These are photos of Nicole Richie at a Fashion’s Night Out event in LA. I’m assuming she’s wearing one of her own designs, right? Designers stopped doing these 1970s remakes shortly after Sienna Miller stopped making “boho-chic” happen circa 2005. It’s not that I always hate 1970s stuff, or that some ladies can’t pull off the boho look – I’m just tired of Nicole trying to make the boho thing happen. I don’t think it’s a good look for her, I don’t think it’s flattering for her, and she makes clothes look cheap, so instead of thinking “Nouveau Boho Is Happening!” I think “God, did she buy that tacky crap at WalMart?”
Yesterday, Us Weekly published a story that I took as gospel. According to sources, Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie haven’t been getting along at all on the set of their new reality show, Fashion Star. Us Weekly’s report came after other tabloids reported similar tiffs between the two women, and honestly, why wouldn’t I believe that Nicole is a total bitch to Jessica? Nicole loves to stir the pot. Nicole loves to be the Queen Bee. Nicole loves to put girls in their place. But Nicole also reads her own press, so later Thursday, she called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and tried to convince us all that she and Jessica are tight:

According to a tabloid report, Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson are at war on the set of their upcoming reality show Fashion Star – but Richie is setting the record straight.
“I’ll tell you right now that that couldn’t be further from the truth,” Richie, 29, told Ryan Seacrest Thursday on his radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest. “I actually love and adore Jessica.”
“I’ve known her for years, first of all, so I already knew who she was as a person,” Richie added. “Who she is is someone who’s very kind, very sweet and extremely smart and a great businesswoman and someone that I really respect … I actually couldn’t love someone or respect someone more.”
In addition to Simpson, who announced she was joining Fashion Star in June, the series will feature menswear designer John Varvatos and host Elle Macpherson. The celebrity mentors will work with aspiring designers as they compete for a chance to win a multi-million dollar contract to start their own brands.
“I’m really excited and it’s something that I’m extremely honored to be a part of,” Richie said of the show. “We have a lot of fun on it.”

Who are you going to believe, me or Nicole Richie? She’s laying it on a bit thick, in my opinion. Which makes me suspicious that Nicole really is being mean to Jessica… behind Jess’s back. We’ll see. Nicole has spent the last 5-6 years trying to clean up public perception of her.
So getting caught being a bitchy mean girl to Jessica, will screw all that hard work up.
So either her publicist/manager told her to get out there and deny it.
Yet, I doubt Jessica would ever confirm the behavior. She will just let it go and move on.

yea one thing that’s cool about jessica is that she does just ignore things and ‘haters’ and move on….she IS smart, in that way. I mean, I know her dad lined alot of her success up for her, but her attitude, even if it comes thru being slightly dim witted, really does alot to guarantee her success, IMO. she does not seem to take herself too seriously.
Just the other day, I thougha bout her randomly-and thought ‘It’s hard to dislike or hate jessica simpson-she may be just there, or seem dumb or whatever…but she’s pretty innocuous as a person, and you somehow cannot dislike her’….
That said, for some reason I just think Nicole is cool. I have not heard anything to the contrary, and everything I have seen from her is cool. I like her, and I think she’s attractive and has a unique look. I don’t mind the boho on her; I agree it’s not ideal for her physique, but I dont think she cheapens clothes, and certainly not compared to all the real housewives and reality stars out there-now THAT is cheapened clothing. I don’t think nicole ever looks any cheaper than, say, Anniston in one of her tranny dresses that are short or evening gown length.

While I have no doubt that Nicole Ritchie is fairly cool (I actually love her twitter account – where she seems generally nice, cool and fun to hang with, hilarious too!) … I think its common knowledge that she heads up a pretty solid mean girl pack and can bitch the eff out of anyone.
I like the dress. And I like that she has been dressing like this for as long as she has. I think it is genuinely what she likes and how she expresses herself – it’s refreshing.

