Princess Charlene & Prince Albert have a “show of unity” in England

wenn3494698

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were in England this weekend. They attended the Variety Club’s golden jubilee event, and these are some photos from the event. I should note that the British press seems to like Charlene, although they tend to make her a “second class” royal compared to their own royalty – I can even remember reading a British tabloid piece about how Charlene’s name is tacky, compared to Kate Middleton’s. Still, the British press loves nothing better than to sweep up after a royal scandal, so these photos are being interpreted as “a show of unity” from Charlene and Albert. Seriously! Look at Charlene’s face in these photos – she looks like she’s about to cry in nearly every frame. I didn’t choose the most depressed-looking ones, either. This is how she looks for every event she does with Albert. I think it’s also telling that the palace hasn’t let Charlene do any events on her own yet – they’re afraid to let her go out with a handler, lest she break down in tears and beg some commoner for help.

Anyway, about the fashion – I can’t find a designer ID on this dress. It’s a gold silk brocade, and I think it flatters Charlene very well, although I hate brocade gowns. It looks like you’re wearing drapes! Still, Charlene looks good, fashion-wise. I think she must be like Princess Diana – she pours herself into fashion when her marriage is going badly.

Leeds isn’t the first place you would expect to see Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco. But the Royal couple took advantage of their trip to Yorkshire to put on a show of unity – despite the turbulent start to their marriage.

Onlookers at Harewood House were hard-pressed to find any evidence of trouble while the pair were pictured arm in arm at the Variety Club’s golden jubilee event.

Charlene, 33, who apparently tried to flee the country two days before her wedding in July after learning Albert had a love child, yesterday appeared to only have eyes for her husband. The former South African Olympic swimmer showed off her toned arms in an elegant cream and gold gown, scraping her hair back to reveal a stunning pair of yellow diamond earrings.

The couple seemed the picture of happiness, even after it was recently claimed in Paris Match that Charlene has banned Albert from seeing Nicole Coste, the air hostess from Togo who in 2003 gave birth to son Alexandre.

He also has another daughter Jazmin, 19, born after a brief affair with American estate agent Tamara Rotola. In both cases, DNA tests were needed before Albert admitted he was the father, and agreed to pay for their upbringings.

But it seems Charlene has put Albert’s past behind her as the pair jetted to Leeds to attend the ball, part of a series of celebrations of mark the half-century of the Yorkshire Committee of the Variety Club Children’s Charity.

The event raised £250,000 and was attended by more than 300 people including singer Lulu and comedian Bobby Davro. The Monegasque Royal Family have a tradition of celebrating charities in Yorkshire. Prince Albert’s parents, Rainer III and actress Grace Kelly, attended a similar event nearly 40 years ago at the Queens Hotel.

[From The Mail]

See? Ass-kissy. Will Charlene ever make a break for it? Surely someone could have helped her in England. Maybe Albert and Charlene will come to America for some event – someone will help her here.

Let’s start our own Celebitchy cause….STS (Save The Swimmer)!

  2. corey says:

These pictures don’t do her any justice, maybe bad camera lighting. Even through the misery she really is such a beautiful women…..or maybe the misery is starting to get to her…..

ps. thanks for posting on Labor Day!!

  3. GimmeABreak says:

Their “happiness” couldn’t look more contrived. Her smile is sooooo….phony.

  4. Rita says:

    Message to Charlene

Suck it up you sorry half-witt. You chose money and bald over self-fulfillment and happiness. You’ve aged a decade in ten days. Prince Albert has pulled up the draw bridge and there is no white knight coming to rescue the “poor me princess”. Your only hope is to jump and pray the alligators basking in the mote aren’t hungry.

    …and most importantly, Morning @brin!!!

  5. Waldemar says:

“I can’t find a designer ID on this dress.”

It must be by somebody locally (Monaco), or something old (uh I mean vintage) because I can’t find it either.

    Very frustrating.

It IS better that the gold dress Kyra K was wearing.

  6. brin says:

Happy Labor Day, Rita!!! (and everyone else)!

  7. Eve says:

Third picture: she’s smiling but it looks like she’s in actual physicall pain (not only emotional, I mean).

  8. capepopsie says:

I think she looks beautiful! She behaves gracefully, too. No reason to keep jumping at her throat, what do we REALLY know about her situation? I´m sure she´s doing her best.

  9. Gina says:

Not only does Charlene now looked drugged and zoned out. She looks like she’s 50 years old. I guess the stress is causing her to age 20 years in a few months.

