Ed Westwick says he’s straight and isn’t with Gossip Girl co-star Chace

Good looking Gossip Girl co-stars Chace Crawford, 23, and Ed Westwick, 21, live together and have long been rumored to be lovers. They are said to have been seen kissing on set and to stick together and ignore the females that flock to them. Ed’s character, Chuck Bass, is supposed to be a playboy, and if he’s gay and open about it he probably knows that now is not a good time in his career to come out. He says he’s not gay though, and uses the example of enjoying talking to women late into the night.

About his relationship with co-star and roommate Chace Crawford: “People think Chace is gay, and thought I was gay, that we were humping. It’s not true, but hilarious. People project their fantasies onto people. I’ve never been someone who makes it my objective to go out and pick up chicks. But I’ve met some fantastic ladies here. You know those amazing conversations where you find yourself in a café talking until 2 a.m. and never see them again.”

He says he refuses to let all the fan adulation go to his head. “There are perks to this job. We [the Gossip Girl cast] were all thrown into this situation with a lot of attention on us, and you get a lot of free clothes and s–t but that’s no reason not to stay grounded. What am I really doing, baby? Saving the world? Nah, I’m on television.”

Ed’s portrayal as Chuck Bass is just as notable as his own bad behavior and sense of style. “Chuck is an iconic character and the clothes are iconic. I think I rock the look well. My style has always been good. Top notch, baby. I like the glamorous indie rock look, like the Libertines. But you know, without the heroin needle sticking out of my arm.”

Maybe Westwick is just a guy who hangs out with his buddies and doesn’t pay attention to women who fawn all over him, preferring the hard to get type. You kind of get the vibe that he’s old fashioned from the way he talks. Either way, it’s his business and you can understand why he wouldn’t want to be open about if he’s gay. There are scores of teen girls who would be crying into their diet cokes.

Even if he is gay, or isn’t, it still breaks my heart that people can’t be open about it, unless they want a backlash in their career.

  2. Chamalla says:

I would be totally willing to make a man out of Ed Westwick. Like two or three times.

    *fans self*

It’s so tired and old that someone’s sexuality, whatever it is, is still an issue as far as career longevity is concerned.

Don’t know which is more pitiful, that people still see someone’s sexuality as rumour-worthy, that those at the centre of the rumours feel obliged to discuss/deny it, that being gay still has negative career implications, or that it’s still something that someone, somewhere has nothing better to do than give a crap about.

  4. Jess Doherty says:

uh huh…. straight guys totally talk like that… sure…

  5. Ron says:

It’s far more of an issue for men than women. Somehow, perhaps due to porn, lesbians are far more accepted. If you are a gay man, you can’t possibly be masculine which I find so amusing. On the flip side, if you don’t want to publicly come out, I don’t think you should be forced to. It seems like once you do come out you are suddenly the media poster child for the happy gay man/woman and it can overshadow your work.

  6. JoGirl says:

I really hope he is gay, because based on looks alone he’s got the potential to be the most glorious gay icon since Brian Kinney (Queer as Folk).

  7. I choose me says:

I like him and get a kick out of his character on GG. I don’t get a gay vibe from him. There were rumours about JC Chasez and Chace Crawford before he was roommates with Ed, now these two are supposed to be a couple? 🙄

Why is that if two single guys hang out together and seem to enjoy each other’s company the gay rumours start.

Anyway, gay, not gay. What does that have to do with the price of rice in China?

  8. czarina says:

Gay or straight, perhaps someone should help him focus on his vocabulary: “humping”? “chicks”?
Yeesh. Get a Thesaurus, Oh Manly One.

  9. Rougelatete says:

Oh, yes….this is EXACTLY what straight men do. They talk to girls until 2am and then go home alone. But, Kris, I totally agree with you. “I’ve never been someone who makes it my objective to go out and pick up chicks. But I’ve met some fantastic ladies here. You know those amazing conversations where you find yourself in a café talking until 2 a.m. and never see them again.”

  10. Ben says:

Guaranteed, if there’s a guy who’ a successful actor, or musician or something, people try to say their gay, either due to the celebrity ‘media’ who just make-up a story and try to pass it as fact, or the gays who try to claim a person as a victory.

  11. GL says:

Uh, or because there actually are a high volume of bi and gay people in entertainment, Ben.

Btw, he hasn’t actually said he isn’t gay if you read it (not that people don’t lie), that statement is worded so it reads as if the rumors he and the costar are humping “aren’t true”.

Whatever, if he’s straight fine, bi fine, gay fine. But if he IS in a gay relationship you’ll be reading a lot more statements like this to cover that up if it’s true. Hollywood likes its men cowardly. 🙂
