Rihanna finally gives up the Kool-Aid hair, disrespects Britney & Adele?

rihanna_03_wenn3452580

Is this international “Bitch Got A New Wig” Day and no one told me? While I think Gaga is All-Wig at this point, I’ve always had my doubts about Rihanna. I suspect that she does wigs and weaves at various times, but I also think she actually dyed her natural hair to that God-awful Kool-Air red-pink shade, and then she kept it like that for more than a year. So what is going on with her hair in these photos (from last night in Beverly Hills)? Is this a new wig, or did Rihanna dye her hair back to a color found in nature?

Whatever is happening, though, Rihanna looks good. I really like the idea of this outfit too – great booty shorts, cute top and boots. But I took a closer look at the boots, though, and they are not so cute in closeup. They look like a peep-toe torture device designed to amputate your big toe. Go ahead and yell at me, those things are hideous. Peep-toe boots are so dumb.

rihanna_19_wenn3452596

Also: Rihanna is in some trouble right now because during the course of a recent interview, she named the five women she thought were dominating pop music right now, and she failed to name Britney Spears. And ADELE. Ugh. Rihanna said:

“There’s a pack. It’s me, Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé… who else? Ke$ha for sure. Women are definitely dominating music right now, and that’s because we are competitive beings. I feel like music hasn’t been this exciting in a while. All my friends are guys, to be completely honest. But when I met her [Katy Perry], it was such a breath of fresh air. I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button… Katy and Lady Gaga came out of the gate exactly the way they think, the way they wanna dress, the way they wanna speak.”

[From Glamour via Billboard]

Does anyone else get the feeling that Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce and Katy Perry are supremely threatened by someone like Adele, someone who doesn’t rely on a garbage pail of neon-candy imagery and immature “sex appeal” to sell music? I’m really getting the feeling that pop stars with little to no natural talent really dislike Adele.

  1. Tigger says:

Lulz, of course Rihanna would dislike Adele. Adele has much, much more talent than she could ever comprehend.

  2. scotchy says:

hmm i don’t know, i don’t think she was trying to intentionally ignore Adele
i think she is just friends with the other two, and perhaps i am giving her too much credit, but i don’t get the impression she is threatened by Adele, but perhaps because Adele doesn’t use auto-tune, or synthesized beats, Rihanna doesn’t consider her a “pop” artist.

  3. Eve says:

She’s really pretty with a darker hair color and the boots would be perfect if it wasn’t for the peep toe thing.

  4. Rita says:

The “over the top” stunts by pop artists become borish very quickly and then the artist simply looks desperate. Adele’s voice and persona stand on their own and music lovers appreciate the music, not the theatrics so yes, desperate artists feel threatened.

By the way, unless she drops her shorts, I can’t tell what her natural hair color is.

  5. brin says:

I see she named herself first…lol.
Like this hair color much better than that bright red.
    *Hi Rita!*

  6. Jackson says:

I’m not gonna knock the boots only because she changed her hair. Amen to that. RIP Clown Hair. Hopefully.

  7. cici says:

well…adele really doesn’t fit in that “pack” to be honest. That’s a compliment. She’s a singer, she’s not a pop tartlet who has to put on wigs and dance to her songs cause her songs aren’t shit. I think Rihanna’s right about who’s in her group,a nd I wouldn’t have included Adele either cause Adele is in another class.

I think the real diss here is to Beyonce, she made her an afterthought. lol

  8. WildChild says:

This site has turned into a hate forum for anyone not named Adele. This is ridiculous. Why can’t people like more than one artist?

  9. Atticus says:

WOW, she is just stunningly gorgeous. That face…she’s just a beauty.

Adele is in a comopletely different genre so I don’t think that was an insult of omission. And I don’t think of Adele as “pop” – which to me means manufactured, auto-tuned shizz like the “artists” Rihanna named. Don’t get me wrong…I like it, too, when I’m in the mood for mindless fun music but never in a million years would Adele be anywhere near that category.

Britney being left out is a bigger snub. Kesha being named over Britney is something but I don’t think it was anything malicious.

  10. Toot says:

Maybe she doesn’t think of Adele as “Pop Music”. She may not even meant it as a diss, and I don’t think Britney is dominating anything right now.

  11. lucy2 says:

Rihanna probably just forgot her. I think her choices (and wardrobe) speak to her lack of brain power.

But all of those pop “stars” have to feel threatened – with no gimmicks, costumes, or auto-tune, Adele has stayed on the top of the charts for months now. She’s the real deal.

  12. RocketMerry says:

Adele shows that “pack” how it’s done, any day of the week. See, they consider their music “exciting”, while confusing their dumb, chaotic clothes and hair with “music”.
Exciting music does not need costume changes and wigs.

  13. madpoe says:

Yup. It would seem the people with little or no talent bulk and make a fuss and stomp their diva shoes. While those with real talent, keep their mouths shut. No worries Adele. Let ’em all hate on you now, in 20 years you’ll still be relevant they won’t be.

