Is there going to be a Sex and The City film sequel?

Reports are divided as to whether a Sex and The City sequel, starring the same cast, is in the planning stages. Sarah Jessica Parker told US Weekly that she’d be open to it, but that she needed to talk it over with the screenwriter/director Michael Patrick King. She said it’s all about whether they can create a compelling story for the audience.

Fox411 reports that King and Parker confirmed that a Sex and The City sequel was in the works, though, spilling the news at last night’s party for the DVD release of the first successful installment:

Well, I did tell you a long time ago that Michael Patrick King thought there would be sequels to “Sex and the City: the Movie.”

Thursday night at the Public Library party for the DVD of the film, he and Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed it. He’s off to write the next installment. Both SJP and Kim Cattrall told me they’re excited to see what he comes up with.

At the same time, Candace Bushnell announced that she’s writing a “prequel” to the ladies’ lives, taking them maybe from teen through college years to the time they all met.

King told me, quipping, “I’m thinking of doing an animated version of them as babies.”

SJP added, “Let’s wring everything we can out of this thing!”

It didn’t hurt that she was dressed and styled like a modern Audrey Hepburn, and that she worked the pink carpet full of media outside the Library like a pro. There just is not a more gracious movie or TV star around.

It sounds like they’re definitely going to make this film, but they better hurry up and get cracking on it as time is wasting. It took a long time to put out the first one, but they won’t have that luxury if they want to capitalize on the film’s success.

Sarah Jessica Parker was trying to channel Audrey Hepburn at the DVD release party last night at the NY Public Library, but whether she succeeded is up to question. She’s a lovely woman, but it looked more like she was dressed as Hepburn for a Halloween party than a Hollywood one. All that was missing was the cigarette holder, and she tried to emulate that with a smoke-like print on the front of her dress. I can’t decide if her fuschia shoes are fashion-forward or clownish. The real issue may be with her overdone hair and makeup.

Parker’s co-star Kim Cattrall, 52, showed off her bra in a sequin top that was open halfway down the front. Her longterm boyfriend, 25 year-old chef Alan Wyse, wore a black velvet jacket that matched her dark purple one.

Cynthia Nixon was well dressed in a silver cap sleeve dress with contrasting ribbing. She usually seems to be spot-on in the outfits she chooses for events.

Kirstin Davis wasn’t at the party last night. She was said to have been in LA for work. I wonder why she didn’t fly out though, it seems she would have worked to make an appearance.

Already pre-ordered the dvd, can’t wait to get it!
That hairstyle is not flattering on SJP, Kim Cattrall, however, looks hot as usual!

  2. Jaclyn says:

Another thing, they need to stop at the sequel. Make one more and stop! They’re going to kill the whole thing if they keep making movies and prequels…

  3. Lara says:

They’re really milking this cow, aren’t they?
SJP looks unbelievably old and haggard here, a few more pounds would do wonders on her face. Not sure about the sequel, I liked the series but the movie sucked.

  4. Anni says:

i wonder about the story. ANOTHER bad breakup with big and then 2 hours to patch things up? heavens no.

  5. snarkyorchid says:

That movie was SO awful. Please don’t make another one. Let me enjoy the old HBO episodes and forget how you turned them all into old booring shrews. SJPs face on the big screen hurts my eyes. Samantha not jumping yummy shower boy was wrong. And EARTH TO AMANDA – if you don’t bang your husband in six months OF COURSE he is going to cheat. You deserved that you frigid controlling lazy bitch. And Charlotte craqpping her pants is funny? Give me a real chick flick like Dirty Love any day of the week.

PS The real Carrie never hooked a “big” – Candace Bushnell, tate vapid, classless, anorexic who based Carrie on heself bought herself a gigilo lapdop who appeard on “Wickedly Perfect” with her. Nothing to envy on that front except form her SITC rolayties believe me.

  6. MSat says:

Good god, that eye makeup is tragic.

  7. Mairead says:

I think SJP nailed it with the hair and outfit actually. The fringe balances her face and I do like the fuschia shoes – bright but not too garish. But you’re right MSat – horrid makeup. I agree with the person who said a few extra pounds would really suit her. Kim’s a tiny bit bigger than the other women but always looks fresh and youthful in her face.

Cynthia Nixon nailed it… again.

