‘Moneyball’ review: Brad Pitt’s best (and hottest) performance ever?

pitt3

OK, I went to see Moneyball with my mother yesterday, and something really weird happened: my mother is now in love with Brad Pitt. She always sort-of liked him, as is she would say things like “He’s very pretty and kind of talented, meh.” But she was having a hot flash for him in Moneyball. It helps that all of a sudden, Brad looks a hell of a lot like Robert Redford. He’s always been Redford-ish, and obviously, people have always made the Pitt-Redford comparison, but this movie… dear God, Brad looks good. So much of the movie is based on his face in closeup too – and you know what, Pitt-haters? He doesn’t look like he’s had any work done on his face, at all. His eyes are lined and baggy. His skin is sagging a bit. But he looks like what he is: a very, very attractive man in his 40s. My mom kept saying, “He doesn’t look young any more. He doesn’t look a pretty young guy now. He’s filled out, and DAMN it looks good.”

Of course, it helps that the movie was really, really good. The theatre I went to was packed, with men and women of all ages. I was surprised that there weren’t more kids there – not little kids, but like 10-13 year-olds, because I could see this being a film that would be nice for a father to see with his tween son or daughter. It’s a surprisingly clean, well-acted, charming story. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it too – it’s not some art-house flick about math and a boring general manager of a baseball team. There are some funny lines, there’s a lot of heart and sweetness, and the story was just told in a great way.

If you don’t know the basics of the plot by now – it’s just about Oakland As general manager Billy Beane, and how he challenged professional baseball by disregarding the traditional thinking of how to put together a team. Instead of listening to scouts and trying to buy the best known players, Beane hires Peter Brand, a young Yalie who convinced Beane to put together a team of misfits and undervalued players using computer analysis and cold, hard numbers. Jonah Hill (under)plays Brand brilliantly, and Joanh and Brad’s chemistry is really sweet. Jonah really impressed me – I didn’t know he could do this kind of understated dramatic role, and he just nailed it.

Other notables: Robin Wright’s role (as Beane’s ex-wife and mother of his daughter) was very simple, but she made an impression. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays the A’s manager Art Howe, who… I hope wasn’t this big of a d-bag. There were also a scene-stealing performances by Chris Pratt (who played Scott Hatteberg, a first-baseman who was scared of the ball) and Kerris Dorsey, who played Beane’s daughter. She was adorable.

Oh, and if Brad doesn’t get an Oscar nomination for this movie, I’ll eat my hat. It was so wonderful to see him do this kind of mainstream, Robert Redford-ish film. I’m still giggling over one scene in which Beane, who is always eating, is anxious about a trade, so in-between calls he begins to panic-eat by shoving a handful of stuff (popcorn?) into his mouth.

    Ooh I’m off to see this with my buds hopefully it’s good.

  2. Joanna says:

    My bf and I saw it the other night. It was good! And yes, Brad still looks good!

  3. CandyKay says:

    Great to see an at least remotely original movie coming out of Hollywood.

  4. madax says:

    He won’t never get an Oscar. You’ll see. And I’m not fell sorry for him. Loser.

  5. sandy#1 says:

    yay!!! i agree, people are loving it, more important they are loving brad, brad is a good guy, great actor, nay sayers feel differently, that’s fine, brad’s been around forever, and he is not going any where soon, he is at the top of his game, Oscar anyone?

  6. Cheyenne says:

    Haven’t seen it yet, but the movie and Pitt’s performance are getting terrific reviews. 97% among top critics on rottentomatoes.com and 94% overall. They’re already talking about an Oscar nomination.

  7. madax says:

    And there is one more thing his movie won’t even score #1 at box office.

  8. ann carter says:

    you are SO 100-percent right about this. Have always loved his work but he’s a grown up now. For the first time I didn’t see Brad Pitt AT ALL in this role. He was Billy Beane. Right also about glimpses of Redford. Pitt is world weary and has the mileage on him now and looks better than ever. He was amazing. Oscar buzz is deserved. He’s always been soulful but the family life really brings it out and onto the screen.

  9. hatsumomo says:

    Thanks for making my bad morning even worse. I still havent seen it.

  10. ann carter says:

    kudos also to Jonah Hill. He was great. The whole cast…superb film, so rare these days.

  11. svetlana says:

    The real Art Howe’s photo is in the dictionary next to the definition of “milquetoast.” seriously, he’s a mild mannered, polite, nice man. I’m not even a huge fan of the way he managed my team, towards the end anyway. Movies need villains, but it sucks that they didn’t change his name the way they did with dePodesta to Brand, and that people who didn’t follow his teams now think he’s a prick. I think he was interviewed somewhere last week and he was upset.

    Also, Ed Harris would’ve been much better casting, physically

  12. *ajalahtravel* says:

    F…. The Oscars. They hardly ever honour those that truly deserve the trophy.

  13. LucyOriginal says:

    I saw moneyball yesterday. I liked the movie a lot, but I don’t think Brad pitt deserves to be nominated for any award (for that matter). There are better actors out there with greater performances than his own.