  14. Noooooobama says:

Rihanna is a low class S&M fetish untruthful flash in the pan. Really, she looks like a ton of crack ho’s ive seen throughout Oakland,ca. Only diff is she sings. (And not that well)
She knows Adele can actually sing. The kind of soul singing that makes the hair on the back of your neck and arms stand straight up. Beyonce can sing too,(better than Rihannas nasal whining) its an insult to have her compared to Rihanna. Cant wait for the day Rihanna is forgotten. Trust, she’s a twisted girl on the down low.

  15. Dhavy says:

Its not that we dont like anyone but Adelle but in my case I LOVE talented singers not ass-shakers

hate those type of boots too

  16. Cindy says:

“Kesha for sure”?????? I don’t even like pop music, it’s too fake, gimmicky and full of itself (Tired of Gaga acting like she’s cured cancer because she’s released two whole dance albums.) But even I know that Kesha < Britney or Christina. I doubt Adele spends much time worrying about being part of this particular club.

  17. gillie says:

I dont think of Adele as a “pop” artist. Maybe Rhianna doesnt either?

And really– I hear more Kesha on the radio than Britney, so… yeah, I understand the omission.

  18. Anonymous says:

adele is much more than pop music.rhianna knows they’re from different galaxies

  19. Phoenix says:

To be honest I probably wouldn’t have listed Adele either. I just don’t associate her with the Gagas, Beyonces, Katy Perrys and Rihannas. Ke$ha though? Seriously?

  20. jover says:

wildchild in what universe is riri an “artist?” she doesn’t read music, write music, play an instrument and her autotuned “singing” is worse than hearing goats being strangled. Like so many terms, the term “artist” has been used so cavalierly that it has no meaning. Riri is a corporate label created product shilling consumer goods and has less authentic edge than an angry blue smurfette. Like her “music” which she doesn’t create if you want, but don’t call her an “artist”.

  21. Dizzybenny says:

I’m not crazy about Rhianna but maybe she meant in the US right now.
Britney is not at the top.She barely can dance on stage and the sexy image thing she still pushing aint working anymore.
    Adele rules!!

  22. Mia says:

If she doesn’t think Britney is on the top of pop, why she invited Brit to remix her song and to perform live with her? BTW, S&M only made to the top with Britney.

  23. Laura says:

Yeah, I don’t think Adele is really in the same genre necessarily. And Britney, well, I wouldn’t really consider her on top anymore. I can tell I’m old because while i think those boots are cute, the grown up in me is like, damn, my toes would get cold, those aren’t practical at all!

  24. Praise St. Angie! says:

“Does anyone else get the feeling that Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce and Katy Perry are supremely threatened by someone like Adele, someone who doesn’t rely on a garbage pail of neon-candy imagery and immature “sex appeal” to sell music?”

    yes.

    the end.

  25. Kaboom says:

Adele isn’t part of that pack, she’s an order of magnitude ahead on talent. “Set fire to the rain” is all I’ll say on the matter.

  26. 4Real says:

This is the best I’ve seen her in a loooong time so I can’t hate on the boots. BEYONCE??! Girl please…just stop (facepalm).

  27. LucyOriginal says:

I think she changed her hair because she ended her tour last week. Yeah, I did go to her concert, it was ok. The costumes were horrible and I did not get any artistical concept behind the loud tour. I saw once and won’t see it again.

“someone who doesn’t rely on a garbage pail of neon-candy imagery and immature “sex appeal” to sell music? I’m really getting the feeling that pop stars with little to no natural talent really dislike Adele.” I believe Adele is younger than all of them. What a lesson of talent and elegance.

  28. Cleo says:

Rihanna’s songs are very difficult to sing and to pull off yet Rihanna manages to do both. There have been plenty of live performances recorded where she sounds perfect but definitely not lip-synching.

  29. Leigh says:

I actually understand the omission. Adele’s music is popular by virtue of its beauty, range and raw emotion but not what most would call ‘pop music’ by any stretch.

Pop music used to equal ‘popular’ music but is really its own animal these days…

But what do I know, I’m a musical philistine.

  30. Kaiser says:

I said “pop music” not Rihanna. RiRi just said “music” – which means she should have included Adele.

By the way, I do think Adele should be considered “pop”. She gets a ton of radio play and she’s put in the same music categories as Rihanna, Beyonce, etc.

  31. Leigh says:

    @Kaiser
I stand corrected 🙂 Told you I was a musical philistine.

By virtue of her answer, not including Adele as dominating right now is slap-worthy.

  32. Enny says:

Kaiser, I would only yell at you if you DID like those boots!

And I’m pretty sure Beyonce would stick up for Adele here. They seem to have a mutual girl-crush on each other.

