Taylor Swift wore a ‘Stevie Knicks’ tee to watch the Knicks win Game 4

After the San Antonio Spurs beat the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Knicks fans went into Madison Square Garden and literally burned sage. Knicks-fan witches were doing spells to cast out the evil spirits after Donald Trump napped through Game 3. Well, it worked. The Knicks pulled off a miracle in Game 4, and now the Knicks are three games to one against the Spurs. All they need is to win one more game and they’ll have their first championship since the 1970s.

For last night’s MSG game, tons of celebrities were in attendance. Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, Mariska Hargitay, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, Hailey Bieber, Wu-Tang!!! All were there. So was Taylor Swift and two of the Haim sisters, Alana and Este. Not only did they sit courtside, they coordinated in specially-made t-shirts reading “Stevie Knicks,” “Knickole Kidman” and “Knickelback.” Travis Kelce didn’t come, he probably had other things to do, so Taylor had a girls’ night. She was also hanging out with Mariska, who seemed overwhelmed that the Knicks managed to pull off a come-from-behind win. I’m including some cool Knicks stuff below.

It was an insane 4th quarter! I was doing an online “watch party” with some friends, and we were going NUTS! That tip-in, of the last shot… just in the *KNICK* of time…. with ONE SECOND on the clock.. OMG!!! What a game!!!!

  2. Frida’s Xolo says:

Meh, I hate those shirts and would have preferred to see real NYer Emmy Rossum in those seats, she sat courtside during the lean years (first quarter of the 21st century) but since she had her second baby, hasn’t been around as much. Otherwise the Wu-Tang was there because Wu-Tang, like the Knicks, are for the children! LFGNYK! GO NEW YORK GO NEW YORK GO!

    • Smalltowngirl says:

Taylor Swift was also going to Knicks games in those years, she just stopped after 2016 when she stopped being seen anywhere.

“”I love them, though. Why does that matter?” Swift said at the time when it was mentioned that the Knicks were playing poorly.”

Knicks games were the only sport event she ever attended prre-Travis.

      • Frida’s Xolo says:

Emmy Rossum is a real New Yorker who was courtside way before Taylor Swift. Have a great day! LFGNYK

    • Jegede says:

      Agreed.

Emmy has been ride or die, from Day 1!!!!!

      • Amanda says:

Ohhhh….the fan police are here!!! lol
Give it a rest…who cares who is “ride or die” … a true fan welcomes ALL fans, new and old.

Pitting women against women for no reason is just tired. “I’d rather have seen X woman there instead of Y woman” makes no sense given 1) it wasn’t the only seat available and 2) X woman wasn’t excluded so Y woman could be seated there in her place, so there’s no reason to name drop one famous woman as better than another, even more famous, woman to make your point.

“I miss seeing Emmy Rossum there. It would have been awesome if she could have been there for that moment, too!” would have sufficed.

To paraphrase TS’s parlance, it includes Emmy Rossum in a narrative she has no desire to be included in, an oppositional “who is the better/truer female celebrity fan?” narrative that didn’t even exist between these women or in this conversation until YOU added it.

And it’s a narrative you seem to be really committed to for some reason: when a commenter pointed out that TS has her own, legitimate, fan history with (and established loyalty to) the team, you again drag Emmy Rossum into it as “better.”

What we need to do is BE better. Two famous women can be fans of something without us pitting them against each other and taking sides. And, honestly, really famous women (especially ones who are genuinely successful due to art they create or businesses they have built), whether we like them or not, deserve better than to be constantly put in comparison and rivalry — invented when need be — with the nearest comparable woman. I thought we were over that.

The Chiefs have mandatory mini camp this week, so Travis is in KC working.

I’m sorry but I could care less about the celebrities. Don’t care if you’re Chalamet, Spike Lee, Taylor or whoever. I know they are Knicks fans too, but this game, those courtside seats should go to ordinary NYers. Move those NYers from the outside watch parties to those courtside seats. Make the celebrities go to the watch parties. I’m so tired of these sports being only affordable to those with millions (I’m looking at you World Cup and FIFA too). Give these sports back to the community. I am beyond ecstatic about the Knicks. I love this for the city, but these finals, these victories at the Garden should go to the everyday New Yorker fan who can’t afford a seat at the Garden.

    • Frida’s Xolo says:

Seats to the left of the scorer’s table (when viewing from tv) are for paying fans so seats belonging to Spike, Ben Stiller, Tracy Morgan, and Timothée Chalamet can’t be “given” away. There’s plenty to dislike about the way MSG handles events (pricing, probably illegal surveillance, invite-only seats dependent upon their relationship with James Dolan, banning Charles Oakley from the Garden) let alone the roster for the past 27 years but giving away tickets that people paid for is not it.

  5. FancyPants says:

Can women become impotent? Because that’s what happened to me after seeing Timothee run off with no shirt and his pants sagging. Was Mariska wearing a Knicks pun shirt too, or was her shirt just the same color?

