Weinergate: married congressman admits lying, sexting with 6 women

After married congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) posted a photo to his Twitter account of a man’s erect p3nis in underwear, an apparent direct message to a college student that was accidentally posted publicly, he tried to claim that his “Facebook” account was hacked. This was despite the fact that the apparent hack occurred on his Twitter account. When reporters asked him about the scandal, he repeatedly changed the subject, insisted that it was the work of a prankster trying to detract from the issues at hand, and wouldn’t directly answer whether the boxer briefs and the equipment posted on Twitter were his. Now that more women have come forward with evidence of sexting with Weiner, he’s finally owning up to the photo, and has admitted that it was him. In a press conference he said that “the picture was of me and I sent it,” and that he’s “exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years.”

At least two of those “six” women have come out already, one to ABC News and another to The National Enquirer [via Radar], and of course there are more photos of this douche. The woman who shared her story to ABC news, a 26 year-old single mother from Texas, also gave some photos to Breitbart of Weiner showing off his shaved chest and mugging for the camera. You can watch a video with her above in which she discusses their online flirtation (while she’s chomping gum the entire time), which began in April of this year. Here’s more on this story, from ABC News:

Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York said today he has engaged in “several inappropriate” electronic relationships with six women over three years, and that he publicly lied about a photo of himself sent over Twitter to a college student in Seattle over a week ago.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Weiner said. “The picture was of me, and I sent it.”

The announcement came as ABC News prepared to release an interview with Meagan Broussard, a 26-year-old single mother from Texas who provided dozens of photos, emails, Facebook messages and cell phone call logs that she says chronicle a sexually-charged electronic relationship with Weiner that rapidly-evolved for more than a month, starting on April 20, 2011.

ABC News reached out to Weiner earlier today for comment about his possible ties to Broussard, but he did not respond to requests for an interview. At a press conference later, Weiner confirmed Broussard was one of the women with whom he sexted.

Broussard’s story had threatened to expose the secret online life of one of the House Democrats’ most popular members, and a man many considered a leading candidate for mayor of New York City.

It also raised new questions about Weiner’s explanation for how a photo of a man’s groin area ended up on his public Twitter feed on May 27. Today the congressman said he accidentally sent the image to a woman, Gennette Cordova, who was following him on Twitter, as a joke.

“I just chuckled,” Broussard, a nursing student, said of her reaction to Weiner’s initial response to the Twitter incident. “It would be one thing if he came out and said, ‘Hey, so what?’ But now he’s saying he got hacked?”

Broussard said she received the same photo of a man’s crotch on May 18 in an email from a man who she then believed was Weiner.

[From ABC News]

This guy made $174,000 a year of taxpayer money with hundreds of thousands more spent on his office, staff, expenses, etc. Instead of reading bills, passing laws and figuring out to make life better for the people he represented, he was wasting time stroking his d*ck and ego online. He’s not resigning yet, although there are plenty of calls for him to do so.

Weiner and his wife of less than one year, Huma Abedin. He claims she’s not leaving him.

He reminds me of Adrian Brody.

  2. brin says:

This guy is so arrogant, not to mention a liar. He should be run out of office if he doesn’t resign.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

*Gag* What a scum bag. A clumsy one at that, accidentally posted his own penis shot to Twitter. I wish I would have been following him just for this one moment. What a douche. There is no way in hell I would stay married to him. Despite the fact he is a good congressman, this just makes him look awful.

  4. Quest says:

He is right up there with the Sperminator. Sick pervs.

  5. Salina says:

He’s an arrogant pervert. I hope he goes. His recklessness could definitely affect his performance because it puts his voting on risk for being influenced by these women possibly having leverage over him. If Lee has to go for one pic on craigslist, weiner should totally leave.

  6. CandyKay says:

Pretty wife, too. She’s one of Hilary Clinton’s top aides.

Supposedly he was seen as a good candidate for the next mayor of NYC.

