Kate Winslet in a 2009 Victoria Beckham gown: gothic or sophisticated?

These are photos of Kate Winslet last night in Madrid, where she accepted an award for her humanitarian work (?) at the Yo Dona International Awards. Winslet’s dress is Victoria Beckham! Now only is it Beckham, it’s two-year-old Beckham! It’s from the 2009 collection. So either Winslet didn’t care and she just wanted to wear what she thought was a pretty dress, OR she didn’t really care enough about this event to find something new. As for the dress – I’d like it on her at a December premiere. It’s way too covered-up for Madrid in June, I think.

She might have been awarded for her humanitarian work last night but Kate Winslet also got full marks in the style stakes too. The British actress, 35, looked extremely elegant as she arrived at the Yo Dona International Awards in Madrid last night.

Kate was dressed in a floor-length black Victoria Beckham dress which boasted an embellished detail above the waist to accept her award for her humanitarian work at the award ceremony held at Palacio de Cristal de Arganzuela.

The actress was dressed in the simple yet stylish dress from Mrs Beckham’s AW 2009 collection. And her enviable figure was on display in the Lescot body skimming dress in black with a slash neck, defined shoulders, and ring embroidery waist detail.

Kate teamed the archive ensemble with a pair of Christian Louboutin heels and carried a hard clutch bag by Judith Leiber. She finished off her look with an elegant ponytail and a pair of dangling Tiffany & Co. earrings.

As well as being awarded an award for her humanitarian efforts it was announced that the Titanic actress is also among the stars who will be awarded a star on Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame next year.

[From The Mail]

Yes, it was just announced a short while ago that Winslet is one of the honorees for this year’s Walk of Fame, a list that includes Jennifer Aniston, Vin Diesel, Scarlett Johansson, Richard Burton (posthumous) and Jennifer Lopez. It’s said that the studios and publicists organize who will get a star and when, and that the stars or the studios are actually paying for their stars. My point? It’s not so much an “honor” as just another way to promote your film. But still, congrats to Winslet.

Not every celebrity that does charity work has a camera team following them and reporting to celebrity blogs.

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

The studs are bothering me. They seem really outta place. However I think the dress minus the studs is fabulous. It looks really great on Kate. Great cut, great fit looks amazing from all sides, maybe too long. Would have looked amazing floor length.

  3. nnn says:

I don’t like the dress at all but it will fit better a tall super slender body type.

  4. superjoy says:

face and makeup are gorgeous but she looks better with some color and when she shows off her wonderful bod!

  5. luls says:

wow! u can DEF see all the wrinkles & lines on Kate’s face. She IS obviously aging naturally, regardless of what anybody says.

  6. mega says:

I agree it’s too hot in Spain for this outfit.

Why you didn’t noticed she had something done in her face? Eyes lift for sure. And some fillers, too. And botox, maybe?

I hope she stops messing up, she is such a good actress that she won’t have problem in working in the next years and decades with a more mature face. Provided that she accepts her “natural evolution”, so to say.
She is naturally beautiful, not the typical HW plastic celeb.

  7. mews says:

She looks gorgeous. The dress is very appropriate for the occasion.

  8. imabrat says:

The studs are soooo Beckham. I don’t like anything Beckham so I think Kate looks like crap.

  9. Riana says:

Screw the dress, its her face that needs all the attention.

    GAW-JUS.

    Goodness, simply lovely.

  10. Luna says:

The studs make her waist look massive. Her face, however, lovely.

  11. Vapid says:

    My, what a glorious ass.

  12. Happymom says:

It’s a great dress for winter. I think the look is too heavy for summer in Spain.

  13. Ell says:

    She looks classy.

What film is Richard Burton promoting? Seriously, I heard he was getting a star on the news earlier today. It’s unbelievable he didn’t get one years ago. He will always have the best voice in the history hollywood.
I especially love his recording of Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood.

  14. fannomore says:

Since when does the weather outside have to effect the clothing inside? Hello, A?C?
Love it, very old school hollywood glam..except for the though, she looks beautiful in either case and black is always so sophisticated, love the pony tail too

  15. lucy2 says:

She looks pretty, but the dress does seem a bit heavy for summer.
I can’t say I’ve ever heard about her humanitarian work, but she must do quite a bit to be honored this way. Much prefer that way than someone like Paris Hilton whining to everyone that she’s such a good person because she “does charity all the time”.

  16. Faye says:

Definitely not a summery look, but she does look very classy.

  17. moxy says:

i want this dress. so much.

  18. Lala11_7 says:

Kate is working the HELL outta that dress…I WANT, VERY MUCH!

Yeah, it’s a bit much for summer time, but you can tell she thinks she’s HOT in it…

    And she is…

  19. Marisa says:

I agree with #1. She doesn’t parade her charity work in front of the cameras or show up at random charity events. Just because you don’t see her in action, doesn’t mean she does nothing. To put a question mark behind humanitarian work is such a strong display of ignorance, pure ignorance. The purpose of this award was for the foundation she created, called The Golden Hat Foundation. She gave an interview right before the awards explaining it. There’s a website for the foundation. You should’ve read up on her rather than brush off humanitarian work as if it was a random award they gave her. And she looks *naturally* beautiful, which isn’t my way of defending her. That’s how I think she looks. She’s been looking older lately and I don’t mean that as an insult. She’s embracing aging.

  20. Kaiser says:

Marisa – “She doesn’t parade her charity work in front of the cameras or show up at random charity events” – see this post, where she paraded in front of the cameras to receive a random award for her charity work.

As for my “pure ignorance” – I’ve never heard of her charity, so yes, I was ignorant of it. Isn’t the point of a charity having a celebrity benefactor supposed to be “to bring attention”?

  21. Reality says:

She looks amazing to me, and her face looks natural for an actress in her mid 30s, so if she has fucked with it, it’s not very noticeable. I also agree that the question mark is unnecessary. All it takes is a quick google search to find out that she does a lot for charity.

  22. Anonymous says:

Not a good summer gown, but it’s stunning. Her body is rediculously perfect!

  23. bagladey says:

I don’t really like the dress; it looks drab (even with the gold embellishment)and even though I like KW her face does not look good – it looks “different”.

  24. S says:

She looks and is fantastic. Great dress, but it’s far from gothic…

  25. Maritza says:

I’m not fond of the dress but she looks so elegant and pretty that who cares.

  26. LittleDeadGirl says:

She’s gorgeous as always and a real class act but the dres looks very drab (perfect word) on her especially considering the setting but to be honest it makes her look bigger than she really is. I don’t know, it just looks very boring to me and she’s so beautiful she could do so much better.

  27. Luci says:

Its very hot right now here in Madrid!

  28. Lisa Turtle says:

For all her anorexia, Victoria Beckham’s clothes actually look the best on women with curves.

This particular dress is incredibly flattering. The dress really emphasizes how beautiful a woman’s natural curves are. Kate’s body looks just breath-taking, especially in that side shot where you can see her booty and her legs. Wow!

Victoria Beckham’s dresses have looked the best on – J.Lo, Kate Winslet, and other women with fuller bodies.

  29. Hmmm says:

The dress looks great on her, but , man, she’s starting to look really hard.

  30. original kate says:

i don’t like the dress in general (those studs!), and i thinkit makes her look short-waisted or something. i hate those sleeves… if you took off the studs and gave it short sleeves? i love her, though -she can wear what she wants and still be fab.

  31. guesty says:

    Sophisticated.

  32. fabgrrl says:

I love her and think she is gorgeous. But that is one *terrible* dress! It looks baaaad on her. And I’m sorry, but you need a designer for THAT dress? C’mon!

  33. Laura says:

“Isn’t the point of a charity having a celebrity benefactor supposed to be “to bring attention”?’

Not necessarily. Not every celeb goes the “get attention for my charity because I’m a celebrity” way. Plenty of them give money and time to different charities but it doesn’t really get covered.

In this case, she’s got her own foundation to help people with autism. I didn’t know that but they are helping people just the same.

I would guess that those celebrities who aren’t getting tons of publicity for their charity work are probably giving money quietly to their charities or getting their charities connected to other wealthy people who can donate money and resources.

I think it’s wonderful what she’s doing, even though I wasn’t entirely aware of it.

  34. Denver Danni says:

I love her, I think she’s intelligent, and a great actress. The dress just looks hot and drapey for summer. It looks like it weighs 20 pounds.

  35. skibunny says:

She’s beautiful! I think many of you are so used to seeing those plastic Hollywood women you forget what a real one looks like. Lines and wrinkles! Gimme a break, she’s only 35. Good on her for her humanitarian work. Obviously she’s not doing it for exposure. Her talent speaks for itself.

  36. mew says:

Just pure BAD DRESS. That’s all. Makes her stocky. Cheap. Not good look.

  37. wifeyskarsgard says:

This woman has one of the best bodys in the bussiness. I wish my butt looked like hers…..theres motivation for me to hit the gym.

  38. Turtle Dove says:

Wowsa…. dangerous curves ahead. Kate looks gorgeous. The dress is a bit covered up like Kaiser said, but she does look amazing. I could see Angie wearing this dress, but I don’t think that she’d look as good in it as Kate does. (please don’t kill me for saying that Angie-fans 😉

  39. Amanda G says:

    She looks beautiful.

  40. Ka says:

    One word: awful!

  41. REALIST says:

    Boring-in my opinion….

  42. harfang says:

Admittedly, it IS sort of shouting “Hey I Want to Be the New Uma Thurman” at me. But overall it looked pretty terrific before hitting my internal bitchy filter. Also, hey, if she HAS had work done, it’s damn tasteful. Smile lines and original bone structure intact.

  43. really says:

    pretty!
