Angelina Jolie took Shiloh & Zahara to get their ears pierced, Zahara cried

fp_7936572_big_joliestefani_playdate_12_13

I can’t believe I know this, but do you remember how Angelina Jolie pierced Vivienne’s ears when she was just a baby? Viv has been wearing earrings for a while now. Well, I had never really noticed that neither Shiloh nor Zahara had their ears pierced. That’s according to a British tabloid, although a two-minute search through older photos confirmed that Z and Shiloh never seem to be wearing earrings until this week (as you can see in these photos). Anyway, The Sun claims that Angelina just took her two oldest girls into a London salon to get their ears pierced, and hilarity ensued. Hint: only the Empress was brave enough to go through with it.

Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt are becoming little women. Accompanied by mom Angelina Jolie, the 5 and 6-year-old sisters recently went to a small salon in London to get their ears pierced, according to The Sun.

“The eldest girl picked out some pretty 18-carat gold studs ad gave them to her mom,” a source told the British newspaper.

“The piercing gun was a bit too painful for her and she screamed then burst into tears. She was saying it felt like a stapler, so her little sister changed her mind about having hers done.”

Despite Shiloh’s last-minute decision to opt out of the rite of passage, a source told The Sun that “they all left with big smiles on their faces.”

“Angelina bought them another little gift to make sure they both felt special,” the source added.

The Jolie-Pitts are currently staying in London while patriarch Brad Pitt, 47, films World War Z. Jolie recently took Zahara and Shiloh — along with 3-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — to visit Gwen Stefani’s home for a playdate with Kingston, 5.

“All of the kids are very close in age,” a source tells Us Weekly. “They’ve attended each other’s birthday parties and gotten together several times at each other’s homes.”

[From Us Weekly]

Aw, what are big sisters for? I love that Shiloh had every intention of getting her ears done but when Z went first, Shi chickened out. Oh, and Z “screamed then burst into tears”??? OMG, poor Z! I always forget that she has moments when she’s just a little girl and not our soon-to-be empress.

Sidenote: I let my holes grow over years ago, because I got so tired of wearing earrings. Should I get them re-pierced? I’ve been debating it for a while. Thoughts?

Oh, and this is the best Shiloh photo EVER. I imagine this is the face she made when Z screamed.

    The ear-piercing was a little too girly for Shiloh. When I read the header I was shocked, but she didn’t let me down. Scared? I think not. Her brothers will have to get them pierced if Angie wants Shiloh to get hers pierced.

  2. emma t says:

    that snake toy looks like something it shouldn’t look like!!!

  3. the original bellaluna says:

    Oh BFD. It hurts; kids cry; they change their minds.

    I pierced my own second & third holes in 7th grade and managed to hide it from my parents until they healed. I also pierced my oldest son’s ear when he wanted it done.

  4. Nancy C. says:

    i cried too…it damn hurts!!

  5. Sweepea says:

    Is it really a big deal to have a baby’s ears pierced? I remember that certain Friends episode where Ross made a complete fuss because Rachel had their daughter’s ears pierced.

  6. Me says:

    Why is Shiloh dress with ill-fitting dirty, clothes, that are not her size at all?

    and much more troubling- beside the missing tooth, why is her face so bruised?

    I would check what’s up with her nanny.
    She looks like a neglected/ abused child of a low income family.

    I hope someone cares enough to check what’s up with her and if someone is neglecting to make sure she is safe and doesn’t get beaten.

  7. Kaiser says:

    Me – for the love of God, it’s FACE PAINT.

  8. lin234 says:

    @ me- Chill out. In other pictures it explains she got into the face paint.

    Shiloh’s clothes look alright too me. Perfect for playing around in. Her clothes are probably all from those ultra expensive stores for kids where a simple organic tee costs $100+.

    She is one of the most privileged kids in the world. Save your sympathy for real kids in need.

  9. Cheyenne says:

    I had my ears pierced in the jewelry store and didn’t feel a thing with the piercing gun. A little pressure and that was it. Definitely prefer them to clipbacks, which pinch.

  10. Samigirl says:

    I definitely think it’s harder the older you are to get pierced. If I have a daughter, I’ll pierce them when she’s a little thing. They forget. Same concept with getting your little boy circumcised when he’s a day or 2 old. I freaked out when I got mine pierced at 6. It happens to kids.

