Did Adele cancel her tour because someone told her to lose weight?

wenn9191983

I have no idea why this week seems like The Week of Weight Issues And The People Who Take Issue With Weight. There was Gwyneth Paltrow, being rude to her chubby peasant “friend,” then there was Julia Roberts allegedly being a nasty, vile bitch to her overweight half-sister. And now we have a story about a non-celebrity being a nasty piece of work to an overweight celebrity. That celebrity is my dear love, Adele. I want to be Adele’s girlfriend (interpret that however you want), I want her to sing to me as I go to sleep, and most of all, I want Adele to find some kind of happiness and contentment. Because I worry about her – Adele’s a good girl, but she’s neurotic and hyper-self-aware, and little things can send her into a tailspin (God, that sounds familiar). Anyway, Star reports this week that Adele didn’t really cancel her North American tour because of laryngitis, which was the excuse given a few weeks ago. Star claims that Adele really canceled her tour because some American music executive d-bag told her she should lose weight. SHUT YOUR DOUCHE MOUTH!

Officially, it was laryngitis that forced Adele to cancel her recent North American tour. But Star has learned exclusively that it’s not the British singer’s throat that’s bruised – it’s her confidence!

“Shortly after she landed in LA in early May, an executive for her label told her she needs to lose weight,” a source tells Star. “And that really devastated her.”

Although a very talented singer, Adele, 23, suffers from extreme panic attacks. And performing in front of increasingly larger crowds has made the condition worse. She’s told friends she’s gotten so nervous on stage, her throat would literally close up.

“The pressure on Adele… has been immense,” says the source. “She was sitting in her hotel room in Santa Monica on her own, crying.”

The added pressure placed on her because of her weight has only made her more anxious and uncomfortable.

“Adele sees herself as just a normal girl from London, and she felt bullied and like a fish out of water in LA. She just wanted to go home,” the source tells Star.

During her last American tour, “she was drinking a lot with her crew… she got very homesick and she canceled the tour because she wanted to go home to England to see her boyfriend at the time.”

Before she set out for the States this time around, says the source, she started drinking heavily because she was dreading the trip so much.

According to the source, though, Adele is allergic to big-time fame: “Adele is not at all interested in the commercial, moneymaking side of the business.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Adele is not Katy Perry. Adele is not Rihanna. Adele is not Britney. Adele is not Cheryl Cole. Adele is not Ke$ha. Adele is not Madonna. Adele is not Miley Cyrus. Adele is not Nicole Scherzinger. Adele is not even Beyonce. With Adele, there is literally NO need to try to package her or “fix” her or market her as some kind of sexed-up doll/pop product. She has a magnificent voice, and she’s a gifted songwriter who writes for herself. You can just hand out her CDs and people will just understand it. People will go, “Oh, REAL music. So pretty!”

A few weeks ago, CB and I were talking about Adele, and I compared her to the epically talented female singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s, like Carole King and Carly Simon. I stand by that – when you have that much talent, it really doesn’t matter what you look like. The “product” you’re selling is actually the music, not the artist.

But besides all of that, I think Adele is really beautiful. She looks like she loves food and wine, and I bet she’s a great date. I wish I could date her. But I’ll settle for Prince Harry dating her.

Should I put it up again? Adele singing “Someone Like You” at the BRIT Awards a few months ago:

I love her and I think she’s gorgeous and as long as she’s healthy who cares how much she weights!! I love singing karoake and my favorite song to sing is Rolling in the Deep!! Of course I don’t do it any justice!! Haha!

  2. Anne de Vries says:

Gods, I hope not – but I can see it. She does come across as if the public facing part of her success is extremely taxing for her. I suppose that’s in part what you get when you bare your soul in your songs – suddenly you find yourself standing in front of a couple thousand people and share your innermost pain. That must be a whole lot more emotional than singing something somebody else wrote for you.

I think she’s stunning, and I hope that she finds a way for herself to function happily – if that means little to no live performances, or only small intimate ones, I’ll content myself with the studio albums.

  3. HotLatino says:

I’ll just say this: I’m sick of her being #1 and blocking my faves from the top spot!!!

