This past month has been full of interesting developments in Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s decade-long catastrophe. While they’re finally legally divorced, Brad’s lawsuit and Angelina’s countersuit – all over Chateau Miraval – continue to march towards a trial. Angelina’s children were not only victims of Brad and witnesses to what he did to Angelina on that plane in 2016, they’ve also been witnesses to what Brad has done to her since then. And it looks like ALL of those kids want nothing to do with Brad or his name. Brad didn’t even go to Knox’s high school graduation last weekend, and we’ve learned in the past week that both Maddox and Zahara have filed to legally change their names and drop “Pitt.” In Touch Weekly exclusively reported Zahara’s name-change application, but other outlets are now confirming the news. Brad’s team has dropped a quote into all of the new reports as well.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara has officially filed to have “Pitt” removed from her last name. In documents obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, June 9, the 21-year-old filed a petition for a change of name in the Superior Court of California. In Touch was first to report the news.
PEOPLE reached out to reps for Jolie and Pitt.
Zahara’s filing dates back to April 28 and came just days after her brother, 24-year-old Maddox Jolie, also filed to legally remove his father’s last name following their parents’ split in 2016 after two years of marriage and over 10 years as a couple. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024. Jolie, 51, and Pitt, 62, share six children together: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 17.
The Spelman graduate is now the former couple’s third child to file to legally drop “Pitt” from their last name after Maddox and Shiloh.
“It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicize their successful alienation of their children from the other parent,” says a source close to Pitt.
Poor, pitiful huffy Brad. And he’s dumb as a bag of hair too – this isn’t Angelina “repeatedly publicizing” anything. In 2024, Shiloh went out and hired a lawyer on her 18th birthday to change her name. Zahara and Maddox simply did the same, went out and hired lawyers and filed the documents. Name-change applications are public records, that’s how TMZ and In Touch Weekly and everybody else got these stories. Speaking of publicity, TMZ and Us Weekly got similarly huffy quotes from Brad’s team, like this one in Us: “It’s unfortunate when a parent deliberately alienates their children from the other.” I don’t know, I think it’s more unfortunate when a deadbeat father won’t even attend his kids’ graduations or congratulate them on their scholastic achievements.

Any alienation came from the children witnessing his behaviour. He is the parent being described even down to the part about publicising it. He’s giving these stories more air by adding these comments.
And by my count, it is *repeatedly* Brad Pitt’s team or friends who bad mouth Angelina in the press.
So it’s a little hard to buy the “parental alienation” line when his team is doing the most to publicly trash talk the other parent.
He is an abuser, he will never take accountability for his victims pain.
So when outlets run “sources close to Brad” blaming Angelina while glossing over the allegations that caused this family rupture, they prioritise celebrity PR over balanced journalism. They dress up PR as neutrality. Good for Zahara. Good for all of the children choosing the identities that feel right to them.
Too bad, so sad.
When I was a kid and would ask to stop to go to the bathroom while out, the adults would tell me that I should have thought of that before I left home.
Which is kinda cold, but not wrong.