    I’m guessing Me doesn’t have children? Her clothes fit her perfectly. Pants may be a little long, but it gives her room to grow. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

  11. Eleonor says:

    My mother tried to convince me to have my ears pierced when I was about 5-6 years old. I had them done, but I screamed and cried. I kept them pierced for not much time. Then when I was 14 one day I came home with something like 4 pierces for ears…

  12. aenflex says:

    I had mine done when I was a baby, and wore them occasionally as young child. Then I stopped, and hadn’t worn them in years and years. My holes are still there, and I’m 32. I wonder if you get them done as a baby if they can’t close? I mean there was a span of 20 years where I didn’t wear any…?

  13. S says:

    @Me – the missing tooth is troubling?? Really?? You know we aren’t all born with adult teeth, right?

  14. Green_Eyes says:

    I think it’s cute… Shiloh backing out reminds me of my horror..my Oma and Tante took me to get mine done my 5th Birthday, I literally ran out of the Jewelers crying and my Tante had to chase me down outside so they could do the other ear. Sure my Oma is shaking her head milling down at the way I scared them..as I now have 3 piercings in one ear and 4 in the other;).

    Cool that Angie didn’t force Shiloh to get it done..she will when she’s ready..

  15. mln76 says:

    I will always be grateful that my mom got my ears pierced when I was a baby so that I didn’t have to remember the pain.
    I love those pics of Shiloh. Me thinks she’s acting like a zombie.

  16. Lithe says:

    @Samigirl, I think you have the right idea. I didn’t have my daughter’s done when she was a baby because she had been through so much medical stuff that I didn’t want to make her have any unnecessary needles. Decided to leave the decision to her.

    She’s now 8 and really wants to have her ears pierced but is “too scared to”. She keeps saying, “Mom, you should have had it done when I was a baby!!!”

  17. mel says:

    That’s a cute story. They will laugh about it when they get older.

  18. MSat says:

    Hee hee! This is exactly what happened with my two girls when they were little. My younger daughter was so desperate to have pierced ears until she saw her older sister have it done- then she wanted nothing to do with it! She’s 11 now and just got them pierced this summer after years of being terrified. LOL.

  19. kimmy says:

    she probably pierced Viv’s ears to be able to tell her and Knox apart with just a glance.

  20. mln76 says:

    @me the missing tooth is troubling? really? She’s obviously a wild kid. Obviously a happy one too. I have the feeling she lost it doing something she shouldn’t have been doing. As for the dirty clothes you know that she was on a play date right. She looks messy. So do Zahara & Viv for that matter because they were running around having fun for a few hours.
    The FFers are really invading this site full force.

  21. DesertRose says:

    Z will always be my favorite, such a beautiful little girl with that expressive face. My sister is four years older than me and I remember her piercing my second holes with an ice cube, needle and hydrogen peroxide. Good times. As far as your ears go Kaiser, if you aren’t missing wearing earrings, I’d just leave it be =)

  22. Lulu says:

    My mother pierced her ears when she was 20 something and I was 3 or 4 and was like: I WANT THAT TOO!!! So she pierced my ears herself. I felt no pain, but I’m a tough example. She bought me little silver earrings with red stones and it was one of the best days in my childhood :p

  23. fancyamazon says:

    My opinion on piercing is that there is no reason to do it to a baby, and should be left until the child/person decides to do it for themselves. I had mine done when I was 16. My daughter did hers on her own as well, and her daughter likely will too.

    Unnecessary pain is unnecessary in my opinion.

  24. gee says:

    This is so cute. I remember crying when I got mine pierced when I was about 3, but not because it hurt, just because it was loud.

  25. Esmom says:

    Very cute. And good decision on Shiloh’s part, I’ll bet even if she did go through with it her earrings wouldn’t have lasted a week with all the roughhousing she seems to like to do with her brothers!

    Kaiser, I let my holes grow over years ago, too, but I still wear earrings once a year when I go to the opera with my aunt. (I need to show off the earrings she gives me.) So it takes some shoving and poking but I manage to get them in…and I can tolerate wearing them for a couple hours max and that’s it.

    Kimmy, “she probably pierced Viv’s ears to be able to tell her and Knox apart with just a glance.”

    Couldn’t she just peek inside their diapers to see who’s who? lol 🙂

  26. Sue says:

    Kaiser@ I say yes

    I too let my holes grow over after having them pierced as a baby, got them re-pierced when I was 21 and I wear little studs everyday so it like they’re not their but the hole is keep open when I want to but on fancy earrings.

    me@ the missing tooth is troubling) Really fact is when little kids get teeth knocked out it takes longer for the adult teeth to grow in, my niece tooth got knocked playing at the age of 3 and it took 5 years before her front tooth grow in at the age 8.