Amazing how these guys spoil great careers for a quick cheap thrill. It’s like a self-destructive tendency.

  7. Kelley says:

Except that he did “read bills, pass laws and figure out to make life better for the people he represented.” The 9/11 responders bill is perfect example of that.

If Weiner was a loser representative that could not accomplish anything anyway, why would anybody care about the scandal? The disappointment is that he really WAS a good representative on political matters.

  8. whybenice says:

    Weiner is a dick.

  9. viper says:

LMFAO!I don’t have to even make a joke his last name does it all for me.

  10. guesty says:

    He is so gross.

  11. BamaGuy says:

I am so disappointed in him. I really admired him, he is a leading liberal democrat and very intelligent. BUT OMG how could he be so stupid to have done this – why didn’t he think maybe one of the women may have been playing him hoping to sting him, which is just what happened. Now he will likely have to resign in shame. A big loss to the democratic party. Sad.

  12. CT says:

We’re just mad at him for lying about it, right?

Because I don’t care about the rest of it. He didn’t sleep with any of these women, they were all over of the age of consent, and some of this was going on long before he was married. Personally, dong photos aren’t to my taste, but I’m sure there are some people who enjoy them.

Live and let live. But don’t effing lie about it.

  13. embertine says:

I think a little too much has been made of this. Yes, it was careless of him and pretty sleazy, particularly if he is recently married. But honestly, has it stopped him doing his job? Do you think politicians stay up all night doing politics?

P.S. His surname is just classic. Too, too classic.

  14. fabgrrl says:

Sad. This guy was my favorite NY Congressman, after Eric Massa (I live in NY state).

  15. Leticia says:

I’m sorry for his beautiful wife, Huma. Seriously, she is gorgeous and she should leave him pronto.

I am also waiting for someone to bring up Bush or Palin…

  16. Stephie says:

Guess he didn’t learn from the last idiot caught for doing this kind of thing.

  17. DenG says:

He’s no more sleazy than the women who know who he is and can’t wait to profit from the sleaziness. Human beings can rarely be truthful about relationships because we want to hide our faults–but we’re outraged when a partner does the same? Humans–go figure.

  18. Wif says:

“Instead of reading bills, passing laws and figuring out to make life better for the people he represented, he was wasting time stroking his d*ck and ego online.”

Are you implying that he was doing this at work? Because I think you can have a principled work life, and still be kinky in your off hours. My only issue with this is that he initially lied. The rest is between him and his wife.

  19. Liana says:

Well, now that he admitted it, I can say with a clean conscience that he’s a lying liar who lies and for the lies, he needs to go. Couldn’t stand the man’s arrogance in the first place. I wasn’t going to hang him before because the whole story wasn’t out, but it’s coming out now.

  20. Salina says:

@wif he did do it at work one of the women would call him at his office. The dailymail has the nsfw transcripts. Tmz says he tried to get one of the women to lie for him last week. Hes only sorry he got caught.

  21. lucy2 says:

It’s a shame, he was actually doing some good for those he represented. Now this will forever overshadow all of that – what stupid (and gross) thing to do.
Unless they break the law or use govt resources for this sort of stuff, I don’t think anyone should be forced out, including the Craiglist guy. But if you’re actions cause too much distraction to get anything done, then resigning is probably a wise move. Otherwise it’s up to the voters at the next election.

  22. Dorothy says:

    What a weiner! 🙁

  23. Celebitchy says:

I hear what you guys are saying about how he was a good congressman and it’s a shame. I’m saying he did waste time on this at work, not that he didn’t do anything else. One of the women interviewed on Radar said that he called her from a phone at work, that she called the number back and heard a recording that it was an outgoing-only congressional line. The woman interviewed on ABC News said that he was texting with her during the day, and now there’s even more evidence, on Radar, about how he was sexting while he was at work. So maybe he got a lot done, but he was still wasting time and resources doing this.

