Emma Watson complains about “the circus” around her, because she’s so famous

wenn3377238

I don’t know how else to say this: I fear that fans of Emma Watson are going to be massively disappointed in her in the coming years. In the past year, Emma’s just seemed… “off”. And I don’t mean crazy – I mean that her party-girl “I’ll go to the opening of an envelope” actions don’t correspond with the her wholesome, studious, intelligent image. There’s a disconnect between how people think of her (“the cute girl from Harry Potter!”) and what and who she’s actually becoming (college dropout, budget-looking model and frequent party-girl sidekick of Harvey Weinstein). I think the chick has a streak of Lohan, I swear to God. Of course Emma can turn it around. Of course she can prove me wrong. But so far… yeah. I’m worried about her fans.

Anyway, in addition to wearing this fugly Marchesa, Emma also had a costume change for last night’s post-MTV Movie Awards parties, which was another Marchesa, this one not so bad. She also posed for photos with various celebrities and you can see those photos here. This is her life now. She just hangs around, changing into barely-there dresses and then she goes to parties. A lot of celebrities do that too, but those celebrities don’t have the image of a “nice college girl growing into a classy young lady.” Once again, I’m just sayin’. I’m sure all of this is “required” to promote the upcoming Harry Potter film. I’m sure! Because Daniel Radcliffe and Ginger WhatsIt were nowhere to be found.

Emma has also started giving interviews in support of the next Harry Potter film. The Mail has some excerpts from an interview she gave over the weekend where Emma claimed that she’s simply too famous and intimidating for most guys to date:

Emma Watson has revealed men are intimidated by her because they don’t feel they can get past the ‘fame wall’. The 21-year-old actress admits she gets frustrated that being a Hollywood star often stops her from finding a man.

She said: ‘I ask my friends, ”Why hasn’t X called me? Why doesn’t anyone ever pursue me?” My friends tell me, ”Probably because they’re intimidated”. It must be the fame wall. It must be the circus that goes around me.’

Harry Potter star Emma has previously dated men including financier Jay Barrymore and male model George Craig but is currently single. And the actress admits it’s not only her fame that puts men off as she has a very complex personality.

She told the Sunday Times’ Style magazine: ‘I’m this very weird mix. In some senses, I feel as if I’m 100 years old. In others, I still feel incredibly young, very naive and as if I haven’t seen much of the world at all. Sometimes I think I’m the worst person in the world to be in the situation I’m in. I’m shy, I”m sensitive and I’m self-critical. It’s a terrible combination.’

[From The Mail]

Um… is there a circus around her? There might be a circus atmosphere when she’s actually on a promotional trail for a film, and yeah, sometimes the British tabloids can be a little bit too much, of course. But I thought that was why she decided to come to America to go to college? And she was left alone at Brown for the most part (except for a handful of douchey college boys, which is true of nearly every coed). It just feels like she’s bitching about something that she’s actively seeking out – she’s on the party circuit now, she’s getting modeling contracts and trying to make herself more and more high-profile… and now she’s complaining about how it’s all “a circus”, etc. Ugh, she just rubs me the wrong way.

Oh, and this is one of the most hideous mullets I’ve seen outside of the South.

It is depressing how she’s turning into lohan now. My Emma Watson crush is breathing its lasts breaths.

  2. serena says:

She’s letting her hair grow. I like the dress and she still seems fine and nice to me. Quit bitching about her.

  3. mia girl says:

I knew my spidy senses couldnt be wrong… in all the audience cut aways at the MTVMAs, she always had a b*tch face on. I thought, omg, is she actually the mean girl?! Who would have thunk it?
    Let’s hope I’m wrong.

P.S. the more I see of the dress and shoes, the uglier they get. Blah.

  4. MariPily says:

Yeah, she is so, so, so young. Her behavior seems normal for a young, rich girl barely out of her teens. If she’s still acting this way when she is Sienna Miller’s age, then that’s another story. But at 21? Few people know what they want from life at 21. One day she might want to do the whole college thing, the next she wants to be a big movie star. I’d imagine being so wealthy might make her even more confused…there are so many options available to her.