  27. Iggles says:

    I don’t blame her. It does hurt!

    I was in the 2nd grade when I first got mine pierced. I was terrified of the gun. It did feel like a stapler.

    To make matters worse, my ears got infected and eventually they closed up. But by the time I was in high school I really wanted to wear “real” earrings. Finally my senior year I went with friends to Chinatown and got it done in a jewelry shop. Didn’t get infected this time, and I wear earrings everyday 🙂

  28. islandgirl says:

    Me: OMG its face paint

  29. WhiteNoise says:

    LMAO at Shiloh, how funny that she bailed! Awww. Maybe she’ll get a tattoo instead?

  30. Julia says:

    Thank God my mum did it when i was a baby. Between this and the pain you experience with various vaccines, i beleive it’s better to do it when you are a baby.

    My father who is a doctor and other of his colleagues said to me that ears have few blood vessels and when you are a baby, nerves are not totally settled, hence the baby feel the pain in a postponed mode because it needs more time for the nerves to bring that ‘pain’ information to the brains while US, feel it instantly.

    I think the choice is personal but i beleive it’s better to do it as a baby. Babies go through various forms of pain during the first two years wether its vaccines, typical children illnesses, growing teeth, hell even birthing is extremely more painful and traumatic for the baby than for the mother, the first breath is just awful and hurts like hell, ect..

  31. velourazure says:

    i have to admit- angie’s got a really good looking family.

  32. hatsumomo says:

    This discussion was on the Today site yesterday and you wouldn’t believe how many shrews harped how piercing a baby’s ears is child abuse. Get over it.
    My mother had mine done as a baby and I never wore earrings but the holes never closed. When I was around 13 I started gauging my ears in the original holes and when I was 23 or so I decided I was too mature for it so I took it out. By then I was wearing a 2 gauge in my lobes and now my lobes sag. Im gonna eventually get the surgery to ‘lift’ my lobes but for the time being I pierced my ears above the holes to wear regular earrings. When Im with my family and friends and we’re sitting around everyone likes to reach out and pick up my saggy lobes with their index finger. :/

  33. L says:

    Gah. One would think Angie with all her tats would take her kids to a piercing studio instead of a place with a piercing gun.

    It’s so much better for your ear lobes to have them done by a professional piercer with a needle than the gun at the mall/or wherever. 1) Those people aren’t usually trained 2) the gun’s actually rip through your ear and are much more likely to get infected.

    Seriously, once my kids get old enough for earrings it’s off to the pros.

  34. marge says:

    Zahara is going to be a beautiful woman… I’m thinking in the likes of Iman

  35. Praise St. Angie! says:

    omg that pic of Shiloh! hahahahaha! she must be such a hoot to be around. some kids are born hams and she looks to be one of them.

    re: the tooth…I seem to remember a story a while back about her tooth being knocked out during play with her brothers. It’s NO BIG DEAL and happens all the time between kids. my niece knocked out my nephew’s tooth on a (golf) back-swing, because he walked behind her at the worst possible time.

    it wasn’t because their parents don’t watch them, it was because kids play and kids get hurt.

    I’m no “loon” but the faux-concern displayed by some posters is just ridic.

  36. michelle says:

    i got my girls’ ears pierced in the hospital , after i gave them birth , a nurse told me it was best for the baby and after reading this i am so glad i listened to that nurse

  37. ladybert62 says:

    I am not a fan of children with pierced earrings – what is next? Tattoos on them?

    It should be a decision made by an adult as to what piercings can be done to one’s own body.

  38. layla says:

    I also had mine done at a very young…. not baby, but definitely toddler. I’m 37 now and if I leave my ear rings out for a day I have a hard time putting them back in!

    i got second holes as a teenager…. but they have long closed. I’m always amazed that people can still wear ear rings after Wearing nothing for a year!

  39. Dibba says:

    I get tired of all of the how good looking these peeps are. Its so meaningless and shallow. All children are beautiful. AJ’s no more than anyone else’s. All the celebrity worship is nauseating.

