Here we have Swedish hottie Alex Skarsgard receiving an honorary arts doctorate from Leeds University in England. I guess we can call him “Doctor” Skarsgard now. Alex, 34, spent six months studying English at Leeds with a friend in 1996 after he completed a service of 18 months in the Swedish military. (He was in an anti-terrorism unit!) He admitted to spending more time partying than studying when he was at Leeds, and in 1997 he headed to New York city to study theater at Marymount Manhattan College.
I can’t confirm whether or not Alex completed his undergraduate degree, but I had a nice time reading through his old interviews trying to figure it out. I particularly enjoyed this transcript of a live chat interview he did with Aftonbladet in 2002. He gamely answered tons of random questions thrown at him by fans, and some of his responses were really funny. Here are some of my favorites:

One fan asked him “do you weight yourself every morning?” and instead of just saying yes or no, he stated “I weigh 86kg.” That’s 189.5 pounds and he’s 6’4″. I thought his BMI would be lower actually, but there’s so much muscle in there. That was way back in 2002 though, so he may have lost weight since.
Getting back to these adorable pictures, he looks like the new defense against the dark arts teacher at Hogwarts, the one who has all the girls drooling and staring in rapt attention.

It’s an honorary degree, he didn’t actually “increase his knowledge” like the other graduates who worked for, and finished, their degrees.

189 lbs on a tall frame is not a lot. I would say that he has put on weight and is probably over 200lbs now with his muscle mass. If he weighed 189 lbs at 6’4″ he would be incredibly thin.
I know that this will sound silly, but when you’re tall the standard ideas of weight don’t apply. People have a mental concept of what 150lbs looks like for a woman or 189 lbs for a man, but often they are conceptually comparing this weight to a person who is inches shorter. Add to that the illusion of thiness that height gives.
So what exactly did he do to earn this?
I like the guy but c’mon…

Honorary degrees are always just nice ways to get a but of publicity for a school, he even said in his little speech that he didn’t think he really deserved it, but was still gracious as usual. He and Kate haven’t been seen together for almost 3 months probably broke up.

I do believe that is the Skarsdong making an appearance! I don’t know why I haven’t noticed this before considering he wears suits to a lot of things. At first it seemed like it’d be too long but then I remembered a video I saw of him in an old film in which you can see “little” Alex and yeah it’s the right length.
I can’t believe I know this but… in interviews Alex has said he dropped out of school. I think he had a girlfriend in Sweden and he missed her too much. Then his (adult) acting career took off. (That’s adult as in grown up, not porn.)

He really is my ideal in superficial terms: European (I love Scandinavian, Eastern European and Irish/Scotish/Welsh the most), tall (I love guys 6’3 and over), blue/green eyes (ginger men and blondes are the best) and still moderately humble (for Hollowood standards at least) with a good sense of humor!