  5. RocketMerry says:

Lohan’s personality changed accordingly to her hair colour.
Maybe Watson’s personality changes accordingly to her hair cuts…?
    Fascinating.

  6. Bac says:

I see Krisbians attacking Emma who has class unlike that trashy Kristen.

  7. Rosi says:

i adore her… but i would recommend her to take acting classes because girl, be real, you did not really act in the potter movies… no probleme with that but if she wants to continue making movies she should really draw herself into acting… i am afraid though that she thinks modelling is so much easier…

  8. kara says:

I hope she goes back to school and turns it around– as insufferable as Natalie Portman sometimes seems, the way she handled her education and her career was really impressive.

I’ll cut Em here some slack for the hair though. Until you’ve grown out a pixie cut you have NO IDEA how awkward it can be.

  9. littlemissnaughty says:

I think the Lohan connection is absolutely not there. I mean … we’re talking LiLo here, please.
The fact that she dropped out of college? Many many MANY people drop out and yeah, she’s 21 for the love of gawd. I’m glad nobody pointed a camera at my a++ at 21. It would not have been pretty. She might just be trying to live a little after working and studying during her teen years. Let’s hope she gets her sh!t together and this doesn’t go much further. It’s not like she’s crack-partying with Amy Winehouse.

  10. almond says:

That dress looks really cheap and the hair is not helping the overall ensemble at all. As for her new tendencies, they certainly clash with the image she has carefully cultivated over the years. I’m beginning to think less and less of her.

Of course, there’s also the fact that she has been associated far too much with her HP character. She’s no Hermione, but she’s been playing her for so long the lines got kind of indistinct. So we might absolve her of any fault entirely and blame the whole thing on the perception of character/actor. But she has said herself that she is ultra-studious and geeky and wants the peace and quiet of an American university. So… yeah, she can’t cut it both ways and lately it’s been leaning more toward party-girl extraordinaire instead of modest, scholarly erudite.

  11. Cheyenne says:

kara: Until you’ve grown out a pixie cut you have NO IDEA how awkward it can be.
    ============================================

LOL!! Been there done that not once but twice. It gets to this in-between length where there is NOTHING you can do with it. All you can do is let it keep growing past that stage. It takes about a year to get from pixie to shoulder length.

I chopped it off for the third time and now I’m keeping my pixie cut. Much more practical.

  12. Obvious says:

I think that once she was in college (and she did give it a good shot) she realized it’s not what she wanted. She thought it was, she changed her mind. As long as she’s not driving around drunk, hitting babies doing blow and lord only knows what other crack shenanigans Lilo would get herself into given half a chance, i’m fine with her.

  13. Rhiley says:

She seems like a budget Portman to me at this point in her career but once she doesn’t get the movie roles she desires, and sadly after Potter, she won’t, she will be party up a lot more and will probably become more like a budget Mary Kate Ashley Olson (as she was known on Full House).

  14. Bodhi says:

I think its pretty ridiculous to compare Emma to LL. Emma was hired as a child to do a huge job & she successfully accomplished her goal & kept her nose clean while doing it. When was the last time LL successfully completed ANYTHING?

  15. Liana says:

This is called growing up. We all do it, most of us are lucky enough not to have to do it in the public eye. At the moment, she is not doing anything more than any 21 year old actress. Time will tell what route she will take, but slamming her for deferring college and taking some jobs is a bit unreasonable.

  16. Whatever says:

Much adieu about nothing. So what? She goes to a few parties and she’s a Lohan? Give me a break! I see her at parties for events and award shows, not falling down drunk every damned night in front of the paps, driving drunk, having accidents and being so unprofessional that directors are writing open letters about her, ie Georgia Rule. She isn’t doing any of that, just being a young girl.

  17. Ari says:

I would love to see her just punk out already – she has the perfect face for it – nice spiked hair, darkly lined eyes, some funky clothes – she could totally play it off and probably be sexier.

  18. gabs says:

I agree on one point. This would be less annoying if she wasnt getting modeling contracts for lancome and burberry and whatever else. You cant chase that kind of attention and then bitch. If Emma doesnt want the circus she didnt have to become one of those fashion/party girls. BUT I would not compare her to Lohan at all. What are you talking about?