  40. Theuth says:

    Do it again, Kaiser! Maybe you won’t use always earrings, but the piercings will still be there. I got mine done when I was 6-7, I don’t remember a lot of pain (they used the “gun”): but three years ago I got my 5th and 6th and one of them got infected, and had to take away all. It wasn’t pleasant. Now I don’t wear them, but I have 4 holes (3 left, 1 right) open.
    Re Vivienne: My opinion is that she got her youngest girl ears pierced so people could distinguish her from her brother. Up until the first year they were identical! And as others have said, the youngest you get them, the more they’ll remain open and be familiar. She can always stop using earring if she want.

  41. Dibba says:

    I always thought getting babies and kids ears pierced was kind of trashy, but more and more people do it all the time. Its becoming more common every day.

  42. sharylmj says:

    beautiful kids overload!!!! wow!! they look like they had fun .. the moms look like they had fun too!!! I love that Z went through with it.. she needs earrings so she can wear all those gorgeous jewels that her mom will give her!! Shilo will just need a dive watch and a knife in her teeth. LOL!!! I really love that Angelina and Brad let the kids be themselves. They all look really happy and healthy.

  43. Cheyenne says:

    I wanted my ears pierced when I was a child but my mom absolutely refused. She said it was archaic and barbaric. So I had to wait until I was in college. She pitched a fit. But when she saw all the gorgeous earrings I was able to wear she went right out and got her own ears pierced.

  44. Eve says:

    Totally agree with Praise St. Angie’s comment # 35.

    P.S.: I think I could call myself an “Angeloony” though.

  45. Lady D says:

    Each and every time I wear earrings, I have to re-pierce my ears. I got them done with a gun (knda fun) at 16, and I have been fighting to put earrings in ever since. I am allergic to cheap metals, they cause a rash so I only have a few pairs I can wear, but I still have to pierce every time. I’m semi grateful I have such healthy skin.

  46. Sakyiwaa says:

    Over here, baby girls have their ears pierced as soon as they are born. It’s a way of telling them apart from boys cos we can have the same length of hair as boys if it’s not braided.

    My Dad had to pierce mine himself in the UK where I was born cos the hospital wouldn’t do it and cos I looked like a baby boy so much.

    Lemme just say: boy, I’m glad he did it then; cos I LOVE dangly earrings so much and I just HATE needles now :)!

    Anyway, Zee’s pierced ears are uber-cool! And I love Shiloh’s shock-face!

  47. Original Tiffany says:

    I got both front teeth knocked out at school. Took a while to grow in. My mom and dad made me wait until I was 10 for my ears. I have three in each now. I usually only wear one or two pairs, but I put an earring in all three every once in a while because the higher up holes close up.
    I let my daughter get hers done at 9. She was a flower girl at my brother’s wedding and she wanted to wear earrings so bad, but man did she have a panic attack right before. That was a trial.

    Open your ears back up, it’s easy to do and with a needle and some ice, it’s easy.

  48. Kara Ann says:

    I had two piercings in my ears as a teenager. But let the 2nd grow up. Then one Christmas hubby got me a pair of diamond studs and some dangling drop earrings. I got the needle and a piece of ice out immediately and repierced the 2nd whole so that I could wear both at the same time. Wasn’t hard to do and didn’t cause me any trouble at all!

  49. WhiteNoise says:

    @ Dibba – “I get tired of all of the how good looking these peeps are. Its so meaningless and shallow. All children are beautiful. AJ’s no more than anyone else’s. All the celebrity worship is nauseating.”

    I don’t think anyone’s said Angie’s kids are more beautiful or special than any other kids out there. And I don’t see any worship on here, just people commenting on very cute pics of very cute kids.

    Odd that something like that would upset you. Oh well, takes all sorts I suppose…

  50. Sequined Pajamas says:

    I had my done at 3 weeks and I love wearing earrings (I feel naked without them). No pain. Since I didn’t have great mobility in my arms I couldn’t play with them and get them infected. My mom is a nurse and took me to my doctor. Thanks Mom!

  51. Hill says:

    I’m from Brazil, and here we pierce ears as a baby. Thank God. I hate needles.

  52. hatsumomo says:

    Ladybert62-“pierced earrings”? I think you mean pierced ears darlin!

  53. BB says:

    L, #33: My thoughts exactly! Piercing guns and those ridiculous studs should be banned. Unnecessary scarring, unnecessary pain, not possible to sterilize properly… It’s not that it’s a huge deal, more like common sense to leave piercing to the pros…

  54. Miss Kitty says:

    My mother was a tomboy growing up and very anti-girly-girl as an adult. She wouldn’t let my sisters and me get our ears pierced until we got our periods!