This doesn’t look like any show of unity- it looks like a contrived plan to show the fake couple.

The palace PR person Christian Stahl was just fired by Charlene because she could not sell the fake fairytale. Apparently Charlene is mad as hell that she is not a superstar like Duchess Kate.

The new one is suppose to get the fairytale/ unity story pumping in the press. I think its a bit late for that though.

  10. Happymom says:

Aren’t her parents and brothers being pretty much paid off as well? Talk about all selling their souls for the devil. What a train wreck-really bordering on the sinister. I can’t imagine that she’s going to bear him a child/children and then leave them to him and the palace-if she’s struggling now- no way she could do that to her own babies. She’s either going to suck it up for the long haul, or escape before she gets pregnant.

  11. really says:

Can’t wait until she gives him an heir, she will make a great mum! Like her alot!

  12. moja31 says:

The Brits treat all other royals as less than their own, even those with reigning houses far older than the house of Windsor. Frankly, I find the British royals much less engaging than the rest of the European royals. All the drama with Albert aside, Charlene looks beautiful here.

  13. layla says:

Can someone enlighten me on this ….

Didn’t she date him for a number of years before hand?

So I don’t get the prisoner bride thing?(Yes I know they took her passport) Or was she being paid off the whole time? And didn’t she have many, many, many a chance to leave him before the engagement got rolling?

I might be missing something… but something doesn’t jive to cry prisoner bride when you dated the guy FOR YEARS before hand.

  14. bettyrose says:

Her perfect face does seem to be showing some stress lines in that second to last picture. If she really is heavily drugged, that can take a toll. Part of me looks forward to reading her tell-all book after she finally produces an heir and makes her escape. But a commoner princess in Monaco . . . we’ve already seen how this story might end.

  15. whitedaisy says:

She exercised her free will in choosing the abusive troll; they dated for 6 years beforehand. It is difficult to generate much sympathy for her when they were together for so long before marriage.

  16. Alix says:

Yes, the British press are snobby at least partly because the House of Grimaldi is princely, not technically royal (i.e., Monaco’s a principality, not a kingdom). But then, the Grimaldi dynasty dates back to the 1200s, so, a little respect! Also, Charlene is essentially the same name as Charlotte (a British favorite) — same root with a different suffix — so no need to throw shade there.

    STS, love it!

  17. matilda says:

That is not stress causing her to look old and have lines on her face. Her face looked much worse when they visited Ireland, and that was before the wedding. She was smiling widely and there were lines stretching from her cheeks to her jaw. Laugh lines and wrinkles? I think not. More like her appointment needed to be set up for another round of botox.

Those lines, lumps, and other weird things on her face are the results of countless plastic surgeries she’s gotten over the years. See her photos even from 2 years ago. She looks very, very different now, and it’s getting more obvious she’s gone under the knife many times. All paid for by Albert, of course.

She’s had her crooked teeth fixed, 2 nose jobs, cheek implants, breast implants, tons of botox, face lifts, and other cosmetic treatments.

She looks like a freak now who can’t move her face and always looks constipated when she tries to smile. It’s not just the stress of her situation. Her face is just too tight from being sliced and diced regularly, that when she smiles she looks like her face is gonna tear…like paper.

The 2nd to last photo shows odd lumps on her left eyelid/brow bone and temple. That must be where the skin is pulled for her face lift and where she gets botox. There are also odd lines on her nose.

She may look good from afar, but IMO she is looking scary these days. I wouldn’t call her beautiful. She’s messed up her face too much to be considered as such, IMO. She looks so plastic nowadays. Add to that her constant empty/zoned out expressions, and you’ve got someone close to belonging in Madame Tussaud’s.

  18. Hola says:

Wow Princess Charlene is ugly in these non photoshoped pictures. Her face looks terrible.

Charlene and Albert dated for like 6 years- she knew what she was getting into. Charlene sold her soul for the money and title. Albert is acting like he always has. I don’t feel sorry for either of them.

Neither of them is interesting. Yawn.

  19. The Original Ashley says:

I don’t see verge of tears or misery, I just see “placated” (placated with the help of her pharma friends?).

Why aren’t they being received by the Royals? Surely heads of state get an audience with the Queen? Or are the Monaco Royals too scandalous? I’ve heard there’s some snobbery directed at them, like they’re not really “Royal”.

  20. cailinos says:

Good grief, the Grimaldi gang never fail to astound. Ever since Grace Kelly’s days, that family saga has been one long Jackie Collins novel compared with the House of Windsor, its own scandals notwithstanding.

  21. The Original Ashley says:

Alix – Thanks. That explains the animosity. The way I see it the House of Grimali dates back farther than the Windsor’s so they should get some respect (besides “Windsor” isn’t even the greatest Royal house to sit on the English throne, so they can suck it).

  22. Amy says:

Oh dear. I suppose she will be the next Princess Diania-esque story (not comparing her to Princess Diana’s personality or charisma, just the parallels in their lives). She will pop out one or two kids in the next few years and then leave him, have one or two tell all interviews and then… whatever comes next. Here’s hoping she survives the next couple of years, gives Albert a kid, and then she can move on with her life.

  23. Mia says:

She looks good. Laughing at the ridiculousness of the English being snobby towards the Grimaldis. Bunch of rich folks being elitist towards another bunch of rich folks.

  24. Mag says:

Agreed with everyone with the whole prisoner bride thing. She knew what she was getting into by hanging on for 6 years.

I think her face is explained by the botox (she’s obviously had it in the platysma muscles around her mouth) – she’s starting to look like Courtney Cox in terms of duckface.

  25. LeeLoo says:

If you read about Charlene when she was an Olympic swimmer in South Africa, there are a lot of stories of her attaching herself to the richest man in the room and there are also stories of drug addiction.

I’m beginning not to buy the prisoner bride story either. I think she got exactly what she wanted. A rich man who only wants her to pop out babies. After that, he’ll give her a cut of his fortune and she can do whatever she wants. She doesn’t strike me as the motherly type.

  26. Barbara says:

I do not think she is miserable, I think she is just what I refer to as an Ice Princess. Come on folks, if she wanted to leave him, she would.

  27. RovingLass says:

    Agree with LeeLoo

Not only am I not buying the story, I wonder if she enjoys the attention as the captive princess. When the marriage finally ends, she may have to ride that sympathy so she is stockpiling pictures which will prove her situation when her memoirs are released.

I am getting cynical in my old age. 😛

  28. BeckyR says:

Attractive woman, but looks like she is valium’d out. I would be too, if I had to get within 10 feet of that creep she married!

  29. blinditemreader says:

Situation aside, in that last picture the Botox in her forehead/brow area is more evident than ever. I wish women didn’t do this to their faces.

  30. LeeLoo says:

@blinditemreader Oh I’m sure she’ll be looking like a Taylor Armstrong trainwreck before long.

  31. Charmaine says:

I felt sorry for Charlene on the wedding day-but the more I see her pompus posing and drugged out attitude, I have no sympathy for her.

Charlene has exposed herself as a gold digging fame whore- who sold herself for fame. And what’s worse is she is not even famous- the mainstream media could care less about her.

I agree Prince Albert has always been the playboy. I am beginning to have more sympathy for him as this charade goes on than for her.

  32. Alice says:

I don’t buy the prisoner bride thing anymore. I think it was a publicity stunt because no one cared about the wedding of Albert & Charlene until that story came about.

She’s a plastic gold digger and he’s an older playboy. What is interesting in that?

BTW they both look like hell in those photos. She looks arrogant and he looks depressed.

  33. Brittney says:

I’m with the others; she knew what she was getting into and wanted the title, money, and fame. Maybe she’s regretting it, maybe she’s actually under some kind of forced containment, or maybe she’s just playing up the misery look for the public sympathy she’s being showered with. I don’t feel too sorry for her.

And yes… thank you for posting on Labor Day!

  34. Ms.JAPrufrock says:

    @Rita–I agree 100% with you!

To me Princess Charlene is as shallow as any European commoner who social climbs into royal beds and circles. For six years she attached herself to a man she doesn’t love and whom she knew was highly ambivalent about being a prince and heir to the Monaco throne. Prince Albert is no less a douche than any rich dude who just wants to stay single forever and play the field. I would respect him more if he just told his family that he wants to live his own life. Prince material he is not, but Charlene must of known full well what she was getting into.

Her 11th-hour attempt to flee only shows she had been in denial and has lacked full charge of her life for a long time. Many of us have commented on her so called “drugged” look. People, this is the placid look of boredom and disengagement. The idle rich are prone to this syndrome, especially trophy wives like Charlene. I think both Charlene and Albert have checked out from their own authentic selves a long time ago.

  35. smh says:

she looks really unhappy, i feel sorry for her 🙁

some people dream of being royalty but to me it seems like a royal pain in the ass.