  19. Mario says:

Shut the hell up Emma, you’re rich and famous at an age when most people are struggling to get through college, pay rent and afford food.

  20. Ron says:

Wow. When did it become a problem changing your mind, your hair, and going to parties at 21.

  21. angel says:

Kind of you and all. However, she has grace, poise, beauty, and brains, and a great talent that only needs time to blossom; you needn’t worry about her, or her fans. She is great british example of living ‘the dream’. She can have it all and she knows it. But you just keep on trying to make that Emma hate happen ;).

“I’m this very weird mix. It’s a terrible combination…”

If you don’t see modesty in that, you simply don’t want to.

Question: what beautiful, successful, young actress doesn’t rub you the wrong way?

  22. Kasper says:

@Mario – so what? Why does she have to suffer because some poor people have problems with their life? Stop blaming her for other people’s faults.

  23. kim says:

her outside matches her inside – UGLY

  24. carrie says:

    maybe! i don’t know !
she wants to be a IT-girl but she learns to act because in my opinion, she ‘s just correct in POTTER movies

  25. Liana says:

Why is she ugly inside? because she’s 21, adjusting to being a grown up, and learning that fame is very different when you’re an adult?

  26. Nanea says:

As it’s the Daily Fail, I’m inclined to believe this is either completely made up or otherwise tweaked to sound off.

The DM may be known for may things but most certainly not journalistic integrity.

  27. Kim says:

I have zero sympathy for these overpaid brats who cry about not have privacy.

  28. Casper the ghost says:

She needs to go work in a soup kitchen and volunteer cleaning up over in Japan. Then her petty problems will seem like nothing.

  29. imabrat says:

She still doesn’t come close to being a Lohan disaster. I think all the fame has just gone to her head and she just needs to be slapped.

  30. Charlotte says:

I guess I missed the boat when it comes to all the stuff she’s supposedly been doing that’s “off”. She seems in every way normal for a girl her age, in the spotlight. And yes, she doesn’t have to worry about money, but she’s not whining about that, is she? She’s talking about how naive she feels, about how she struggles to get dates, etc. Honestly, I think a lot of young people dream about hitting it big, but when they actually do, they realize it’s not all champagne and roses. It’s embarrassing moments that no one will let you forget, it’s being criticized for every little thing you ever do or say, and let’s face it, dating would probably be a nightmare. Some people are famewhores and I have no sympathy for them. However, she sounds like a young girl who is finding out how hard it is to have a regular life when you’re life is. soooo. not. regular.

  31. Lucinda says:

I agree that she’s being 21 and is doing it under intense scrutiny. Even 10 years ago, young actors and actresses could screw up and it had to be pretty big before anyone noticed. Now, they make one funny face and it’s all over the internet for days, weeks, years. Only time will tell how she will turn out.

  32. Angie says:

She doesn’t seem like a (future) Lohan to me. Chloe Moretz seems more like the fame hungry teen star. I think Emma just loves the spotlight more than she will admit. She is more like a Kate Winslet or a Natalie Portman. She acts like she doesn’t want fame or money, just want to go to school and is above it all. But then fronts a major campaign for luxury brands, and poses in a tacky short dress and blows kisses like a disney twat at the MTV movie award. Call her an hypocrite then, just like a lot of famous actors/ actresses before her. It’s a shame, It’s become boring and I thought she was better than that. BUT in my opinion she is still one of the better starlets around: she is professional during her promotional duties, she is poised and lovely and not awkward at all in her interviews ( I look at you Kristen stewart). She is not bitchy and judgy ( like emma roberts) and doesn’t stalk famous actors for worlwide fame and has a fake body (blake lively). We don’t know if she has even a boyfriend so for now she is not a rachel bilson or Kate bosworth, she is successful in her own right. She just wants to front like she is above it all, not in the hollywood game and very private but she is just an ambitious young actress who is privilleged and grow up in a bubble so she is not very self aware (she complains about fame for YEARS now). She just don’t own it. Watson is more the self absorbed actress who contradict herself like Scarjo-Knightley-Portman-Biel-Lively before her.
I prefer young actresses like Ellen Page, Mia wasikowska, Emma stone, and Carey Mulligan who seem more real and down to earth. They are not tabloid target and well known fashion girl like Emma but they are better and more dedicated actress. Not wannabes.

