Suri Cruise gets a haircut, still can’t get a sweater

Little Suri Cruise, two and a half, was spotted out with her Broadway star mom, Katie Holmes, in Central Park yesterday. The tot had a new haircut and wore a puff sleeve blue polka dot dress with silver ballet flats. Many of you pointed out in earlier stories about Suri that she needed a haircut and her bangs were getting a little too long. It looks like her mom took care of that, but Suri is still in clothing that doesn’t look appropriate for the weather, as you also mentioned.

While Katie is in a jacket, Suri is out in a little dress that’s meant for late spring or summer. It averaged 46° in Central Park yesterday, so it wasn’t that cold, but that’s still too cold for short sleeves. At first I thought she wasn’t wearing tights but on closer inspection she looks like might have on light pale tights. They’re not the thick tights that kids usually wear, but I wanted to give her mom the benefit of the doubt. Katie is also holding Suri’s jacket, so maybe Suri insisted on taking it off. That doesn’t mean her mom should indulge her.

JayBird reported yesterday that Tom and Katie have an entire apartment that they use as Suri’s playroom. They have four other apartments in the same building in the East Village, though. Two are for their staff and one is a gym. Must be nice to own so much space on both coasts.

There’s some controversy over whether Suri has enough playmates, but she’s not even three yet. She seems to have a devoted mom and dad, even if they don’t dress her warmly enough and seem to push the limits of her patience with photo opportunities.

I always feel sorry for Suri Cruise even though she’s got loving parents and everything she could want – she always looks so lonely, a child in a world of adults

..that said, she looks more like her mum every day

  2. CJ says:

HAs anyone EVER heard of the ‘TERRIBLE TWO’s?

Trust me when I say this, the terrible two’s really start about 14-16 months old. Toddlers are NOT easy to deal with and sometimes it’s just easier to let them do what THEY want. Why spend the afternoon fighting with a two year old about a jacked when you can just let her be a little cold and enjoy the afternoon at the park.

Plus it’s not like there is a full on blizzard going on.

Report on something else please, this is getting real old real fast.

  3. Leandra says:

The fact that Katie is carrying Suri’s jacket totally lets her off the hook in my books. Obviously Suri would have nothing to do with the jacket. At this age they like to think they’re making their own decisions. If she was really cold she would want the jacket.

  4. Scribe85 says:

That looks like a blanket to me.

  5. Megan says:

I don’t really understand these ‘Look how much of a bad mom Katie Holmes is’ posts.

  6. DarthVadersLoveChild says:

    Same shoes AGAIN!

  7. Glowstar says:

I thought Suri had turned 2 in april?

  8. geronimo says:

Suri was born April 18th 2006, will be 3 in April 2009, therefore is currently 2yrs, 6mths and six days old.

She is the cutest little thing, and is definitely looking more and more like Katie.

  9. Celebitchy says:

Sorry I screwed up Suri’s age and will fix it, thanks!

    – edit –
What happened is that I too quickly looked at Wikipedia for Suri’s age and mistook her parent’s wedding date as her birthdate. Of course I should know this. I was working too fast with other stuff going on and didn’t catch it until you guys pointed it out, thanks!

  10. mog says:

Her official dob is 18 April 2006, which makes her about 2 1/2. So they say.

Or are you suggesting her 3rd birthday is in November?

  11. Mia says:

    @ CJ – I agree with you.

I can’t decide if this child is cute or not but the body guard is cute -the one in black. 😉

  12. Mairead says:

LOL – poor little thing has such a mom-made haircut.

Perhaps her parents are wily enough to dress her with a thermal vest under the dress? The fluffy blanket/coat sounds like a good idea; Suri can be wrapped up in it if she looks like she’s getting too cold, but they don’t have to fight over arms and buttons.

  13. Cinderella says:

She is such a little cutie. She looks like quite the handful, though. I hope she runs Tom ragged.

  14. Roni says:

A child of 2 years old shouldn’t have a say on whether or not to put a coat on…its up to the damn parents to put a coat on the child! And I’m sorry, NOT saying that Katie is a “bad” parent…but Suri really does need to have a coat on…its too damn cold outside not to be wearing one!

  15. Baholicious says:

This child breaks my heart. There’s no light in her eyes…

  16. Kolby says:

Forget the coat debate for a second – the child looks exhausted! I know they let her set her own hours, but she doesn’t look like she’s getting enough sleep. And it has been pretty chilly here in NY – you can tell by the closeup that Suri’s nose is red.

  17. Kolby says:

Ok, upon further inspection, I agree with whoever said that what Katie is carrying is not a coat – it’s a security blanket.

  18. Wif says:

Whoa, enough with telling other people how to raise their kids. Unless you’ve spoken with Katie directly about her reasons, it’s not appropriate. My kids always dress cooler than other kids because if I dress them warmly they break out in eczema all over. My neighbour’s son dresses more cool than others because he is a walking furnace. Not every child has the same needs. I know the standard argument is that this is a gossip website, and that celebs put themselves in the position to be judged, but most parents really do their best, and put a lot of thought into the job.

