Zac Efron says he loves to read the blogs; rumored to star in Pirates sequel

High School Musical star Zac Efron just turned 21 over the weekend. He celebrated with friends at an Italian restaurant in LA on Saturday, including his girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, and some of his costars. Ashley Tisdale, KayCee Stroh, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Brittany Snow were among the guests. According to People Magazine everyone had a fun but relatively low-key time.

Efron has a new interview with Star Magazine this week. He talked briefly about his longterm girlfriend Hudgens, 19, and sais she’s “a great girl.” He also said that he has trouble leading a normal life. Efron loves to google himself and read the blogs and says he finds the comments about him “hilarious.”

Q: Off screen, you and Vanessa are an item. How are things with your two?
Efron: All I can say is that Vanessa is a great girl.

Q: What’s it like to work so closely with your partner?
Efron: Well, we’ve been working together since the beginning of the audition process. I guess somehow the casting directors knew. We just immediately started having fun.

Q: Ever had a crazy fan experience?
Efron: Every once in a while, I get a great big hug and a kiss from someone I don’t know. It’s hard to have a normal life, because I get recognized. It’s a daily occurrence. But I’m cool with it.

Q: Do you Google yourself?
Efron: Yeah, I do. I like to read the blogs. I love the discussions online. They’re hilarious. I try not to look that often, because it can either give you a big head or tear you down.

Efron sounds like he has a great attitude about it and I love that he admits that he reads the blogs. It’s something few celebrities will own up to, and a lot of them are likely to avoid for good reason.

Efron may be headed for even more stardom beyond the High School Musical series. The National Enquirer reports that now that when Johnny Depp initially ruled out starring in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, Disney executives approached Zac Efron to take over the role. Efron was enthusiastic about it, and when Depp eventually agreed to come back for a $55 million salary they decided to make Efron his sidekick. There has been no mention of Orlando Bloom making another appearance, and he has said that he would rather move away from the series. That leaves a definite lack of younger hunks and Efron fits the bill nicely.

As part of his deal with Disney, Efron agreed to appear in High School Musical 4, something he was previously reluctant to do. Efron will command $10 million for the Pirates role and is being groomed as a replacement for Johnny Depp in future Pirates Movies.

Efron’s new film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, premieres in the US on October 24. Here’s the trailer:

As the cabin boy who gets passed around like a bottle of wine, no doubt.

I wonder if he’s going to read this…

Zac, you’re a cutie, in an utterly non-threatening way. That’s fine for now, but at some point you might want to be a little bit edgy. Go with that instinct! Also, stop wearing so much make-up. And yes, we can tell.

Man, this is like the musical equivalent to Saved By the Bell. So the 4th installment will be undoubtedly labeled “the college years”, and once that’s old hat, bring on “the new class”.

The only question remaining, who’s the “Skreech” of the cast that will never move on?

Seriously. He will be great looking as soon as Disney lets it’s resident Pretty Boy off the leash. He needs to edge it up…However Pirates is a great franchise, I’m just not sure how the next will be.

    (P.S. dump the broad.)

He has nice regular features. If he only looked like a man instead of a teenage boy. And his GF is a slut.

My mom has a crush on him. It is cute, weird and cougariffic. Seriously, I didn’t know who he was until Hairspray. Weirdness.

(My mom and I probably aren’t considered young anymore, btw)

I can see Efron’s character in the new Pirates movie being the child between Bloom and Knightley. He can look younger, right? But I seriously doubt that he’ll be in the movie cause it just might be gossip. If he does appear in it, it’ll be the first movie I’ve seen with him in it ever.

Looks like he has glitter in his eyebrows.

I really hope he isnt in Pirates 4. I love me some Johnny but I just might have to wait until its on dvd if Efron is in it. I’ve never seen High School Musical but seeing him in Hairspray really was enough for me. He’s much too pretty and young to take Orlando’s place.

Yeah, slap a wig on him, mascara and some blusher and you’ve got a very pretty female lead. He will definitely need to ‘up the edgy factor’ if he thinks he even has a chance competing with Johnny Depp.

And what…? Are you kidding me? More Pirates movies after Johnny? No one will watch them so they shouldn’t get Zac’s hopes up. Seems like a nice kid and all… but he’s just too pretty to play a lead in anything but a kids series.

He did an interview with Star and they didn’t find out about his NEWEST upcoming project.

According to a recent interview with Kenny Ortega, he is going to be working with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens in a remake of West Side Story. :-) :-) :-)

    Oooooooooh vdantev.
Its 4am and I just almost bit my tongue off trying not to wake up the whole building sniggering at your comment.
    That’s funny as f**k.
I mean eyes watering hand over the mouth biting the pillow (hahahaahhahaa)
    laffing my ass off.
‘Cuz I immediately got a picture in my head that’ll make it very hard to take this movie seriously when it comes out.
I really WANNA like this kid but he kinda weirds me out. He looks like a girl with hormone problems.
Mr Depp USED to have the same effect on me but as he got older and more manly he really grew on me. Its ironic they wind up in a flick together.
Ohhhhhh man – that was a good laff though.
    You a funny man.

  15. Of study training course, who can overlook Pirates of the Caribbean? There are multiple characters to determine on from. You can go from Jack Sparrow, with his hat, sword, and black eye liner, goatee, to Davy Jones and his tentacles. No issue what you arrive to a choice, this concept will make heads flip, irrespective of no matter whether it genuinely is for trick or managing or just partying with friends.