Since we’ve all had to plumb the depths of depraved characters this last decade or thereabouts, there’s my own theory: narcissists interpret everything they observe around them as reflecting on them personally. They take it all personally. They don’t believe other people are endowed with independent agency. Or that it’s just a relative world and things get flukey. They don’t have any register for a shrug, or to live and let live. It all has to be a plot. This is why so many narcissists tend to paranoid fixation. They also tend to project. So projection in this case is Brad attributing the kids’ free choice to disconnect from him to machinations instigated by Angelina. Who as likely as not has just seen this and shrugged. If he wanted a relationship with the kids, having been divorced by their mother, he could make it happen. Others have.
Exactly! Also narcissists hold onto perceived slights, insults and grudges like lifeboats in a turbulent sea. The adult kids dropping his name? Insult! Also, revenge is a philosophy of life for narcissists. They can’t let go of grudges nor self defeating revenge fantasies and plots, so are in a never ending loop of self pity. Sad Deadbeat Brad is a walking cliche in an ever growing list of them. Eventually, he will regret needlessly destroying his relationship with his children – and with him refusing to change his behavior or get help, things might have already reached the point of no return.
This is just a reminder of how many couples split in the world and just coparent. His kids wont even allow him to coparent, which says a lot about him and how bad he was. Nobody’s alienating him, he’s just cancelled because of the abuse. Brad’s PR piece is weak rehashed sht. May the kids continue to heal from the abuse the way they need to, publicly or privately. Brad, you’re cooked.
“Allow him to coparent?” There’s nothing that suggests that Brad wants to coparent, or parent, or even be a significant presence in his kids’ lives. Where’s the article with pictures of Brad showing up at graduations, school events and significant performances — and being turned away? Or the stories about Brad showering the kids with opportunities pand detailing his efforts to reach out to the now-adult kids? Nada. Bupkis. Nothing at all. Whining Brad doesn’t even care enough about parenting his kids to lie about it. Instead, he’s passively and publicly sharing his “hope” that the kids will magically extol him as a loving Dad — without him having to do a g-d thing, including rein in his willingness to exploit the kids. Yeah, stories like this are what any kid with an abusive Dad wants to see in the press — right? Ugh. Now that the kids are adults, he’s publicly spewing out his bile with them at the focus — and nobody cares enough about poor whining Dad Brad to make him see that these drops by his “close sources” are making him look even worse than the creepy wretch that he’s already revealed himself to be.
So yeah, it’s public record???? These kids aren’t hiring paparazzi to get photos of them signing the paper work. But good job to Brad and his team on trying to accuse those kids of seeking out publicity for….check notes…filling out paperwork that is part of the public record. Way to prove why they’re doing what they’re doing. He and his team would be wise to stop antagonizing those kids.
I think if the Jolie children did an interview or a tell-all book, then Brad would came after them in the same way he is continually coming after Angelina.
I know people on this site have speculated that the children might do an interview when they are all legally adults – but I don’t think something like that will happen because that would shatter the people that this family has worked to achieve for the last decade. Maybe one will write a book after Brad is dead but I don’t think any of them will speak what he did to the family while he still lives because he’s clearly got a mean and vengeful streak.
That makes sense. But the way he keeps pushing, whew, it’s almost like he’s goading them. So yeah, maybe he does want that so he can hit back even more through the press .
I agree. These children have seen his true colors many times. They know what he’s capable of. They just want to live their own lives, not get involved in this circus Pitt is putting on.
I don’t think he gives a damn if the oldest three drop his name, other than the fact it makes him look bad. I’ve always had a suspicion that he only recognizes the biological three as his real children, so them dropping his name is probably hitting him harder than Zahara and Maddox doing it.
The pics for this post made me realize Brad is trying to look like Pedro Pascal. He’s not succeeding.

It’s unfortunate when a parent deliberately gets drunk and hits a partner, or worse, attempts to strangle her in front of the children.
It’s unfortunate when a parent somehow thinks that DV is NBD, but legally dropping the name of a violent parent is so bad.
It’s unfortunate when a parent still hasn’t learned to keep his mouth shut because speaking out continues to hurt his kids.
IMO, if he had not persisted with this lawsuit over the Château, constantly dragging Angelina through the legal coals for 10 years, at least some of the kids would eventually have softened to him, and he would have a better relationship with them now.
This lawsuit is the least bad thing he has ever done to them.
Via that lawsuit he attempted to extract a permanent NDA from Jolie about his behavior. That lawsuit is an ongoing abuse situation where he’s trying to force her to keep silent about what he did to her and their children for years.
I don’t know. That plane episode lasted for hours and hours. They were terrified and trapped. That isn’t something that just fades into the background of memory. Those kids are close. He didn’t just attack Angie, he attacked at least some of them too. And that was just the one time we know about. Who knows what else was happening at home that we don’t know about.
Brad clearly felt that he should just be forgiven without doing the hard and humbling work forgiveness requires. Including getting and staying sober.
As I recall, in addition to continuing to go after Angie, he also forced his children to be alone with him before he had established the conditions for forgiveness and before they were ready.
There were comments from his side at the time that ‘he didn’t hit him (one of the boys) in the face’ iirc. What a defence.
Also, it’s worth remembering that as terrifying as the violence Brad perpetrated on his wife and children on that plane was, that’s just the one incident that made it into the public record. There could be years, a whole lifetime even, of threatening or controlling behaviour that we just never saw or heard about. The reason for Brad’s vindictive lawsuit is all related to financial control and coercion, but he was/is also trying to silence his own family, too.
As a parent whose ex indulged in parental alienation with the one of our three who was old enough to be manipulated, I can report that – anecdotally – when that kid grows up and figures out how badly they were gaslit, things don’t go well for the alienator.
Kids watch what you do, and those kids watched one parent stick by them. They watched the other do whatever it was he did and continues to do. There’s a lot we didn’t and don’t see, but Pitt’s absence from even showing up and standing in the back at the recent milestone events in Zahara & Knox’s lives pretty much says everything I need to know about how invested he was in rebuilding any kind of relationship with his children.
I think Angelina has raised those kids to be super classy in that they haven’t really spoken out about Brad publically and his behaviour towards them and their mother over the years. I do wonder if there is a bit of a sibling plan playing out between all of them and they’ve been waiting for the youngest to turn 18. I kinda feel like if Brad keeps going with his bullsh!t and whatever happens with the lawsuit, the kids might do an interview…and that’s going to be a disaster for Brad. Kinda mad that he has continued to fcuk around with his PR games over the years…I think he will eventually find out thanks to those kids.
The way he’s okay with taking no accountability and instead is trying to turn himself into a victim is kind of scary. These are your adult kids. They are going to read this stuff. They know these constant denials and attack on Angelina will just deepen the estrangement yet they don’t care.