  14. gmab says:

    Oh more brad Pitt butt kissing. His face has been on every website I’ve visited for the last few weeks and the Lion King still beat him. Some fans have compared his performance to the oceans 11,12 &13 movies.

  15. nan says:

    Looking forward to seeing this movie. Brad seems at his best. I soooo hope he gets an Oscar nod for this one!!

  16. JP Fan says:

    OMG I loved Moneyball. It was amazing first I saw it with hubby, then went to see it again with 2 of my kids.

    Brad was awesome so was Jonah. Brad and Hill together were such an unlikely but adorable duo. They reminded me of Abbott & Costello/Laurel & Hardy at times. LOL

    MB is a really great movie even non baseball fans will enjoy. ITA, Brad will/should get nominated for Oscar’s but I loved Brad’s performance in Tree of Life as well.
    Bottom line is there are so many politics re Oscars I have given up on their “fair” judgement because Angie should have gotten a nod for AMH and won for Changeling . Brad got snubbed for his outstanding performance in AOJJ as well as for CCOBB.
    It doesn’t matter because this year was really Brad’s year that’s all that matters. I am sure Clooney will be doing his usual smooze fest aka kissing ass with the Oscar voters and I am sure he will fall short again…at least I hope he does cause it is getting very old every awards season watching his Oscar campaign with a new RC hired help.
    Hmmmm speaking of hired help and Oscar’s, I am sure Jen will crash on the JP’s Oscar parade again like she did two years ago with the short balding thing this time instead of JM who dumped her for the second time two days after he fulfilled his contract with Huvane LOL

  17. serena says:

    I really hope he gets a Oscar. He deserves it.

  18. Sam says:

    Yeah, Moneyball was such a great movie! I wasn’t expecting to be that good, me and my friends loved it. Brad was so great in this. He will be Oscar nominated for this movie i’m sure!

  19. rachel says:

    Please don’t try to distract us away from the piece of shit he really is.

  20. cheryl says:

    The movie was awesome, Brad Pitt looks sexy as hell and Jonah Hill was wonderful and did underplay but brought heart to his character.

  21. FUZI says:

    New interview with Rade Serbedzija

    this is part about Brad and Angie

    And Brad Pitt?

    He`s great. You see, he met Angelina. She is an incredible woman. Completely unreal, wonderful and warm person. And what is important to say about her is that her humanism is not a pose. It’s really her deep conviction, her trips to the battlefield. I tell her, “Angie, it’s dangerous,” and she says briefly: “Yes.”A bullet can go astray. Look, she walks, goes there shaking hands with the children, hugging people, gives them gifts, money. This is not a pose. It is a courage. She wants to make this world a better place. But she`s vulnerable as a little girl. Indeed, I was totally impressed and before we started working together on her film. She insisted that I play the role. Then we started the correspondence, we had long conversations and I discovered a divine person. I knew Brad from the time before he met her. We met on the set of Guy Ritchie`s movie “Snech.” He was completely different. Now, he is gentle, kind and easygoing. Matured in some way.

    Why is he a “piece of shit” @rachel (I mean Jennifer). STFU.

  25. Chloe (not chloe) says:

    So the wrath of the Goddess Circle was not enough for the movie to sink?

    Gee, that’s a surprise.

    Moneyball’s awesome, btw. I know nothing about baseball but this movie is great.

  26. lil says:

    even tough baseball isn’t popular in my country and I don’t know about it much, I can appreciate a good movie, with good acting. Waiting to see Moneyball in my country!

  27. wresa says:

    Mmm young men look good but my this is my favorite age/look. He looks sexier than he has in years, maybe ever.

    This movie wasn’t on my radar, but maybe I will catch a matinee now!

  28. Toe says:

    Kaiser,
    I didnt see it yet, but reading your first paragraph, I already wetted my pants….Hope the movie comes to my island.

  29. Dede says:

    @gmab whats wrong..you upset because moneyball didnt bomb the way you jen fans were saying it would just because he dare call jen boring..MB has the best opening for a baseball film, baseball movies do not do well, check the stats..whats wrong with coming in number 2? you all were creaming in your pants last week ever since the parade interview that this movie would flop. Kids movies usually always do better than a sports movie(and lion king is for Kids and adults, i grew up with that moive and its still my fav disney movie) thats common sense. dont be mad becaue MB has 94% RT and critics are raving about the film and Pitt

  30. Zzzzzzzzz says:

    He is terrific in this movie. And it’s a pretty terrific movie. The reviews have been great, pretty much anyone that matters in the industry has given it a thumbs up. I think Brad has matured as an actor, Tree of Life and now Moneyball is some of his best work ever. And yes, the man is mighty hot.

  31. islandgirl says:

    LOL@ the haters. Now after saying that MB will bombed it didn’t so now they are spining more bullsh*t.

    Well done BP and MB. Great movie and I expect some nominations come award seasons.

  32. islandgirl says:

    Dede: They painful upset becuase things didn’t go their way. They think that the world revolve about their idol and if you say anything bad about her,then the whole world would turn against you….NOT

    MB exceeded expectations concerning it is a sport movie and generally sport movies don’t do well; but of course they would look at it as been a bombed to make themselves feel better.

