Rihanna & Lady Gaga both perform in dueling morning show appearances

lady_gaga_14_wenn5662691

You know Lady Gaga is overexposed when you look at the same old half-sheer catsuit that she’s worn a million different times and you think to yourself, “Yes, at long last, I think that the catsuit is kind of cute.” These are photos of both Gaga and Rihanna, who both performed this morning on the Good Morning America and Today Show, respectively. Today is in the midst of their “Summer Concert Series” and GMA is in the midst of copying them. Lady Gaga memorably performed in the rain on the Today show last year – her performance was really endearing, honestly. That’s back when I liked her. Not so much any more. Anyway, for Gaga’s first act, she zip-lined her way onto the stage:

And here’s the Rihanna junk – you can see more of her performance and junk here, at the Today site. Here’s Rihanna singing “S&M”. I hate this song. Passionately. As Rihanna’s walking by the crowd of people, you can see her get grabbed by a “rabid fan”. Gross – hands off Rihanna, please, people!

Here’s Rihanna’s performance of “California King Bed”. You know what? Just like Katy Perry, Rihanna really isn’t a live act. I would enjoy seeing Adele on this summer concert series though.

They both ROCK IT,I watch both.

  2. Eve says:

I saw the thumbnail for the post (main page) and thought Rihanna looked like a real doll.

  3. Heatheradair says:

Soooo – Rihanna has roots. Which means that’s not a wig? She’s actually done that horrible raggedy anne thing to her real hair? yikes.

  4. flounder says:

When can we just have normal music with artists not trying to be “artists”???

  5. HotPockets says:

They both need tons of gimmicks and props to make their performances decent (Katy Perry and Riri). Neither voice is strong enough and neither one can dance.

Is Riri wearing a wig or is that her actual hair with hair extensions? I see roots.

  6. HotPockets says:

    @ Heather

That was the same thing I thought, she actually did that to her REAL hair, it is not just a wig.

I was never a Gaga fan, got taken to her concert, gained respect because the girl sang great and put on an amazing show. So I decided to watch some of the MTV doc/interview last night about Gaga. You know maybe I could be a fan, I thought…

OMFG! I could not take it. She came off so affected and self-important. Her art and her quest blah blah… The only thing I could think was that the whole interview is performance art. Gaga has decided to live completely as some creation who speaks in dramatic tones using purposeful cadence and suffered phrases. There was this whole part about an aunt who passed before she was born and she has two hearts because of it and she is channeling and emoting, blah blah. She thinks she is deep, I thought she was boring.

Rihanna is TERRIBLE live. I will never understand why people say she’s at all talented. She can’t sing (carrying a tune isn’t singing, I’m looking at you Jennifer Lopez), and she doesn’t really dance. Not like old Britney Spears dance.

Yes, she’s breathtakingly beautiful, but Jay-Z, who I really respect, must have gotten some Rihanna pussy or something because making someone so untalented THIS famous seems really bogus to me.

EDIT: And what is with sharpening our fake nails to a point? Is this becoming a “thing” now? I’m seeing it more and more on the red carpet and personally I think it looks really gross and witchy.

  9. Kaboom says:

If that doesn’t scare you awake not even coffee will help.

  10. Beatrix says:

Oooh, Gaga is copying Beth Ditto with that jacket.
@miagirl. I feel the exact same way you do. I want to love Gaga so much, but the 24/7 “gaganess” is exhausting and seemingly fake. I
hate that she talk to/about her fans like they are all insecure, fragile morons.

Rihanna needs to go away. Her voice makes me want to rip out my ear drums.

    And finally, ADELE IS EVERTHING!!!!!!

    Have a great holiday!

Even though shes been annoying me lately… Gaga >>>>> Rihanna. At least definitely as a live act. G is a better performer I guess im saying. You are so right saying Rihanna is like katy perry. They sing live but theres not a lot of moving around, just looking sexy. No personality on stage.

  12. Annie_Grey says:

Rihanna’s been looking like she’s on something, lately.

So is ugly the new pretty?

  14. RHONYC says:

    BWAHAHAHA!!!!

    ZIPLINED???!!!!

her looney tune antics crack me the f*ck up!!!

i haven’t even looked at the vids yet! lol

more back after i’ve seen them & had my lunch…

    😆

  15. RHONYC says:

#1. the zipline was AWESOME & HILARIOUS at the same time.
yo! central park needs to seriously consider having one built, that looked way more fur & less dangerous than the ones in the woods!

#3. her spiky jacket outfit was MAY-JAH (as Posh says)!!!

#4. she’s got a badass body i’ll tell ya that. it’s tight as a mthafkg drum!

    # 3. i LOVE, LOVE, LOVED that rendition of ‘Hair’. like her SNL piano performance of ‘Edge of Glory’, it was so damn beautiful…especially loved when the camera panned on the 2 fashionable fellows and the cute twin gals at min 2:45 who were mouthing the lyrics. so lovely.

#4. i LOVE that Daddy Germanotta travels with her and is at a lot of her shows. that’s wonderful to have such support.

lmao @ him putting his paws up!

see, my older dorkiness is vindicated. hmp! 😉

  16. LunaT says:

Everytime I see a pic of Rhianna and her red hair, I think of Ronald McDonald not a fiery, sexy redhead.

  17. Amanda G says:

I love Gaga’s voice. Girl can sing and has talent.

Rihanna has a unique voice and I appreciate that. I give her credit for always singing live though. She could have easily been a lip syncer.

  18. Trillion says:

Watching Rhianna after Gaga just put into sharp relief how puny her live voice and live performance are in comparison. Gaga is probably about the toughest act to follow at this level.

  19. Overexposed, yes, but I still don’t think that catsuit is very cute.

  20. Shay says:

    They both look hideous.

  21. vickie says:

i like rihanna. i think she’s got something else beneath the music-industry-creature stuff.

  22. luls says:

    Gaga is gaga. Wont comment.

Rihanna, I actually liked her performance. Sure it WASNT perfect, but it WAS pretty close to the studio recorded version! (She doesnt sound perfect in that either)

Rihanna’s music, is usually hit or miss. Live too.

  23. Paige says:

Rhianna has to put on booty shorts and pose because she has no talent. The bitch can’t sing. A pretty face is nice but does she have talent to back it up. Gaga may be weird, antics overbearing at times, she may not be a beauty queen but the bitch can sing. She has talent that’s undeniable. She rocked that stage and her voice is beautiul. i will only buy your records to hear your talent such as adele beyonce and gagas. Booty shorts are find but I can’t hear them on a record.

  24. jover says:

22# the fact that the song was close to the studio version highlights how bad riri is; one thing wthat made the guitar gods and the great rock bands great was their ability to vary their songs considerably from their studio versions (think of the hundreds of ways Jimi played Voodoo child); the fact that riri sings her songs as recorded shows her pitiful musical skills – who wants to go to a concert and hear songs the same as they are on the cd – I can stay home and do that – improvise and show me what you can do musically live. Live music shouldn’t be perfect – it should be raw, emotional, and off the cuff.

  25. There is clearly a lot to know about this. I consider you made certain good points in features also. Could you update me with your next post please?
