Katie Holmes & Suri spend a luxurious day swimming & eating ice cream

Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise are in Miami for some reason. And they got pap’d all over the place yesterday, first in the hotel pool and then on an ice cream run. At one point, the paps got some photos of Suri adjusting her little bikini, and they got a shot of Suri’s butt crack. I didn’t want to use those photos, just because it seemed… gross. Presumably grown men, hiding in some hotel bushes, snapping pics of a little girl in a swimsuit. It’s gross. But the photos are still notable I guess because Suri looks like she’s a solid little swimmer, and because Katie doesn’t seem to have a baby bump hidden in her (odd) swimsuit. I like that Katie’s wearing a one-piece, by the way. Bring back the cute one piece! When I look at Katie’s one-piece, though, all I can think about are how weird her tan lines must be.

And here are the ice cream photos. Suri loves her ice cream. The thought that struck me was: this is Suri’s life. Swimming with her mom in the middle of the day in a hotel pool, eating ice cream (presumably) for a meal. All on a weekday. Because God knows, a five year old child doesn’t belong in school, right? And before you start yelling at me about all of the celebrity children who aren’t going to school – all of them have tutors, I’m pretty sure. Except for Ali Lohan. That’s something Ali and Suri seem to have in common – their parents don’t put a high premium on education. Does Suri have a tutor? I’m sure she has “handlers” and “wranglers” but you never hear much about her education, do you? You can see more photos of Katie and Suri’s special day here.

  1. Praise St. Angie! says:

she sure is a cute kid.

that top pic of her in the pool giving a side-eye to the camera is the FIRST time I’ve ever thought she resembles Cruise.

thankfully she looks more like her mother.

  2. brin says:

I’m sure Suri and Katie are being indoctrinated…I mean educated in the COS way of life.

  3. Happymom says:

The “Fashion Icon’s” bathing suit is hideous. It looks droopy and unflattering.

  4. Lynda says:

does this chicld go to school or socialize with age peers/ poor thing.

  5. the original bellaluna says:

Kaiser – Thank you for not using those pix – I think that’s most definitely creepy.

Looks like they had a good time together in the sun, out of Xenu’s shadow.

  6. Hautie says:

Isn’t Florida home to the headquarters of the Cult? (Clearwater?) Maybe Katie wanted a little sun after hitting up the home base of the Cult.

Oddly enough, I had hoped Katie would enroll Suri in a legit pre-K class.

If there was ever a child that needs friends her own age… this is the kid.

  7. devilgirl says:

I am not sure why the Cruises or any other celebrity needs to make a statement to the public about how they choose to educate their children.

  8. Delta Juliet says:

I’m just jealous! I wish I could hang out with my kid, go swimming, and eat ice cream, all in the middle of the week, instead of trying to figure out how to get 2 hours off to go help out at my kids school. Maybe being married to Crazy Tom has it’s advantages!

  9. DeeVine says:

    Suri is one cute kid.

I let my kids skip school sometimes when they are 5. What are they going to miss at that age?! Fun to do mother and child activites when everyone else in school or at work.

  10. 88Modesty88 says:

What an ill-fitting bathing suit! I’m sure Katie can’t dive in that thing without it creeping up in places…

And @devilgirl: Yeah, nobody has to explain how they educate their kids, as long as education is involved! At that age, kids learn through play anyway. But what is this little one being taught, I wonder…

  11. MikeyAngel says:

Hautie, it is in Clearwater, which boasts some of the best beaches in the world, so I would presume if she wanted some sun and fun after a headquarter meeting she would find something suitable there, but I could be wrong.

  12. icantbelievethis says:

I think Suri is the same age as my 5 yo (who starts school in the fall). My 5 yo didn’t go to pre-k but can do 1st grade math and read, so pre-k isn’t a must.

  13. Rasputina says:

Sweet Jesus, I know I live in Eastern Europe and shit, but since when 5-year-olds go to school? I went to school wehn I was 7 and a half. Of course I had received some prior tutoring on how to write capital letters and reading basics, but… 5? DUDE. Then again, the US school system does differ from ours’. I’ll be 20 in october and I’m only graduating high school this spring.