  55. Cheyenne says:

    @BB: Every time I see someone with infected earlobes from piercing, they say they got it done in the doctor’s office.

    I got mine pierced in the jewelry store and the whole thing was safe, sterile and painless. I followed the clerk’s directions to wipe the studs and the holes gently with antiseptic three times a day and never got an infection.

  56. Happy21 says:

    When I was 7 and my sister was 5 my mum took us to get our ears pierced…I, being the oldest, chickened out! I couldn’t do it. Didn’t do it until the following year. Then went kind of crazy with it. I have 6 holes in one ear and 5 in the other. Don’t know that I will ever take them out. I only change the first ones that are on my lobes. The others just stay in and get cleaned now and again.

  57. Happy21 says:

    Oh yea and I love that pic of Shiloh too. I think that she was imitating one of the zombies she saw on the set of dad’s WWZ film…lol!

  58. taxi says:

    The kids are cute & look happy. Love Shiloh’s expression & Z’s tiny studs.

    The kids are in play clothes, as most people can tell. Shiloh’s clothes are just fine. If you want get all twitched, look at Viv. “Oh, no!! Her clothes are loose!”

  59. foozy says:

    love the way angie dresses viv

  60. LAK says:

    @ Kimmy: she probably pierced Viv’s ears to be able to tell her and Knox apart with just a glance. ========================================
    The different genders wouldn’t have clued her in?

    @marge: Zahara is going to be a beautiful woman… I’m thinking in the likes of Iman
    ========================================

    of course she’s going to look like Iman. Yes, i know Iman is somali and Zahara is Ethiopian, but they are from the same type of ethnicity ie Tigre/Amhara mix. Alot of people from Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea look similar because of this. They are all, men and women, very beautiful

  61. lisa says:

    Regarding Shi’s tooth she is 5. The tooth is out. whatever I recall when Zuma fell off a counter and broke his arm.. nothing said.. can you imagine if on of the JP kids broke an arm.. Angie or Brad would be accused of child abuse.

    there was a story around the time we noticed the tooth. They were seen at a dentist office. Brad/Angie with a couple of the kids. I’m sure the children go to a dentist. Angie has great teeth. that doesn’t just happen.

    All this talk of ear piercing. People do it all the time. I don’t know where some of the negative commenters live, but I see babies and children of all ages getting it done.

    but I guess it is because it’s Angie and Brad.

  62. Heather M (Heather) says:

    Kaiser, buy some little diamond studs and just keep them in all of the time. Then it adds a little something, but you don’t have to worry about earrings (or show off earlobes with an empty hole. I’m totally OCD, admittedly, but that bugged me, so I got the “permanent” diamond studs.).

    My mom tried to pierce her own ears with a needle when she was young and it ended badly. She had those really big holes instead of an innocuous tiny one (probably why I hate the look of pierced ears without earrings!).

  63. whatamess! says:

    @#2 your comment made me laugh so hard..Tank u..The toy does look like another type of toy!

  64. Smithy says:

    @Kaiser — if you DO decide to re-pierce your ears, go to a real piercer that uses actual (clean, natch) needles and NOT a gun. Guns are much more traumatizing to the flesh and much harder to clean… you’ll always know a real piercer is using clean needles because he/she will unwrap them in front of you. I know some people find the idea of needles scarier than the guns, but TRUST me, they are less painful and much easier on the healing process!

  65. Marianne says:

    You really did a story about Zahara screamed when getting her ears pierced? She’s a kid, isn’t that expected?

  66. the original bellaluna says:

    My first piercing was done when I was 4 or 5. Never closed.

    As I said earlier, I did my second and third myself at 12 (pinch the earlobe between 2 ice cubes and use one of Mom’s big sewing needles – sterilised, of course) and they never closed. But when I had another piercing done higher up at a jewelry store, that one closed.

  67. The kids are so darn cute.I can’t wait for my little one.Hurry up March,hurry up!!!

  68. phlyfiremama says:

    The trick to wearing earrings is this: before you put them in, put some triple antibiotic ointment on the posts, and that avoids ALL the irritation. I let mine grow over too because they always got lumpy & irritated, until a friend taught me the Neosporin trick.

  69. truthSF says:

    LOL @HorsePoorHannna, I can’t wait for you to hold ur little one for the first time. Best experiance ever!!!

  70. Ashley says:

    I adore earrings, especially large ‘statement’ pieces.