  36. anne_000 says:

i’m beginning to think that’s her normal expression.

anyways, what’s so horrible about her spot? she’s living the life of the rich & famous. she married the man she was dating for years. she knew he was a player. she got what she set out to do.

she won her own personal life’s goal lottery.

i don’t feel sorry for her at all.

  37. e.non says:

i read that her family really pressured her to follow thru and marry this sleaze. oorc, they aren’t exactly a wealthy family and her association with monaco is bringing in the bucks for them.

i feel sorry for her; she clearly feels trapped and always looks so miserable. ugh — and to have him touching you….

  38. Amy says:

Not so crazy about the dress, although it looks good on her but i do love the earings!!!

  39. marybeth18 says:

My take: She dated the guy for 6 years with her eye on the prize: marriage, a title, and financial security. She no doubt put up with a lot of his crap during those 6 years because she was focused on the payoff. Then she gets the engagement ring and everything goes to pot: he’s got another love child, maybe two, conceived during their relationship, and she’s publicly humiliated. She finally has enough and decides to leave, only to be stopped by the authorities and have her passport confiscated. After a lot of persuasion by palace officials, not to mention her own family who have reaped financial incentives from the royal family, she is convinced to go through with the marriage. Hence the tears during the ceremony- she finally gets her “fairytale” and it is nothing like she dreamed it would be.

I don’t think she’s a “prisoner bride” in that she wasn’t forced to marry the guy. I do think that she went through with a wedding having serious doubts and reservations and is now pretty soundly miserable. I do think that there is not much love or respect between the two of them, and I do think that this marriage is fully a business arrangement- he needs an heir and she needs/wants the financial security.

  40. sam says:

I just did a google search for photos of Charlene and it seems that she has always had kind of a sad face/smile.

I also wonder if perhaps she has been shown by someone how to ‘pose’ her face for photos, because in every photo I have seen since the wedding she seems like she is trying to present a model face and not break character (whether that is to hide her emotions about the wedding I dont know)

  41. Cheyenne says:

I just get this feeling she would rather be anywhere but with him.

  42. Danny says:

Why everyone thinks she is miserable!? Would you be if you are her place? I will not. Besides she have a very good job done on her face. She is lucky that Albert picked her. She was quite unattractive before.

  43. JulieM says:

Gina: Duchess Kate is a superstar? In whose book? Who knew!

  44. Star Watcher says:

The whole story of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene creeps me out- like some weird scary movie.

As for Duchess Kate and Prince William they are superstars as far as the sheer volume of media is concerned. the press goes ape shit over them. Even I think its way over the top- but obviously they sell magazines. And when you add that Hollywood stars like Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Ann Hathaway, Sarah Jessica Parker, and many others have said they idolize her style and want to copy her. She has been deemed a fashion icon. People Magazine has an entire Style magazine dedicated to just Kate.

None of that ever happened for Charlene-she only made the trashy tabloids. The only time any main stream media paid attention to Charlene was her runawy bride and honeymoon from hell stories. Its a huge step up for her that she is even mentioned on this blog Celebitchy.

No wonder she is a little jealous of Kate. That’s probably how she envisioned herself being famous and happy like Jate- and look at the nightmare she ended up in. Total opposite. I actually feel sorry for her. I hope she finds a way out of this nightmare she is in.

  45. JulieM says:

Wow- Hollywood stars idolize Kate. Well, that just proves it. Oh, and the press goes ape sh*t. What more proof do you need? People Magazine trying to make something out of nothing. Impressive accomplishments! A whole magazine, imagine that! I mean, yuk.

  46. wunderkindt says:

She is reported to be only 33 years old but that must have been about 10 years ago.

    She looks so old already!

  47. sandy says:

@Star watcher Going by what you are saying than Pippa is a superstar too, with press going apeshit over her ass, a entire TV documentary, an entire cover too and speculation on whom she will marry if a certain Early Percy comes along. And not to mention talk about Oprah wanting to offer her a talk show.

  48. Juliet says:

#15 Alix – About snobbery, you can say the same about some aristocratic circles. The purists apparently look down on the BRF because they are not of ‘pure’ British blood – only recently they have German and Greek links.

Anyway about the couple… I don’t really know much about Charlene, but maybe she just has naturally ‘teary’ eyes, that’s why it may look as if she’s about to cry? *shrugs*

  49. L says:

She looks stoned as always … That glaasy eyed vacant look …

  50. Az says:

The Grimaldis have been looked down upon since forever by the Brits. I remember British Hello! used to do a lot less stories about the Grimaldis than Spanish Hello! because the Brits didn’t like them and would complain when they were featured. This is why I’ve always likes Spansih (as in the version sold in Spain) Hello! so much better!

