Emma Watson is trying to grow out her hair to get more work: good idea?

wenn3208474

Over the past five days or so, there has been 20 million new photos of Emma Watson. I guess she’s on her own special holiday from university (??) because she’s been in London, partying her ass off, going to events and being a fashion girl. These photos are form various events – the BAFTAs (in frilly Valentino), the Elle Style Awards (wearing the Hakaan cut-out dress), and Emma’s club-hopping with… Harvey Weinstein. Yeah. Let me say this at the start: I’m not one of those people who finds Emma to be a stunningly beautiful young woman. She’s just not, to me. She has moments where I think she’s pretty and cute, and I do think she’s got a good head on her shoulders. But when I hear people talking about how beautiful she is, I just think “Her?” Her style is hit-or-miss too, which is something that I understand. She’s young, I doubt she employs a stylist full-time, and she’s still figuring out what looks good on her.

Speaking of what looks good on her, while at the Elle Style Awards, Emma told the press that she was growing out her short hair, because she thinks the Mia Farrow look won’t help her career:

When Emma Watson chopped her long locks last summer, it was to mark the end of her Harry Potter days — contractually, she couldn’t cut her hair while playing Hermione. But since debuting her pixie cut in August, the actress has been trying to grow the ‘do a bit — this time, to get acting roles.

At the ELLE Style Awards in London last night, where Watson received the Style Icon award from Vivienne Westwood, the starlet revealed to reporters that she’s liking her extra length.

“I am trying to grow it but it’s slow, it’s taking a while obviously,” she told ELLE. “If I want to keep acting then it’s more flexible for me to have it longer for different roles, it’s quite a specific cut. I’m kind of looking forward to getting to a cute little bob stage.”

[From People]

I applaud her for not going with ratty extensions or big wigs. I like that she’s trying to get longer hair the old-fashioned way. And I too am over her little pixie cut. I think it’s the extreme shortness of the little bangs trauma that really gets me. When she slicks her hair back, it looks cute. When her little bangs are pushed forward, I want to hold her down and shave her head.

Remember I said she was partying with Harvey Weinstein? Yeah… I hope these photos don’t make you throw up.

I think she’s adorable, not stunningly beuatiful but very pretty and natural. I hope she continues to be and doesn’t go the botoxed plastic surrgery route. Doubt she will because like you said, she has a good head on her shoulders.

  2. Eleonor says:

    I love her coat!

  3. MarenGermany says:

I like her hair. just that way. emphazises her pretty face.
but I get that she probably gets more acting rolls if she has a more flexible do.

  4. Quest says:

    Luving the coat

  5. GeekChic says:

I agree brin; she’s just adorable and very pretty.

Kaiser, you make me laugh with the “bangs trauma.” She looks perfectly cute with the bangs swept forward (in fact, she reminds me somewhat of Twiggy). I am biased though in that I always tend to like long hair on everyone, so I think she will look even more adorable when it grows out somewhat.

  6. the original bellaluna says:

When I was 7, I decided I wanted my hair (which I could sit on) cut short. I didn’t WANT a pixie cut, but that’s what I ended up with; I’ve detested pixie cuts ever since. The only one who truly pulls it off is Tinkerbell.

I think (like me) she made an impulsive decision, giddy with the freedom of knowing she could now do what she wished with her hair. Let the grow-out commence!

I like her: she’s young, she’s figuring it out.

    Completely unrelated: It’s raining! Finally!

  7. Micki says:

She is natural, seems to be happy in her own skin and this makes her both confident and sexy.

  8. devilgirl says:

Why do some of these actresses have such ill fitting shoes all of the time?

That cut out dress looks like a very cheap skaters frock. NOT.CUTE.

  9. Violet says:

i think she is really pretty and her hair suits her but i agree that she’d probably be better off with longer hair. i don’t really think she’s a great actress but then the harry potter scripts are atrocious and i haven’t seen her in anything else.

  10. mln76 says:

She just looks very, very young to me …freshed faced and adorable. I think it will take 10 years or so to figure out if she’s beautiful or not. But I am not liking Harvey Weinstein hovering around her.

  11. renai(jrt) says:

I dont know……the Potter look was long so why not go with short for a change..