    • tami says:

you are crazy adele has a wonderful voice and is beautiful the so called better artist could take a page or two outta her book and be real and stop trying to be the ideal american view of beauty

  4. Ruby says:

No, I hate to break it to you Kaiser but Adele is my girlfriend!
No seriously who cares who much she weighs. Would losing weight make her more talented? No. She is beautiful and unique.
To the haters: no matter what Adele weighs she will be and is stunning. You can be as thin as you want but you can still be ugly.

  5. Anne says:

Nice. A woman who can sing without auto-tune is no longer an asset. She is gorgeous and has a fantastic voice. I hope she ignores this ‘advice’ and continues on her merry way.

  6. Dorothy#1 says:

I am so obsessed with “Someone Like You” right now. BEST SONG EVER!!!

I agree that she is so talented and funny, it doesn’t matter what she looks like. Why do people care what she weights?

  7. Bubbling says:

Hollywood will make us all look skinny, tanned and blond, so sick of it! I just wished she stopped smoking and only not to ruin her voice. Being morbidly obese- I have a problem with that, it’s not healthy, etc we all know that. But people with 5-7 kgs more than they should have? It’s their prerogative and leave them alone!!!

  8. RocketMerry says:

She’s a very beautiful girl and an incredibly talented singer and song-writer.
Music producers nowadays only conceive success as a derivative for sexual innuendo, I’m not surprised they do not see her beauty.

  9. Sarah says:

Adele is a goddess. She’s gorgeous and has an insanely gorgeous voice. We don’t need her to be anything else. Everyone is so stuck on this image of what “pop stars” should be like, it’s sick. She’s not trying to be a pop star. She’s a singer. I’d totally be her girlfriend (take that however you want) lol

  10. D says:

she’s already lost alot of weight you should have seen her before belive me ive met her when she was Really BIG. She’s on a tiny indie label in england and she was signed for her TALENT not looks the fact she is doing well in ameica is a shock to her label they werent going out of their way to make her into a star she would definately ditch the u.s market if the pressure got immense coz shes not tht type of artist -columbia signed her on her voice so why are they now pressuring her to loo]se weight she just at the very least needs to refine her look: wear more flatering clothes and cut her hair to make it more modern but that’s it really. It’s a mistake to try to pitch her at the katy perry/beyonce market her fan base is diverse for a reason.

  11. Adrien says:

If that’s true, it’s very very cruel. Although, I’m always curious to see what she would look liked slimmed down just to get that weight thing out of the way and to STFU the people making fun of her. She’s a beautiful woman.

  12. Nibbi says:

i co-sign everything you wrote, kaiser; i totally agree. she represents REAL music. it makes me sort of ashamed that apparently in america you have to look like a damn barbie doll to be in the spotlight no matter what the reason, and the music exec should be DAMN ASHAMED of him(?)self.
what’s more, it even bothers me that ppl here have already said things like “who cares what she looks like, she can sing”- again like you said, um, she’s actually beautiful and nice to look at and watch sing. she looks amazing in the clip. i even feel like her physique adds to the package, but i guess i’ve lost touch with the mass market.
maybe the ad exec didn’t realize that she’s not necessarily supposed to be a “pop” star?
anyway that person can thank him/herself for potentially depriving a gazillion people the experience of hearing her sing if this is true.

  13. MarenGermany says:

The image of her sitting alone in a hotel room crying almost made me cry myself.
If this story is true I wanna hug her, and hope as many of her fans/followers do so online and tell her how beautiful and gifted she truely is.

  14. gee says:

I hope this is not true. I love her so much.

  15. MeMyself says:

She’s so beautiful and never once has it even crossed my mind she is overweight or that others might think so.

I guess I was captured by her talent and loveliness.

  16. Emily says:

@ D, ITA. Even if you just google her name and look at old pictures of her, she looks like she is a lot smaller now than she was. As long as she is healthy and happy, it shouldn’t matter how much she weighs.

She is very talented, but they are overplaying her to death on the radio.

  17. BB says:

I am not even a fan of her music and I find her bloody gorgeous. She looks perfect as she is, I hope no one tells her otherwise.

  18. scotchy says:

ok, i don’t get or have the adele love, but i respect the fact that she is talented, and is a nice breath of fresh air in the auto tuned pop world,
however she was primed for success, you don’t have an artist working with the best pop songwriters in the business, if you are not aiming for hits, so don’t i don’t buy the whole she writes for herself, only because that just isn’t true. i think she is tired, and has stage fright which can make it hard to sing.. sade had the same problem, that is why she rarely tours.