Sorry, judging others’ parenting skills is my pet peeve.

  19. Granger says:

The rumours that Suri is NOT Tom Cruise’s daughter make me laugh more and more everyday. She looks exactly like his cousin, William Mapother! Definite family resemblance.

As for the coat, I have a 2-1/2 year old who’s going through the “terrible twos”. He can be a pain in the butt some days when it’s cool out and he doesn’t even want socks on, much less a jacket. But you know what? I’m his mother. I’m in charge. So the jacket goes on whether he likes it or not. And he might have a tantrum for five minutes after, but — like most 2-1/2 year olds — he’s pretty easy to distract. I’m not AT ALL saying Katie Holmes is a bad mother — she seems fabulous! — but I do find it odd that she doesn’t “force” Suri to wear a jacket when, clearly, a jacket is necessary.

  20. Emily says:

In high school, I knew girls who wore flip flops when it was below freezing outside. I also saw boys who would walk to school in tshirts and shorts. The fighting over clothes starts early!

As for Suri wearing the same shoes two days in a row… I didn’t own 563587 pairs of shoes growing up. I usually wore the same sneakers every day up until they no longer fit/were worn out. Who cares if Suri is wearing the same shoes?

  21. TC says:

Forget the coat, she could have just gone with a sweater and a pair of pants/leggings to avoid the whole jacket issue. This is poor planning on the part of the mother. She anticipated the need for her own jacket, if she knew it was going to be a problem, she should have put her in warmer clothes to begin with. 46 is freaking cold.

  22. georgiagrl says:

She’s cute, but enough already. Her parents pimp that kid out daily, as they try to rebuild their dead careers, especially Tom. Give the kid her privacy, or in 10 years, they’ll be complaining about the the press and her privacy, when they’ve set her up for hell in her teen years, watch and see.
And as a NY’er, that kid is dressed totally inappropriately for this time of year, and tomorrow’s pix she will have on warmer clothes, cause the Cruises read their press daily.

  23. Syko says:

I dunno, Georgiagrl, we all bitched about it yesterday, and last week, and here she is in summer clothes on a 46 degree day.

I think this all goes in with the CO$ cra – er, stuff. They think she has a fully formed adult soul and mind inside that 2 year old body, so if she says she doesn’t want a coat on, then they don’t make her. I don’t think Katie is necessarily a bad parent, she does seem to dote on the kid. But the cult has some strange practices and child-rearing methods. Whatever. The child is too old to be wrapped in blankets, they need to put a coat on her.

  24. Ruby says:

I never noticed before, but has the kid got a squint or a lazy eye or something?
In some of the pics she looks sort of cross eyed.

  25. Kaiser says:

Poor little ragamuffin. I would look pissed if I had that haircut, too.

  26. poopie says:

Thanks DarthV ! THOSE SHOES ! and if she HAS 300,000 pairs of shoes, why is she always wearing THESE? i am one who never complained about her hair and i did like it better before with the longer bangs… as far as dressing warmly, i NEVER wear coats, rather i love to feel the cold weather, maybe S is the same!!

  27. Anni says:

i don´t know…whenever i see a pic of her i get the feeling the damage is done. there´s just nothing in her eyes, she looks sad with every fibre, even if she smiles.

  28. Embee says:

46 degrees is simply too cold for short sleeved dresses and no socks (if she’s wearing tights, and I doubt it, they are hose). Anyone who has spent any time with a toddler knows that they can be directed: “do you want to wear this outfit, or this one?” is sufficient to give the child a choice (always easier than a battle of wills) while ensuring the choices are appropriate. Katie’s poor parenting choices reflect the fact that no one can say “no” to her and Suri will undoubtedly bear the same burden.

  29. reasonstobecheerfulpart2 says:

    @ Kaiser 😆 😆

  30. Anaïs says:

Tomkat fans will kill me for this, but i don’t find this child cute. She is really sweet, but not so cute as the fans say.
And for the warmer clothes, you just have to look at the pics to see that she isn’t freezing.

  31. mins15 says:

With that haircut I think Suri looks a lot like Chris klein.

  32. Roni says:

I’m sorry but this kid reminds me of that movie…I think it was called “The Children of the Corn.” Correct me if I’m wrong…I know that my cyber friends will out there.

  33. JMC says:

SO she doesn’t have a coat on…what’s your point!?!?! WHAT does Holmesbot possibly have to gain??

As for her “trapped in a world of adults/no friends/etc.”…YOU ARE ANALYZING THE SOCIAL LIFE OF A 2 YEAR OLD!!! REALITY CHECK!

  34. Anne says:

Suri does look tired here, that’s the first thing I thought when I saw her. Do they let her chose her own bedtime?

The jacket thing is so dumb, it’s not the north pole people! When she’s cold she will wear a jacket. I’m not sure why she’s always in a dress, maybe she likes them? Who knows.