I get omitting Britney – she’s but a shell of her former self – but including Ke$hit??? Gurl…

  33. Quest says:

I would expect RiRi to dislike anyone who has raw talent like Adele, who don’t have to resort to showing her buscuits and booty to distract from their music.

It is not the boots but RiRi’s huge ugly ass toes that is making the boots look like crap up close…her hair is looking great

  34. endoplasmic_ridiculum says:

Rihanna has the most NASAL voice ever.

Add the autotune and the shitty lyrics..
“sex in the air, you know I like the smell of it”

    OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  35. tapioca says:

Oh, how I long for the day when every teenage girl stands up as one and says “Enough!!” to all the pseudo-musicians/strippers clogging up the airwaves like yesterday’s congealed bacon fat and voted with their parent’s wallets to support artists for whom the music is more important than the “controversial” video or the near-naked GQ spread.

I feel we’re already scraping the bottom of the barrel if the auto-tuned pablum of Rihanna, (to a lesser extent) Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Ke$ha is the best we can muster.

And I’ve just realised I sound exactly like my parents…

  36. haley says:

LOL i wouldnt name britney as a top pop musician either. she’s a woman-child and ALL of the other musicians that Rhianna named (including Katy Perry and Ke$ha) have more talent than she does. they can at least dance and put on a show without looking like they’re going to die from exhaustion after the first three songs. i tagged along with my friend to a britney show, i know what i’m talking about.

  37. ladybert62 says:

She is a pretty girl who wears trashy clothes – this outfit included.

Here Clarabell the clown hair color is gone and this color is better – she still needs a decent cut and stlye.

  38. girlwithapearl says:

She mentions “KESHA FOR SURE” and SNUBS ADELE?! WTF.
Also, I’m going to take her generalization of ALL MUSIC as pop music. Which is true. But pop music is not all music. For instance, men generally dominate rap and punk-rock.

  39. Jen says:

Of course they’re going to be afraid of ADELE. She hasn’t bitten the “you must look how we want you and you must perform kitchy pop music” apple. ADELE is a singer…not a pop star. (of course in the sense of cookie cutter industry made “artists”.)

  40. Rhiley says:

I ain’t going to yell at you Kaiser cause those boots with the toe are so gross. All I can think is “SHOEHAN!”

  41. lrm says:

Adele is a singer as said by others…
Rhianna is a pop star/entertainer-two totally different things.

And as for Brittany, well, no, she is not int he top 5 right now. She may be top 5 forever, like Madonna, but as far as dominance on the radio, itunes, etc., then Rhianna has it right.

Adele is not in the same category as the people she mentioned-she is not an entertainer.

The ‘we are competitive beings’ b.s. is hilarious. whatever. RiRi….
and kesha sucks so badly-i cringe when i hear her songs; they are toxic to me.
And katy perry while not toxic to me, always gives me a nauseated annoyed feeling b/c of how badly she sucks.

And i’ve stated too many times how much i hate lady gaga-b/c she’s a knock off with a good voice/music skills, but she has allowed ppl to think she is an original. if she owned up to being influenced and being a newer version of others, then i woudl accept and even respect her for what she offers. but as it stands, she repulses me, frankly. and i refuse to read any posts about her anymore.

Also just looking at gaga, makes me creeped out. she is haunting in a programmed/possessed way. something ain’t clean in the milk.

so that leaves Bey and RiRi. I can’t believe I just typed their nicknames.
But they are the best of the bunch she mentioned. And i hear Beyonce does give a kick butt show. so i will leave it at that.
Though I hate that rhianna song about S and M. I feell ike she is just singing for attention and it nothing like that in real life. Poseur.

  42. the original bellaluna says:

All hail the death of the Rihanna McDonald Hair. (Praise jeebus!)

And I refuse to even address the Adele issue. My feelings are well-known.

  43. KLO says:

Adele leaves me cold. Sorry. Yea she’s a nice talented girl, bla bla. But the only girls on the list that are less vocally talented than Adele are Katy Perry and Kesha. The rest can all sing just as well.

  44. nikki says:

I don’t think she meant to snub anyone, she was naming women in the music industry who see playing music as a competition to stay relevant through their fashion choices. Of course adele wouldn’t come to mind since she actually just wants to make great music rather than be a character.

  45. Leslie0195 says:

wildchild in what universe is riri an “artist?” she doesn’t read music, write music, play an instrument and her autotuned “singing” is worse than hearing goats being strangled. Like her “music” which she doesn’t create if you want, but don’t call her an “artist”.
    AMEN to that.

“pack” is a perfect way to describe that group. No distinction among them, it’s all beats and crappy lyrics. You know parents love to hear their kids sing along with “sex in the air, you know I like the smell of it”. Grossed me out too endoplasmic!

“pop” used to mean popular . . . now I think a more accurate translation is “manufactured” . . .

  46. F5 says:

Agree with KLO. Adele does nothing for me.. is that the big girl? It’s showbiz ffs, everything counts and yeah, has to be visually appealing. Adele annoys me to no end.

