George Clooney’s Norwegian bank commercial: his funniest performance ever?

wenn5722258

These are some photos of George Clooney on the Beverly Hills set of a new commercial for Mercedes-Benz. He filmed the commercial over the weekend, and as you can see, Clooney was animated and looking funny. I mean, he was being funny – he looked surprisingly great. After a weird moment last year when Clooney looked like he had gotten a toupee and some tweaking, old-school Clooney is back, at last. His hair has grown out (or he got a new piece – HAIR piece), his forehead doesn’t look so strange, and he seems fit and healthy. Elisabetta Canalis was bad for him as far as how he looked, I think. Maybe Stacy Keibler will be better for him.

Anyway, I really just wanted to talk about this new commercial that Clooney did for the Norwegian bank DnB NOR. It is ridiculously funny, and I love how much both Clooney and this actress sell the story:

That ad is so smart and funny. I wish we had ads like that in America. It plays into the fantasy some women (me) have about getting drunk and getting into an adventure. Only my adventure ends up with me in bed with Michael Fassbender and Clive Owen. That should be the next ad.

I JUST watched in on HuffPo before coming over here. I LOVE the commercial. It’s hilarious. Clooney looks so happy. And I love the bit about how her dress looks better off than on. Seriously, very cute 🙂

  2. Bubulle says:

George Clooney is a sandwich man : nespresso, mercedes and now a norwegian bank. All this non disclosure agreements are really expensive.

  3. ShanKat says:

Damnit George, I was totally ready to stop loving you.

  4. Heatheradair says:

Awwww. Yeah, that’s Clooney at his best…..pretty adorable.

  5. Gayle says:

Why in the world is he doing commercials at all? So odd. But yeah, he acted the hell out of that 20 seconds.

  6. Aqua says:

I couldn’t help but just laugh out loud at this commercial. Not only were the brides facial expressions priceless throughout the whole thing,I think it’s great that George was willing to poke some fun at himself as well.

  7. the original bellaluna says:

Very cute, very funny. Her expression is priceless!

I really can’t wait to see The Descendants.

  8. Moi says:

Love it – the bride is hilarious.

  9. MissyA says:

Kaiser – If you lower your expectations, there’s adventure to be had in every bottle!

“Move that cone, C*nt! I’m Lindsay Lohan!”

  10. Christine says:

The bride AND Clooney are hiarious. It’s awesome. I’d bank at that bank if I could!

  11. Green_Eyes says:

Hubby knows the only man I would ever leave him for is if George came to my door…and it’s okay, I agreed to let hubster go if Sandra came knocking for him..hmm one of my friends is a dead ringer for Ms. B. Bahaha.. So George better start looking for me!

LOVE this commercial.. Why do we get ignorant commercials? She soooo stole one of my fantasies though…ahhh George you were gorgeous @ 20, now your sexy as he’ll!!

  12. silken_floss says:

Just when I though I couldn’t love him anymore- then BAM! he hits me with this. He is seriously working that salt n pepper hair UNF!

  13. Firecracker says:

Wow, George is hot, hot, hot! Luved the commercial too, so hilarious.

  14. lambchops says:

The Cloon is getting hotter and, despite his taste for tacky women, he still has IT.

  15. trish says:

Well done. Extremely funny, as the truth usually is.

  16. Kimbob says:

Wow…what a GREAT commercial! Yeah, George & his bride both nail it! It’s been a while since I’ve seen Georgie in anything, but, shame on me, I had forgotten his irrepressible charm.

  17. Liz says:

I lurved the ad, and I don’t even like Clooney. So funny, and self depricating.

The bit that I find quite upsetting is all the commenters on the interwebs, all claiming to be Scandanavians, hating on the actress. They’re calling her ugly and plain. (?!)

  18. janie says:

I am seriously addicted to this commercial!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Too funny!

  19. Mari says:

This is really cute. He does a lot of overseas ads. There’s one with Malkovich that’s quite entertaining.

  20. wunderkindt says:

It was like an old SNL skit! lol

  21. wunderkindt says:

    @Liz

The actress-who’s actually attractive-is being made to look plain/horsey as a part of the comedy-that this blessed Clooney ‘dream’ might-but probaby WONT-happen to ‘any’ woman.

Funny thing: Whenever an ‘unattractive’/plain character is needed for a role, attractive people are made to appear unattractive, but authentically unattractive people arent given a chance to have that role-unless, of course, you’re Olivia Munn. In that case, you can be unattractive AND untalented but still get the role because you blew someone.

  22. Mandi says:

    Who did olivia Munn blow???