  33. islandgirl says:

    madax: ahh sorry that MB didn’t bombed for you…not lol

  34. Dede says:

    It you go on usmagazine theres a poll asking what movie ppl waanted to see and Abduction is beating MB..lmao these are the same bitter jen fans that said Brads movie was toast and that lautner would win..the great thing about MBs OW is that ppl are loving the movie and I have no doubt that word of mouth will make this movie do very well..a bomb is 11mil action movie starring a guy from a very popular fan base..projections for MB was 16mil-23mil, how is it a bomb?

  35. OriginalGracie says:

    I am absolutely going to see this with my daughter.

    I personally loved Brad the most in:

    1. Fight Club. (who else could have worn those crazy pants and that fur jacket in that one scene when he’s at the table, and still looked hot as hell?)

    2. Inglorious Basterds. Just loved the accent and his whole character.

    The promo pics and the trailer have Brad looking just scorching hot and somehow very relatable and down to earth. Intriguing. And the comparisons to Redford are right on the money.

  36. katyalia says:

    To be fair, Bounty hunter opened better than that, was cheaper to produce and everybody has been calling it a bomb.
    Can’t have it both ways.

  37. Cheyenne says:

    Abduction is getting lousy reviews all across the board. However, lousy reviews never prevented a movie from doing well.

    Moneyball has already made $20 million as of yesterday and the weekend isn’t over yet.

    Sorry, Jenhens, but your influence over the box office is zip.

  38. pamela says:

    Here is a video of Ms. Aniston describing her marriage and life with Brad.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAenRiwrtoY

  39. Javagirl1 says:

    As long as BP’s not attempting an accent, I will probably go see it.

  40. F5 says:

    No, thank you.

  41. Cheyenne says:

    @katyalia: I don’t remember anyone calling The Bounty Hunter a bomb. It did fairly well thanks to Aniston having a very hot co-star, who was the reason people went to see it. It also illustrates my comment above that movies can do well at the box office despite lousy reviews, which The Bounty Hunter had from almost everyone who reviewed it. Seven percent on rottentomatoes from general reviewers and four — four! — percent from top reviewers is not something any actor likes to brag about. Most of Butler’s fans thought the movie would have done much better if another actress had taken Aniston’s place, although the script was said to be horrible to begin with.

    This was one of my favorite reviews:
    “As a lousy mystery and lousier romantic comedy, The Bounty Hunter is two bad films in one.”

  42. JP Fan says:

    Pamela, thank you for the video…There are so many more interviews with Jennypoo while they were married and ho she dissed him all the time…but her pathetic fans REFUSE to remember them.

    What is hilarious is Jennypoo said the exact same things WHILE they were married …She said their marriage was boring and uninteresting on Letterman LMAO!!! So the ho cried herself a river and threw endless pity parties and screamed at the ocean cause her “boring and uninteresting marriage” ended for over 6 damn years? LOL

    Watch this video….This better STF up the Dullistons lmao.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAenRiwrtoY

    Here is her GG win when Huvane tells her she blew it since she thanked everyone and their brother BUT Brad this was a whole damn year before Brad even met Angie! LOL

  43. N.D. says:

    @katyalia Bounty Hunter wasn’t a baseball movie. The standard opening for baseball movie is around 15mil. Monbeyball is making record for this genre as we speak.

  44. Deltona lakes says:

    I saw on another blog.. Jerry Steinfeld tweeted best movie I’ve seen in 10 years…The critics are saying best baseball movie since bill Durham..

  45. Evie (not Eve) says:

    Holy hell – is it possible to to talk about Brad Pitt’s movie without bringing his ex into it? Why bring random incriminating YouTube clips in for absolutely no reason. Enjoy his success a little more, it looks like a great movie.

  46. pwal says:

    So the wrath of the Goddess Circle was not enough for the movie to sink?

    Gee, that’s a surprise.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Yeah… isn’t it? Because, you know, they demonstrated the full measure of their strength in supporting his films during the Aniston years, i.e. Fight Club and Snatch…
    And yes, Brad looks smoking hot in this movie, especially when his back was turned to the camera. Those shoulders and back – yum! Don’t get me wrong… he looked good facing the camera, but he was so compelling as Billy Beane, you kinda forget to ogle him, IMO. And yet again, he proves that he can hold his own with powerhouse actors like Philip Seymour Hoffman.
    And Jonah Hill and Chris Pratt… they added to the film’s heart.
  47. Dede says:
    lol at the jen fans comparing BH to MB..are you really that desperate to compare a action comedy thats suppse to do good to a baseball movie..the Ugly Truth with Heigl made 27mil OW and BH made 20mil thats WHY some ppl said it bombed..they were comparing it to a previous Butler movie…what happen to MB bombing like you all predicted
  48. Julia says:
    Congrats to Jonah and Brad ! Glad that Brad has definitely chosen the path to do serious, grown ups projects with great directors and great actors. He is maturing in his craft and it’s good for an actor.
    And Brad, get that third Oscar nomination for best Actor please !
    Let the jen fans from US Magazine enjoy their 3% rated (RT) ABDUCTION with their teeny weenie, bimboish usual taste.
  49. Bill Hicks is God says:
    What is it about this mediocre cornfed that holds such sex appeal? Not my type, meh.
    @Deltona lakes: “I saw on another blog.. Jerry Steinfeld tweeted best movie I’ve seen in 10 years”
    Do you mean ‘Seinfeld,’ you know, the one who spent the entire screening of ‘Schindler’s List’ with his face welded to his girlfriend?
    I would put more stock in a fly’s fart than anything Seinfeld says, particularly on the subject of cinema.
  50. Deltona lakes says:
    Yes that Jerry seinfeld… The one who is married with three children in 2011..and happens to be one of most successful and richest comedian today .. Yes that Jerry seinfeld.
  51. Zzzzzzzzz says:
    @Billhicksisgod – way to seize on just one example of someone enjoying the movie. Seinfeld is just one guy out of many who have had good things to say about the movie. But you’ll probably not put any stock in anything they have to say about it either, right?
  52. pamela says:
    WOW, there are some VERY ANGRY Jenhens here today. LOL.
    BTW #45 Aniston was ALREADY mentioned when #36 quite naively compared MB to BH. As if there is any comparison. LOL. Butall kidding aside, wasn’t the video an eye-opener? I thought so.
    Bye now.
  53. Deltona lakes says:
    @hicks
    No comment on the film critics? most agree that brad’s performance is Oscar worthy, gave the film an A-.., the best baseball film since Bill Durham.. Btw jerry’s not the only star tweeting how great the film is..
    Did anyone really think that JA’s diminishing fan base would cause this movie to bomb?
    Remember mr and mrs smith made almost 500 million world wide.
    Her fans don’t even support any movies that she’s the sole star ie “The Switch”…
  54. Madison says:
    Looking forward to seeing this movie, I’ve read a lot of good reviews about it and now this one.
  55. Runs with Scissors says:
    @Bill Hicks: I think you might be referring to a FICTIONAL moment from Seinfeld’s TV show…
    Please say you aren’t a delusional JenHen who is morally affronted by any success her ex enjoys…
  56. Cheyenne says:
    Dede: It you go on usmagazine theres a poll asking what movie ppl waanted to see and Abduction is beating MB
    ==============================================
    Abduction pulled in $11 million, despite opening in more theaters than Moneyball, and got some of the worst reviews ever posted on rottentomatoes. A big fat ZERO from top critics and three percent overall.
  57. Cheyenne says:
    I’m fairly certain some low-IQ loonifer will come on here braying “Nyah-nyah, The Lion King” beat “Moneyball”, so I’ll post this in advance now:
    “The Lion King” beat “Moneyball” at the box office by 7%.
    “The Lion King” is a 3-D movie.
    Tickets for 3-D movies cost 30% more than tickets for regular movies.
    If tickets for both movies were the same price, “Moneyball” would have scored first place easily.
  58. FUZI says:
    Discuss the filmography of Jennifer Aniston is a joke … Who cares … Moneyball is fascinating and doing very well, and it’s so good to read material with the actors, director, producer, Billy Bean … the process was difficult and Brad is so pacional this film and is so good how he has matured, it’s great to see his interviews, he really knows how to pick good movies. And this is reflected also as producer, it was important that he gets his own production company. It’s so stupid to be talking on flop or success every actor has his failings, is part of his career.
  59. DenG says:
    Well, #4, madax, “He won’t never get an Oscar. You’ll see. And I’m not fell sorry for him. Loser.” That’s really showing us your command of the English language. I’m not fell sorry for you either. Are you a Loser too?
  60. Riana says:
    …ugh, clique fighting and catty comments, it’s always gross when two sides of the same delusional coin think they’re better than the other.
    Whether some Jen fans love or hate Brad it borders on stupid to think they were going to see the movie in the first place. No offense to Pitt or the film but The audience for those films is never really geared towards women. Women do go for a story, rarely, but most either go for the ‘hot guy factor’ or with their boyfriends. I never check out sports films nonmatter how moving/touching they are.
    Now get RDJ in a sport’s film and I may greatly consider. Glad to know the film did well though, I was rooting for it mostly because of his young co-star.
  61. Julia says:
    @ FUZI
    ITA.
    I like how Brad has been embracing his career during those last years. He has definitely branched to producing and as an actor goes for meatier projects and is credible in it while others his generation are still struggling to do more of that and waste their talent in too many commercial flicks.
    Don’t get my wrong, i like those commercial movies, i just wish more talented actors will do meatier roles like these.
    I like Brad’s maturing process, always looking and pushing for projects that indulge more brains, more maturity and him going outside his comfort zone.
    In the same weekend you have MONEYBALL with Pitt and then you have Killer Elite with De Niro keeping on wasting his talent (like in Little Fokers), a movie that did even less than Teeny Abduction, it’s just too depressive to see those iconic great actors wasting their talent.
    Do some commercials but put some great projects into the mix.
  62. lio says:
    Pitt is a movie star. Was one before his divorce and before his wedding. Aniston is a sitcom and a rom-com actress. Was one before her divorce and before her wedding. Big deal. Still don’t see no reason to trash her. If she was not good enough for him, he shoudn’t have married her in the first place.
  63. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:
    Brad Pitt does look so much like Robert Redford, my fave BP movie is Legends of the Fall.
  64. R says:
    @BretEastonEllis Bret Easton Ellis
    “Moneyball” is the only movie I’ve seen so far this year where a paying Los Angeles audience applauded at the end. In tears, me included.
  65. flan says:
    Sounds like a film I must see!
    @Fuzi, Angie indeed strikes me as one of the most courageous celebrities out there.
  66. LucyOriginal says:
    I like Chris Pratt since Everwood. I was happy to see him in moneyball and how well he acted.
  67. Courtney says:
    you people have to realize the last two sports films that did anything at the oscars were both about horse racing as in National Velvet in 1944 and Seabiscuit in 2003 National Velvet actually won 6 oscars in 1945 and seabusicuit lost all the oscars it was nominated for in 2004. yeah Mr Pitt may Resemble Mr Redford but desn’t have the native charm or magnetic screen presence
  68. anonymous says:
    The only reason I went to see Money Ball was to see Brad Pitt on the big screen and I wasn’t disappointed. Yea people I saw his sexy self-up there! If I could find the money I’m going back again.
  69. Camille says:
    I’m looking forward to seeing this movie, it looks great and I am happy that it is doing well both with BO and with critics. WTG Brad.
  70. teri says:
    @boo, I was thinking the same thing. rotf girl.
  71. JP Fan says:
    Moneyball over 50 critics reviews.
    http://moviereviewintelligence.com/movie-reviews/moneyball/
    Way too many excellent reviews to post them all, but the reaction is unanimous MB and Brad HIT a HOMERUN with ALL bases loaded!!!
  72. mln76 says:
    Just got back from the movies I loved it for all the reasons Kaiser stated in her review(I wish there was more scenes with Robin Wright though). The audience applauded after the film young and old alike walked out saying how great they thought it was. Oh and the irony of madax calling Pitt a loser in the context of this film makes me smile (those who saw it know what I am talking about) I can’t see how he doesn’t get nominated.
  73. LucyOriginal says:
    @Courtney: “Mr Pitt may Resemble Mr Redford but desn’t have the native charm or magnetic screen presence.” Thank you for bringing some common sense here, :). Robert Redford is Robert Redford, Brad Pitt is Brad Pitt and the latter is far far from being close to the talent, screen presence, charm and intelligence of Mr. Redford. I think this nonsense got really strong after they shot spy game together…
  74. Chris says:
    I heard a lot of Aniston fans were vowing not to see it because of Brad’s comments. But given the genre they probably wouldn’t have seen it anyway.
    Also, I can’t believe they got so upset about what he said. They’ve obviously lead very sheltered lives. I’ll see it when it comes out on DVD.
  75. I wanted to see Moneyball this weekend…But…I couldn’t get past the angry mob of bitter,pitchfork wielding women gathering on my front lawn.
  76. JP Fan says:
    Just an FYI.
    from SimplyBrad.
    Moneyball Japan Premiere!
    Brad and his family are expected to visit Japan early November. Brad will attend the Moneyball premiere, Moneyball will be released November 11th, 2011.
  77. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:
    Moneyball was fantastic and Brad Pitt is the man to beat.
    The push will be Moneyball as lead actor and Tree of Life as supporting actor.
    Critical acclaim is where it’s at. And since he has not been living a pretend uninteresting life, his movies have been getting critical acclaim on the regular. Look it up. I can’t find fault in that. Something or someone has done him good and lit a fire in him. What films he has coming later sound like more of the same. Hollywood loves Mr. Pitt for good reason. That’s where it counts. No interview will change that.
    Pamela, that video is amazing. They used the same words to describe their marraige, yet people had the nerve to take offense. It must have been the truth for both parties, meaning Angie is NO HOMEWRECKER, but a HOMEBUILDER. You can even throw out timelines as Jen’s video is before MAMS. WOW, just WOW. Mr Pitt deserves an apology for the nasty name calling, unless they will call Jen the same. He trashed no one. And he was not stolen. He won’t get an apology, but he sure does have his truth. That was a messed up marraige. Probably no ones fault just not meant to be, but man. Sad, to think they lived it. Angie is a remarkable woman to endure years of hating for what it seems did nothing but give his life purpose. Thanks.
  78. hmmmm says:
    I went to see Moneyball on Friday and loved it – he really does deserve an Oscar nomination so I hope it works out for him.
    He did have that young Robert Redford look going on in this movie, especially in the scene where he visited Fenway Park in Boston. Hello, Robert Redford!
    Honestly, my favorite Brad movie has been Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He was so funny, sexy, macho, great movie script and his chemistry with Angie was out of this world. They both did great.
    Bounty Hunter was horrible. That movie cannot be defended in any way – I like some of Jen’s movies but this one was so bad!
  79. Valarie says:
    Am going to see the movie, but Brad Pitts hottest performance was most definitely in Legends of the Fall!
  80. whitedaisy says:
    Wow. What a great film. I didn’t have much hope for it, but all of the actors, including Pitt were absolutely outstanding. Who knew baseball was so interesting?
    Not a fan of him or his acting most of the time, but will see any film if it’s good. Sounds like this one is, plus I love Chris Pratt from Parks & Rec. Probably won’t go to the theater to see it, but will wait for DVD.
  82. Cheyenne says:
    @Valarie: I liked him very much in LOTF but I felt the movie itself was overlong.
    @Hmmmm: Mr. and Mrs. Smith was terrific. He and Angie had killer chemistry in that movie and they seemed to have so much fun playing off against each other.
  83. Dudette says:
    Fabulous movie. Really enjoyed it and the theatre I saw it in was packed. Think Brad has gotten better with his movie choices and is doing some good work. I recently just saw Burn after Reading and he was great in that!
  84. TabbyCat says:
    I’m so happy for Brad, he so deserves this after the tabloid VENDETTA week he has experienced. I like to think its a big “F YOU!” to the haters and to the
    tabloids that turned a simple comment about himself only into a big drama to make Brad a villain again. I’m happy with the karma of this, he is definitely ‘winning’ where it counts. After the disgusting abuse he has experienced in the last week, he so deserves this and I am happy for him. Go Brad!
  85. trh says:
    To the bizarrely illiterate haters on this thread: good luck mastering the perfect tenses of see, and for that matter, run and is.
    Critics say Moneyball is good. Run and see it.
    Had I been solvent this past weekend, I would have run and seen it.
    Grammar is just so boring. It just sits on the couch smoking pot all day. Grammar never wants to do anything fun that I want to do.
  86. Sakyiwaa says:
    Splendid! Awesome! Elated to hear the movie is doing great! Good thing the negative media blitz did not affect it!
    Btw, I kinda thought about the so-called ‘shizz’ again for a bit during the weekend… and I wondered (cos I’ve finally read the entire Parade interview)…SO I thought “why was it that OUT of the MANY things Brad said; the media just had to go to all up in arms over that one line (or two) about his marriage? I mean, talk about “selective reporting”!
    Don’t get me wrong, though an Angeloonie and a ‘Brad4eva’ lover, I wished he hadn’t said that at all cos that FAILED marriage deserves to remain in the PAST where it belongs…
    Now though, I’m thinking “what was the BFD, America?” Today, I’m learning even the EX said nearly the EXACT same things DURING the marriage.(Thanks to all who posted vids:D!)
    At least, BP said his piece SEVEN years AFTER the fact… Now I’m thinking “How could the media put such a spin on it? And I believed them! Wow. Just wow!” Keep on ‘rocking’, BP! HOT! Love him!
    Can’t wait to see it! Fave movie of mine is definitely ‘Interview with A Vampire’! HOT! (I like the fact that he didn’t even enjoy doing it and working with TC. It sorta adds to the allure cos nevertheless, on screen it was just PERFECT to me!)
    Of course, I love all his latest work too! Hope he gets the Oscar nom for TOL or MB. Don’t matter! so long as I get to see him and AJ represent! More POWER to him:)!
  87. thesea says:
    tse tse tse…poor Deltona Lakes…
    not only is it Seinfeld, not Steinfeld,
    but it’s Bull Durham, not Bill Durham.
    How old or how stoned are you?
    Next!
  88. Bill Hicks is God says:
    @Scissors: Nope. It occurred with his girlfriend at the time Shoshanna Lonstein and it was written into the show because it caused such a flap. So there you go.
  89. WhiteNoise says:
    @JP Fan @ 3:43pm
    “…She said their marriage was boring and uninteresting on Letterman LMAO!!! Watch this video….This better STF up the Dullistons lmao.”
    Oh my. You plainly are ‘challenged’ in some way if you are interpreting this interview as some dig at Pitt. She was joking for god’s sake!! You know, joking? Making light of the frenzy surrounding their life and the actual reality – eg. our life is really just normal and not worthy of this huge interest?!?
    You loons really are too much. I’m sure there’s lots of reasons to have a bonafide go at JA but seriously, get a grip.
  90. Eve says:
    @ HorsePoorHanna:
    I wanted to see Moneyball this weekend…But…I couldn’t get past the angry mob of bitter,pitchfork wielding women gathering on my front lawn.
    LMAO!
    On topic: I can’t stand baseball. I sometimes watch some of it on ESPN (international) — while I’m flipping through the channels — and it bores me to tears. I have also disliked Pitt’s acting since I can remember, BUT…I’ll watch this one just to increase its box office 🙂 .
