Are Queen Latifah & her girlfriend trying to have a baby?

As we know, Queen Latifah has a girlfriend. She and Jeanette Jenkins have been together for years, and they keep their stuff pretty private. Last summer, the Queen and Jeanette did go together to Alicia Keys’ wedding, and photographers got some cute photos of the couple frolicking on a yacht. Queen never confirmed or denied anything – so that’s probably the only subdued confirmation we’re going to get about Latifah’s sexuality, which is fine. She hasn’t constructed some dumb sham romance with a dude, she’s just living her private life quietly and honestly. Anyway, The National Enquirer has a nice story about Latifah and Jeanette – apparently, they’ve decided that they want a baby together. No one is knocked up yet, but I hope it happens for them:

Queen Latifah is having a baby! After mulling over motherhood for a couple of years, the 40-year-old star and her longtime girlfriend and personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins have finally decided to raise a little one, say friends.

“Queen and Jeanette are incredibly happy with each other, and they want to start a family,” a close pal told the Enquirer. “A baby is their No. I priority and they’re considering all their options.”

Queen Latifah hasn’t ruled out getting pregnant, but since she does have some major work commitments coming up, they’re also considering having Jeanette carry the child, said the source.

“Surrogacy and adoption are two other possibilities. Neither one of them is hung up on where the baby comes from. They know they’re going to fall head over heels with their child however the baby comes to them. They both feel children are a blessing.”

Latifah comes from a close-knit family and has always wanted children, according to the source. “But it was only recently that Queen and Jeanette finally sat down and said to each other, ‘Yup, it’s time.’ As much as she loves kids, there was a time when Queen thought she’d never get to be called ‘Mommy’ – but that was a long time ago – before she blossomed into a superstar. And now with Jeanette at her side, Queen’s never been happier. The only thing left to complete their lives is a child of their own.”

I would like to see Latifah as a mom. You know she would be kick-ass. I wonder how old Jeanette is…? It was my understanding that Jeanette was several years younger than Latifah. I’m just saying… Jeanette might have an easier time getting pregnant. Sigh… I want them to use someone really good as the donor. Right? Like, LL Cool J. Or Denzel. Or John Legend.

Oh cool! I love the idea of some handsome black actor fathering the babe.

  2. mln76 says:

Good for her I hope this is true. I have to say if she has a kid it would be time for her to come out and acknowledge her family.

  3. Westcoaster says:

It is nice to hear of a happy couple. All the best to them

  5. Brianna says:

Love her! She and her girlfriend would be so sweet as mothers.

  6. Zelda says:

Wow–she looks gorgeous in that last pic.

And I hope THEY don’t use David Crosby sperm.

  7. Kelbear says:

That would be awesome if they had LL Cool J as the donor.

  8. Samigirl says:

I think Latifah would be a kick ass mom 🙂

  9. Quest says:

    🙂

  10. Vee says:

I’d love to see them adopt a blond haired, blue eyed Caucasian baby if only to mess with the radicals who would squirm at the idea. If Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie can have their gorgeous children of color, let’s have it go the other way. Two successful black women, who will love and cherish their child, but please let that child be white.

  11. Brittney says:

mln… I don’t think it’d be “time” for her to come out any more than it’s time for straight actors to confirm their sexuality. It’s not our business. Like Kaiser said, she hasn’t constructed a false image for herself and isn’t trying to fool anyone. If they have a child together, it’ll be pretty damn obvious she’s gay.

  12. Darlene says:

    I love her!!!

  13. happygirl says:

Aw, Kaiser, thanks for the happy story today! I hope they have a baby. They seem really happy. I wish them the best! Ohhhh…LL…ok, or Denzel…that would be superb. =) Good picks, Kaiser!

  14. luls says:

OMG I HAD NO IDEA SHE WAS GAY! LET ALONE HAD A GF! im seriously in total shock!! :O

….. that makes me think of a similar celebrity; missy elliot. now im wondering if she cud be gay too? hmmmm

  15. fabgrrl says:

Aw, they would be great moms.

  16. ycnan says:

Are you sure she never denied she was gay? I seem to recall she did at some point but can’t really remember when. A few years before these pics were taken, in some mag.

    I could be wrong.

  17. Moreaces says:

I think they would make great moms, they have been together for years, they seem like they are pretty much put. A family is a beautiful thing. I wish them well in whatever they choose.

  18. Tia says:

They totally should. My college professor just shared a study about 2 moms raising a baby, lesbian moms have the best adjusted and behaved kids than any other type of family.. so cool… They will be a beautiful family

  19. Weeble says:

Why does the baby have to be fathered by someone famous, black or both?

Anyway, I read a while ago she actually wanted to experience pregnancy (believe it was in Glamour or Cosmo a few years ago), but that she was also open to adoption. Either way, I think she would be a very cool, well-grounded mom!

I wish her and Jeanette the best.

And @luls — Come on, now, LOL. Missy Elliot has had those rumors around her forever, and I kinda believe them. It’s pretty much accepted among lots of circles that she’s gay. I don’t think she’s tried to hide it either. She’s on the list with MC Lyte and Queen Latifah.

  20. luls says:

    @weeble,

i really didnt know about those rumors regarding missy OR queen latifah, despite being a closeted celeb gossip addict myself!!

missy’s lyrics and and music videos have always seemed to send the msg that shes ‘straight’. then again i never got ‘gay vibes’ from the queen either! even though now that i think about it, it DOES make sense that both are/could be!

  21. LolaBella says:

All Hail The Queen. Love her so much I sat through Just Wright for her and to ogle (I mean be impressed talent-wise by of course 😉 ) Common.

Good for them if they are.

  22. dread pirate cuervo says:

I would like to hop on the LL for baby daddy train! I think it’d be cool for Queen to carry the baby, too. Always seems like the non-famous partner does the birthing.

  23. RHONYC says:

that’s a sweet pic of her kissing her lady.

it would be great when it’s normal to see lesbian couples give pda on the street and it not be a ‘tabloid’ exclusive.

    jussayin. 🙂

  24. Sally G says:

    I love her!

  25. Anon73 says:

@Kaiser – definitely props to Queen Latifah on this :

“…she hasn’t constructed some dumb sham romance with a dude, she’s just living her private life quietly and honestly.”

perhaps *certain* other celebrities should take note… as in Cruise, Travolta, Gyllenhall, and “Mr Ladies Man” Clooney. 😉

  26. ii says:

This is such an exciting story, I really hope that it’s true!
Queen Latifah’s been working so hard for so long in the public eye
I say that it’s time for her to have what she desires no matter what the public thinks about it.
Her private life is not anyone else’s business, the paparazzi invade the private lives of celebrities and it’s simply unjust.
I’m thankful to know that she continues to be the strong black woman that I admired her to be when I was a teenager and her album, Black Rain came out. I wish she could have the privacy that she deserves. I wish her the happiness and fulfillment that we all deserve.
Any man (or sperm for that matter) would be lucky to have a part in bringing Queen Latifah a kid.

  27. anon says:
