Kate Hudson & Matt Bellamy name their son Bingham “Bing” Hawn Bellamy

wenn3191690

I know there is going to be a lot of fighting over this one, but I just want to say at the beginning that I don’t hate it. Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy have released the name of their newborn son, who Kate gave birth to on Saturday. The name? Bingham Hawn Bellamy. “Hawn” for Kate’s mom, Goldie Hawn, I’m just taking a wild guess. Kate did that with Ryder too – Ryder’s middle name is Russell, after Kurt Russell, Kate’s stepfather and the man who raised her since she was very, very young. Screw you guys, I think “Bingham Hawn” is SO CUTE.

[From Matt’s Twitter]

Matt wrote “Bing” on his Twitter, like it was already the kid’s official nickname, like they’re just going to be calling him Bing Bellamy. See? How does that not make you laugh… in delight? It’s adorable! Bing Bellamy is the sidekick in a hilarious slapstick romantic comedy in 1948. Bing Bellamy is a song and a dance man. Bing Bellamy can do the Jitterbug. Bing Bellamy went to dinner with Sinatra in Palm Springs, and Bing Bellamy played craps with Dean Martin. BING BELLAMY RULES!

PS… Please don’t make a million “Chandler Bing” references. Please DO make a million Bing Crosby references.

    Sorry, but that sounds dumb.

  2. Lol says:

    I LOVE that name!

  3. TQB says:

Makes me think of the stupid search engine ads. I hope Microsoft paid for the endorsement.

I wonder if he made the “BING” noise when he “popped out.”

    I’m naming my kid Google+.

  4. junk573r says:

I still can’t believe she got knocked up by him. I hope she doesn’t yoko him. Black Crows sort of flailed and died..I like Muse…fuck!

  5. Boo says:

    Bing is the new Dweezil.

  6. Sophie says:

aw, the more I think about it, the more I love it. very sweet. congrats to the happy family!

  7. Schnauzers!!! says:

Umm…well he’s their baby…:) But I did the Bing Crosby reference so YIPPIE SKIPPY!!!

  8. Catherine says:

As long as she is happy and healthy along with the baby, who cares. Congrats to them.

  9. gillociraptor says:

I hope she gives an alliterative name to her next kid, too, whoever the father may be!

  10. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Bing Bellamy. That’s a stupid name, tell me why it’s not.

  11. Madisyn says:

    Don’t likey!

  12. MeMyself says:

Bingham is the name of one of my uncles so therefore a beloved family name.

    And everyone loves Uncle Bing.

  13. Lucky Charm says:

LOL, I totally didn’t even think about the Chandler Bing reference, the first thing that popped into my head when seeing that name was Bing Crosby, since he was also a singer (like Matt is)…Anyway, congrats to the happy family and welcome Bing Bellamy!

  14. fabchick says:

    I don’t like it. Sorry 🙁

  15. Anne de Vries says:

    sponsored by Microsoft?

  16. Violet says:

It’s much better than Moroccan or Harper Seven. (The latter makes me think of a Cylon version of the Canadian prime minister.)

That said, most people are going to think of Chandler rather than Crosby. But it could be worse — Elizabeth Hurley named her son Damian, not realizing the name is widely associated with the classic horror film “The Omen”!

  17. CallieTrichid says:

I like it. Better than naming your kid Jaden, Isabella/Bella, Edward, or Neveah.

  18. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

    Bada Bing!

  19. girl says:

I’m not a big fan of alliteration when it comes to baby names (or cutsie name patterns) but Bingham is cute. And it made me think of Bing Crosby, not known as a great guy in real life from what I’ve heard but a legendary performer. I didn’t think if Chandler Bing until you mentioned it.

  20. Quest says:

I hope she is a huge Friends fan – Chandler “Bing”.

  21. Nikki Girl says:

Not really into the name, but it’s their kid, not mine. Though it’s not totally related, I still don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell these two are going to last.

  22. Annie_Grey says:

Well, Kurt’s father BING was a good guy, and it honors both her parents. So, I don’t see the problem.

  23. Jingo Jango says:

Bing Bong Bellamy! Sounds like a bridge to a song. Oh wait it’s Bing Hawn Bellamy.

  24. Lemon Poundcake says:

    It’s Chanandler Bong!

  25. BW says:

I always liked Mr. Bingham better than Mr. Darcy. At least she picked a real, old fashioned name, rather than the room in their house where he was conceived (Moroccan, cough cough).

  26. Coco says:

Bingham is Matt’s mother’s maiden name and also Kurt Russell’s father is named Bing, here you go 😀

    I think is really cute.

  27. the original bellaluna says:

    Oh, dear. Oh my, NO.

  28. chasingadalia says:

Much better than Morrocan, or any of the other names CallieTrichid already mentioned, so I like it.

  29. gee says:

It’s adorable, and it has significance so it’s even better. Well doneee

  30. Obvious says:

It’s….interesting….i like it and hate it all at the same.

  31. madpoe says:

Sad thing ’bout Bing…Can’t wait to hear what the kids in the school yard rhyme Bing with.

  32. jayem says:

    @LemonPoundcake – It’s MISS Chanandler Bong!!

  33. benny says:

There’s nothing wrong with “Bing” or “Bingham” — unless your last name starts with “Bell.” Then it’s just stupid.

  34. Gossip Owl says:

Compared to a lot of other weirdo celebrity kids names, I am okay with this. Plus I think her grandfather’s name was Bing, wasn’t it? Either way, I don’t LOVE it but I don’t hate it. At least it’s a name that makes sense to me.

  35. OtherChris says:

I don’t mind the name but I seriously doubt she pushed “intensely” for 4.5 hours.

  36. Granger says:

I don’t like it — but after reading Coco’s history of the name, I think it’s a sweet gesture on Matt and Kate’s part. What a coincidence, though, that his mom’s maiden name and Kurt’s dad’s first name would be the same!!!!

  37. WOM says:

Ryder Russell Robinson and Bing Bellamy. Someone sure likes alliteration.

  38. buckley says:

Love the name, not so much the shortening of it.

  39. bugsy says:

I actually really love it! It’s totally a name I’d use!

  40. Enny says:

Aw, it’s cute, it’s unique (in a good way), and it honors the grandparents. Seriously, what’s not to like?

  41. the original bellaluna says:

@ LemonPoundcake & jayem – Actually, I think it was Mrs. Chanandler Bong.

  42. Rosi says:

    nuts.

  43. Maritza says:

At least Bing is better than Bong.

  44. Meg says:

actually bing crosby beat the hell out of his kis, 2 of them killed themselves. not a connotation i’d like to have for my kid.

  45. Jana says:

What is this trend of ugly names with celebs? The worst so far lately is Agnes, Jennifer’s Connelley’s daughter.

  46. Amy says:

this has to be one of the most hilarious names I’ve heard in awhile. I totally thought of Friends at first but now I’m just going to think of the “information overload” commercials of the Bing search engine.

  47. Larissa says:

Sorry, Bing Bellamy just sounds wrong!

  48. carrie says:

it’s ok for me and congrats for every one

  49. NaomiCampbellsPhone says:

“More turkey Meester Chandlerr?” I know you said not to go there but I couldn’t help it!

  50. serena says:

I just found out that Kurt Russell dad’s name was Bing.

  51. Mary Jane says:

Love the “Hawn,” but WTF is “Bingham?”
I understand the “giving” of family names (my daughter’s middle name is “Ruth” and I’m sure she hates it!), but “Bing?”

Was he conceived in Binghampton? Is Micro$oft going to sue or pay the happy couple a monthly stipend? Was Kate and Mr. Bellamy eating pork with cherries when they conceived?

  52. Mary Jane says:

    I know, I know… darn auto-correct…
    Binghamton…
    Sorry SUNY friends!