  12. Arianna says:

yes that coat oh my godd!!
i think she is stunning, i love her, she could have a rattail and i would still dig it
but i do agree more flexible hair may work with roles— but what about wigs and hair extensions?? people with long hair are put in them all the time (cough jessica alba in fantastic four ugh)

  13. Abby says:

love her. I think she looks fine either way. Love her Pigalle Louboutins!

  14. sisi says:

I’m sooooo jealous of her eyebrows, I want them.

  15. dorothy says:

Hope she stays the way she is. I love the fact that she comfortable with who she is. Not afraid to cut her hair short, staying in school… I applaud her individuality.

  16. Delta Juliet says:

Beautiful…no, not really. But she is adorable and seems like a smart young girl. I think the haircut is cute 😉

And why is she with that dirty old man (nicest thing I could say) Weinstein?

  17. kiko says:

she is not beautiful.she has a decent bone structure and millions in the bank..the only thing that makes her stand out is that in her early 20’s she has no scandals linked to her name which is something really rare for hollywood standards.good for her….

ps. i don’t know who Harvey Weinstein is but clubbing with him is just disgusting 😳

  18. irishserra says:

I hope “clubbing” is all she’s doing with Harvey Weinstein…

  19. Moreaces says:

I think she looks just divine, I like her hair short, but then again that’s how I where mine, very short and close to my head, and I think I look adorable. However, its her hair, and its her career, so best of luck whatever she does with it.

  20. e says:

If you really want to throw up go over to Lainey and look at the photos of Harvey holding her arms back from behind. It is SO creepy.

  21. Eve says:

Remember I said she was partying with Harvey Weinstein? Yeah… I hope these photos don’t make you throw up.

    Too late.

    P.S.: @ # 20 — I saw the pictures on Laineygossip too. *BARFS*

  22. Chicoulina says:

Nothing special. An ordinary girl who got lucky. She looks 100 times better with long hair.

  23. flourpot says:

I like her hair. I’m not sure why she feels she needs to grow it out. Most roles she may be offered would offer her a wig, as well.

  24. Circe says:

Ehn. Never did care for that Mia Farrow pixie cut. Save for Farrow I never really saw anyone who got away with it.

I like her hair slicked to the side in the first few pictures, though.

  25. REALIST says:

I love her hair! Now you can see how pretty her face is!
RIDICULOUS! Why should she have longer hair to get work? Whatever happened to wigs or hair extensions?
Saucy dress, btw. It looks great on her, and the short hair adds to the sauciness! I think she should lead the way to a new trend of mod girls with short hair!
Someone needs to remind her of Mia Farrow and Audrey Hepburn.

  26. JustBored says:

I personally think she is adorable, especially with that hair cut. That first pic is really nice.

  27. WOM says:

Ditto to Moreaces’ comment (#19). I look freakin’ awesome in my pixie cut. I think most women look better w/ shorter hair, especially once they hit 35 (hint, hint Jennifer Aniston).

  28. Gwen says:

I just cannot see anything special in her. She’s so ordinary IMO.

  29. Isabel says:

This cutout dress thing is OUT OF CONTROL. EVERYONE STOP WITH THE DAMN CUTOUT DRESSES.

Side note – does anyone remember the brand of jumpsuits from the late 80s and early 90s that came with different kinds of bands that you could put around your stomach or head? And they had holes cut out of the armpits?

  30. chloe says:

I don’t think she’s a great beauty, but she’s cute, She reminds me of Michelle Williams, I really hopes she breaks out as a great actress, but hanging (which I hope that’s all she’s doing) out with Harvey Weinstein is not a smart thing if you want any respect. Anytime I see an actress on his arm holding an Award she won by being in one of his movies I think of what she probably had to do to get it, yuck!

  31. Mingy says:

So frickin adorable, I love her hair like that. I hope she doesnt grow it out.

  32. KLO says:

I think she IS beautiful. It’s that delicate kind of beauty. And I love her hair the way it is now. In her face or slicked back. It suits her smile, it makes her look magnificent.

  33. spooge says:

    The short hair looks awful.

  34. benny says:

She’s very pretty, I don’t think the length of her hair is that important. If she wants more acting roles what she needs to do is work on her acting, because it’s atrocious. None of the Harry Potter kids act very well, but she stands out as particularly bad.