  24. anjasmomma says:

We should be angry with the congressman for lying. Other than that the only person wronged is his wife.

  25. aenflex says:

He and every other congressman. Men are pigs, and women are gold-diggers and/or attention whores. If no one wanted his dick pics, he wouldn’t be in this position right now.

  26. embertine says:

As someone who’s reading Celebitchy at work, I’m not really in a position to judge. 😉

  27. Nancy says:

    Jeez what a disgusting pervert!

  28. tango says:

Well we knew he did it from the beginning otherwise he would’ve welcomed a hacking investigation.

I’m sure he did some of this while on the work clock. I don’t think it’s enough to force him resign but it will cause him some problems after the ethics investigation is done. I do feel sorry for his wife. During their courtship and after marriage, he’s tweeting, calling and texting all these college aged women looking for some sort of thrill. I would think as more details immerge, she might not be so willing to stand by her man.

  29. the original bellaluna says:

OMGoodness! *hang on, have to put on pearls to clutch…are Tahitian Black Pearls politically correct?*

You mean a person in an official government capacity has taken advantage of his position to do naughty sex-things?

Well I am shocked and chagrined!!!

    /sarcasm

Unfortunately, this is de rigueur for politicians and men in power EVERYWHERE. It’s DISGUSTING. It’s not right. But there it is.

That’s why we need more good, strong women in office. (No “thingie” to play with when we should be doing more important stuff, like making sure our troops don’t die in no-win situations and the children of this country don’t go to bed hungry. You know, THE IMPORTANT STUFF.)
    *oops! sarcasm back “on”, apparently*

  30. jess says:

Haha embertine, I was thinking the same thing. Like who haven’t done some sexting during work.

  31. mia girl says:

@embertine – You and me both!

  32. DGO says:

Disgusting, sickening, stupid, all that stuff, but it’s also low-down that reporters are going after this story with glee. Why do we have to know all the salacious details? He’s a dick, get him out of office.

  33. DGO says:

“Unfortunately, this is de rigueur for politicians and men in power EVERYWHERE. It’s DISGUSTING. It’s not right. But there it is.” – bellaluna

    _______________

And not just men in power. I know a lot of men AND women who do this kind of stuff at work all day.

  34. the original bellaluna says:

@ DGO – Because if we DIDN’T know all the salacious details, it would be EVEN HARDER TO GET HIM OUT OF OFFICE. (I’m not saying I don’t agree w/you – some sh!t I just don’t need to know!) But that’s the way America works, unfortunately.

And yeah, I know it’s not just men. Hence the verbage “good strong women.” Those who aren’t into epic tomfoolery.

  35. RobN says:

He and the wife should break up before they breed and condemn some poor kid to a combination of those two noses.

  36. bondbabe says:

Whatever anyone wants to do in their personal life is none of my business, as long as it’s not illegal or hurting anyone—but do it on your own time.

However…when the person gets caught and then blames someone else and INTENTIONALLY lies about it, that is something else entirely, and that is what ruffles my feathers. AND, my tax dollars do not need to be spent while the liar is doing his dong-sharing at work!!! Like I said, do it on your own time.

  37. Rita says:

Good Congressman my pockmarked tight little ass. He’s married less than a year and is tweeting his peen to college girls??? As a congressman he’s just a “blend in guy” and snatch up all the perks you can. People with such character merely check the wind direction to see who they can make happy. We need Congressmen and women with good character. What is it about our society that thinks as long as someone shows up to work, it doesn’t matter what sort of person they are. If his wife stays with him, she’ll do so for the perks, or until the next election when hopefully there are still enough good people in his district to vote him out.

  38. heb says:

I bet John Edwards is LOVING this

  39. Kate says:

The issue, as always, isn’t the initial act. The issue is the cover up. He claimed he was hacked. He then said he’d hire a private security firm to look into thinigs. Alarm bells then rang in media circles: what if our government officials are being hacked??? He went on about it for a week and talked to any camera that would turn on for him.