Brad’s side has often pushed the “parental alienation” narrative, but at some point people have to ask what the common denominator is. These children are older now. Zahara just graduated from Spelman and used Jolie publicly. That looks like a personal choice, not a tabloid talking point..

Maybe if he expressed even an iota of sympathy or contrition for assaulting their mother in a drunken rage on a plane in front of them, they’d be more amenable to a reconciliation. But what do I know????!?!!?
Maybe, but I doubt it. My guess is he wanted Angie back, but she was done. She was done with him but she wanted him to reconcile with his kids. Every public filing she made showed those efforts. He, on the other hand, couldn’t be bothered. He didn’t want to follow what the courts wanted him to do, which just shows he didn’t care the kids. Never did.
I find it so telling that these “sources” are never saying things like “Brad is hurt, but nothing they do could ever make him stop loving his children.” It’s never about how much he loves them or cares for them, and always about how he wants to own them.

I could write a full-on trashy romance novel based on this entire photo series. Anyhoo—why does he (and his PR team) even care what Zahara is up to? He didn’t even know that Zahara was going to Spelman, when prompted by the media. Meanwhile, he’s still booking roles, still working, still very much thriving—because mediocre, abusive white hetero males always fall up. Just to deflect attention away from two children’s graduations, which deadbeat father refused to attend, instead he did this paris staged desperate desperado PR antics as if he didn’t care. Yes we know he doesn’t but he’s soo openly shamless as so is the thirsty attention seeker girlfriend with her designer make over paid by him. I find them both repulsive individuals.
This latest girlfriend seriously thinks she got a major catch because he’s Brad Pitt and is making her famous and will get her work as a model as she is now chasing as a career after she’s stopped faking as a jewellery designer which she never was. Fact is this man is still a domestic violence perpratrator who assulted his children and their mother, he’s still slanderous towards them. This is not a great trait to have. But seeing how smug the young girlfriend and her family are they sure think they hit the lottery.

The FBI investigated and closed the case without charges, but “no charges” does not erase what Jolie said happened.
Maybe he should have thought of being a better father and husband (or ex-husband) before being all insulted that your kids are dropping your name. Post-divorce, he could have stopped drinking, gotten therapy, talked to his pastor, whatever, and actually CHANGED. He could have apologized to his whole family and made small, consistent gestures of mending fences, showing love. But no, none of that for him. Lastly, his wig (or hair plugs) is atrocious! Really?
I don’t think any of Jolie-Pitt kids will comment on Brad, ever. They seem to have perfected the rare art of never giving him air and just getting on with their authentic lives. I wish them all the best!

OMG. Who does his PR? I am not in PR but OMG this is not hard. This could have been a great redemption story. Hollywood loves redemption stories. He was even halfway there admitting his alcohol abuse and that he did something he should not have done on that plane. „I deeply regret the way I behaved in my family over the past years, I am profoundly sorry about my behavior which has affected them so negatively. I am working hard on fixing my issues. I hope one day Angie and the kids will find a way to forgive me.“ This should have been the consistent message starting from 2016. Any point in time after that a similar message with a little more attrition for the behavior following 2016 would still have worked. „It was a dark period in my life. I am embarrassed by the kind of person I had become. I am grateful to Angie for raising the kids so well and sorry for all I did to complicate their lives.“ Instead they just keep digging deeper. This is horrible horrible messaging. I mean maybe this will work for Shiloh and Knox but who believes that you can successfully alienate a 14-year old? That would have been Maddox age.

I saw an article about this situation that was on my Apple News feed. Can’t remember the source. It was so strenuously defending BP, saying he was iced out and AJ turned the kids against him, no one told him when the graduation was, he is so hurt, etc. No where in the article was there any mention of why AJ filed for divorce and protected the kids. Nothing! It was just all poor Brad, stand up guy, loved his kids, sad about being made the bad guy, AJ out to ruin him, blah blah blah. It was stunningly bad PR. Makes BP look worse than ever. What a POS. Obvious to see why these kids want nothing to do with him.