    If ever have a baby, I’ll get her ear piercing done very early. As a girl I had wanted mine done so badly, but was always so afraid of even the smallest bit of pain. I finally bit the bullet around 13 y/o, but holy heck, I was a terrified mess that whole upcoming week. So much easier to pop ’em in when they’re little and won’t later remember. And if they hate them when they get older, they’ll close up w/ minimal scaring.

  71. Chloe (not chloe) says:

    Shiloh is just too awesome.

    edit: I want to get my ears pierced but I’m scared. That’s what a woos I am.

  72. Nymeria says:

    Zahara looks so much like her birth mother – they could be sisters. Just beautiful. She’s going to be a hell of a looker when she grows up.

  73. truthSF** Thanks,girlfriend!!!

  74. Kim says:

    Reminds me of when I was young & my little sister and i went to go get shots and i passed out so she screamed & refused to get them-haha. Never let one child see another child getting something painful done – they will never want to do it.

    I do like that Angelina waited and gave them the choice. I cant stand when parents pierce babies ears. It should be the childs choice if they want them pierced or not. Why put a baby thru that pain to make her look “good.” crazy!

  75. Bronson says:

    Kaiser – I was a professional body piercer for 6 years, and if you do decide to get your ears re-pierced, go to a reputable piercing studio. Piercing guns cannot be sterilized and can cause unnecessary tissue trauma from their “spring loaded” action. Get them done with a needle and high quality jewelry; they will heal faster, leave less scar tissue, have less chance of hypotrophic scarring AND needles don’t hurt as much.

  76. Emily says:

    I got my ears pierced when I was a kid, and let them grow over, and when I was in my early 20s I got a pair of earrings and was able to get them through the holes with minimal effort. I think if you had them long enough before you let them grow over, they should still be fine. I guess it would depend on how squeamish you would get trying to force the earrings back through. It’s really not that bad though!

    @ Kim, I totally agree with you. My fiance’s ex got her daughters ears pierced when she was months old, and it pissed me off so bad. It should be her own choice! Plus I was paranoid that she was going to yank them out (luckily she only did that a couple of times). My philosophy on that is, if you aren’t old enough to take care of them yourself, then you aren’t old enough to get them.

  77. Cheyenne says:

    In some cultures (Latinos, West Indians) baby girls’ ears are almost always pierced in early infancy. Someone said the same is true of Asians but I never head anything about that. Does anyone know if that is true or not?

  78. trish says:

    @ #6 me:

    I suggest you follow through with your statement. File a complaint/ make a statement with officials. It will surely help you sleep at night knowing you did everything possible to help a child, that you believe, to be in need.

  79. Julia says:

    @ Cheyenne.

    It’s done throughout the whole african continent too. They doo it with a needle when the baby is an infant and let the thick thread hanging out for months so that the hole doesn’t close itself.

    I think it’s becoming common even in Europe to do it when the child is a baby.

  80. N.D. says:

    @Cheyenne It’s true for Middle Asia. Don’t know about other parts.

    Probably because I was born there I don’t get what’s the big deal about it. I mean “they have to have a choice” thing seems like overreacting to me. It’s not such a huge deformity and if done properly it’s not all that traumatic. I’m yet to meet anyone who’s really upset about having their ears pierced as a child even if they’re not into wearing earings all that much now.

  81. Jessica says:

    You know I’m starting to get annoyed that Zahara’s hair is never done pretty. Angelina and Brad make enough money to A. learn how to do a young black girl’s hair or B. hire someone who knows how to do it so that Zahara doesn’t look like a complete mess all the time!!!

  82. Carolyn says:

    hehe Shiloh’s expression is hilarious. The kids are all very cute. I got my daughter’s ears pierced recently. It’s very exciting.

  83. Cheyenne says:

    Oh please no, not the hair police.

    Z has a Congolese nanny. I’m sure she’s well aware of how to care for black hair. How would you “do” a young black girl’s hair? Fried, tied, laid to the side and slathered all over with Dixie Peach?

    Z’s hair is fine. Let it alone. She’s not your child.

  84. LOVE ANGELINA says:

    @Jessica nothing wrong with wearing your hair natural. Lots of black women are opting to let it go natural. Zee’s hair isn’t all wild and tangled, its clearly just curly and shiny and doesn’t need to be braided or anything to look done, she can wear it just like that. I see lots of women doing just that. Keep it combed and moisturized, thats it. No braiding, no ponytail just wearing it natural. Wearing her hair like this is perfectly fine.