    I’m confus. Enlighten me, somebody.

  14. Delta Juliet says:

    @ Rasputina

Kindergarten starts at 5 here….we usually graduate at 17 or 18.

  15. haa says:

pls shut it about indoctrinating Suri into CO$, unless you are an atheist. All religions are bullshit including CO$.

Anyway little Suri is Tom’s mini me. I wonder how Tom remains so young and fresh when his contempraries like Nicole Kidman and Brad Pitt are wilting.

  16. dorothy says:

Glad to see she’s doing kid things and it’s not midnight. Also, what’s up with Katies swimsuit? Looks like a homemade suit.

  17. Nikkers says:

That is a pretty big ice cream cone for a 5 year old!

My son (also 5) would kill for that life: hanging out at home, eating giant ice cream cones, going shopping with Mommy every day. I worry about that little one — she needs to socialize with other kids. At some point, she’s going to have to….

  18. bluhare says:

I like the swimsuit. Saw it yesterday. And they’re in Miami because Cruise is there doing Rock of Ages.

  19. Sue says:

haa@ Please Tom looks just as old as the others his age I don’t know where you get(young and fresh)from.

Why is Katie in the pool with a hat and sunglasses on she looks ridiculous and I agree the swimsuit is hideous.

  20. StacEy says:

Just wanted to pop by & post a comment about the point that was made about Suri not being in school….

My daughter & Suri have birthdays within 2 weeks of each other & technically they aren’t allowed to start Kindergarten until this upcoming school year.

Love this site!! I read it every day! You guys need an iPhone app!!

  21. thegreatdefender says:

It’s nice to see mom and daughter sharing a nice day.

  22. 88Modesty88 says:

Thanks for that titbit, StacEy. Interesting how the schooling differs from country to country.

Here in South Africa kids start “real” school at 6, the year they turn 7, but pre-schooling is encouraged, with Grade 00 (sounds ridiculous) and Grade R as options. There kids are taught the three R’s, reading, writing and ‘rhythmetic.

My baby is 8 months old and I’m thinking of enrolling her in a nursery (have to go back to work SOMETIME) but I just said to my husband: “I don’t want her going to school from now until she’s 18!”

  23. XIOnce says:

I second the iPhone app motion!

  24. KateNonymous says:

What’s nice about these photos is that you can really see affection between the two of them. It looks like they had a nice mother-daughter day.

I’ll bet Suri does have some kind of tutor, but that would make her home-schooled, which doesn’t have to have a public school day schedule. So, big deal, they’re on vacation in May. That really doesn’t tell me anything about what Suri is or isn’t learning.

  25. 88Modesty88 says:

@Kate: True, we don’t know what she’s learning. But interaction with kids her own age is very important IMHO.

  26. KateNonymous says:

Agreed, but she’s not even at home in these pictures. That may be an issue in her life, but I don’t see this occasion as part of that problem.

  27. Kbomb says:

Why is the child wearing red lip gloss??

  28. KateNonymous says:

Because she’s a tiny woman. I object more to the heels they let her wear.

  29. Lisa Turtle says:

Yikes! Suri (age 5) looks like Kate-Bot (age 30) in that last photo! Even her pose is zombie-esque.

Plus, Kate-Bot is looking 40-50 years old in some of these photos. Cult membership is bad for the skin.

  30. Atticus says:

WOW, Suri is one pretty little girl. She looks healthy and happy. More power to ’em. I’m not surprised she’s not in school, either, as per previous posters noted her age and the standard US cut-offs for starting kindergarten. Do hope to see her in a school this fall, and not home schooled though.

  31. Mary Jane says:

This is truly one spooky looking family. E’en the kid seems to have “dead” eyes.
And does anyone really think this kid is going to go to “school?” Private tutors more than likely…

  32. Poopie says:

Suri looks like a spoiled uncontrolled undisciplined brat who gets exactly what she wants and looks down her nose at the peons around her.

and she wears UGLY SHOES ! get that kid some tennies !

