Michelle Williams reportedly getting serious with director Spike Jonze

Actress Michelle Williams is reportedly moving beyond the grief of losing her ex-fiance, the late Heath Ledger, and is cautiously becoming more serious with indie film director Spike Jonze. Sources say that Jonze makes Michelle very happy, and it looks like the new couple have been spending a lot of time together. OK! Magazine says that Jonze was spotted shopping for groceries at a market near Williams’ Brooklyn apartment.

Although Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger had broken up before his sudden death last January, the shock of losing her former partner and father to her daughter, Matilda Rose, has had her looking somber for months.

But lately, the smile has crept slowly back onto Michelle’s face, perhaps because she’s quietly dating director Spike Jonze.

“Michelle is starting to have her old glow back,” a source tells OK!. “It’s the Michelle we were used to seeing when she and Heath just had Matilda and they were on cloud nine. Her eyes light up again. She’s finally coming out of the shock of losing Heath.”

Spike and Michelle met back in 2006 when she was up for a role in his movie Where the Wild Things Are (she got the part but later withdrew) and then again more recently on the set of Synecdoche, New York in 2007.

And lately, the two have been spending a lot more time together: Spike was recently spotted at a convenience store in Brooklyn, buying a toothbrush, toothpaste, eggs and pancake mix before heading back to Michelle’s home.

“Spike said he was visiting his girlfriend and just needed to get a few odds and ends,” a local tells OK!. “They were going to try and make breakfast for her daughter.”

I really like Michelle Williams. She’s a decent actress and appears to be a very devoted mom. She hasn’t really been linked to anyone since her breakup with Heath, and if she’s introduced Spike to her daughter, I would imagine that this relationship has some legs. She’s the anti-Kate Hudson: I could never imagine her letting her boyfriend du jour hang out with Matilda. I hope she finds some peace and happiness with Jonze.

  1. I felt so sorry for her when the paps shouted at her in Cannes, the first time she walked a red carpet after Heaths death.
I hope things work out for her and Matilda.

  3. I really adore her. This is what “class” looks like - for anyone on CB who thought “class” looked like Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson.

  5. Well she was really in love with Heath and all the same things were said. It is really only nine months since Heath’s accident. Head em up—move em out! NEXT.

  6. @Pete:
They broke up months before Heaths death.

And moving on after someone is dead is actually not such a bad thing.
There are no rules as to how long one has to grieve for an ex-boyfriend.

  7. VI Pete- Unless you have been through that type of loss, you really shouldn’t throw stones. I have many friends who lost their wives and husbands suddenly to cancer. Almost all found love again very quickly because they knew what it felt like, they could pick out the real thing.

No one should judge her for trying to move forward. She has always seemed very genuine. I wish her happiness. It’s so nice to see a smile on her face.

    Besides…they made pancakes not commitments.

  9. She is great and im happy she is smiling again. And matilda looks adorable and happy in other pics ,you can tell she is a cared and loved child ,and that is the most important fact to see this little person playing and laughing after such a tragedy and if she is like that it’s because she has a great mom.hope things keep working out for them :)

  10. Pete…Michelle had to leave him a LONG time before he died because he was a drug addict. DRUG ADDICT. She had to leave her marital home and take her little girl away…and be alone. She was devastated.

Heath basically left HER. He chose his vices over his family, and it was heartbreaking.

Accusing this woman of being callous for having a new relationship is just ridiculous. Do you want her to wear black and be miserable for the rest of her life?

    Seriously. /shakes head.

  13. That was pretty fast right after Heath’s death. I know they were separated but geez. Michelle must be lonely or something…which is ok I guess.