I really don’t think Jess is as dumb as everyone thinks. Yeah, she comes off as the bubbly dumb blond type, but plenty of people do and that’s more of a personality vs intelligence thing. I don’t think she’d be where she is today, especially with her fashion empire, if she was as dumb as everyone seems to think. I’d consider myself intelligent overall but boy do I ever have my ‘is this chicken or tuna?’ moments, so I can relate to her.
Nicole’s dress is cute and doesn’t look cheap to me, but she could lose the headband.

She looks old, dated, and eccentric like some Hollywood B-list diva who lives with 500 cats and then passes away in her home and the neighbors dont even notice until 3 years later.

I dunno, Michael K from Dlisted posted a photo of the two of them together from a few years ago…they really have know each other for a while, it’s not like they just met. And for everyone judging Nicole’s past mistakes…um, it’s not like she’s Lindsay. She completely turned her life around, cleaned up, and is now a wife, mother, and business owner who stays out of trouble and away from terrible people.
PrettyLights: I agree with everything you just said about Jessica. I think a lot of her “quirkiness” is her personality; it is not indicative of her intelligence. Also, I once had a roommate that graduated from college with a 4.0- she also could not figure out how to turn on the dishwasher.

Every time I see pics of Nicole, she’s in the Boho (oversized frumpy) dresses & stupid headbands or scarf headwrap and/or huge sunglasses. She’s barely ahead of The Olson twins. (Why those 3 are credited for fashion-saavy is beyond me. They rarely, if ever, look attractive.) Then again, all 3 have the “figure” of a stick. Throwing on a moo-moo when you have the figure of a manourished child is considered “chic”.
Jessica certainly has had her share of fashion disasters, but I have a lot more respect for her. She seems “real” and her clothes seem to be styled with various women’s figure flaws in mind.
Do I believe the Nicole commentary? Not particularly. They need to create buzz. Will I tune in? Nope. Don’t give a flip.

I was buying into what Nicole was saying up until the “extremely smart” comment. Maybe its just me, but I could almost see the bitchiness seething through the computer screen as I read that. This is definitely a girl with issues who is looking for an easy target to dump on.
Have we all forgotten what a junkie she was? Rumoured to have been a huge fan of heroin, too. The chances of her not being an addict NOW are slim!

I love reading this site, but I love studying the photos just as much, like trying to figure out what is different with Nicole here. The answer is the brows. Never underestimate the power of a good, balanced brow, filled in lightly if need be.
Here she’s filled them in with a grayish-taupe shadow that doesn’t match them at all and it’s making her look tired and haggard. They also don’t have a crisp look, but kind of smudged out instead. A dark brown shadow used very lightly would be so much more flattering, IMHO.
PS – I thought she really changed, so who knows. I doubt Jessica is all that easy to work with either.
Since this is “Celebitchy”, we are all certainly within our rights to bitch and snark on whomever we wish. A few comments here won’t let go of Nicole’s past as a heroin addict, coke user, drunk driver. All are very serious offences/problems she had and never hid from and thankfully cleaned herself up and changed her life. Other more famous people have also made similar and horrible choices but are not as vilified.
I don’t mean to cause offense with this comparison but RDJ did horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE things to his family and neighbours when he was ravaged by drug addiction. He has turned his life around and I don’t read such comments.
I’m not expecting to convince anyone who does not like Nicole to become a fan but sometimes I feel other women receive more venom than men who have made *past* similar choices. That’s all I wanted to say.

I’ve always liked this girl, she seems to be kind of laid back and nice, with a sense of humor. Now, she does look a bit tired, I don’t know whether it’s the makeup although the comment about the eyebrow situation makes sense, and also the lipstick is that nude color that does not work on everyone, or maybe its because she has two small kids! That will make you tired!

I love both Nicole and Jessica. Nicole’s sense of style is nice and on the contrary , she makes clothes look expensive.
Headbands are way old. So is boho. Time for a retread, Nicole. Still, her style is miles ahead of Simpson’s, but that’s not really saying much.
The best thing Nicole Richiebever did was hire a publicist, a stylist, a fantastic pr team, and a personal twitter bitch. I’m sure she was a total bitch to Jessica Simpson. I remember seeing a video of Nicole on a night club balcony yelling at group of people waiting in line. She was saying they were too ugly, fat, and, poor to be let in to the club. Charming!