    It’ll open in 18 November (here in Brazil).
  91. Julia says:
    Brad can say whatever he wants about his marriage without referring it first to a bunch of strangers. He can qualifies his marriage or his past, present relationship how he wants. It’s HIS.
    Just like the woman involved in it can qualify it how they want.
    The most ridiculous is not the comment, but the collective hysteria in the US, and only in the US of an angry female mob and some tabs about one man qualifying his own past as he want, as he sees fits.
    The problem is not Brad, the problem is the overeaction of perfect strangers who act like they were the ones in that marriage while the ex stay still.
    Some were even acting like he should not be given the permission to talk about that relationhsip without they preemptively give him the permission and in their own terms.
    What next ? A fatwa against him for commenting on his own former marriage, on his own terms ?
    Please, Pitt comments may have been a dig or offensive or whatever to some and could have been phrased differently so that others (you know who you are) wouldn’t be given the material to exploit it and use it in their recurrent vendetta but the bigger losers, are those perfect strangers engulfed in collective hysteria over THIS.
    They acted more pathetic, controlling and desperate than ever by trying to control and monitor one man’s right to speak about HIS OWN LIFE, past or present the way he likes it, when HE decides it, on his OWN terms.
    It’s one thing not to agree with his comments, it’s another to try to shout his trap. That’s banana republic like kinda behaviour and that’s the most pathetic, reprehensible and subversive behaviour from all this mess.
  92. Runs with Scissors says:
    @Bill Hicks, that’s actually pretty funny, thanks!
    @HorsePoorHanna: “I wanted to see Moneyball this weekend…But…I couldn’t get past the angry mob of bitter,pitchfork wielding women gathering on my front lawn.”
    Me too! They had my whole house surrounded! I had to break through the clucking ‘Goddess Circle’ using self-esteem dust and truth serum (they are repelled by both).
  93. Bill Hicks is God says:
    @Scissors: You’re welcome – the parents’ reaction was hilarious wasn’t it 🙂
  94. Sakyiwaa says:
    Lol! Of course, JA was joking. She’s a comedienne! Those people are ‘never’ serious about what they say. Ever.
    That’s why her marriage is still ‘intact’.
    NIKKI FINKE | Monday September 26, 2011 @ 8:38am PDT
    MONDAY AM, 8TH UPDATE: As a studio exec exclaimed to me this morning: “I guess there’s been a reason there has never been three $20 mil pics on a September weekend. Football!” Monday numbers show both Moneyball ($19.5M) and Dolphin Tale ($19.1M) missed the mark.
    http://www.deadline.com/2011/09/footbal … mber-pics/
    It’ll be out on DVD in a month
  96. Runs with Scissors says:
    @Olivia: yeah, they released it during a football season weekend, might have been bad timing. That doesn’t detract from the film itself or how well it’s been received critically.
    No matter how gleefully you say it, I highly doubt it will be released on DVD in a month, lol.
  97. Runs With Scissors** Thanks,I’ll add that to my ‘Tips on how to survive Brad Pitt woman scorned land’ list!! Eve** I’m glad your back!!
  98. Runs with Scissors says:
    At HorsePoorHanna, don’t forget to flash your pilot’s license, that sends them off in fits of jealous rage.
    *Hi Eve*!!!
  99. Sakyiwaa says:
    @Horsepoor Hanna. Hiyya there! on the last AJ thread, you made me laugh so hard I had to go pee! lol! thanks!
    Olivia again… Though, didn’t the flick make 20.3 million?! Says so on Lainey and USWeekly…
    Wow! Now, everybody’s quoting figures all over the place… (chuckles)
    Anyway, I admire the bravado it took for Columbia Pictures to release a ‘baseball’ movie in the midst of ‘Football…!”
    🙂
  100. G says:
    So Aniston’s fans threatened to stay away from Moneyball in retaliation for Pitt’s comments. The joke’s on Aniston. Her fans don’t go to movies. 🙂
  101. Ally says:
    Ugh, I’m sorry, Pitt’s acting is still on the level of a good-looking 20-year old who just moved to LA. He’s like Clooney in that you see every technique, and every ’emotion’ just looks like “Brad Pitt acting” or “George Clooney acting”, not the character.
    I love Redford, and Pitt is no Redford. I don’t know why even Redford buys into this absurd comparison.
  102. lio says:
    @WhiteNoise: anybody with at least 5% of honesty would agree with you :she starts the interview by complaining about their lack of privacy and living in a “fish bowl”, then follows a very invasive question about what they are doing during their private moments and she answers something about “boring stuff” and “the same as other couple”, which obviously mean “leave us alone” and not “my husband is so boring, that I have to sleep with my co-worker and start an adoption process behind his bach”. Anyway…whatever!
  103. original kate says:
    no way is brad in “moneyball” hotter than brad in “fight club.”
    tyler durden rules.
  104. Deltona lakes says:
  106. lil says:
    correct me if I’m wrong… Robert Redford did not win almost anything as an actor, did he?
    I remember very good movies of him, but the academy or whatever hardly ever nominated him until he was in her 50s or so, same thing happened to ther very good actors, like Paul Newman…
    The likeness, well, I see it sometimes, but Robert and Brad suffered from being called pretty boys when they were younger. Probably that’s what caused the lack of award wins to them and the others.