  19. the original bellaluna says:

Adele is as beautiful as she is talented. Her music does not require auto-tune, skimpy costumes, and a troupe of back-up dancers. Therefore, she does not need to “puddy pop” on stage.

I hope whoever said this to her is happy: every comment I’ve heard or read regarding her concert cancellation is one of devastation by her American fans who had tickets. (And that was before this little nugget came out.)

If this is true, promo company is composed of some serious bastards. (does JR own it?) May a thousand water buffalo piss on their clean white sheets. *turns head, spits on ground*

  20. the original bellaluna says:

I have yet to read about a promo company telling C-Lo (or any other hefty dude) that he needs to lose weight. hmmm….

  21. khaveman says:

I don’t think she is in a healthy weight range. Maybe she is, but if she is not then she’s putting extra stress on her body.

  22. Melissa says:

I would so date her too. I told my best friend if she only had one more “attachment” I would want to marry her. 🙂 I hope she doesn’t start letting anyone pressure her into being someone she’s not. Her music speaks for itself and we fans love her just the way she is.

    @ Sarah: I second that. She is a Goddess…..

  23. lolas says:

Adele is a 20 a day smoker. But the thing that gets people is she’s a bit overweight. I had 19 on constant rotation when it came out, and 21 since that came out, and there isn’t a more deserving pop artist to have the success she has, and I hope she continues to have it, because the music world needs her to counteract the Britney/Rihanna/Xtina/Gaga reliance on sex rather than talent, but I worry that this article might have more truth than not to it, and she will succumb to the sort of pressures that turned Britney Spears into a zombie.

  24. Hollowdoll says:

What a bag full of dicks! She should have bitch slapped him into next week! She is amazing in every way. I don’t want her to end up like Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera or Amy Winehouse. I can’t say I blame her for backing out of that B.S.

  25. Audrey says:

She’s not in a healthy weight range, but it’s her body and she can do with it as she pleases. Screw the recording industry hacks.

  26. Eve says:

She’s chubby and she’s pretty. So what? Why do people have to look the same?

Also, she actually sings instead of sticking her ass up in the air in order to divert people’s attention from off-key singing (like those girls mentioned by Kaiser).

Regarding her health, Adele should consider quitting smoking — it may give the voice that sexy raspiness in the beginning of a singer’s career but ultimately it ruins the vocal cords.

  27. kibbles says:

I hate, hate, hate to see smart and talented women feel worthless because a man tells them they aren’t pretty or skinny enough to make it in their field of work. I really hope this isn’t true because Adele should be focusing on her music, not on a douchebag’s comments so that she becomes another celebrity who feels the need to starve herself or get liposuction.

  28. vanessa says:

I think anyone who goes to LA and are not from there would feel like a fish out of water. Most of the women there are skinny, toned, blond and beautiful (with cosmetic surgery of course). When my hubs went there a few years ago, he said the women were beautiful but after awhile, they all look the same. I think she’s pretty and has a unique style. I’ve recently started listening to her music and it’s nice to hear singing without auto tune to a poppy beat.

  29. jackie says:

What a voice…hearing her sing can make me cry and now I want to cry thinking that some fat cat a** sitting in some office in L.A thinks that it’s okay to tell her she’s not perfect the way she is. L.A. is full of insecure monsters who look great on the outside but are hollow and hideous on the inside. She should leave and stay away from the US if this is how she’s treated.

  30. fannomore says:

of course some dbag who is most likely fat and bald told her that, no question that next year she will be 80 lbs and we will be asking if she had a bypass or is on meth

  31. Regina Phalange says:

Adele is lovely, and wonderful just as she is. I hope this story isn’t true!

  32. Kloops says:

Perfect just as she is. Except the smoking bit. That needs to stop.

  33. Fuzzy Cat says:

That exec is an idiot – there were lots of folks looking forward to that concert, and is it known if the exec is male or female, as females can be exceptionally cruel to one another over weight. I hope Adele can get past this negativity, be strong and proud of who she is and not pander to the skinny minny flat assed wasteland out there.

  34. margaritachum says:

i really hope this isn’t true.
adele is gorgeous and looks fabulous to me and it’s a shame that some people can’t enjoy a beautiful voice if it comes out from a chubby girl.
don’t sell yourself adele like most of them do.

we should all take lessons from beth ditto i love that girl. she has a great voice and doesn’t give a sh!t about what others think about her weight.