I do feel they need to keep her away from the paps more. It’s good press for Katie’s show I guess.

Then again, if I had all the resources in the world I would be out every single day with my child as well doing and seeing everything we could. Hire a maid and a cook and just play all day. Just because they are famous doesn’t mean they should lock themselves away.

editing to add I’m so not a fan of either, Katie can’t act and I haven’t seen a movie with Tom in it since Top Gun. Oh wait, I did see Interview with a Vampire which sucked. I think this constant criticism of their parenting is ridiculous, can we go back to criticizing Tom and Scientology please?

  35. Syko says:

Right there with you, Anais, and getting less cute all the time. Something about the dead eyes.

  36. Victoria says:

That’s not a jacket, it’s a blanket, and no she’s not wearing tights, thin or otherwise.

  37. xiaoecho says:

    JMC….stop screaming—you’re acting like a 2yo yourself

  38. Carrie says:

    @mins15 – I was thinking the same thing….

  39. vdantev says:

All that CO$ money around and they settle for that 40’s era bowl cut ?

  40. JMC says:

Lol Xiao…”soweee” (in 2 yo voice)

  41. WTF?!?! says:

Yes, we have all heard of “the terrible twos” and the parents put coats on screaming children all across the world. They could dress her in long sleeves and pants/thermal tights. How about a pair of socks? You can buy a five-pack for, like, $3 from street vendors on every other corner in NYC.

46 degrees is frickin’ cold, especially here in the windy Apple where it’s as much as 10 degrees colder on the shady side of the street.

These people are terrible parents, and Tom is pimping another man’s baby to perpetuate the illusion/delusion he is normal (and before you start a-wailin’, by “normal”, I don’t necessarily mean “straight”).

And Katie looks desperately sad in pic #4 in the bottom thumbnails. I wish she’d leave Scientology already. They’re destroying this once-vital, one-young woman.

  42. Chris says:

Suri is so cute! But her parents seem like idiots.

  43. JaundiceMachine says:

In Suri’s defense, she does seem to be running around when she’s sans leggings and sleeves. Because she’s so small, her little body may be working hard to keep her nice and toasty. Maybe she just has one hell of an internal constitution.

  44. joan says:

i love suri. i think shes so freakin’ cute! lol i’d love to take her to my place one day just so i can hug her and play dress up and house 🙂

  45. Cheyenne says:

    @Emily:

Suri is a long way from high school. She’s only two and half. She doesn’t get a say in what she’s going to wear; that’s why she has parents. Any parent who would let a child her age go outside in 50-degree weather wearing only a summer dress and no coat or jacket, not even a sweater on, is an incompetent parent.

  46. Mairead says:

Thems are some strong Mapother genes in her – I looked up Matthew Mapother and when she half-smiles she really is the image of him!

  47. devilgirl says:

    @Mins15-LOL! You are right! 😀

  48. Bros says:

that kid totally looks like chris klein.

  49. prissa says:

Why is it just because we see a picture of her at the playground they are “pimping” her out? I understand there have been occasions where they seem to use her in that way, but come on people! The child has a right to get fresh air and play outdoors! And as for comments about her shoes, jacket and anything else, Please! None of us will be up with her when she catches a cold so just let Katie be her mom and worry about all of that! Um-kay?

  50. tigerlille says:

Suri is a darling. I think it could be very intimidating to always be pursued by paparazzi, and maybe that is why she looks sad sometimes.

It always irritates me when people criticize Suri’s parents because she doesn’t seem to have friends. She is 2 1/2, and at that age, your parents are your world. Children at this stage of development engage in parallel play. Friends will be important later.

  51. Buttercup says:

Horrible haircut, that poor kid looks more unfortunate than usual.

  52. Aud says:

    Poor child looks blue.

I do think the lack of jacket is prob at Suri’s request. There IS that whole thing about scientology teaches you never to say no to your child because it traumatizes them. Religion be darned tho, I’d be ashamed to be seen in public with a child dressed so inappropriately.

I want that blanket tho. It looks so warm and fuzzy like a wet dream blankie

  53. Jeanne says:

Poor little tike, she sure isn’t a happy looking little girl. She needs a brother or sister, or some cousins. Can you imagine how boring Mom and Dad are to be around?

  54. chessie says:

Does Suri have an eye or facial/neurological problem? Her eyes seem to be looking in two different directions. The right eye seems crossed in. And when she’s smiling (which is rare), the left side of her mouth is the only side that curls up.

  55. mary says:

There are 4 very sad things that I notice with Suri every photo I see [1] how incredibly skinny she is, even katie looks like she has thinned down more if that’s possible — but Suri looks way too thin [2] she always looks incredibly sad [3] she always has on shoes without socks or tights [4] she almost always wears the same shoes, which is not sad, but weird for people with so much money, I mean she always has on the silver ones or these ones in these photos…what’s up with that? She is one sad little girl — and I feel horrible for her..
