Kate Moss says she was never anorexic

I love delusional celebrities. They make me feel so much better about myself. I may kid myself into believing that I’m thirty pounds lighter and two inches shorter, but at least I’m not chatting it up to Us Weekly. Poor Kate Moss still seems to be pretty delusional – but of course she is talking to magazines about it. Kate says she was never anorexic, even though she admit she hardly ever ate anything. She’s just got a really long list about how that’s everyone’s fault but her own. Apparently no one fed her. Though last time I checked, past the age of about seven you’re pretty much able to feed yourself if you want to.

“I was never anorexic, so I was never that skinny,” she tells September’s Interview. “I was never bony-bony. But I remember thinking, ‘I don’t want to be this skinny.'” She says when she was “doing shows and flying economy … nobody ever fed me. Or I’d be staying in hotels so cheap that by the time I’d get in, there wasn’t any room service… I didn’t eat for a long time. Not on purpose,” she admits. “You’d be on shoots with bad food or get on a plane, and the food would be so disgusting you couldn’t eat it.

“You go to a show, and there’s no food at all, so if you’re doing shows back to back, you can forget eating,” Moss adds. “I remember standing up in the bath one day, and there was a mirror in front of me, and I was so thin! I hated it. I never liked being that skinny.”

Over the years, Moss says she has come to accept her body. But it took her some time. When she was 15, photographer Corrine Day used to make her pose topless as training. “I’d cry,” Moss says. “After five years, you get used to it and you’re not self-conscious anymore.

[From Us Weekly]

Kate acknowledging that her body didn’t look good doesn’t mean she didn’t have anorexia. If anything it makes it even more suspect. Most anorexics don’t think they look good. Few of them walk around in skin-tight outfits parading their thinness. They tend to hide behind bulky clothing because they still think they look bad.

That last comment is particularly upsetting. I’m not sure if being forced to pose topless while crying is normal for 15-year-old models, but it sounds incredibly creepy. Kate seems to still have some body issues – she talked a lot about breast implants, saying that they were gross – but then goes on to say she’d consider getting them if her own boobs were ever too saggy.

I’m not sure how this interview is supposed to make her come off as more self-aware. If anything it makes me think she’s still got a lot of issues.

Here are a few of Kate’s Calvin Klein ads from back in the day. The ones that best show just how skinny she was show some nipple and are NSFW, but this gives you a good idea.

But she wasn’t ever anorexic. She was skinny. First time I’ve ever heard of her being described as anorexic. The heroin chic thing played on that a bit with a lot of her early shoots but she’s just naturally lean.

  2. Jess Doherty says:

love her.. and also love pete. they belong together. she is beautiful

  3. Codzilla says:

She forgot to mention the cocaine and cigarettes.

  4. meemoo says:

Um, this is a woman who we all know does BLOW. Just because someone is thin/skinny doesn’t necessarily mean it’s because they are anorexic or have any other eating disorder for that matter.

She was probably just doing blow most of the time.

  5. Truth says:

She wasn’t anorexic, she was a complete DRUG ADDICT. She was snorting loads of cocaine every single day so she wouldn’t be hungry.

SHE WAS A CRACK HEAD PEOPLE, GET IT RIGHT!

  6. Shane says:

Not a stitch of muscle tone.

  7. ff says:

lols, what she thinks is ‘anorexic’ is completely different to what the public thinks is anorexic. Just like what the fashion elite calls ‘fat’ is what we want to force feed.

She might want to shut up and try to look pretty for the few years of it she’s got left. Why break with tradition by actually trying to voice an ‘opinion’ all of a sudden? Especially when all it does is magnify her apparent vapidity.

Oh wait… what’s she trying to sell us this time? New perfume? Clothes line? Lipstick?

  8. paris herpes says:

If you do blow constantly and smoke, you’d probably find most food disgusting. Kate sounds really unhealthy anyway, and that whole posing nude @ 15 is really disturbing and probably would be considered child porn in this day and age.

  9. breederina says:

Thank you Codzilla. I would add if there was a newbie print model during the 70’s 80’s or 90’s who didn’t live on a diet of cigarettes, black coffee and blow then
    I’d like to meet her.