  35. yepp says:

i love Adele, and as soon as New York Legalizes gay marrige i will be more than happy to marry Adele, she is not only beautiful, she seem like such as sweetheart. some one should of told that music excecutive to f off! I would totally eat bread and drink wine with Adele. Stop trying to fix something thats not broken. ( he should take his words of advice to xtina !)

  36. djork says:

Adele is GORGEOUS exactly the way she is. Musically, she is the real deal. The only thing she needs to do is stop smoking.

  37. tooey says:

American pop music for female “artists” is totally f-ed up! Minimal vocal talent but if you have a nice body and are willing to take to the pole and simulate sex onstage (Brit, I’m talking to you) then there’s a spot at the top of the charts.

  38. tripmom says:

Losing weight could actually be bad for her career, maybe. When singers gain a lot of weight it always changes the way their voice sounds, so wouldn’t it stand to reason that if she lost a lot of weight her voice might sound different, too?

  39. Belle Epoch says:

“I hate, hate, hate to see smart and talented women feel worthless because a man tells them they aren’t pretty or skinny enough to make it in their field of work.” Exactly.

I hate, hate, hate whoever said this to her. Sticking a fork in her vulnerabilities is rude, crude, shortsighted, mean … And I’m sure this person feels 100% justified.

DON’t LISTEN, ADELE! YOU ARE A GODDESS and the music exec is a LEECH

  40. Leigh says:

I really hope this isn’t true but could understand if it was. Adele has talked frequently about suffering massive stage fright. Can you imagine having that AND having that additional pressure dumped on you?

Its also entirely possible that it is the voice trouble. She talked about having trouble in the winter and how horrific it would be for her to be physically unable to sing. (interview with CBC)

  41. Becca B says:

Those LA executives need to STFU. She is beautiful just the way she is.

  42. Violet says:

She has a magnificent voice and the performance in the clip is terrific. Frankly, I think her body is far more attractive than the skeletal Hollywood ideal.

I really hope this is just a rumor, because it’d be a damn shame to make her feel bad unnecessarily. She’s a gorgeous woman with an amazing talent. I’d love to see her live!

  43. Ms. Candy says:

I am not understanding the Industry with this lose weight crap… The woman is talented she is known for her talent not for looks/sex appeal. Actual Adele in pretty in her own right. She can lose weight when SHE wants to not because she was pressured into it.

I swear only US executives is actually like that.

  44. Eleonor says:

Adele is a true artist, and all the Hollywood executives who think that she has to lose weight, get a lipo, and then of course fake tan, fake boobs, fake lips, and botox need to STU.

  45. Tiffany says:

You guys all say that and then rip Xtina for gaining weight, along with any other star.
We should just be happy with who we are as long as we are healthy.

  46. SallyJay says:

She is a true artist and I am so happy that she is getting the recognition she deserves. As so many others have said – what does it matter what she looks like? (although I also think she is beautiful). I used to be a fan of Rihanna and I still think she has a great voice but have to admit to feeling a little uncomfortable by the extreme sexualisation of her performances recently – I am FAR from being a prude – girl can SING, why is it necessary? Calling her out particularly as I’m not a fan of GooGoo or Bouncy.

  47. lucy2 says:

I too hope this isn’t true, and if it is, that exec is a moron – both of her albums have been huge, her current one has been top of the charts for months, and most people really love and PAY FOR her work. They always complain about the music industry hurting, but then a singer like her comes along and does great, and someone tries to make her conform into some prefab mould? Gah. I really hope it’s not true.

I think she’s beautiful too, but would also like to see her quit smoking – don’t ruin that voice!

  48. anait says:

I would like to see some photos of these “executives”. I’m sure they are the worst looking persons in the world, with those little piggy eyes… she can sing? Yes, so WTF! They don’t have to sleep with her, marry her etc… if her fans love her, her voice, her songs the weight problem doesn’t exist, it is only a way to ruin her life or her self-esteem. I hate this kind of person!

  49. S says:

Adele if you read this let me tell you: you are one of the most talented, beautiful singer/songwriters out there in the last decade.
Do not give a da*n sh*t about those as*holes complaining about your weight ( what weight btw).
Those people know nothing, are heartless and without any real beauty in their lifes. One of your many, many true fans

  50. Eve says:

    @ Tiffany (# 45):

Well, my problem with Christina Aguilera (besides her singing — I’m not fond of the “high notes” divas) is that she’s always looking extremely tacky and cheap, not her weight.