  47. Dave in MN says:

“Kesha for sure”? Seriously? Why didn’t she just go ahead and include Rebecca Black on the list?

  48. hoganbcmj says:

As much as I think Rihanna is a skank, I think she: A, doesn’t think Britney is dominating music right now; and B, Adele just isn’t on her radar because Adele isn’t a sleasy, slutty, oversexed ho-bag. If someone brought up Adele, she’d probably say something like, oh, ya, she’s very talented.

But all these pop tarts care about is being popular and sexy anyway. Rihanna can’t possibly think or probably doesn’t even care that Adele is ten times more talented. It’s old cliche by now, some people get famous because they are talented (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen), some claw their way up using sex (Britney, Rihanna, Katy Perry), some do it with a combination of both ways (Gaga, Beyonce, Xtina).

  49. Masque says:

I hate that I’m going to defend Rihanna (because usually I think she’s a no talent nitwit) but in all fairness, I don’t know many people who know who Adele is so I wouldn’t say Adele is “dominating” the industry/charts. However, I’m working on educating as many people as I can so I’m sure that domination will be in effect within a few weeks. 🙂

  50. Anonymous says:

Finally, someone agees with me. Peep toe boots ugly and dumb.

  51. Mingy says:

those boots match nicely with her skin tone..fak im so jealous of her legs. but i agree that peep toe boots are stupid.

like brin, lol at her naming herself first..adele not being included in the ho pack is a very good thing.

  52. Cami says:

I wouldn’t qualify Adele’s music as pop, nor I would say she is a popstar.
My definition of a popstar is someone who sings pop music and materializes it onto pop imagery, it’s very visual. Adele said herself she doesn’t make music for the eyes. Of course, Adele is way too good to be a popstar.

But Britney was a crime that she didn’t mention, Britney is the mother of all these new generation of popstar. Anything they’re doing now, Britney has already done in the 90s and early 2000s.

  53. G says:

Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me. You seriously think she was intentionally snubbing Adele? It seems like she was just naming a few women off the top of her head, of course she wasn’t going to mention everybody. She and Adele don’t even make the same kind of music, why would she feel “threatened” by her? She answered a question by saying how nice it is that there are a lot of other successful women in the industry right now, and you turned it into yet another example of how women are stereotypically catty bitches. Nice.

I don’t even like Rihanna much (the new hair looks good, though) but this article is nothing but a bunch of assumptions based on nothing. Which is kind of becoming a trend on this site.

  54. Riana says:

I would NEVER call Adele a pop artist, that seems far more insulting than supposedly snubbing her. So…I’m guessing folks are just mad at Rihanna having a different opinion now.

    Nice. SMH.

  55. fabchick says:

Like others have said Adele is not pop. Adele is in her own category. She makes grown folks music. Rihanna makes pop/dance/teenybop music. These ladies are not similar at all. Love them both.

  56. Riana says:

@g yeah I’ve noticed that too, every gossip site has folks they hate and everything they do or don’t do is a crime even if it’s harmless

  57. MariPily says:

Let’s be honest… without the Rihanna’s, Beyonce’s, Katy Perry’s, Britney’s and Kesha’s of the world…what the hell would you dance to at the club? You can’t exactly bump and grind to Adele. So while I absolutely LOVE Adele…there’s no need to diss the manufactured shizz, it serves it purpose when you want get pissy drunk and rub up on a guy at the hottest club in town. Adele is more meaningful music.

  58. Polkasox says:

Maybe Adele didn’t pop into her head cause she hasn’t been super popular for very long? It sounds like she listed a bunch of girls that have been dominating (good music or not) for a while now. You honestly can’t include Adele in that group, she’s still fairly new to the mainstream.

  59. cici says:

w/out the riris, katys, etc in the world, you would still have music bukmping in the club. Cause riri and katy are producer creations. They are interchangeable, and with be exchanged for other new pop girls soon enough.

  60. honeybunxo says:

imma need riri to sit all the way down…take a seat HUUUny —>>> \_ yes those poptarts with sprinkles are very jealous of adele!! i admit i love adeles music but im weary of her because shes a lapdog for beyonce…so her taste is very questionable to me right now!! i sincerely hope she doesnt shake hands with the devil and just sticks to her God given talent and continue with her honest success but riri beebee gagme and kper and heck britbrit is on my radar cuz she shook hands with minaj and well its that whole death by association thing that bothers me…but there all gimmicks…there all baphomet supporters…ive been doing research and my jaw dropped at things ive read and pics ive seen..its actually quite disturbing…but yea i have erased all of the above **except gaga cuz she was never there** from my playlists cuz i cant support artist like them…i enjoy my soul..its peaceful its aware and it allows me to sleep thru the night…but boy oh boy if it doesnt get coffee in the morn it can be a real bish!!! Lol

  61. bogie says:

    @hoganbcmj

“It’s old cliche by now, some people get famous because they are talented (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen), some claw their way up using sex (Britney, Rihanna, Katy Perry), some do it with a combination of both ways (Gaga, Beyonce, Xtina).”

Agree with this totally. And for all the team Adele folks. Adele is not the only great young singer out there today. Some people do not get discussed because of lack of support from their label, community, and the media. Due to their race and not throwing out the sex like crazy they do not get backing. I want to hear more from Crisette Michelle and Jasmine Sullivan.

  62. hateonit. says:

adele is a soul singer. she is among the few and greatest. the rest of them like rhianna who I can’t stand are pop “artists.” kesha can’t sing. britney can’t sing beyonce can sing sometimes. and rhianna needs to stop “singing” immediately. all those “artists” are based on image. adele is thankfully not one of them.

  63. missy says:

You rock Riri and i like the new hair do!!!! hey u rock thesame short like Alicia keys.

  64. Amanda G says:

Honestly, I don’t think the “pack” think Adele is a threat because she has a totally different style of music. The real diss is to Britney, especially considering they remixed that awful song together.

  65. Jaye E says:

Or maybe you’re reading too damn much into her comments.

  66. Meg says:

britney is not ‘on top’ in my opinion

  67. Sugar says:

What, does EVERYONE have to worship Adele? I don’t know anyone who gives a toss about her OR her music. If I never hear her again, I probably wouldn’t notice. Honestly.

    • Angela says:

Thats funny,,,theres over 100 posts here from people who love Adele. I guess her lack of talent has forced every radio station in the US to play her songs every 5 to 10 mins.

  68. ADS says:

I think you’re projecting, Kaiser. I think she left out Adele from her ‘women who rule the charts’ comment because she decided to reel of names of the people she digs. I mean she mentioned Kesha and that bitch clearly runs nothing. Also, this perceived jealousy you can see is a ridiculous notion as there is plenty of room for all these bitches in the charts.

  69. mzjask says:

kesha reminds me of something i puked last week when i was hungover. or some dead carcass your cat drags in. i cant even name a song of hers, thank god i stopped listening to the radio years ago.
personally, i think this hair color looks better than that period stained fro she’s been sporting, but truth be told i dont get black girl hair, it all looks the same to me [real? a wig? idk..] it’s not so bad here tho. the outfit is typical forever 21 it looks like but i agree; what is the point of a boot with an open toe?? i never really got Rhian appeal. she seems [like the rest of the “pack”] that they are edgy to out-edge each other. competitive to no end yes. way to be a role-model for young ladies; lets compete. like if young girls today dont get enough of that in school. smh.
i’m glad she didn’t include adele in that mix- that would be the real insult. i dont even think adele considers herself part of that group. rhianna and the rest may be dominating right now; but Adele has Staying Power. her voice carries her, not her glitter and vadge grabbing onstage antics.

  70. MourningTheDeathofMusic says:

I’m going to go back to the topic of the peep-toe boots, I couldn’t agree more that they are pointless big-toe torture devices.

  71. Sheigh says:

Riri quotes : It’s me, Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé… who else? Ke$ha for sure
Find the error! Sometimes I want to say Bee, but sometimes she made too a lot of disillusioned shit songs!
Thank God, she forgot Adele or Alicia Keys! She’s kind so far far away, a true respectful diva!

  72. maddie says:

rihanna is talented, yes. but adele is WAYYY more talented. no offence.

  73. Marianne says:

So she’s dissing Adele because she didn’t mention her name? You are kidding me right? I love Adele and all, but not everyone needs to sing her praises every single minute.

  74. glowkey says:

So nobody’s considering the notion that maybe Adele just simply did not come to mind when Rihanna was asked this question? An omission doesn’t necessarily have to be intentional.

And @bogie: “And for all the team Adele folks. Adele is not the only great young singer out there today. Some people do not get discussed because of lack of support from their label, community, and the media. Due to their race and not throwing out the sex like crazy they do not get backing. I want to hear more from Crisette Michelle and Jasmine Sullivan.”

I totally agree. Not dissing Adele, but she is definitely not the only multi-talented artist out there who does not use sex and crotch flashes to win over fans. There are lots of ladies like Janelle Monae, Marsha Ambrosious, and Esperanza Spalding who are just as talented, if not more so. Adele is not the be-all, end-all and it doesn’t necessarily count as a snub simply because someone doesn’t ride her train. Or maybe Rihanna just isn’t a fan of hers for her own reason, like, you know, her *personal opinion* and therefore her thoughts didn’t even go down that route when she was thinking of artists to name.

  75. CJ says:

I just want Rihanna to go away and although I don’t totally despise them (but am close)I don’t mind if Beyonce and Katy Perry join her

  76. RuddyZooKeeper says:

If this band of overexposed, oversexed popstars feels threatened, it isn’t necessarily because of Adele personally but because of what she represents: a female artist with no expiration date. Rihanna and the girls she mentioned may have another good four or five years, but then the public will want fresh meat. Pop music eye candy has a strict shelf life–why else would the competition be so fierce?