  10. czarina says:

I’ve read articles and seen a documentary on what kind of life fashion models live, and the truth is, they are constantly pressured by managers, designers, photographers etc. to be THIN, THIN, THIN.
That’s why so many of them use drugs, to suppress appetite and jump up their metabolism. I can understand Kate saying that nobody fed her…it was likely part of the life she led that she was encouraged NOT to eat.
Look, this scary-skinny girl was making a fortune for a lot of people. So what if she was starving and unhealthy? So waht if she was on drugs (as long as it didn’t impact her ability to work)?
The fashion model industry is ugly–the worst part of this article is that Kate seems unaware that what she went through was terrible.
She should be a poster child for not allowing young girls to be models.

  11. Snowblood says:

She’s just naturally very slender, that’s how she was built, just like Queen Latifah was naturally built to be big. And I’ve always liked Kate Moss, from the beginning I’ve liked her. I really don’t believe she’s ever been anorexic, if she had been she would be dead/hospitalized for it a long, long time ago.

Anorexia is a serious mental disorder which results in horrendous physical looks followed by death from complications stemming from absolute malnutrition and starvation, have you guys seen the photos of actual anorexia sufferers? VERY, very scary shit. They look terrifying. Kate’s just one of the born slender types, like Keira Knigtley.

  12. hello says:

I don’t think she was anorexic. It was cocaine. Remember Mary-Kate going to rehab for anorexia that was really a cocaine addiction?

I feel bad for her with the topless photos that made her cry. That’s just sad for a kid to go through.

  13. Thumbelina says:

Drugs more likely, since many models turn to drugs. What disturbs me even more is the posing topless at 15 part. Sickening the way this industry exploits young women. And for what? For clothes that go out of style in three months and magazines that get tossed in the trash.

  14. Kate Moss, nobody cares about you anymore. You ain’t the only skinny model out there, stupid.

  15. Snowblood says:

Kate, don’t listen to Cindy. Many people and companies care about you, including me. I STILL think you’re awesome, Miss Moss! 8)

  16. Jenn says:

She is NOT anorexic. She is just thin. At least she isn’t one of those FAT people out there strutting around in a bikini, thinking that they look good. Meanwhile getting their kids fat as well. I am 5’3″ and weigh 103lbs. I am skinny, but not anorexic. Just because you are skinny means you are anorexic, or bulimic? I don’t think so.

  17. Vivienne says:

Seen a picture of her recently? Looking like an under-slept divorcee who keeps a pint of vodka in her glove compartment.

    Her poor daughter.

  18. morgs says:

Thank the Lord for photoshop! Have you seen recent pictures of this woman? She looks beat. Her face is a walking advert for anti-smoking/drugs campaign. That being said, when they photoshop the hell out of her, she looks quite divine. I wonder what her monthly allowance for face product is?

  19. enchantress says:

Well, I guess if you are going to suceed in making a career as a model, you’d better become immune at an early age to the notion of all facets of your appearance being looked at with a critical eye. But someone whose opinion you value driving you to tears with remarks about your breasts when you’re just 15 is depressingly cruel.

  20. Orangejulius says:

Anorexia, of all mental illnesses has a pretty high death rate. I had it for one year a long, long time ago and she doesn’t look anything like as bad. She looks skinny, but not bag-of-bones, it hurts-to-sit-on-my-butt kind of skinny.

    She can look so divine.

  21. Trashaddict says:

Where do people getting off giving this woman advertising contracts? She’s a shitty role model, I’m tired of all these cokehead alcholic pretty young things in the modelling industry and films who can’t get their shit together (and are poorly behaved to boot). The business has pressures, and claiming ignorance of it all is as dated as Ozzie and Harriet (yeah, some of you don’t even know what that is).
I don’t buy based on celeb endorsements but you can bet if I do it will be from better people than this.

  22. Anne says:

She was never anorexic, she is a tiny person – she may have been a bit under weight at some point but not anorexic. It’s insulting to those suffering anorexia to say she was suffering as well, when she clearly wasn’t. I buy her excuse for why she was so skinny (add some blow in and it would be all good).

  23. Cari says:

She almost looks like an Auschwitz victim in that header photo. But I’m not a fan of hers anyway, so yeah, her and Pete do belong together.