    On the whole earring debate, I think its stupid. I got my ears pierced when I was baby. I don’t remember any pain and as a woman I like wearing earrings and please tell me the last time you have seen clip on earrings anywhere?

    If a girl doesn’t want to wear earrings anymore, she doesn’t have too. If you leave earrings out of your ear long enough the hole will close. So people should stfu about it. Its not like the circumcision debate stop trying to make it into one. That little piece of skin won’t grow back, meanwhile I left earrings outta my ear for a whole summer and had to get them re-pierced because the hole closed. Mind you I got mine pierced as a baby so if the hole closes its not that big deal, its not like its permanent.

  85. DD says:

    Kaiser only if you plan on not letting your holes grow over from lack of earring wear again. I’m in the same boat as you, too lazy to put them on so no earrings for me till I get over my laziness.
    OMG oh NO SCANDAL of the year! The Jolie exposed her children to the trauma and abuse of earlobe piercing. Someone call children’s protection now!
    At least she’s not raising a bunch of wimps 😛

  86. Joe's Mom says:

    I have a little bit of advice Kaiser, if you’re worried. My daughter got hers done at 5. Because her friend had them (she thought, but they were stick-ons!). The whole family went down with her, and the girls at the place we had it done got 2 guns and 2 girls, and went 3-2-1. Boom. My daughter’s eyes popped open so wide, I couldn’t help but laugh, but it was OK, I don’t think she cried. I got my second holes done at the same time. She took care of cleaning her own ears every day, and they never got infected. It didn’t traumatize her. It was the noise that was shocking, not pain. Sounds like a nail gun, loud! Anyway, 2 ear guns, 2 girls, that’s the key . . . then you don’t have a child (or grownup) that chickens out and you’re left with only one ear pierced.

  87. DD says:

    @Jessica – why do you think you have an idea of what to do with Z’s hair better than them. Maybe they like it that way. I don’t get people complaining about Zahara’s hair. It suits her and she looks adorable. What do you want them to do with it?

  88. Dina says:

    I’m not american and here we perced as a baby And i’ve always been like WTF is the big deal people?! I remember watching the Full House episode where Stephanie got her ears pierced by Kimmie and thinking that I didn’t get the big deal.

  89. Camille says:

    I love these pics of the JP’s. Such cute kids. Cute story too.

  90. pwal says:

    Got mine pierced at age ten. Didn’t hurt, but the loud sound of the piercing gun spooked me big time.

    And like Shiloh, I chickened out when my sister got hers done. It didn’t hurt her, but she flinched – couldn’t do it.

  91. Maritza says:

    I think Shiloh will become an actress like her parents, the paparazzi doesn’t seem to bother her at all. Shiloh is my favorite!

  92. okeydokey says:

    phlyfiremama: thanks for the sugggestion. I love wearing earrings, but everything seems to annoy my ears.

  93. Cherry Rose says:

    I’ve had my ears pierced since I was four. I remember going “Ouch” and that was it. I was more excited about being able to wear earrings like my mother than being concerned about the pain.

    I haven’t really worn earrings since I was 16, but my holes have never closed up, which I find a bit weird. If I’m in the mood, I’ll put a pair of earrings in.

    I don’t really mind little kids getting their ears pierced. It’s when the girl is 11 and already has her belly button pierced is when I raise my eyebrows.

  94. Megan says:

    Zahara will undoubtedly rule the world.

  95. Jen says:

    Had my daughter’s ear pierced when she was 3months old, her pediatrician did it right after giving her shots. She was going to cry because of the shots anyway so thought I’d hit 2 birds with 1 stone. There is a study anyway that at that age they don’t have memory of pain when they grow up. Hope it’s true if not well too bad. Hahahahah.

  96. alibeebee says:

    i want another set but i can’t do it. I was three days old when i had them done the first time. when i have babies i’ll get the doctor to do them right when they’re born

  97. June says:

    I got mine pierced at 8, and I’m a baby with pain, but I didn’t cry…maybe it was more psychological to her.

  98. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

    Zee screaming would scare any child. Shiloh should have gone first and not cried, then maybe Zee wouldn’t have cried. When she is ready there will be no stopping her. Agree with her tats coming too.

    Viv pierced ears probably helped the other kids tell them apart without always having to check inside their diapers. Not AJ/BP.