  77. Carolyn says:

Am I the only one who thinks Rihanna looks “blah” in this hair colour? She loos like everyone else. I liked the red hair. She is a great video artist (looks great at close angle, styled beautifully and mimes well) but live in concert she’s really average. I went to one of her Aus shows and we all came out with the same opinion.

  78. Danziger says:

Or maybe, just maybe, Adele ain’t all that impressive. Sure, she has a voice on her, but that’s where her appeal to me ends. Gaga has a voice on her, too, you know.

I know you love Adele, but to think that Rihanna and others haven’t mentioned Adele because they feel ‘threatened’ by her is silly. Perhaps she didn’t come to her mind. Wouldn’t have come to my mind either tbh.

  79. bogie says:

    @glowkey

Thanks! Exactly, I enjoy the people you mentioned. I love Adele, but she is not the only one out there.

I liked her bright red hair, even though I felt as though it was a publicity stunt and she really isn’t eccentric enough to wear it without appearing contrived, but now she looks bland.

Those shoes are the stuff of nightmares.

I do find it kind of “strange” that she excluded Britney Spears because she collaborated with her on one of her songs, which is on way too heavy rotation. I hear that song every fifteen minutes at work. Actually, I’d say that song isn’t played much more than Britney Spears’ new song.

I feel that Britney Spears helped popularize female popstars again at a time when boybands were all the rage among a young audience. She’s kind of an icon.

On the other hand, Adele is more mature sounding than all of those other singers. She doesn’t really fit in with those other singers.

  81. Pirouette says:

Adele, BSpeared, and Rianna are better musicians than Kanye, Eminem, and other disappointing dudes that dominate our airwaves.

  82. scotchy says:

    @bogie & @glowkey,
its nice to finally see some post where people are talking about some of the many other talented female artists out there, i was beginning to think i was crazy for not being an adele fan.
i love a lot of the same singers you both mentioned:)

  83. bogie says:

    I love Kanye

    @scotchy
Yes there are plenty of people to choose from, but cannot depend on the radio or entertainment sites to speak about them. They have a very linear view. Whoever is gossip fodder …that is who they focus on.

  84. DetRiotgirl says:

    @glowkey and @danzinger I cosign!

I’m really getting tired of all the Adele worship here. Sure, she’s talented. But, lately I’ve been getting the vibe that if your opinion of her is anything less than completely enthralled, you will be beat up for it.

I freely admit, she does nothing for me. She can sing, and that’s about it. Her style of music has been done many times before by artists that I enjoy more than her. She’s pleasant enough to listen to, and I won’t ever object to having to hear her music. She just doesn’t impress me enough to actively seek her out.

Considering that story about little monsters beating up on Adele online, it’s kind of ironic that all this praise for Adele is strongly reminding me a lot of all the blind love people had for Gaga a year ago. Remember when people talked about Gaga as though she had reinvented pop music? I do. Everyone was copying Gaga! Everyone was making music like Gaga! It was ridiculous. It was as though everyone had forgotten the thousands of years of musically history that came before Xerox Madonna came out.

Right now, people are doing the same thing with Adele. No one has EVER sung pop soul music before! No one has ever written their own music! There are no other singers in the universe who actually sing! Frankly, it’s making it even more difficult for me to warm to her than if I had found her without all this insane hype.

Rihanna has little to no talent, and it always shocks me that she still has a career. Let alone such a successful one! But, I can’t fault her for this quote. She probably didn’t put a whole lot of thought into that list, and I think there’s way too much being read into it here.

  85. Callumna says:

Yes, makes sense. The pop tarts all sold sex or by most accounts in Rihanna’s case with Jay-Z actually slept to the top.

Adele’s doing it old school. If you were pretending to be a chess whiz but couldn’t play a game without a computer in your ear telling you the moves and suddenly a real chess player came along and made it really obvious to onlookers who was doing real work and who was smoke and mirrors you could see how the phonies might get threatened. Authenticity is such a breath of fresh air. Hard to believe anyone has gotten away with not singing live or writing their own “art” as long as they did.

  86. E Cross says:

    ummmm….making something out of nothing i think….way to fabricate a diss….

she didn’t ignore britney, britney is no longer the queen of pop. and maybe she just doesn’t consider adele “pop” music.

  87. Callumna says:

    Yanna

I’m Black and find it insulting that you think English white artists made American Black music popular. It’s not true. You stole it.

Look it up. Elvis was the British artists’ first inspiration. But he at least used to give credit to black music at times. But after Elvis the Brits hunted down black music and stole it.

The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Soft Cell etc. actually stole black musicians’ songs, called them “folk songs rearranged by (insert group)” and then copyrighted the music they stole and have been really sue happy with anyone ever since. Black Americans have nothing, and white Brits and Americans stole the one thing we had — our music. The blues came from surviving a lot worse than any middle class angst ridden Brit could ever know. Go back and study your history and give credit where credit is due.