    I hope he gets nominated again and that he wins if he deserves it. Quite a few actors haven’t won or never did.
  107. crtb says:
    No I am not a Jennifer fan but I will not be seeing this movie. I don’t care how great it is suppose to be. I found his comments cruel. It’s been 7 years for christ sake! Why is he still moaning about his ex, if he is sooooo happy? Time to move on Brad. No need to keep bring up your ex-wifes name in evey interview. Get on with you life with your new partner and your herd of kids.
  108. Cheyenne says:
    @crtb: I think the movie will do well enough without the Jenhens’ support. They never intended to see it anyway so claiming they won’t see it because Brad talked about his marriage is a total crock.
  109. Victoria says:
    Like I said before this was even posted, he’s still winning.
    I planned to only see three movies this year in theatre (normally I don’t support Hollywood at all with my hard earned cash): Moneyball, Breaking Dawn (proud cheeseball spaz always), and whatever random film that interests me.
    I loved Moneyball. When I went to theatre, it was crowded. Everyone laughed and enjoyed all of the performances. Brad was great and I normally am “meh” about him. And I was totally feeling Jonah as Brand. I’ll be checking out his other stuff too. Good plot and pacing, and I never got bored.
    I was also happy to see a lot guys out with their kids having a kind of bonding time with them and it was a diverse crowd.
    Moneyball brought people together. At least in my section of Philly.
  110. sandy#1 says:
    i love j/p that goes without saying, but i am not too invested in them where i go to each site, etc. i want them very happy, i have heard some pro j/p fans make claims about the opposing team (ja lol) i laugh and move on, but… yahoo has an interesting write up on the two ladies and their similar fashion sense, and note that ja copied angie’s look from earlier this month, now i really do believe the j/p fans that, ja is totally jealous of aj, clothes,etc, down to the same purse, and is stalking her, so creepy, get your on style ja and get over the woman brad left you for, you stole your current man from a 14 yr. relationships, move on already ja, lol
  111. Josephina says:
    I saw Money ball today and–
    Brad is gorgeous close-up! He does look like Robert Redford, but better. Brad has an athlete’s body. He has a killer smile. He looks yummy.
    I am not a baseball fan, but I am now motivated to watch and go see a few games. I was cheering him (Brad-Biily Beane)on and there is a definitely a take-away to hang onto in this movie. This is a beautiful true story that needed to be told.
    Brad had to have felt honored to play Billy Beane.
  112. lisa says:
    Moneyball was the best. Loved it
  113. Addie says:
    Here we go again…crtb JUST said she has something against BRAD and what BRAD said– and here comes @cheyenee bringing up Jen Aniston and that @crtb must be a die hard Jen fan, cos Brad can do no wrong, Brad is the greatest and if anyone says anything negative about Brad, they are on the ‘other side’
    Some people really need to get a grip.
  114. Julia says:
    I think some people need some humility and perspective. It doesn’t matter if you don’t go watch that movie because you are angry at him.
    People go watch movies or don’t for various reasons. What strikes me is the lack of humility of a certain fan base who really think their pull in Brad’s financial success is so tremendous that they can blackmail his movies to bomb.
    I mean, get a grip ! The majorty of people who use to watch Brad’s movie will keep on watching his movies. The majority of Brad’s fans are outside the US where they could care less about that so called interview that put some US females and tabloid into a frenzy.
    Unless you do something as a grave as killing someone or raping someon anfd you are convicted, you will still be able to sell your product no matter the rage of some people who really think they can change your planned success into a failure.
  115. kira says:
    And Canuck does exactly the same thing as Cheyenne, but Addie praises her. Got to love the fans. I think both sides of this endless grudge match are out to lunch. 😉 After all, fan stands for fanatical.
  116. Sakyiwaa says:
    @lio.”she starts the interview by complaining about their lack of privacy and living in a “fish bowl”, then follows a very invasive question about what they are doing during their private moments and she answers something about “boring stuff” and “the same as other couple”, which obviously mean “leave us alone”
    ————————————–
    REALLY?
    In what alternate universe does that apply?
    Did u notice how excited Letterman was to say she was married to BRAD PITT? And what she did to her face in acknowledgement?
    With the weird teeth-and-lips sound she made… watch the vid again. She was borderline cringing. This was 2004. Something was definitely up by then…
    Moreover, you do realize that the fact that a person is ‘joking’ or being vague or dismissive about something doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not ‘true’. Some people often ‘joke’ about hard facts to sorta euphemize the truth. But it’s still the truth…
    Therefore, it’s weird that another person would be raked over coals for saying essentially the SAME thing in a more unfazed manner.
    They both know the truth. They both spoke the truth and I believe them.
  117. Sakyiwaa says:
    @Edita; Thanks for the link. Oooh! Knoxie’s hair’s like spun gold! Zee looks so pretty and Shiloh and Viv are so cute! Lovely pics!
  118. Shinigami says:
    I love movies that are done well and are original… I don’t know if this one fits my idea of well made, though.