  33. original kate says:

poor katie – suri seems to be the only friend she has.

  34. Kelly says:

I believe Bella and Connor are home schooled by CO$ – God forbid they get out from under the cult’s control. Does anyone know how Ella Travolta is educated?

  35. as says:

Ice cream, candy, baked goods. I’m surprised Suri isn’t fat or in pre-diabetic shock. Sorry when I get my kids ice cream (and it’s once in awhile, not every day), they get the small cone – not the big a$$ one Suri has.

I am not a fan of her bikini. It screams pedo wet dream.

  36. di butler says:

Suri is taught at home by Tom’s sister who indoctrinated the older two. I usually love, love, love, to bash the Scienos, but this just looks like every other mom in my ‘hood and their kids in the Summer. Nothing unique about it. Plus, remember, Suri picks her own meals, so if it’s ice cream she wants……..

  37. KateNonymous says:

I don’t see anything that shocking about either suit. From these photos, I can’t even tell that Suri’s is a bikini. What’s “pedo wet dream” about it? And what a disturbing phrase. I hope it’s not also a revealing phrase.

  38. thegreatdefender says:

Seems Katie can’t win these days, good mother is too much for you people to bear without tearing them both down with evil harshness. Take a pill and look into your own sad little lives.

  39. Kloops says:

She’ll be “homeschooled” by the Co$. That kid is going to be a nightmare, but I can’t tell if she’s going to rebel from Co$ and run wild, or stay under it’s thumb and become a “fashionista” and have a clothing line handed to her. We know that’s what they’re grooming her for. But they’ll try the acting thing too, I’m sure. They are going to be shoving her down our throats as an alleged talent for years to come. A higher education will not be a part of her future.

  40. TG says:

I didn’t start school until I was 6 and I turned out fine and was a better reader than many of the kids who went to preschool. I did miss the socialization which in today’s world is critical. Unless you are one of the lucky few who do not have to pretend to enjoy working with others and being a team player.

  41. LBeees says:

Man, poor kid. I mean, not *poor*, obviously. But what a warped childhood. She’s still at that age where normal is normal. In a few years I think she is going to realize that getting photographed every minute of every day is really NOT normal. Her rebellion will be epic!

  42. Vesper says:

That child is ALWAYS eating something sweet, even at the ballet. How can she possibly go to school when her parents take her out for dinner / ice cream at midnight? Apparently she does read fashion magazines. I doubt an education is high up on the list for the Cruises and more importantly The Cult. It’s not like Tom is known for being scholarly. As for socialization, I always see pics of Suri with adults. The few times I have seen her with children is with celebritys’ children. I once read that Suri wanted to go to the park, and instead a park with all the trimmings was built on their residence. The story was from a gossip rag so who knows if it was true but something tells me Tom wouldn’t have it any other way.

I think Suri will be a nightmare when she grows up. Scientology believes in treating children as adults. She seems to have no boundaries. She picks her own clothes, heels, makeup, meals (sorry, desserts). She seems to have no set bedtime and most of the time I see her parents carrying her, versus her walking herself. She will grow up to be a high maintenance, entitled, shallow, diva like her father. She’ll be into makeup, clothing and looking pretty like her mother.

  43. Elizabeth Rose says:

Katie sure is a stunning woman. I personally think she looks nice in the swimsuit. Not particularly my taste but it’s demure, not overly sexy and that’s kind of refreshing. In the link there is a photo of her from behind and man, I would kill to have an a$% as firm as that (TMI I know…) and the cover up for her swimsuit is also quite nice. In general, I think they look very sweet together. Must be crazy always dealing with the constant scrutiny.

  44. Lia says:

Katie looks like LaToya Jackson in that first photo….. Otherwise, she looks good. They live a priveliged life. I just don’t know why we have to keep looking at photos of it. We get it already. They’re wealthy, they have everything they want, and their lives mirror nothing in ours. Let’s move on.

  45. thegorilla says:

shes grown up quickly, its like she was a toddler a few days ago – its weird how that happens