Rap might be sketchy but at least it’s the first music that white people haven’t stole from American black artists since jazz.

  88. DiMi says:

This whole post is a completely misleading. I can’t stand it when gossip jockeys try to create drama or conflict when it just isn’t there, and they have no evidence. It’s insulting to the intelligence of your readers. Please stop.

    1. When you write that she “disrespects” Britney and Adele, you imply that she has insulted them. She just omitted them. I was waiting to read about an insult that didn’t exist.
    2. You suggest that the other women are threatened by Adele, but you are basing that claim on absolutely nothing. I’ve never read of any of these women insulting or saying anything negative about her.
    3. You suggest that these other women are not talented. Gaga and Beyonce may not be your cup of tea, but they are definitely talented singers.

I don’t think that these artists are threatened by Adele; there is just no evidence to suggest that. I think she is just an artist who is focused exclusively on singing and not on performing so she is a different type of artist and they are not thinking of her as being part of a performance-driven group.

Stop making things up; it is disrespectful to your readers and makes readers lose respect for you.

Those boots are great, sexy lace up mocassin with kitten heel; the flaw in this lovely design is the open toe – it would be much better without the open toe.

  90. bre says:

wow…. this website is big on misleading headlines.

and honestly? i wouldn’t have mentioned adele either. sure, she has a nice voice, but if i hear ‘rolling in the deep’ one. more. freaking. time. i will rip my eardrums out. friggin hate that song. wouldn’t search out any more adele music either, if that’s her most popular song, and it’s so annoying… i’d hate to hear the rest.

  91. Meadowlark says:

    bre:
I’m an Adele fan and I feel the same way about Rolling in the Deep; I’ve heard it 100 times and I DON’T EVEN LISTEN TO THE RADIO! It’s just everywhere. But I will say that all of Adele’s singles that have been played to shit are among my least favorite of hers. If you did seek out more of her music, you still might be unimpressed but, to me, I’d still rather listen to Rolling in the Deep than ANY Rhianna/Kesha/Katy Perry song. *shrug*

  92. VeneficaDelirium says:

I think Adele is a good singer and seems like a nice girl, but I’m not a fan. I’m a headbanger chick.

But Bre your logic doesn’t make sense. Are you saying that she doesn’t “belong” because her song gets overplayed on the radio? I seriously hear a Rihanna song every ten to fifteen minutes at work, and I don’t know, but overexposure would tempt me to believe that you are anything but *not* a pop star.

I still think it’s kind of ignorant that Britney Spears was left out of that group however, because to me, she was the first female singer who revived the trend of female pop stars being popular for young audiences since Madonna.

  93. The Original Ashley says:

I think it’s wrong to call Adele a “popstar”, it denigrates her talent. “Popstar” gives off images of gimmicks and autotune and that’s not what Adele is. She’s a singer, a bonafide, pure talent, soul singer.

If I were her I’d take it as a compliment that she wasn’t included in Rhianna’s little list. All the artists listed are auto tune, electronic infused, computer generated messes and with the exception of Gaga and Beyonce, can’t sing to save their life.

  94. The Original Ashley says:

DetRiotgirl – I agree with you on that point. For me Amy led the way for artists like Adele and Duffy. But I think when it comes to talent and music Britain leads the way. Their female singers; Lily, Amy, Adele, etc. all write their music and or lyrics, and can actually sing. I can’ t say the same for any American artists. Maybe Gaga. Gaga does write her own lyrics but they’re so immature it’s hard to take them seriously. You won’t find Adele writing about sipping champagne in a club while her phone rings. j/s

  95. Munkey says:

“I can’ t say the same for any American artists.”

Then perhaps it’s time to turn off MTV and broaden your horizons a bit, because there are plenty of brilliant female American singer/songwriters currently doing their thing: Neko Case, Patty Griffin, Lori McKenna … the list goes on and on (and it spans every genre).

And I get so tired of this “us vs. them” mentality. There are talented artists all over the globe — just find what you like and enjoy yourself. It’s not a competition.

  96. coucou says:

EARTH TO YANNA – i got one word for your wankin’ whack British Blues Theory – ELVIS.

    ‘Nuff said.

    Get real, man.

Never have i seen a country so small as yours with such a disproportionately HUGE EGO.

    Love Adele, though, for sure!

Props to Munkey’s comments, have you checked out Emily White from Cali? Dark folk music, she’s awesome, too!

  97. Melancholy says:

She totally dissed Lindsey Lohan! I hope White Oprah doesn’t hear about this.

  98. faye says:

” It’s me, Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé… who else? Ke$ha for sure.”

    So crap basically.

  99. CCM says:

Yo – Saying Gaga has no natural talent is the nuts. Love or hate her girl can SIN and bang a piano no doubt. Rhianna is one crazy twat.