  51. noirod says:

wow, imagine she’s a real woman, what a thought, let’s get rid of the real stuff and force her to be anorexic and look like everyone else!!!! Idiots!! Adele is gorgeous and REAL and has REAL talent!! Don’t give in Adele, stay real!! Love her

  52. Jules says:

Leave to America to eff it up. I would rather listen to 1 Adele than have to suffer seeing 50 different Perry’s with their tit’s hanging out. And the record companies wonder why music sales are tumbling. More talent, less tits.

  53. Caity says:

The ‘Someone Like You’ version when she is live on Jools Holland is the best out there. Youtube it!!

  54. Gwen says:

She’s lovely and supertalented unlike so many other female singers these days. I hope she won’t let people bring her down – they have no right to.

  55. WestValCalli says:

She is a BEAUTIFUL young woman. I truly hope she doesn’t allow the likes of this fool to bring her down.

  56. trolleydolly says:

She said herself in a recent interview she didn’t particularly want to lose weight as “it would make my tits go saggy” !

I Love her, my husband is fixated upon her, we frequently well up tearfully when listening to her music (as does my brother, which made a really fun evening lately with 3 of us sniffling)

She carries her weight beautifully, she is stunningly attractive anyway, talented in the extreme and even though I am most certainly the least prudish person imaginable, I love the fact she can sit on a chair, in a prim black dress and make celestial music…she doesn’t need to wave her arse in the air.

  57. Jojo says:

    Hey CB, Kaiser, and gang,

I hear some people saying that they hope this isn’t true etc. and commenting on it anyway. It makes me wonder about what makes gossip writers believe some stories/relationships while doubt the veracity of others. I would love it, Kaiser and CB, if you guys could do a post about what makes a story believable vs what makes one seem suspect. The reason: I feel like I’m totally unable to tell “fake” from the “real.” I’d love to hear your (and the readers’) view on the subject, to know what your spidey senses detect in stories that I seem to miss.

  58. Annie_Grey says:

A few weeks back when she was on Dancing with the Stars, Adele had Delta Goodrem sing “Natural Woman”, for her. She said her voice was on the verge of laryngitis, and that she was afraid of going for those higher notes.

  59. Whatever! says:

don’t listen to them Adele. Your a role model for today’s younger generation. Genuine talent wrapped in a real woman’s package. You are perfect, talented beyond belief and if the record exec’s want to change you into anything other than what you are….dump them and get a new label. You are a true inspiration! Not fake or phoney like so many of the other popular acts. Rihanna has to slut it up, poor Katy Perry can’t sing at all, Kiesha, don’t really know what going on there. Yet all you have to do is sing and the whole world listens.

  60. Jen says:

that song is so beautiful, it literally brings tears to my eyes within the first few notes. Thanks for posting the youtube link.

  61. B says:

I think that Adele is lovely and talented and I hope that she doesn’t let this get to her because she has already proven herself. She doesn’t need to change herself. We already like her.

I also just don’t understand the obsession with other people’s bodies. It’s none of your business. It pisses me off when people feel like they need to tell others to lose weight or gain weight or do whatever else. It’s not your body – leave them alone. It’s one thing to give health advice…you know, in a kind way, but it’s totally another to tell someone to just flat-out lose weight or that they have a problem or something. How holier-than-thou.

  62. jen says:

I think she’s lovely, but let’s face it she’s overweight & a celebrity so of course people are going to comment on the way she looks. We all do it here everyday, people!

  63. bluhare says:

I love the Sisterhood! Here everyone was slugging it out over Jennifer Aniston yesterday, and today we’re all standing in unison defending our beloved Adele.

  64. lil says:

Who told her to lose weight? Goopy?

  65. Me says:

She is not in a healthy weight range but thats besides the point. She is talented. Im in a healthy weight range but I am sure as fuck not talented.

  66. Erin says:

OMG, seriously?!?! I effin HATE the new Britney album and Katy Perry has seriously been getting on my nerves lately. Adele and her music though brings tears to my eyes as well. Her voice is pure talent and soul and her appearance is curvy and speaks to the average body type. She is gorgeous and I REALLY hope this isn’t true.