  53. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

At least it’s not named Lola. The baby’s sex doesn’t enter into it, what gender pops out at you when hear dumb names like ‘Zuma’ and ‘Puma’? Neither,as it reeks too highly of, ‘Another dickslap celebrity who needs more attention’. Nero was an actor/musician too, so whatever on you. But Lola? I don’t understand the celebrity obsession with that somewhat under ‘above board’ moniker. It’s not really the name itself, but it suggests a career path, that’s all I’m saying. You couldn’t name a girl BrandiiiiiiXXX and expect anything but it ending in tears. Same for Moxie KlaatuFighter, or whatever. Always think when naming a child: will this name get my kid beat up, or just remind people of a legendary child abuser? Maybe just don’t name your kid, ‘Starring Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford and Kate Middleton as the wire hanger she loved’, we can concentrate on fractions and gym later.

  54. Mary Jane says:

P.S. LOVE the shoes in the header pic…

  55. Kloops says:

Silly name. As expected. S’okay, it keeps the normal names for the normal folks.

  56. l says:

As others have said its her grandfathers name and his mothers maiden name, so its okay with me. Family history trumps for me personally…

  57. Camille says:

    Ridiculous.

  58. Isa says:

Not crazy about it but love that it’s after her family. Very sweet.

I thought of Chandler Bing at first, not gonna lie.

Naming a baby is HARD! We’ve picked out three first names: Jacob, Austin and Jackson and that’s as far as we’ve gotten. And we only have 6 weeks left!

  59. argirl says:

Those shoes are fierce! Plus Mr. Darcy is much better than Mr. Bingham. Both are good though. At least it’s not Wickham. LOL

  60. Granger says:

It was Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice — not Mr. Bingham.

  61. HappyMom says:

I like it a lot. And the first time around I pushed for 31/2 hours so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that she pushed for a long time (especially because she had a c-section with her first).

  62. ElleGin says:

@junk573r, Oh come on! She is hardly at the Yoko level 😉 I mean, Yoko is YOKO.

I like the name. It’s a lot better than Cruz, Romeo, Peaches, etc. lol and she has her reasons to name him Bingham. It wasn’t so much a “I’m a celeb so I’ll give my child a weird name” moment.

  63. april says:

Isa – I love your baby names. Of the three, my favorite is Jackson.

  64. Hannah says:

Still not as bad as Natalie Portman’s new son whose name is Aleph–the 1st letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I.e., her son’s name in English is A.

  65. Jana says:

@Jo, I disagree. I love the name Lola.

  66. Summer2011 says:

Bing was Kurt’s fathers name. Very nice gesture!

  67. Melancholy says:

Michael.K predicted Ring Dem Bellamy. Which is hilarious and I wish they had used it.

  68. original kate says:

bing bellamy is…not good. makes me think of the bada bing. or chandler bing. or bing crosby.

  69. Isa says:

    april(? can’t see your name)

That’s the one everyone seems to go for! And would nickname him Jax. I’m just not sure about it with his middle name (Fletcher) and our last name which is 7 letters. Very long name. *sigh* It’s so hard!!! 🙂

  70. Baylor says:

She pushed?! Didn’t she say she had a C-section the first time?! Surprised they let her try to give birth vaginally.

  71. dovesgate says:

I like Bingham Bellamy Hawn better but thats just me. Rolls off the tongue better.

If the name doesn’t roll off your tongue when your kid does something like stuff a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the VCR or if she dumps a whole bottle of nail polish on the dog, then you don’t give your child that name. Personal opinion of course.

  72. dovesgate says:

@Baylor From what I understand, some doctors are more willing to let a woman try natural before going straight to the c-section even if she has had one before. I have friends who had a c-section first who had natural the next time and yet my sister in law wasnt given the option to even try. Probably depends on the circumstances/age/health/Lord only knows what.

  73. Laura says:

God, No. Thats just a ridiculous name, and usually I LOVE weird celebrity names.

  74. lily says:

Wow lola is beautful an Bing Bellamy is cute love d name choices