  33. Angie says:

And Emma’s parents are lawyers, not famewhores who pimp their children. Nobody know who they are.

  34. gee_gee says:

Eh. I don’t see a problem. God knows I have heard and seen worse.

  35. Kloops says:

Budget Portman. I agree with that analogy. She can’t act so I don’t see her having much of a career beyond the Harry Potter franchise, but maybe she will take drama classes and prove me wrong. Don’t see her going full LiLo though.

  36. Emma says:

But there were pictures of her all the time while she was at school! They weren’t posted on this site, but another site I used to frequent (The Superficial, I think) Pictures of her and friends, tons of pictures of her at the gym… it was way invasive. I stopped clicking on links with her name because I felt so sorry for her. I could see her leaving for an American uni, thinking it would be a break, that the paps would leave her alone and finding out that it’s just as bad in the states. So, probably, she was just like screw it. I can get my picture taken and get paid for it.

    That’s how I see it.

  37. chiii bird says:

LOL. What’s with all the Emma hate?
The girl seems alright to me. She might come off as a bit hypocritical with that interview but she doesn’t seem like a LiLo 2.0… I might be wrong but that’s an exaggeration. She’s only 21 and it’s not as if she’s OD-ing on drugs. She dropped out of college? No biggie… the girl’s rich; she could continue her studies anytime in the future if she wants to.
People need to calm their tits.

  38. Kasper says:

@Angie: Chloe is a fame hungry teen star? WTF? Elaborate it or admit you are just a hater.

  39. Marianne says:

I do think its unfair to compare Emma to Lilo. So she dropped out of college, and she wears short dresses, and poses with celebrities (and that makes her bad)? I’m sorry but she hasnt been caught with her boobs hanging out of a dress, or flashing her vadge, drunk driving, drug use, getting arrested etc etc. I think she’s acting like most 21 year olds.

And yeah, I’ve had a pixie cut too, and theres not much you can do when your trying to grow your hair out.

  40. AngelMay says:

I have more respect for the Blohan than this whiny little cow. Lohan had genuine star quality and it takes guts (abeit misguided ) to go down in flames. This little girl isn’t that talented or beautiful, just got lucky. Either work the ho stroll hard like Blake or go home.

  41. Nicky says:

Seems like pretty much every female celeb rubs Kaiser up the wrong way lately. The posts here used to be amusing with a good dose of snark, now they have become excessively vitriolic.

  42. Joey says:

Because I have never seen a Harry Potter movie I have no idea who she is. Not TOO famous.

  43. kapser says:

I wouldn’t know Amy Watson from a hole in the wall, unless the name hole in the wall’s name is Amy Watson.

  44. All grown up says:

I dropped out of college sophomore year. I had no idea what I wanted to do so I lived life, worked a full time job, and took a bunch of classes I liked. After a few years, I got my head on straight enough to graduate summa cum laude with a degree in biochem & molecular bio. I did exceptionally well in medical school and am now thriving as a medical resident.

I’m so glad the spotlight on my early life missteps was small & dim. I’m also grateful I didn’t go straight through college & med school as the experiences I had and people I met made me a much more well rounded human being with an exceptional (according to many patients as well as the attendings and nurses who evaluate me) ability to relate to others.

I hope people will give this young woman a chance to explore herself and the world before writing her off for what amounts to some pretty trivial stuff.

  45. Maddox says:

Someday she’ll read over some of these interviews and wish she could crawl into a really deep hole. I really do feel badly for her in a sense, she’s more naive than she realizes. Still, it’s obvious that she also believes her own hype. Pretty stupid for such a smart girl.

  46. Nicky says:

“This is her life now. She just hangs around, changing into barely-there dresses and then she goes to parties.”

Not quite. Aside from reshoots for HP, she completed one film at the end of last year which she’ll star in alongside Michelle Williams and is currently filming another with Paul Rudd. (Not a fan, I just IMDb’d her).
So what if she wants to go out and have fun? She’s entitled to considering she’s been working on one of the biggest movie franchises since she was ten! Oh, and word is she’s going back to college next year.