  23. anne_000 says:

Loved the actress. She’s great in this.

Would have LOVED LOVED LOVED IT if it were Clive Owen circa the time he did the BMW ads…..

  24. Lantana says:

    Love the commercial!
And I thought I was lucky when my husband won $28 on a lottery ticket (he gave me half since Missouri is a community property state lol).

  25. Amanda G says:

    LOL great commercial!

  26. Ally says:

    Totally his best comic performance!

The actress in the commercial is even better. Her muted amazement is marvellous. In an American version of this, they would have had her jumping up and down, screaming.

  27. WH says:

Love the commercial. That was great, but really??? George Clooney looking for a house in Lillestrom??? that is the wrong side of town. He would have looked at Holmenkollen, Snaroya, Baerum Kommune, Vindern, or anywhere in the west side of Oslo.

  28. mln76 says:

The man is so charming. I can’t not love him no matter how messy his love life is.

  29. Jamie says:

@MissyA you’ve had me in stitches LOL

  30. observer says:

    The commercial is hilarious!

  31. Snowbunny says:

Love this commercial, the actress does an excellent job and the look on her face is perfect. Hilarious, how come when I wake up from a long night of drinking I’m not married to George. The dress line was great.

  32. LucyOriginal says:

I loved this commercial, great idea and well executed by the actors. George is charming, but dhis charm doesn’t fool me, lol.

  33. Adrien says:

George was v adorable in Fantastic Mr. Fox. I thought it was a bad idea to get him voice an animation coz he’s too Danny Ocean, but now I couldn’t think of any actor to voice Mr. Fox.

  34. Amanda says:

@23 – I agree. Clive Owen in this would have only made it better!

I love George and this commercial…so smart and so funny. I don’t know why celebs will only do commercials overseas – the US advertisers must not want to pay the big bucks that foreign advertisers will – although I remember reading an article one time about how the A-Listers were doing ads overseas and making a ton of money. They refused to do them in the US because it was seen as something that could hurt their careers. Such a double standard.

  35. Eleonor says:

Nowadays he’s better in commercials than in his latest movies.

  36. Rebecca says:

Off subject but is George Clooney on the “downlow” Check out the below blind item and I also googled George Clooney and I was surprised at some of the pictures I saw him in with “said lover and family of said lover”???

Cookie Muncher Gobbles Ladycake While Her Dude Nabs Mansnacks! Many of you seem to have been shocked, simply shocked, at the girl-on-girl desires of gorgeous Cookie Muncher. She has a thing for satisfying the ladies from time to time, see, and we don’t mean by serving them tea. What’s the big deal? She’s still much more into her handsome man than the chicks. She just likes to have her ladycake and eat it, too, no biggie. Well, guess who else is into having some nice (beef)cake on the side? Cookie’s main man, that’s who! Makes sense. Now we know why Cookie’s never hidden her lesbian-leaning side! Now, this good-lookin’ guy of Cookie’s—who’s less famous than his partner—is starting to get pretty habitual with his playing around, which was never really part of the deal he originally struck with Cookie. And he’s getting a bit more flagrant than Cookie ever was, as well. So, what does this mean? Do you think Cookie will up her Sapphic game? Will she give her guy an ultimatum, or just go straight to handing him his walking papers? Don’t think so. If we know Cookie like we think we do, she’s just gonna ask to join in next time her guy takes his guy on date. Cookie’s a ravenous girl! AND IT AIN’T: Sandra Bullock, Britney Spears, Reese Witherspoon. ANSWER: Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, Clooney Clooney

  37. Donna says:

Yep! I love reading blind items and I do believe that blind item is true. Cindy Crawford liking women is not news! LOL. But when I read about George Clooney, I was in shock. On the other hand, isn’t almost every male “gay”, “in the closet” or on the “downlow? Is that a prerequisite in Hollywood??? LOL. And I think Brad Pitt or Matt Damon mad a joking comment about George being gay?? Hell his friends know also!!

  38. Wolfgang Gunnerson says:

The blind is written by Kirstie Alley the fat Z-list actress. She also writes on Clooney’s Board as PrefertoRemainAnonymous and WhippedHoney.
In her fat exile, that’s all she could do.
    Apparently it’s “research” for her.
This is an industry leak. No lie!

  39. Aqua says:

If that were me,and with my luck, I probably would have died from a heart attack.

  40. Lou Coatney says:

This is GREAT stuff. I’m an American living with my Norwegian wife and our 2 small children right next door to Lillestrøm, and we are looking forward to meeting George and his new wife at the first opportunity. 🙂

I understand the actress is Danish. Does anyone know her name?