I’m not “bashing” her – she’s very pretty, she’s going to Harvard or something so she’s very smart, and for all I know she could be the nicest person in the world. But she’s a bad actor. Sorry, but she is.

  35. Isa says:

Her legs in that top picture look awesome. Wow.

  36. LindaR says:

Eww.I think Harvey is semi-erect. Either that or he is wearing boxers. Still gross. Not going to have supper now. Actually may never eat again.

  37. Camille says:

    I completely agree with #1.
I think Emma is adorable and a lovely, pretty girl with a seemingly good head on her shoulders.
Growing out her hair a bit is a good idea, especially for her work.

The same hair style *all* the time can only trap you in specific roles, can’t it. 😉 😆

  38. Ann says:

Just in case, this is Harvey Weinstein’s wife.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgina_Chapman

I mean really, cheat on this with little Emma?

  39. MrsKrabapple says:

That white dress looks like a figure skating outfit. She wore another figure skating outfit not that long ago (black lace on top, short black feather skirt). I think she needs a new stylist.

But she has a pretty face and nice figure. She just needs someone to show her how to dress better.

  40. My Darling Pinkett says:

I agree that she’s not stunning or beautiful. She’s pretty, like a lot of actresses are. When people are famous, their looks are often exaggerated by the press and fans. But the truth is she’s pretty. I like Emma Watson. As far as I can tell she’s a very nice, intelligent girl, and I like her in the Harry Potter series.

Honestly, I was never a fan of the pixie cut on her. She looks somewhat boyish with it, although she doesn’t look awful by any means. I kind of figured that she would grow it out sooner rather than later because (a) it gets old, and (b) she’s right, it is a very specific cut and a lot of roles don’t call for it. I’m looking forward to seeing her with longer hair.

  41. Kloops says:

She looks pretty, youthful and natural. Considering most starlets are already jacking with their faces, wearing extensions and trashy clothes, and drinking and drugging to excess, EW is refreshing change. But I agree, neither beautiful nor fashion forward but I like her. Can she act yet? I’ve only seen her In the first Harry Potter film and it was painful.

Harvey Weinstein is gross. She should run far away.

  42. Alix says:

Why her hair length should play any part in getting acting roles, I have no idea. Wigs, hair extensions… the technology exists, people!

  43. april says:

i do like her hair longer. not really long, but i think it would look a little better grown out only a couple inches with some layers and a messy do. kind of like the pic of carey mulligan growing out her hair. that would look so cute.

if i were here i would just wear my hair however i wanted though, and concentrate on school and take off for a little bit. why is she in such a hurry?

  44. Stephanie says:

The short haircut is not doing her any favors. Props to her for growing out naturally.

  45. sasa says:

I’m always amazed at how opposite people’s reactions to short hair tend to be. It’s either love or hate.
I went pixie a couple of times in my life. It doesn’t suit me as well as it does Emma because I’m too tall. So if not femininely put together I really look like a guy from a distance and that bugs me a bit. That’s actually my only qualm with pixie- I love it with girly outfits, stronger makeup etc. it’s better then those boring face drowning tresses, but once you just go to the store without prettying up- yeah, not so hot.

  46. JQ says:

Growing her hair out for any role shouldn’t matter since if they wanted her to look a certain way, she could just wear a wig or add extensions to play the part. I think she’s just done with this ‘do and I can’t say I blame her. She was cute before she cut off her hair. I think short hair seldom looks attractive on women.

  47. Hakura says:

Honestly, I thought it was Justin Beiber in drag, with a slightly more masculine haircut, in the last few pictures. xD

I don’t care for it being THAT short. I think it could be limiting, but I’m not sure it would prevent her from getting a role. But they always say to dress the part you’re going for… Unless she has a closet full of wigs, it’s just too short to ‘style’ any particular way.

  48. Kayla says:

I don’t even know who’s in the picture with her when she’s got that amazing coat on. I want…

  49. thanks for sharing this, it is really useful

  50. Excellent post. I was checking constantly this blog and I am inspired! Very useful information specifically the last part 🙂 I deal with such info much. I used to be looking for this particular information for a very lengthy time. Thank you and best of luck.