You know he was done in by a second group of photos which have pictures of the Clintons and in wife in the background! Stupid arrogant fame-hungry jerk. He’s a dead man walking politically and he only has himself to blame. Sadly a very common tale.

  40. xxodettexx says:

agree with his politics but SO OVER POLITICIANS AND THEIR STUPIDITY AND EGOS!

  41. xxodettexx says:

    [DOUBLE POSTED FROM ANGER!! HAHA]

  42. TaylorB says:

I confess I totally defended him at first, I also grew up with an unfortunate last name and so I jumped to the conclusion that it was a prank due to my personal bias.

I have said it before and I will say it again, what are these people thinking? In this day and age to put up photos etc on the internet? And here is another tip there are options, if you aren’t happy with your wife/husband go to therapy to work it out, or choose to have an open marriage (that you both agree upon) or get a divorce, be a single person and bang to your little hearts desire.

  43. the original bellaluna says:

@ xxodettexx – Yes. Their stupidity, egos, and peens. BTW, where have you been? Haven’t seen you in quite awhile!

  44. SillyOne says:

I completely agree he is a disgusting perv, but did you see the size of that bulge. Granted he should have only been sending those pics to his wife for a little tease during the day.

  45. Tiffany says:

I am waiting for the day when a politician or public figure gets asked a question about their past or an indiscretion and say, ‘Yeah. I did it…and?’. Not wait until s*.it hits the fan. Then I would some of these people more seriously because I know I am far from perfect and don’t project as such.

  46. Jen34 says:

People that stupid and lacking complete judgement should not be in positions of power. Seriously, did he think he was indestructible? What an arrogant imbecile. I can’t believe he has been married for less than a year. The ink hasn’t even dried on the marriage license.

  47. the original bellaluna says:

@ Tiffany – Thank you. A little bit of honesty, if you please, from those in power.

We all know you’re assholes. Just admit it, for a change!

  48. Violet says:

What an arrogant liar. I bet he’s still lying, because I’m convinced he’s doing more than just sexting.

I hope his wife — a pretty woman and they’re practically still newlyweds, FFS! — is smart enough to walk away before she has any children with this douche.

  49. angela says:

It seems like everyone is making a way bigger deal about this than it is. Is he really a disgusting pervert? No. I think he’s kind of lame and embarrassing, but this isn’t a really shocking story. Settle down, everyone.

  50. Justaposter says:

I am going to say one snarky thing, and then go back on topic.

You know damn well if this was someone who happend to be a repbulican.. Most, and by most I mean at least 85 percent of you would be demanding that person leave office right now! Admit it and own it!

    Back on topic..

DOOOOOODE! WTF were you thinking! Not only did you create “weinergate” (admit it, it is fun to say LOL) you lied about it! And then said it may or may not be my weiner Seriously?!

You should have come out right off the bat and said ‘ooops my bad… I did it, and now please let me try to repair my marriage (aka keep the weiner in said texts) and try to get on with my life!

    But nooooooooo.. deny deny deny

::Facepalm:: When will men learn.. if you send a naughty text to a woman, we laugh and point, laugh even harder, and then text/email your weiner to every female we know and point and laugh!

CB, I am kinda shocked that you didn’t mention that Chris Matthews tweeted how his wife is partly responsible for his actions.. claiming she “knew” who he really was.

  51. You don't say says:

Everyone should know by now that the cover-up is worse than the offense, especially if it is not illegal. Not sure how long this went on, but he knew he was guilty and if he had just fessed up then, there would not be this insane fallout. Just dumb is the only way to explain this nonesense. But at least his wife did not have to stand next to him and pretend it was all OK like all the other sleazebags made their spouses do.