    Shi is a clown. I said before that she bears watching. She seems very comical and looks to be taunting the paps. Cute kids in abundance. Good play date too. Kingston welcomed them with open arms, Cute.

  99. Lindsey G. says:

    My mother had my ears pierced when I was young…too young to even remember. I’m glad I was too young to remember though. Let’s assume I cried. Haha.

  100. apsutter says:

    My mom had my ears pierced for my 1st birthday. I think getting them done when they are babies is the best idea because they wont remember the pain and they stay open FOREVER! Seriously, I can go years without having earrings in and then when I feel like wearing some I’ll just pop them in. If I ever have a daughter I’m doing it when she’s a baby.

  101. Bodhi says:

    I got mine done with a gun when I was in elementary school, but they got infected & I had to let them close over. I’m allergic to the crappy metal they use at Claire’s etc. I go them done again by a dermatologist when I was 13ish & they have never closed over. I had my second holes done a a piercing shop & they have been just fine. I wouldn’t ever have my hypothetical daughter’s ears pierced as a baby, much like we didn’t have our son circumcised (I am SO not getting into THAT argument right now), but if I had to, or if my hypothetical daughter wanted them done at a young age, I would take her to a professional piercer. Some people can tolerate the gun, but I couldn’t & I think that needles are better

  102. princess says:

    @kaiser I thought mine had grown over. All I did was flip up and with an earring stuck it thru the back. Then I took it out and wore it the correct way. I’ve had no problems.

  103. Ja says:

    Thanks for being sane, people. The comments I saw yesterday elsewhere made my parents into child abusers for having my ears done when I was a baby. Ridiculous.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    People like to pretend that they’re brand new and that little girls have never, in the course of human history, had their ears pierced.
  105. Maria' Morris says:
    For God sake. In Brazil, girls done with a gun with no pain, no infection at all. Also babies (that’s was my case). It’s done in chemistry. Girls love it. What the problem?
  106. Carly says:
    Earrings are for adult women and teens, like makeup. Earrings are not for babies, no more than makeup is. I know 8 year olds are now wearing push-up bras and children are wearing provacative clothes and lipstick (pageants) and becoming adults before they enter junior high. Its terrible. Why a baby or child even needs earrings, is beyond me. Next, a 6 year old will go to school wearing stillettos.
  107. lisa says:
    @carly
    grow up. This is such a silly debate and it is only one because this is Angelina. If this was any other celebrity mother nothing would be said Any time there is something Angie does or her kids all the righteous saints rush to the thread to preach how wrong this or that is. Some of you act as if Zahara or Viv are the first children in the world to have their ears pierced.
    And Carly you have gone from a child pierced ears to bras and stillettos. what a leap. Seriously some of you need to let you over the top hate for his ONE woman go. It has clouded your judgement and made you and other look a bit out of your minds
    I was at a party Saturday with friends and their children. There were 13 girls there. Ages 6 months to 7 years. Everyone of them had pierced ears. All races.
    I don’t know where the rest of you live, but in the real world this is not an issue.
  108. lisa says:
    hmm…
    Salon in St Margarets denies tabloid’s Angelina Jolie story
    A beauticians in St Margarets has denied information printed in the The Sun about Angelina Jolie and her children visiting the beauty salon.
    The tabloid reported earlier this week that Jolie’s eldest daughter had her ears pierced at Sirisha’s Health and Beauty.
    However an employee at the store, who did not want to be named, said staff would never give out information about a customer’s treatment and all their rooms are private, so no one could have overheard anything.
    The employee said: “We have a strict confidentiality policy for all our customers – it doesn’t matter if they are famous or not. If I had work done, say on my face, I wouldn’t want everybody outside to know about it.”
    The salon could confirm that Jolie and her children visited Sirisha’s on Saturday, September 17.
    The beautician added: “Everything that was printed in the article was completely untrue.”
    The famous family are staying in Richmond while Brad Pitt films new zombie horror film, World War Z.
    I rarely post, not a regularbut allow me to express my opinion:
    IMHO here (and in some JA threads) is given too much importance (and replies) to a very few (one?) unreasonable person, who is always happy to write bad things about the JPs, particularly about Brad.
    I think it is hard not to argue and reply to some of the incredible (and often vile) stuff posted related to the JPs and enabling or justifying JA.
    Just wanted to say that, I respect you all and usually the debate is nice. Good for putting the ffer back in place, sad thing that s/he just doesn’t get it.
    cheers to all.