  67. mrsezc says:

I’m glad she’s not into THAT side of the business, Adele has more talent than most of America’s singers in her little finger!!! I wanted to see her in concert and I’m sad I won’t now 🙁 .. but I commend her for being REAL!! Makes me like her even more!!! Keep making music Adele .. I know I’ll be buying it up!!

  68. Amanda G says:

Could she lose some weight? Sure! But I think she’s beautiful just the way she is…inside and out.

  69. ADS says:

I bet the executive was male, old and ugly. Unless she needs to lose weight for health reasons, leave her be. And even then it’s no decision but her OWN.

  70. the original bellaluna says:

@ Jojo – For me, in this instance, this is the third article I’ve read about this (I read 2 of them yesterday and hoped they weren’t true). And this is the only one citing Star as a source. That kind of clinches it in my book. (This is my FAVOURITE go-to gossip site, but it’s not my only site. I also check out news sites. And Gossip Cop is a great tool to verify gossip – within reason.)

  71. kazoo says:

@tripmom, lol funny you should say that. does anyone remember the older r&b singer luther vandross? his weight fluctuated a lot, and many people would say that “big” luther sounded much better than “skinny” luther.

anyway, i adore adele. she actually sounds better live than on record which is insane. i hope this story isn’t true and that she reschedules in the US. i really want to see her concert.

  72. matt says:

I think the story is complete bs- she has had severe laryngitis several times before. She also stopped smoking this year because of it.

  73. daisyfly says:

Adele, I don’t care if you weigh 10 stone or 1000. You sing what you want, you live how you want, and you look how you want. Your music transcends anyone’s opinion.

  74. skilo says:

I love Adele so much. This story makes me absolutely sick. I hope she will tell anyone stupid enough to try and change her to F*CK OFF she is perfect just as she is. God this just makes me sick. I really hate how shallow our society has become.

  75. Louise says:

I don’t believe this story at all. Just based on the music business she’s probably heard lose weight since the beginning of her career. I doubt the 1000th exec to tell her to lose weight put her in a tail spin. For health reasons Adele should lose weight but clearly people care about her music not her looks.

  76. Kim says:

Sounds like she likes to sing but isnt up for the lifestyle and touring. Im sure she has heard lose weight many times before both in and out of the industry. Thats life. You cant really be super successful in the music industry unless you have high grossing concert tours.

  77. Fuzzy Cat says:

@Eve I second you on that. Adele has more talent than Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine dion combined and that lady can sing without the screaming trilling ayay aya ooo vocal gymnastics.

  78. Kiska says:

Adele is a goddess in every way. I get so F—ing angry when I hear stories like this one. She is beautiful and talented and nobody should be harassing her about her size.

  79. Andie B says:

She is a gorgeous girl – whoever is telling her to lose weight should go and jump in a lake. Her new song is one of the most lovely songs I have heard in a long time. She is very talented, and I hope she is able to stay true to herself.

  80. Maddox says:

God this is gross… I don’t doubt the veracity even a smidge, but it’s so disappointing. I get that Hollywood is culturally influential, but it’s gotten too ridiculous. I had an epiphany moment a few weeks ago while I was reading through some comments on a blog about Ashley Greene in her painted on bikini.
Several people remarked on her “saggy boobs”. I sat with a blank look for a minute, because wtf? I then realized that saggy boobs in this context=I have no idea what real breasts look like because fake tits have become our social norm. I’m less than impressed with our act…

  81. RHONYC says:

    true story:

the 1st British female singer that caught my attention growing up in the 80’s was Helen Terry, remember the background vocalist for Culture Club?

‘in the Church of the Poison Mii-hiiind,
in the Church of the POI-son Mii-hiiid!’

anyways, i remember loving her soulfulness and style.
she too was a big gal, and i didn’t give a fig.

this is the 1st live performance i’ve listened to of Adele and here’s what: health aside, she could be 500 POUNDS/226 KILOS and STILL be mayjah.

the honesty & interpretations of her songs can’t be duplicated.

question: when is the last time that a singer has kept your interest for a full 5-6 min. without shaking her can all over the stage?

    exactly.

