Johnny Depp confirmed for ’21 Jump Street’ reboot cameo

deppsheath13

Johnny Depp is not only a talented actor with incredible screen presence, but he’s also an all-around swell guy who seems very open (relatively speaking) to the suggestions of others. While I wish that we could somehow talk him out of his latest wang-sheath fashion craze, that’s probably not possible, so we’ll have to settle for the fact that Depp has twice spoken of the fact that he’s “absolutely” open to doing a cameo in the “21 Jump Street” reboot and would definitely do it if it’s offered. Well, the offer has arrived, and Depp has now been confirmed for said cameo of the Jonah Hill-scripted movie:

It looks like Jonah Hill has gotten his wish. ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Johnny Depp will indeed have a small cameo role in Columbia Pictures’ 21 Jump Street, which is now filming for a March 16, 2012 release.

To be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), the big screen adaptation stars Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson.

Based on the Fox series that ran from 1987 to 1991, the movie will center on two undercover cops (Hill and Tatum), who are assigned to work in schools. Cube is playing the police chief and Larson is the female lead.

Hill had previously said that they had written a “really funny” cameo for Depp and was hopeful that he would do it.

[From Coming Soon]

Yes, the reboot (like virtually all others) will probably suck (since it stars the interchangeable Channing Tatum and the by-now-ridiculous Ice Cube, why wouldn’t it?), but I think it’s great that Depp has confirmed that he’ll be making an appearance. Lots of actors in his position would probably think they’re just beyond backtracking a few decades to revisit the franchise that made their name, but Johnny is totally down with this sort of thing:

He was so fine back in the day, wasn’t he? Although I’m wondering whether Depp will reprise his former television show character or if they’ll just plop him into the movie in a very unexpected manner. Whatever the case, the alleged “funny” nature of the cameo will once again prove that Depp can make light of himself and is perfectly willing to do so. In fact, he does so regularly by playing such eccentric characters like his most famous to date, Jack Sparrow, a role that (as we’re all quite aware by now) he’ll reprise very soon in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. By the way, here’s that movie’s latest promotional television spot.

It was love at first sight for me with Depp aka Officer Tom Hanson.

Every Sunday night, 7pm I watched 21 Jump Street religiously! Never missed an episode… I think at that point, FOX only had enough programming for two or three days of the week.

I just kind of noticed… I thought he was a huge fan of hats (and scarves) but in all three of his different outfits, he is wearing the same hat (and you can tell because of the holes on top)! I guess it’s like a lucky charm or something haha.

mmm.. i’m so ashamed to admit that I watched crybaby over & over! Johnny Depp was so hot back in the day! 21 Jumpstreet was my favorite show until they replaced him with that dude that plucks his eyebrows!

Ah, memories. 21 Jump Street-era Johnny Depp was the first poster I had up in my room.

Whenever I see the bandana hanging out from underneath his shirt, I think he’s on his way to check the oil in his old camaro. He’s still dreamy though.

I loved 21 Jump Street back in the day. I think it’s really great of him to agree to a cameo, but the reboot sounds pretty bad.

Netflix has 21 Jump Street. My boyfriend didn’t seem me for almost a weekend after I discovered it.

This is why we all have much love for Johnny – he recognizes his roots.

Now lets get a Facts of Life reboot with Clooney.

I remember this episode! He looked so tough when he’s Vato’d up lol! God he was my number one teen dream. So cool he’s in the re-boot, Johnny transcends, never does what is expected of him. Love that about him, endless crappy Pirates or no.

In his position he could act in The Bold and the Beautiful and still be believable as an actor and as an artist.
Jeez, this man can’t be ugly even if he tries to.

The “By now ridiculous Ice Cube” line has me laughing hard.

His song “Hit em Up” remixed by Oakenfold is so great and he was hot in Boyz in the Hood. And now he’s Mr. Are We There Yet? I’m all for people growing up but c’mon. Just a few should stay hard, like if you really are an OG.

OMG I forgot Johnny used to look like that. Good Lord he was fine.

He was so handsome and hot.
Yes he is even now, but then it was different. Now I think “what a hot and awesome man” while when I see his younger self is more like “Come to my house even once” lol