  24. daisy424 says:

Where were her parents during that topless photo shoot?

    Agree with Trashaddict

  25. vdantev says:

and Malcom X says he was never black.

  26. xxzeon says:

I Love Kate Moss!!! hey, I’m serious too. I actually have a “kate shrine” that my wife thinks is absurd…I keep.. KM as my screensaver, changing it only to for a diferent KM picture…OK, call me nuts…BUT…my point here is….who really cares what Kate did or did’t eat? I think she looks great throughout evey year of her career…Kepp it up KM
ps: Contrary to most(opinions), I find KM’s aloofness, craziness, lifestyle etc…to be equaly as sexy as her personna!

  27. lanette says:

    i like kate moss’ look.

so she has issues, who doesn’t?

  28. Oh, if it weren’t for photoshop, most of these over-30 models would be out of work by now.

  29. Orangejulius says:

Oh, Cindy. No, no, no. Not in these days of botox, restylene, etc, etc. We can keep it going MUCH longer now. We also know now to use sunscreen. Over 30? Maybe over 50 and even then it’s their job to look beautiful so they work at it!

  30. xxzeon says:

Role Model??? Why are runway models always given the burden of being one? Is it that every little tween & adolescent female aspires to be one…a fashion model? I doubt it. If so, then why is it always the current models get the “role model” handle?

I’m sick of hearing that. Perhaps the parents of girls who aspire to be a model should work on increasing their child’s sef-immage or self esteem so that they may understand any successful profession begins with liking yourself FIRST.

I personally know parents with young female children who honestly believe their child will be the next Kate Moss, Agyness D…or whoever…yet looking at them (children) it will never happen. Have you ever encountered a parent telling you their daughter is going to finishing school when the child is 12 yrs old…5’2″, 130lbs with a disaterous overbite?I have. The poor child, in an attempt to live up to her parents expectations, starves and hates herself! The strenght of a human is knowing one’s own limitations! Children look to their parents to teach them this when they are young…Not to lie and fill them with impossibilities!

For those suggesting models are role “models”…..Use your head! Teach your children truthfully/realistically. If you’re looking for a role model for your child…allow me to start with YOU!!! and then maybe mother teresa!

  31. Carena says:

She says she was never anorexic…..just disgusted by all the food available to her. Riiiiiiight. You mean to tell me there were years that would go by where she didn’t have access to appetizing food? Sounds more like she conditioned herself to be disgusted by all food.

  32. geronimo says:

God. She’s a model, she doesn’t need to be a role model for anyone, I, for one, love her look and, considering the amount of work she gets, I’m not alone. And her lifestyle is her business. Sometimes the sanctimonious and self-righteous comments on here really bug me.

  33. Snowblood says:

Geronimo, re. sanctimonious comments, you’re not alone, bella, I’m right there with you. Ditto everything you said.

  34. geronimo says:

Hey snowblood, the BADettes, the AWDettes and now the MOSSettes!! Damn, we’re going to be busy! 😛

  35. Elizabeth says:

Like her or not, she’s good at her craft.

  36. Orangejulius: sorry, but its a well known fact that models are photoshopped and airbrushed. The public knows this. We aren’t stupid. And botox actually makes people look worse. No wonder celebrities have people laughing at their chipmunk cheeks, swollen lips and frozen foreheads.

  37. Nan says:

Ya know, I could never understand how she broke into modeling. I always thought it was a joke by the first designer who hired her. Was it Calvin Klein? That designer may have been trying to start a trend w/a shorter model. She is between 5’7″-9″. I never thought she was anything special in her body or her face. Sure, if she was short & had a face like Paulina Poriskova, understandable…but there’s nothing special about her facial bone structure. Just my opinion. I categerize her as one of those people who got to where they are as a big FLUKE.

  38. Yeah right, this girl was never
anorexic ?? Hell, this little girl has been a coke snorting , walking corpse for many years now.

If she is not anorexic then I dont know wtf this word means.

Wired up skeleton hoe !! 😛

  39. lauramcp says:

Skinny can be a factor while using drugs. Anorexia is a whole different story.