  52. Meghan says:

Maybe it’s from being from Memphis, but I’m not sure what else could come out about this that would make me feel more than “whatever.” Skeezy and stupid? Yeah. Worst thing ever in the history of the world? No. I can’t even get worked up that he lied about it, because they all lie. But I never understood why all the crazy radio show people were screaming about him getting the FBI involved. I figured either this would happen or it would truly turn out to be nothing and they would all be screaming about using FBI resources to investigate this.

I just….why waste time and energy saving all the texts and stuff? While I don’t have my local politicians sexting me (thank goodness), I would probably go “um…kay…” and move about with my life.

  53. danny says:

This guy is pure crap on a crap cracker honey-roasted in crap.

  54. Andria says:

ROFL! Charlie S., you made my day.

  55. Ally says:

He’s been a smart, well-spoken and aggressive politician. So the level of self-indulgent and stupid required to participate in stuff like this given that he knows he’s a high-profile married congressman, is a big come-down in one’s estimation of the man. Also, needlessly going on a dozen TV shows to obfuscate when he knew it was him: dumb dumb dumb. He should have just said, “yes it’s me, it was a stupid mistake” and moved on. The needless televised lying has helped keep the story going and justify the prurient interest in the story. Other than that, the media reaction is overblown. Weiner has never gone around pontificating and trying to regulate other people’s bedroom activities, so there’s no hypocrisy here which is what usually takes down the Republican sexters.

However, as Glenn Greenwald points out:

“I’d really like to know how many journalists, pundits and activist types clucking with righteous condemnation of Weiner would be comfortable having that standard applied to them. I strongly suspect the number is very small. Ever since the advent of Internet commerce, pornography — use of the Internet for sexual gratification, real or virtual — has has been, and continues to be, a huge business. Millions upon millions of people at some point do what Weiner did. I know that’s a shocking revelation that will cause many Good People to clutch their pearls in fragile Victorian horror, but it’s nonetheless true. It’s also true that marital infidelity is incredibly common.

“If Chris Matthews or Brian Williams or any politician ever patronized or even visited a porno site on the Internet or had a sexually charged IM chat with someone who isn’t their spouse, shouldn’t that now be splashed all over the Internet so we can all read it — not just the fact of its existence but all the gory details? After all, this is about character, judgment, veracity: these are Important Journalists and Politicians, and how can we trust them if they’re not even faithful to their spouse? Isn’t that the standard now — the one they’re gleefully propagating?”

On a brighter note, here’s Weiner’s mea culpa enacted by sad-faced daschunds:
    http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/anthony-weiners-apology-speech-presented-by-guil

  56. Tomas says:

Seriously, why does anyone give a crap about this stuff anymore?! Thousands of people are sexting and cheating in their marriages every freaking day, so why is this front page news? Schwarzenegger last week, Weiner this week, who will it be next week? I DON’T CARE.

  57. Jen34 says:

I talked to my brother who lives in NY. Rumour has it that Weiner is gay, which I am starting to believe. Another rumour is that is wife is also gay and more than friends with Hillary, which I think is a stretch. Either way, I hope she gets out of that marriage.

  58. Beatrice says:

He married a brilliant, accomplished, and attractive woman less than a year ago and is sexting strangers? This guy is a total skeeze. I really feel sorry for for his wife and hope she takes a cue from Maria Shriver and dumps him quickly. I’m so relieved that she didn’t “stand by her man” on stage at the press conference. Good for her.

  59. anti says:

i liked rep weiner. i hate that he lied first in the round of media interviews and that he was so stupid.

  60. sarahb says:

He looks like the offspring of screech from saved by the bell, and gonzo from the muppets.

U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner said the city should ditch the statue, “Triumph of Civic Virtue,” because it is “sexist.”

  62. JJ says:

If he was only doing this at home, its nobody’s business. He should not have lied at first, but it is pretty embarrassing, especially cause his name is weiner. It isnt right that he is married, doing it during work hours, or that he lied..HOWEVER i dont think this makes him a pervert. geez everyone saying that if you dont think your husbands are messaging girls on plenty of fish or lavalife or facebook, you would be surprised.