Adele, you my friend are no JHud.
don’t listen to anyone. stay full figured & gorgeous.

losing weight doesn’t make you a better performer, just a red carpet starlet clone which is B-O-R-I-N-G.

if someone tells you to lose weight, say what i say…
in the words of Charlie Balimore from ‘The Long Kiss Goodnight’:

    “suck. my. d*ck.” 😉

  82. Isa says:

I think she is SO beautiful! Her face is just sooo sweet. I love it!
    And her voice is amazing!
The other day “Rolling in the Deep” came on the radio and I was on the phone with my husband. I said, “Oh! It’s my song!” He said, “I’ll let you go so you can listen to it. It’s a good song.” Haha.

  83. Hakura says:

I really am shocked that she smokes (& so many per day), knowing very well that it could destroy her voice (a-la “Ma’s Roadhouse” Granted the woman is hundreds of years old.) & can do horrible things to the rest of her body.

I know, based on the rumors of her having so much anxiety, that it’s causing her to smoke even *more* than usual. Taking that into consideration, it’s likely she’s also upped the amount to smoke in trying to lose the weight she was ‘shamed for’ by that fucker.

Like the rest of us, I wish there was a good way yo express how much we adore her voice & music, & that she’s beauitiful just the way she is, & souldn’t allow someone to try to push her into the cookie-cutter mold. No matter what she looks like, we’ll all be here to support her. Even other artists have expressed this.

  84. Thatsstupid says:

Honestly, part of Adele’s marketing strategy is that she does appeal to the normal masses of Americans without being unreachable and slutty like all of these other pop artists now. She’s like a breath of fresh air. She can actually sing, is chubby, but beautiful, and down to earth. She doesn’t need flashy clothes or accessories to sell records. In that video posted of her singing Somebody Like You, she’s wearing a completely plain black dress, simple as can be, and the performance is still moving. She’s something new and different, and aside from amazing songs, thats what I think is so appealing about her. So for those stupid idiots to tell her to lose weight, it’s pathetic, and it’ll come back to bite them when she doesn’t sell as many records because her persona is ruined because she just blends in…

  85. Gina says:

Unfortunately, in this country the Katy Perrys and Lopez’ are considered talent by so many. If you pretty it up, dumb it down, and botox it…they will come. I think she’s beautiful and have thought so for as long as I’ve been listening to her music. She’s young and I hope that continued comments like this don’t harden her.

  86. Maritza says:

Maybe her manager should get her a Weight Watchers contract, look what it has done for Jennifer Hudson. She is beautiful, just imagine how much more she would be if she lost weight. I just know she would feel more confident to go on stage looking super fabulous.

  87. L says:

I’m a big fan of Adele too Kaiser so you might like this article that explores her stylistic choices as well as the preference for that soul/motown sound in England by some of their artists. Really insightful. Here it is:

  88. Jag says:

I don’t know her or her music, but that exec should be fired for causing her to cancel her tour, imo. I do wonder, since she hates touring in the U.S. so much and seems to have canceled 2 of them now, why does she keep making tours here? Some artists don’t ever come here and do well still. Hopefully, she’ll find some therapy for herself that helps her deal with her low self-esteem.

  89. Dhavy says:

Music executives have been shoving these talentless women singing crappy music for years that the masses think someone like Spears or Beyonce are true talent. You can shove a shaking ass on my face all you want but real talent doesn’t have to come in a 98 lbs body with fake boobs, perky ass and extentions.

These days is hard to find good singers and when executives try to sell sex instead of music it kills me because all I can think of is future generations will strive to be the next Ke$ha instead of the next Adele

  90. Mojo says:

Hard to believe the rumour of an exec being so stupid as to tell her to lose weight. It would be like a company telling it’s most talented designer to get a hair transplant. A total irrelevance and no brainer. If it is true, I hope he/she was instantly dismissed for risking destroying the best product they’ve had for years. She’s gorgeous, a siren, an angel visiting earth. And please stop all those comments telling her to quit smoking. She’ll do so if and when she wants, not when you (good intentioned no doubt)health police keep nagging her. Leave her alone to blossom in her own way. She’s already under immense pressure. I thought her voice (and her well being)would be lucky to last out when I saw her 2011 tour schedule.

  91. MeriJaan says:

This really pisses me off. I wish people would just leave her alone and stop trying to mold her into the person THEY want her to be. She is stunningly beautiful just the way she is.She is not posing for sports illustrated, so why is her body an issue???

  92. Deven says:

What a cruel, inhumane thing to say to someone like her or ANYBODY! What a know-it-all moron who thinks he knows best. He treated her like she knows nothing about herself. Hacks in that industry should keep their mouths shut…they’re only good for…I’m not sure what they’re good for.