  51. Jenn says:

I just saw a pic of them on the British Hello mag site
they both look relaxed and are about to laugh with each other or are at least being nice……….http://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/201109056056/prince-albert-princess-charlene-ball-gala-leeds-variety-club-childrens-charity/

  52. elvira007 says:

The rumor I still believe is that she was on-call as his pretend girlfriend when he needed someone presentable for public events. She was blackmailed into marrying him. They collected some sort of dirt on her.

She doesn’t seem happy to me, but she knew she was associating with a complete d-bag. There are rumors in the European press that he’s rufied a few girls.

  53. Ron says:

She has a limited array of designers she uses. My guess is it’s either Akris, Armani, or Valentino. She doesn’t venture away from themthat often

  54. ADS says:

There are some heartless people up in here. So a beautiful woman doesn’t deserve sympathy cause she ‘knew what she was getting herself into’ and she was with him for 6 years? Numerous sources and the very detailed report in the French newspaper say that she tried up escape. 3 times, apparently. Doesn’t matter if it was the one escape attempt or that they had been together a long while. Something transpired that was awful enough to make her run. Yes, she came back but was it under duress? I hope not but if she truly is being made to stay with him, by whichever methods his handlers use, then she totally gets my sympathy.

  55. taxi says:

@Marybeth18- I agree that the revelations about Al’s recent affair(s)triggered her reservations about the wedding.
I doubt she’ll be free to leave even after she produces offspring, unless she’s willing to leave the children behind with very limited visiting rights. Actually, her best chance to leave is if he surprises us, soon, with yet more offspring. Charlene would then be seen as the truly wronged woman & she could bail out. I hope she puts on all the jewelry & swims to freedom,

  56. cy fort says:

I like a man with glasses.

  57. eternalcanadian says:

Umm, could those pictures be any more awkward? Even I can smile better and I’ve got rabbit teeth!

I do kind of like Charlene’s dress.

  58. ZA says:

FYI, the dress is Armani… Like Kate, Charlene is a commoner. Is Kate also after the money? Also remember, a swimmers skin ages faster because of the sun; hence the leathered look… At least it is natural and not photo-shopped… Charlene is Charlene and Kate is Kate. Respect that…

But hold on! This is http://www.celeBITCHy.com...

By the way, how many of you are 100% perfect; looks, marriage, figure, clothing. I’m not…

  59. Duh says:

Awkward smile and deplorable face or not this woman has been a golddigger since day one and that is clear jut from looking at thos mismatched couple. So I frankly don’t understand why everyone feels so sad and sorry for her- she chose yhis for herself. This is 2011, all human beings, that includes women, have rights. She could have chosen not to date him, chosen not to become engaged, and on the eve of her weddig (if that was truly the first time she figured ot he was a playboy) she could have chosen not to marry him. But she nade none of those choices the gossip blogosphere wishes she had and now she will get rich, get famous and use this woe is me story she herself created to make herself so likable. I really don’t understand how anyone feels sorry for her

  60. coconut says:

http://www.life.com/gallery/62241/charlene-wittstock-monaco-princess#index/0 has a “retrospective” of charlene photos. while there are some photos there pre-marriage where she looks to have more genuine smiles, she seems to be someone who doesn’t show a lot of strong emotion (in public). maybe all the botox/filler makes it harder for her to emote. i have seen it with others where they look sleepy a lot of the time. sleepy ~~ drugged = similar look, no?

  61. benny says:

I feel sorry for her. She probably believed the guy when he told her the other women were in the past (it’s not hard to imagine a woman falling for that line) and was devastated when she found out it wasn’t true. It’s sadder when the woman actually CARES that her doesn’t love her. If she were really a gold digger, she wouldn’t care because she’d still have want she really wanted (money, title) and that would be enough. There are many other woman I can name who fall into that category.

  62. Goofpuff says:

There is so much plastic on that face, I’d be surprised if she could break out into a smile that isn’t creepy.

  63. ManicPixieDreamGirl says:

She always looks so bored and sad and unhappy and suicidal.

  64. Magsy says:

I’m just gonna guess they’ll have an open marriage. They look very ill-suited together.

  65. Jules says:

Best wishes for a happy life for them both. May they both get what they desire from the marriage!
    Gorgeous earrings! Wow!
