is supporting it.

@Oi – I hadn’t even noticed that. It makes her look like she’s standing like a flamingo. I can’t really see if it’s physically possible for her leg to be bent like that, and the front calf completely block view of the other.

  44. Annabelle says:

Evelyn: are you blind? “She loves her body” riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight that’s why she went out and got all that plastic surgery, because she loves her body. Oh yeah and that’s why she goes around claiming she is a size 2 when she most certainly is not — because she loves her body! And that’s why she feels the need to put on so much makeup, false eyelashes, hair extensions — i agree that she DEFINITELY loves her body (please take note of my sarcasm). She is an idiot, in the same sentence she says she is insecure and that she loves her body. Well you can’t have it both ways. People that are happy with themselves don’t get cosmetic surgery.

  45. truthzbetta says:

Katie Couric is a hypocritical windbag. She went on a whole rant about the Paris Hilton phenomenon and how “she didn’t get it” and even normally uber boring star lovin’ Ann Curry piped up before reading the news to agree.

Now Couric promotes a similar ho?

Each ho made a no budget sex tape and reaped the benefits. But this dirty floozie is worse. She actually copied her pal Paris and seems to have leaked her own tape on purpose.

Couric must be dead in her own career. There is no excuse for giving a hooker an interview where you call her a sex symbol instead of a porn hustler and nude modeler for the right price. A “symbol” of sex doesn’t perform the actual act for you. Meanwhile, Couric has been nasty and downplayed accomplished women at times.

Journalism reaches new bottoms daily. A reality judge Piers Morgan has his own show on CNN where he calls HIMSELF a “headline maker?” Spitzer the disgraced governor known best for losing his job because he was hiring hookers while in office has a new show on CNN too? WTF is going on?

Now Couric who used to interview presidents and do stories about women making low salaries is calling this trashy ho a business woman? Was Anna Nicole Smith who peddled diet pills as she married old men a great business woman too? Her dating, reality show lifestyle and career were actually slightly less disgusting and she didn’t ever do actual porn so was Smith a great business woman? Feature interview material?

Pathetic, Couric. Many journalists actually attend Hollywood parties openly, they’re just PR people now. This is nothing but PR and we have MTV “news” for that.

I guess Couric is willing to sell her already strained integrity for a buck, but once lost you cannot get it back. Note to Couric: you won’t see Diane Sawyer interviewing Courtney next week and if she’s in bed with Hollywood at least she married a great director and doesn’t openly promote his movies.

Couric is below E news — waning credibility now over. Next time anyone is up for watching someone butt kissing Kardashians who the hell would go Couric when even Seacrest’s highlights are more believable?

  46. Gabriela says:

She looks soooo beautiful with soft makeup, I don’t know why she always goes for black smokey eye, painted eyebrows and red lipstick.

  47. Hakura says:

@LittleDeadGirl (#42)- You have to at least give Jessica credit for having had an actual ‘career’ in singing (which she became famous for) before doing a reality show. She may not be an ‘incredible’ singer, but was a decent ‘pop star’. No matter how many airhead things she says, I just can’t quite lower her to “Kardashian” territory.

I don’t credit her for the actual ‘design’ of her fashion empire she’s a figure-head meant only to market the brand. Agreeing to do the fashion thing was smart, but that’s all I can give her credit for, there.

Regardless, at least she hasn’t mentally scarred us with a ‘sex tape’. (Thank GOD…) Can you imagine? Part of me wants to think Papa Joe would have a conniption, but another part whispers the hideous suggestion that he’d probably be the one who pushed her to do it, & even showed up on set to ‘direct’. *shudder*

@truthzbetta – ITA. Couric has deeply disappointed me on this… I can’t believe how far she climbed up Kim’s (well traveled) ass.

  48. Isabel says:

Crap, I really hate that I like her. Everything about how she achieves fame dictates otherwise, but still…aside from the tape, we never see her engage in gross behavior. She’s never shitfaced, rambling on and stumbling about. She’s not a druggie. She doesn’t have massive amounts of debt or engage in public catfights. She’s just a pretty girl with a fun lifestyle and lots of money…and she actually handles herself well.

I feel like I am not myself!!!!!!!!! HELP ME!

  49. LittleDeadGirl says:

@Hakura: Well, I don’t know, I mean there are alot of “singers” out there nowadays who can’t sing and are only on stage because of auto-tune but alright I’ll give you that I hold Jessica Simpson above Kim K. in the whole scheme of things. Also, I’m SO with you on the sex tape and the fact I think Papa Joe would direct it … I know that’s wrong and gross but that family has an unholy relationship of closeness …
