Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s pregnancy is confirmed by her father-in-law

Several weeks ago, French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy stepped out for a formal event, and everyone was like “Damn, lady, you look preggo.” You can see the photos here – she was definitely carrying some baby-looking weight in her midsection. Anyway, for all of these weeks, the Sarkos have not made any kind of official announcement, I suspect because they wanted to wait to make sure this pregnancy is a go, for real. But now Sarko’s dad is confirming the news:

Grandpa has spilled the haricots – French for beans. Pal Sarkozy, the father of France’s president Nicolas Sarkozy, has told the German newspaper Bild that his son and daughter-in-law, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, are expecting a baby.

Rumors of a pregnancy have been circulating since late April, when the French press spotted the first lady doing some maternity shopping in Paris, although President Sarozy’s office has declined comment.

Pal Sarkozy, 82, added, “Neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I’m certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla.”

Sarkozi, 56, and Bruni, 43, married in 2008. The former supermodel-turned-singer – who appears in Woody Allen’s latest movie, Midnight in Paris, starring Owen Wilson – already has a 10-year-old son, Aurélian, from a previous relationship.

Sarkozy has three sons between the ages of 25 and 13 from his two previous marriages. Last year, he became a grandfather for the first time. His office did not comment on Bruni-Sarkozy’s pregnancy.

[From People]

Carla has said in the past that she would like to have a son with Sarko, but she already has a son (with that dude that she homewrecked, right?) and Sarko has three sons from his previous marriages. So I think it would be nice if Carla and Sarko had a daughter. Have you ever noticed that most successfully elected politicians have daughters? It’s a real thing. Fathers of daughters are more likely to run for office, and more likely to be elected.

By the way, have you guys been following the IMF president’s sexual assault scandal? In case you were wondering, Sarko is going to benefit from Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s disgrace and possible/probable jail sentence. Strauss-Kahn was the leading candidate for the French Socialist Party, so now Sarko’s reelection is looking a lot easier. Now imagine Carla with her bump joining him on the campaign trail.

yes, that dog blanket pic is all manner of confuserising.

Edit to add: it’s not just the belly in those pics, look at the boobs! (Speaking as a preggo who had to go 5 months before her belly became anywhere near as large as her boobs.)

  7. Pont Neuf says:

Aaaaawwww, this is sweet! By the way, the child was conceived by which man in the Sarkozy family?

You know, I was asking just to clarify, since Carla seems to have a penchant for having affairs (and children) with men, while married to their fathers.

Anyway, I hope that Jean Sarkozy, I mean, Nicolas Sarkozy, is very happy with the prospect of parenthood.

pont neuf- I was just thinking the same thing. lol She was living with the father when she started an affair with his married son. Oh, and she denies she ever slept with the father. Ew.

Whoa, Nelly!! She was with a married man and was messing with his kid?? Woody Allen anyone? Does it count if the son wasn’t under age? Seems tres skeevy at best.

By the way, THANK YOU for introducing me to “skeevy”. Love that word!

@bluhare – She claims she was just living with an old guy without having sex with him and fell in love (aka jumped on his rich dong) with his married son. Riggght. Cause unrelated men let you live with them out of the goodness of their hearts…

Lol did you get the word skeevy from me? I did use that yesterday to describe Brad. :P

Both to old to be having a baby. Its selfish. Think of how old they will be when the child is in high school. He will not be able to relate to them at all. They will never live to see this child children etc. Just selfish to have a child at their ages.

@Kim, pretty selfish of you to determine who is entitled to be a parent. She’s 43. Tina Fey is 41. Is she selfish? How about me, I’m 36? Where’s your completely arbitrary line?

I get your point if you’re talking about some octogenarian rich dude but a 43 year old? Please.

  18. Lizzy says:

Regarding your comment about the IMF, yes it’s looking rather bad for DSK but Sarkozy has been very disappointing, polls have showed that a strong majority is supporting the extreme right, which is very scary if you ask me.
Other than that, Carla Bruni is looking all botoxy and smug, she is a skanky homewrecker and I’m probably the only person who hasn’t slept with her in France.

“So now Sarko’s reelection is looking a lot easier.”

Yeah. Except that no. Not, really. Everyone hates Sarkozy with a fierce passion in France and I really doubt that he’ll be reelected. DSK was only a contender in the socialist primaries, therefore there are other potential candidates who will be happy to kick Sarko’s butt thank-you-very-much.

    :-)

@Lili: Amen (in the most “laïque” way). Preach it, sistah.
The dwarf has got to go.

And yes, the dog blanket picture made me wonder what sort of baby they were looking at. Until the eurocent dropped: a blanket with a dog, not a scary half-human half-grey snake child.

Thank you, TQB and Wunderkindt. Seriously, Kim, I challenge you to stand next to my 46-year-old behind as I pick up my 6-year-old at school. There are mothers 15 years younger than me who are on track be dealing with obesity-related diseases at my age while I’m be happily running 5Ks at 61.

    @ Lizzy

the 1st time I heard Bruni mentioned, it was because she was having an affair with Mick Jagger who was very married and had 4 kids with Jerry Hall. I didn’t think she was very classy then and – continental sophistication be damned – I don’t think she’s very classy now. But she certainly has moved up in the world.

At first glance, I thought the mom was wearing a leather jacket in her hospital bed. Next to a squid. (Carla’s so high on pg hormones, she’s cooing, “You have the cutest squid-baby! Lucky you!”)

Who’s the father? Whatch this space. The French have a fine history of not being monogamous. Especially Carla. She was absolutely stunning when young… shouldn’t have messed with her face.

It could be a high risk pregnancy, but not necessarily. Besides, we can be assured that she will have the absolute best of care.
I think Princess Caroline had a baby with her current brutish (though aristocratic) husband at about the same age.