  63. Jb says:

What a total loser. His wife needs to kick his mediocre ass to the curb. Gross.

  64. Ron says:

What a dumbass. Figures he’s in Congress.

  65. Amanda G says:

    A congressman lied? SHOCKING.

  66. girl says:

I feel so sad for his wife. I hope the press doesn’t give her a hard time.

  67. MeriJaan says:

    Damn, he’s ugly.

  68. RIRI says:

    WHO CARES

  69. Chris says:

I don’t know why people keep expecting politicians to be saints. Goerge Clooney is on a winner when he says he’d run on a platform of “Yes, I did it.”

  70. eternalcanadian says:

I really could care less what this bloke was wanking off to at hime in the privacy of his bedroom, but if he’s using his time (and office equipment) sexting at work or on the road representing his constituents that is wrong and he should be booted from congress.

On top of that, to lie about doing what he did is worse than what he did. It seems in 2011 it is the M.O. of all men to send pictures of their penis to people on the Internet. It is expected, it is done all the time. We don’t bat an eye anymore when sex tapes come out let along a salami in some bloke’s pants on Twitter.

But to not owe up to being stupid just insults everyone and raises questions about the person’s character because if they lied about this what else are they lying about.

  71. ZenB!tch says:

Are all politicians pervs? I’m waiting for the Obama and Romney scandals. I picked them not due to party but because they seem the least sexual (both lack passion) of all politicians.

  72. Grace says:

Several folks wondered “why” we should care about this.

    1. He is a lying liar
    2. He is a rep of our government. Doing something like this subjects him to possible blackmail, extortion.
    3. All you who think he is such a great congressman, think how much better he could be if he didn’t spend all this time stroking his ego and whatever else he had available.
    4. This showed incredibly poor judgment. I don’t want someone with judgment this bad making legislation and decisions about me.
    5. He is a typical ruling elite, acting all sanctimonious while doing really creepy stuff.

The whole thing is just downright disgusting. I don’t want someone like that “ruling” me.

  73. Chris says:

“He is a typical ruling elite, acting all sanctimonious while doing really creepy stuff.”

I don’t think that’s limited to the ruling elite.

  74. Laughternrain says:

I knew it! I knew he sent it. I just got a feeling, a ‘vibe’, and he does give that pervert vibe off. And hes only been married for less than a year? He couldn’t even make it a year without cheating, let alone the ‘7 year itch’. He should have the self-respect and moral humility to stand down. And if his wife stays with him, after all this, especially if more girls come out of the woodwork, shes a fool. I don’t understand women who stay with men like this. I truly don’t.

  75. the original bellaluna says:

Like it or not, people in a position of power are held to a higher standard than us every-day Joes.

What I expect of the people I vote for is that they, at the very least, are able to conduct themselves in a way that A) is not embarrassing and B) doesn’t require bald-faced lies to me.

Since I’ve managed to live without sexting strangers and posting various body part pictures online, I don’t believe it’s asking too much of our elected officials to do the same.

  76. Grace says:

    Brava, belleluna! Thank you!

  77. Sakyiwaa says:

this stuff has dominated the media… so i know he is a douche…

  78. kikay says:

She should have cut his whoring weiner.

  79. ahoymatey says:

“Instead of reading bills, passing laws and figuring out to make life better for the people he represented, he was wasting time stroking his d*ck and ego online. He’s not resigning yet, although there are plenty of calls for him to do so.”

This makes me think you don’t really know anything about his political career. He has been one of the most outspoken politicans, consistenly railing against hypocritical positions and encouraging others to pull their heads out of their asses and use common sense. (More eloquently spoken, of course).

And also, when similar things have happened to republicans, they have not ever called for their own to resign. I seem to recall David Vitter getting caught in a DC prostitution ring a few years back, and he just had a multi-thousand dollar fundraiser this week.

  80. sabine says:

This guy’s ego is thru the roof