Kim on the other hand – the hair is unflattering and the suit should have stayed in 1993.

  8. Chamalla says:

Peep toe shoes aren’t meant to go with nylons. And black-ish hose with fuscia shoes just seems like bad 80’s fashion…

I do like the dress, and it does smack a bit of Audrey. It always strikes me as odd that even teeny tiny women get weird bunchiness in their clothing.

  9. geronimo says:

SJP looks good here but NOOOOOO to a sequel. Do these people ever learn? S&TC was fantastic, the movie was just about okish, but any further flogging of a well and truly dead horse would be a huge mistake.

  10. Kaiser says:

Horrible, horrific outfit. Bad shoes, bad hair, bad make-up, bad gloves, bad fit. SJP, you FAIL.

I hope there will be no more sequels or anything else. They already beat the dead horse enough. The movie was horrible, and it made me think worse of a television series I loved. 😥

  11. Jody says:

what’s with the bride behind SJP in the second stairs pic?

    that’s hilarious

  12. Al says:

They all looked horrible except Cynthia Nixon. Would it be so hard for SJP and Kim Cattrall to wear age-appropriate dresses/outfits? They look ridiculous.

  13. Kat says:

Spare us please. Or wait at least 20 years for another sequel. Sex and the city-the old ladies version-where’s my teeth?

  14. Kate says:

    snarkyorchid – it’s MIRANDA, not AMANDA….I can see you’re a big fan.

  15. Leandra says:

Enough already. I am so sick of hearing about this. SJP needs to be put out to pasture now where she can graze and enjoy her golden years.

  16. stellapurdy says:

@Kate – my thoughts exactly. And anyone that refers to the show as Sex IN the City clearly was never a fan.

I love SJP’s shoes but not with that dress.

  17. Jess says:

I think a prequel would be cool to see their pasts and how they all came to be friends. It’s not really explained in the series.

I thought the movie was nicely done. I admit the Carrie-Big drama is a bit annoying, but that’s to be expected, I guess. I liked the whole wedding vs. marriage message they sent. And the ending was fabulous!

  18. vdantev says:

Is there going to be a sequel? Not if I’ve still got a steady trigger finger.

  19. mom32 says:

I see another Rambo in the making. Hang up the panties and book a place in an old age home. She looks like my granma and she’s 70.

  20. Mark says:

PLEASE stop the torture of this series! It is the equivalent of bad, sexist movies made for and about men for years and it’s perceived as unique and relevatory. I feel like I’m watching a teenage girl’s fantasy whenever I’ve been unfortunate enough to watch this dreck.

  21. ThatBKChick says:

I’ve curbed my enthusiasm on being “SIC” (Sex-In-The City) enough of these old azz Cougars who just won’t go away!…in the words of Whitney Houston…”HELL TO TO NAW”. Them sit back and make money of off the re-runs…enough is enough already!

  22. boobaloob says:

Please let this be an unsubstantiated rumor. I loved the series, but they’re making this into a joke. I only saw the very end of the movie by ducking in to pass the time while I waited for my friend to get out of another movie — the part I saw was ridiculously clichéd and cheesy. They’re going to kill this franchise if they make another movie. They’ve already critically injured it IMHO.

  23. chaz says:

dante, i’ll watch your back and keep some extra AMMO ready…. 😈 just name the time and the place!

  24. shankyouverymuch says:

…….”Sarah Jessica Parker was trying to channel Audrey Hepburn at the DVD release party” I think she missed the mark by just a wee bit. If only Audrey Hepburn would have been a REALLY UGLY horse face, then SJP would be a dead ringer. The way things are now though, SJP is just, well … a REALLY UGLY horse face! :O(

  25. stellapurdy says:

I like her, the rest of you be damned 😀

And it’s Sex AND the City. It’s about sex and the great place they call NEW YORK CITY. The city was the 5th character in the show.

    Jesus

I don’t want to see another movie either but if you’re going to criticize at least get it the fuck right.

  26. I choose me says:

If Kim Cattrall’s boyfriend is 25 then so am I. Hell my 40 yr old husband looks younger than him. Oh and boo to a sequel.

  27. Jeanne says:

Yes, it’s gonna be called Sex in the Retirement Home. Enough already. It had a good run.