  100. Munkey says:

@coucou: Props right back at ya 😉 And I haven’t heard Emily White, but I’ll be sure to check her out. Thanks for the recommendation!

  101. wwww says:

Rihanna sucks. End of it. The world doesn’t need vulgar talentless chicks like she is.

    • jazziet203 says:

audio tune and computers isn’t singing its merely cheating people like Rhianna Britney Katy Perry etc need to flash there tits or be on the front of magazines naked to sell records but people like Adele don’t need to anything but be natural not needing to change at all i love adele she is the first artist i have fallen in love with her music and her as a person im not gay oor whatever but i am potentially moved by her and her songs

  102. MourningTheDeathofMusic says:

    @Callumna (post #90)

Wow… Just… Wow. You really believe what you’ve just wrote? It is people like you that keep the racial tensions alive and going strong.

And in regards to the rap comment. Better watch out, Enimem is paving a new path and is sneaking up on you fast. >:(

  103. bogie says:

Eminem is not even in the top ten for rappers as far as earnings. He is sneaking up…well gosh he has been out there for over a decade….if he was going to do something he would of done it. Last time I checked JayZ was the one breaking records…knocking out Elvis even. Its a beatiful thing…in the words of Jay.

  104. Sam says:

Rihanna is jealous of Britney! Britney got more attention when they performed live! Rihanna I like to see u sale out concerts like Britney, then u can talk all u want!

  105. Annie_Grey says:

    “It’s me.” wow

  106. Venefica Delirium says:

@CCM: I hear people constantly echoing that Gaga is sooo talented and people just don’t get it.

I’ve heard her live. She sounds wasted, but I’m sure that if you take away the affected slurring, electronic stammers, lipsynching, and half-hearted screeching, you’ve got…oh wait, nothing. Katy Perry can yell too. People aren’t pretending she’s talented.

I think people want to believe Gaga is more talented than she is because it’d be one hell of a disappointment to realize that there’s absolutely nothing special about her.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but people can spare me the “IF YOU DON’T THINK GAGA’S TALENTED YOU NEED YOUR HEARING CHECKED!”/”IF YOU DON’T THINK GAGA’S TALENTED YOU’VE NEVER HEARD HER SING LIVE.”

I’m impressed with her. She’s capable of shouting and flailing like a palsied fish at the same time.

If she was that talented, why couldn’t she have made it the first time around, as Stefani Germanotta? Somehow, not stripping, not boasting about how many sexual partners you’ve had, and not relying on shock value has worked for *other* people. She couldn’t even make it with a wealthy family who’ve basically attempted to peddle her to the media the first several times, as Stefani Germanotta. She couldn’t even make it alone, period.

  107. Venefica Delirium says:

People act pressured to agree that she’s that talented, as well as pressure other people to agree that she’s talented.

I don’t agree. I don’t think she can sing. I don’t even think she’s that great of a performer. All she’s good at is drawing attention to herself by repackaging the same product that pop music has been selling since the beginning, peddling gratuitous flesh and ostentatious exhibitionism. She doesn’t even deserve full credit for her own image.

So, I’ll pass on the Kool-aid. I tried to like her, but there’s just nothing to like. I liked her in the beginning until I realized how superficial I was being.

  108. Tommy says:

I get that Adele has a good voice, but people act like she’s the second coming. She’s not Whitney, she just has a nice voice about her. She can’t sustain notes like Whitney or Celine, she can’t dance and perform like Britney or Beyonce (or even Cheryl Cole), and she writes songs that are a little bit better than what Taylor Swift churns out. This bogus idea that she’s some sort of monumental talent is really ridiculous. Her voice isn’t THAT great, people…

  109. Venefica Delirium says:

@Tommy: The same could be said about Gaga.

Admittedly, I don’t like Adele’s songs but I think that people generally root for her because she’s modest and doesn’t act like a skank. That’s refreshing to people.

I think the devil’s advocates popping out of the woodwork all of the sudden can get off the cross, to be fair.

  110. seri says:

Uhm… Adele has an enormous amount of sex appeal. Who doesn’t melt into a puddle of love when they hear her sing? Ah.. so gorgeous. Rihanna at a glance is lovely, but god I wish she’d just never ever try to warble her tonsils again. Just hush girl and be pretty. Let the master Adele be both–a sexy tallented and melting women and men right and left. No competition. I’m sure Adele isn’t even threatened by these silly little kids. 🙂

  111. This is very attention-grabbing, You’re an overly skilled blogger. I have joined your feed and look forward to in search of extra of your great post. Also, I’ve shared your site in my social networks

obviously she would be shit scared of adele even tho adele doenent have the so-called “look” adele can really sing and doesent use audiotune to sound how she does she also doesent need to get her tits out or be a fashion icon or sexy for that matter to sell music adele will be in the biz 4 atleast a decade whereas riris time in the spotlight is slowly dwindling