  6. Smalltowngirl says:

Taylor gave it to her mid-way through the game and she changed into it! Which is pretty cute.

Taylor has a cat named Olivia Benson and Mariska has a cat named Karma after the Taylor Swift song (Karma is a cat purring in my lap).

  7. Nanea says:

So good to see that the smudging helped get the stench of Felon47 out — and the bad juju of the people who accompanied him too.
    Knicks in five!

And AOC was so happy about it that she tweeted in all caps.

  8. I ❤️ Stevie. I’d also like to see a Knick Rhodes shirt. 🙂

  9. Dutch says:

Also fun were the pics of Taylor & Co. seen seated courtside with Scooter Braun and Sydney Sweeney seated several rows behind.

  10. QuiteContrary says:

I have a soft spot for Taylor because she’s such a dork.

  11. Chaine says:

She annoys me because maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like she’s suddenly jumping on a bandwagon. Can’t stand Timotheèëe either, but at least he has been actively presence so his fandom seems authentic

    • Smalltowngirl says:

She went to games as far back as 2014. She was once asked about being a Knicks fan when they sucked and said she liked them anyway.

She just really limited her public appearances for a long time and now she is staring to do normal stuff again. But if you look up Taylor Swift Knicks, it goes back over a decade..

      • Mario says:

I looked it up and you’re right. She’s definitely not jumping on a bandwagon. She’s liked basketball and the Knicks for years, and it’s not been tied to whether they are winning or whether she has a man who likes basketball. She’s a tall American girl, so she probably played basketball at some point (whether she was any good or did so at a competitive level isn’t necessary to become a fan).

  12. Normades says:

Not a Swiftie but she does seem to be good mojo for her teams at the matches she attends (unlike you know who).

    • Mario says:

Yes! You know who is quite demonstrably poison for the home team whenever he makes an appearance!
I actually think it’s not that crazy either. When that man goes to a game, he makes it all about himself, he makes his presence known, the security plus-up and media attention far exceed when his predecessors made similar appearances, and he has made it a clear strategy to co-opt sports in America (particularly winning teams and big events) as something that is “his” to bulk up his own legend. It sucks all the air out of the room, adds delays and splits focus for the fans and athletes, and changes the whole “home town advantage” in a real way. And we see what happens. Not even Scooter pulls focus like that and that’s why he, while being problematic so many other ways, isn’t a straight up curse like you know who.

  13. minnow29 says:

Wasn’t she just at a game a couple weeks ago, cheering for the Cavaliers? And Travis was chugging beers until he fell asleep?

    • Ms single malt says:

Kelce loves his hometown Cavaliers. They attended the Cavalier/Knicks game. My bf loves Buffalo Bills and I love KC. Not all relationships share a favorite sports team.

    • Anare says:

LMAO! I am rooting for the Spurs so the game last night was a heartbreaker. Saw TS whipping one of those Haim sisters around like she was a rag doll. Poor thing is probably at the chiropractor today. I get it, all the Knicks fans were in a frenzy, but TS always impresses me as being stuck at age 17.

    • Truthiness says:

Travis wasn’t literally asleep and he chugged all of one beer for the crowd. If you know basketball his original home team Cleveland Cavaliers were getting swept 4 games in a row and there wasn’t a damn thing the Cavaliers could get going to stop it. True fans can’t leave early but there was no big contest happening on the floor to watch, it was a pose.

  14. Day Drinker says:

From what I read Taylor wasn’t rooting against the Knicks , Travis was. The comments today are very different from what I’m used to seeing here so all I’ll say is I wish she had been in traditional Knicks garb. Better yet, hire a local small business that could create specialized ones and give them a shout out to drum up some business for them. Maybe she did that with the one she wore, I really don’t know. I’m originally from Connecticut and grew up a Knicks fan so please don’t come after me!

    • Truthiness says:

I’m not a Swifty but isn’t she hip deep in wedding planning and promoting a song in a movie?

You never know what juju you’ll get with sporting apparel. I LOVE the care Spike Lee takes with his Knicks outfits, for game 3 he had a Knicks jersey on that said Pope Leo, number 14, signed by the pope himself and then the chaotic Felon, the beast from hell showed up and ruined everything. Everyone’s vibe plummeted, he took away a ton of space bc “security,” he was crashing everyone’s night in a town that hates him and a 13 game win streak snapped. Ben Stiller and his wife Christine burned their game 3 clothes right away.

My point is that you never know with carefully curated sports clothes, if you run into bad mojo, you might want to throw it out. Maybe Spike can get holy water and a blessing to save his Pope jersey, maybe say a novena on it, I dunno.

  15. Normades says:

Somebody on the socials said Scooter and Sydney sitting in the 4th row were in the celebrity nose bleeds and I thought that was pretty damn funny. I’m sure Taylor appreciated that her nemesis and his gf didn’t get 1st row seats. She’s definitely petty like that. But hey she did hug Kylie!