Kate may have been skinny due to drug use and cigarettes. Maybe not.

I have to say that I’m so tired of everyone assuming that someone who is thin is either anorexic or a drug user.

I’m 5’4″, weight 105 and I can eat 5 meals a day full of mashed potatoes and gravy topped off with hot fudge sundae’s, yet I stay thin (because I’m active).

Yet I too have been accused of being anorexic.

If we want to really address *the* problem, let’s talk about the huge percentage of Americans who are obese. Everyone seems to feel sorry for them while they bash those who are thin. Sour grapes!

  40. Jenn says:

You said it exactly lauramcp. Just because people are skinny, doesn’t mean that they are anorexic. Just like over %80 of the fat people in the world are just fat, not because of some “disorder” but because they can’t get off of their fat asses and exercise and eat just ONE PIECE of cake and not the whole damn thing.

  41. cali angel says:

My best friend was a run-way model in Paris and Greece by the time she was 16. She said that there was so much pressure to be thin that they dare not eat anything and that of course, the drugs were there too and almost encouraged. As some people here are saying, it’s just the nature of the business. My friend knew this and decided to get out of modeling. I think that if someone really has an issue with their eating than they should not be sacrificing their bodies unnecessarily. However, if someone chooses to eat less in order to meet the demands of their career, how is that any different than the entire working field whom sacrifice a lot of things all the time for their careers, (i.e. sleep, time with children, emotional peace of mind, etc. )?

  42. Courtney says:

Well regardless of her “delusions”, Kate remains one of the most gorgeous women – ever! We forget how relatively young she is and how long she has been around! I sure wish I had her face and body.

  43. atl says:

Kate looks fine to me. I think Americans’ perceptions of what is small and what is not are weird to be honest. I am 6′ (180 cm) tall and in the low 180s for weight (around 82 kg). I could honestly stand to lose an additional 30 – 40 lbs. I look small because I have a small frame as most of my weight goes on my lower body and I get a lot of hot air from people thinking I am anorexic. Sure I look anorexic…when the average person around here weighs maybe 70 lbs more than I do now (I live in megafat “Red State” country). I am a smaller framed individual and my frame isn’t designed to carry 180 lbs period. Americans really do carry excessive weight (is 200 lbs normal for someone 6′?? Only if you’re a bodybuilder) and I think not only because Americans eat tons of fatty junk food, but I think many Americans carry excessive mass because of an ingrained macho attitude. They probably perceive weight loss on their end as a loss of masculinity (irregardless of their gender). Also, given the diet of the average American, eating less usually results in a craving for food (trans fats will do that to the human body) and the typical US diet is very inefficient. Combine that with a culture that encourages aggression and it’s easy to see why smaller people get a bad rap.

those that dont win challenge the dision of the winners. if being overweight were a fashion, well.

  45. anna67 says:

OK,I’m going on the record to say I NEVER understood why this hachet-faced,shortish,bony-arsed woman is considered beautiful and model-worthy. And before you trolls scream,”You’re jealous!” there are LOTS of women whose beauty I openly admire without a hint of reservation. Many ladies in entertainment or modelling are beautiful or at least have a comely asset that makes them telegenic: Elle McPherson has a shapely figure and Linda Evangelista has an arresting face. And the women in old movies(Liz Taylor,Vivien Leigh,Greta Garbo,Marilyn,Ava Gardener etc etc) were often so beautiful as to not seem real.Even the more unconventional looking ladies(Cate Blanchett,Toni Collette) have something that makes them watchable. But Kate Butterface Moss?
    Bleech!

  46. Karla says:

Judging from her comments, you really can’t call her anorexic. An important part of anorexia is you do it because you WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT. If you just don’t feed yourself, you may be stupid, but you’re not anorexic.

Also, it is really common during Fashion Week for models to actually not have time to eat. Whether or not they want to lose weight.

  47. Mary says:

    Dsm criteria for anorexia

    Fear of gaining weight
    Refusal to maintain normal weight
    At least y missed periods
    Distortion of body image

They will restrict eating, bingef, purge or both. Usually associated with other mental disorders, family history

  48. Emo18 says:

Kate moss is my idol. I strive to be her size and her level of success