  93. dr.bombay says:

Sadly I think our American society stopped appreciating true talent long ago. Some exec nitwit, at one point, decided that “pure” talent like Adele must have a skeleton body, balloon boobs, and fake white chicklets for teeth.Heck, they’ll even forgo the talent for the boobs!

Not me. LOVE HER the way she is!!

  94. ZenB!tch says:

I thought part of Adele’s appeal (and yes, her marketing) was that she was chubby. I thought her marketing niche was being all about the voice.

I’m neither an Adele fan nor an Adele hater but as an observer of pop culture, I have to ask: Why would anyone mess with a winning formula whatever it is?

She’s very pretty, they better not mess with her face and coloring.

  95. ZenB!tch says:

I do want to point out that we are defending Adele and ragging on Kirstie Alley but I do think that is because Kirstie brings it on herself.

  96. Lauren says:

I am a size 4, and get told I am FAT..can you imagine how Adele feels? What a cruel world..we love you Adele and your beautiful voice & soul.

  97. poodlemom says:

Adele is my hero! She just needs to believe in herself…and not listen to some music industry a-hole! Her music is fantastic…and I love her because she isn’t auto-tuned or lip-syncing!

  98. SolitaryAngel says:

I had never heard of this woman until you girls posted Rolling In The Deep and I was instantly captivated.

She is a REAL person; not the kind of fake, plastic Botoxed-to-Hell famewhores that are rampant here in this country. She is beautiful EXACTLY the way she is and I would love to give the person who had the balls to try to change Adele my *opinion*.

I especially identify with her because we both have severe anxiety attacks; she is to be commended for being able to get up on stage and sing—I find it impossible sometimes to even go to Walmart!

I hope that if Adele has people who read blogs for her, they will see these positive postings and she will understand that we love her NO MATTER her size.

  99. Kat says:

Adele (and everyone else), you have to please yourself first. And frak the haters. Just be and do what makes YOU happy.

  100. Mama Chihuahua says:

If the story is even true, did the execs ever think that people may like her because she looks like a real person – and they actually can relate to that?

  101. WaywardGirl says:

    Adele is perfection. The end.

  102. mags says:

Seriously though, after what both the american music system and british seems to have done to a lot of up and coming british singers, i’d probably do the exact opposite. Unless i wanted to end up like lily allen or amy winehouse

  103. Rachael says:

She is gorgeous. Not everyone has to weigh 4 pounds to be hot.

  104. LittleDeadGirl says:

I’m sad to say I’d heard of her but not listened to her music until right now. Thanks for the link, I’m in love … beautiful voice … must buy her cd

  105. sammib says:

Bubbling – Adele is not “morbidly obese”. She is NORMAL. She has a/ a SPECTACULAR talent and b/ an amazingly gorgeous face. Adele is beautiful.

  106. TXCinderella says:

With her kind of talent, I’d tell them to go screw themselves. She is a beautiful woman!

  107. Aqua says:

I just love her.She doesn’t rely on ridiculous costumes, outrageous behavior or some sort of gimmick.Adele is nothing but pure class and talent which is what should really matter.

  108. Mojo says:

I suppose the poor girl might just be suffering from laryngitis. After all, it’s a common problem with singers who sing a lot. And this site’s writer Celebitchy does say she “enjoys finding fake celebrity news and overanalyzing gossip magazines”. Maybe the’re just having a larf at our expense. I was talking to Elvis about it just last night.

  109. danni says:

i laugh at it all yes she is a beautiful girl and who cares if she smokes i havnt once seen any remarks that pink should stop smoking or anything like that if she wants to smoke let her its her choice

  110. gianko says:

she is the only woman that i would marry…..many celebs would wish to have her sparkling blue eyes….her juicy lips….her smile…her perfect little nose…..her sense of humor…..and her character…!!! when i met her she is by far the most grounded woman.(not to mention celeb) but woman that i have ever met…!!! + the fact that her album kicked some asses in the states….so the one that told her those words must have been A BIG RETARD…!!!

  111. Zap says:

She’d be smokin’ hot if she lost some weight though. I’m not talking about stick thin. I’m talking about becoming really fit… She’d look great and would feel great too. Maybe her chubbiness is part of her look, but she has being losing weight recently… So who knows.