  47. Val says:

Kaiser, I agree with the above poster. Your posts are indeed becoming vitriolic. Lighten up, lady!

  48. benny says:

She can’t act. All the child actors in the Harry Potter movies are poor actors, but she stands out as particularly bad. The only way she can stay in that business is by being a “celebrity,” not by acting.

She should take her money and get out now. But I suspect it’s hard to turn your back on a profession that gave you so much money, so young, and for so little work. And that’s too bad, because I don’t see her surviving in that business long-term.

  49. Craig says:

Party girl? All she did is go the the MTV movie awards. That’s the first event she has been at in months. The last event was the BAFTAS in February. Before that is a complete unknown. Party girl. Don’t worry about her fans. We’ve been reading how great she is to her fans while filming her new movie in Pittsburgh. If you did your homework she addressed her Lancome deal just a few weeks ago. She said nothing she does will ever be bigger than Potter that includes Lancome. She admitted to being naive about wanting
normality and it’s not going to happen because of her career. She
has made peace with it. Why do you think the girl openly carries around geeky self help books? Because she’s not going to be a Lohan.

  50. LBeees says:

Team Emma. I actually love the shoes and dress, especially the top detailing. It could be a little longer, for my sense of modesty, but it certainly looks very nice on her.

She’s growing up, and I think people are mistaking her recent photographs and “out” persona as chic hobnobbery, when in fact she is now growing into the American movie social scene. Does that make sense?

Whatevs. I see nothing improper going on her. She looks nice, acts demure, and I certainly haven’t heard any diva stories about her. And there aren’t any drunk/druggie photos coming out about her, are there?

  51. Dana M says:

Her dress would have looked better without the cap sleeves.

  52. Maddox says:

Nothing wrong with going out and having fun, she’s a pretty girl with lots of money and a certain level of fame. If it were me, my behavior would be much more scandalous. I only wish she would stop pretending to be annoyed by the attention she’s seeking.

  53. Crash2GO2 says:

It’s not a mullet, she’s letting her hair grow out.

I’m sorta disappointed that she’s dropped out of school and is now cavorting on the red carpet. But I’m still hopeful…

  54. Aly says:

I haven’t seen or heard any embarrassing drunk, walk of shame stories about her college life. The worst thing I could find was her holding a beer. LiLo was doing much worse before she was even 18.

  55. kasper says:

apparently there is now a “Kasper” on this site as well. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

  56. Momo says:

I don’t think this is the whole story. I am pretty sure she was talking about the fact that men were intimidated by the circus around her to want to be with her. I think that is perfectly fine for a 21 year old to complain about men. Actresses do it all the time. Not a new thing.

  57. Emerentia says:

I also don’t think she’s the next Lohan, more like the next Orlando Bloom, starting at the top and ending as “the friend of”.

  58. almond says:

The comparisons with Linnocent are ridiculous. She’s not anywhere close to what Lohan had going on even early on in her destructive phase.

But she does lack perspective. She has been complaining about the fame she has for years. So when she finally finishes shooting the HP films she takes a high profile modelling contract? Goes to the opening of any and every envelope (MTV movie awards, really?)? So there are discrepancies between what she says and what she does. Her PR image does not coincide with what we see of her.

That doesn’t make her Linnocent and it certainly doesn’t mean that she should be judged for being young and inexperienced. But she can at least own up to it. “I like to party know, I wanna enjoy me youth. I’ll figure out what I want to do later.” Or she could say nothing at all; she certainly doesn’t owe anyone any explanation. But if that’s the case and she wants to keep her personal life private (as she keeps saying), than she better stop giving “woe-is-me interviews”. She can’t have her cake and eat it too.

She’s loaded, she made much more money than any of us will ever see, her parents aren’t famewhores themselves and she could pursue anything she liked. I’m sure she gives to charities -who wouldn’t when being that rich?- and is financially responsible. Don’t react like she’s the next Lohan but don’t prop her up on a pedestal either.

  59. Angie says:

@ Kasper: No, I’m not a hater, I loved Chloe in Kick ass and Let me in, and I thought she was cute. Ok, fame hungry is a too strong word (but I don’t speak english fluently so sometimes I struggle to find the right word and this term popped in my head).
She just seems more like the typical child star with a stage mom. The way she talks, she seems more rehearsed, the way she tries to work the red carpet (even if she is a teen)…. It’s more 14 going on 40. It’s when I see pictures like at the comedy award. But it”s just an impression, I can be wrong, she just a teen after all.
When Emma was the same age she seemed more natural and a normal teen as her family in not in the industry.

  60. Carolyn says:

I’m Ok with her going out & having fun…not with her being a pal of Harvey W…we all know what he gets up to. Hermione no!!!!!!!

  61. sisi says:

I think that now that the movies are done making she is at an state in her life that she never experienced. There was always the next film, the next photoshoot, the next responsibility, and right now is the first time that she is free in her life ever. The first time that she can do whatever she wants. That she tries out all kinds of things and does stuff she likes and seems a little unfocused seems understandable. I’ll give her a break for a while.

Keira Knightley also had a phase where she could be insufferable, and she turned out okay, not Lohanesque at all.

  62. chris says:

LOL wtf? There are plenty of other things to become once leaving college than becoming Lindsay Lohan. It’s not just 2 extremes.

  63. curmudgeon says:

That is not a mullet. Any hair cut you don’t like does not qualify as a mullet.

  64. bored says:

I don’t think there’s much of a story here. She’s just a young actress out promoting herself and her movies.

  65. MJ says:

I agree with Ari! She’d look cute dolled up like Lisbeth Salander (I hope that doesn’t incite any hate from you Steig Larssen superfans!).

I don’t see any problems here. I think she’s cute, poised and hasn’t been papped barfing or flashing biscuit. Attending all of these events is probably a contractual obligation of her Lancome spokesmodel deal.

  66. Kim says:

She needs to realize looking like a 12 yr old boy isnt going to attract the kind of men she wants to date – haha!

  67. DottieDot says:

Hey don’t bring the South down with mullets! Mullets are everywhere!

  68. skeptical says:

what’s with the lilo comparisons? Wait, what?
Um, no. Emma hasn’t been to rehab some 6 or 7 times, or fallen drunk out of clubs at 4am or done cocaine-fueled chases down PCH or any of that.
All I see is a very very young woman who’s annoyed at the constant stalking. Try to remember that the paps hunt her. I think even Daniel once said (about the paps) that they were trying to get a shot of Emma’s knickers and that he was glad he didn’t have to deal with that and he was sorry for his female costar.
And being seen at events is probably part of her fronting for Lancome.

  69. Anonymous says:

There is absolutely NO comparison between Lindsey and Emma. Lindsey is white trash and Emma is all kinds of awesome. And her hair is growing out. Of course its going to be awkward for a while..sheesh.

  70. kate says:

I am glad people are opening their eyes about this girl. I used to think she was well grounded and better than most actresses of her age but that’s not true. Emma Watson is a fake untalented little brat.I’ve always been a fan of Harry potter books and movies so i am pretty familiar with Emma as a celebrity. I don’t think it’s fair to compare her to lindsay lohan but Emma is without a doubt not as perfect as people think she is. She has a cute english accent but that’s about it. She can’t act to save her life. The 2 only expressions she’s ever had in the HP movies are : angry and bored.
And now she wants to have a career outside HP but since she has not talent she chose her mentor and who is he? Harvey Weistein : her 2 next movies : the perks of being a wallflower and my week with Marylin are both produced by Harvey. Remember the rumors Harvey weistein / gretchen Mol ?

She has always complained about being famous but since she’s cute with a cute accent no one minds it . She said this about American people a few years ago ” People in the UK are very respectful. Americans tend to scream, to clap, to make a big deal about it, and it can be EMBARRASSING .” Considering how American people love her , i would say Emma is also very ungrateful and whiny.

  71. john says:

She can’t act and her portrayal of hermione is OK not great. Of course she has been playing that role since she’s 10 so there is nothing impressive about her. She has not talent and no personality ,just another pretty face.
And stop with the try-hard pose, It sucks and it’s so Maria Carey.

Geez this girl is so generic.
