Angelina Jolie’s 60 Minutes interview: “I find the tabloids quite shallow”

Did you guys watch Angelina’s 60 Minutes interview last night? We previewed it last week, when 60 Minutes released what turns out to be the most idiotic clips from the interview. They pushed back 60 Minutes for a football game, but I did see it, and OMG it was the worst. Not Angelina – she was fine. She was candid, lucid, forth-right and interesting. The worst was the dude interviewing her, Bob Simon, who wasn’t capable of even a passing interest in researching his subject, and who seemed to think it was 2003. How many more questions is Angelina going to get about what she was like in 1998? Whenever Angelina opened up and said something newsworthy, it happened accidentally because Bob Simon wasn’t paying a bit of attention. He almost laughed at her when she got choked up talking about her mother. He actually made me miss certified-Brangeloonie Ann Curry and her sycophantic interview style. The worst part was when Bob Simon referenced Jolie’s work with the UNHCR “over the past few years,” basically denigrating and glossing over her work in lieu of asking her more questions about her drug usage 12 years ago – like she hasn’t been a UN ambassador for a decade, like she hasn’t been awarded for her work. Anyway, here’s the full video interview and some excerpts:

On her childhood dreams of being a funeral director: “It sounds like this very strange, eccentric, dark thing to do but in fact I lost my grandfather and was very upset with his funeral,” she said during an interview on 60 Minutes Sunday night. “How somebody passes and how family deals with this passing and what death is should be addressed in a different way. If this whole acting thing didn’t work out that was going to be my path.”

Always in Tabloids: Simon asked Jolie what people who only know her from tabloid covers are missing. “Me,” she said. “I don’t see those things. I don’t know who they are but I assume they’re not me. They’re not who I am. They’re not what I spend my day caring about. I find them quite shallow and often quite wrong.”

Working Mom: “We never work at the same time,” Jolie said of how she and Brad Pitt raise their six children. She also said she prefers “when I’m home with the kids” and that shooting movies full time “would be easier.”

Looking Up to Mom: “My mother was a full-time mother. She didn’t have much of her own career, her own life, her own experiences … everything was for her children,” Jolie said of her mom, Marcheline Bertrand, as she choked up. “I will never be as good a mother as she was. She was just grace incarnate. She was the most generous, loving – she’s better than me.”

Becoming a Director: “I still think it’s crazy … I think I’d be terrible with a comedy,” she says of tackling the tough topics in her film, a love story set during the Bosnian War in 1992. “Everything was something to be careful about and sensitive. I am nervous that people are not going to understand it,” she said, though she’s not worried about being involved with a film that has someone else as the star. “I prefer directing. I love having the spotlight on someone else … It’s nice for all of that not to matter.”

What’s also interesting is that 60 Minutes didn’t even air the two most interesting parts of the interview, leaving these as “web exclusives”. In the first clip, Angelina talks in more detail than ever before about her sketchy relationship with her sketchy father, and gives the specific timeline for their tenuous reconciliation:

And in this clip, Angelina talks more about how she doesn’t think she’ll have a career in 10-20 years. What’s interesting is that she talks about her mother dying young, and you get the feeling that Angelina thinks she’ll be going early too:

The web exclusives were better than the 14 minute interview that aired

    • Justwow says:

      #1.
Seriously!! I don’t think I have ever seen her so candid as she was about her Dad. Weird that they wouldn’t have included that in the television portion…

  2. Brandi says:

She’s so classy. Leann ought to take a page out of Angies book.

  3. Skyler says:

Why does she open about her life when she has some project to promote. Brad did the same thing not so long ago talking about Aniston. Selling you private life to sell some movie is pathetic.

    • Nicola says:

The only time they do interviews is when they have something to promote. That goes for all celebs. And you have to give something new each time, so that’s why it seems like they’re giving a big reveal with every film. It’s not some conspiracy. When was the last time you saw Angelina in a sit down televised interview like this, that wasn’t a press junket?

    • Emma says:

Since you brought up Jen Aniston … how about her numerous interviews in any magazine or on any Talk show that will have her, naked magazine covers, appearing in outfits either plunged down to her navel or up to her ass in 5-inch ‘do me’ heels, “Five Years After Brad” magazine exclusives, strategic strolls in NYC and Los Angeles (walking her dog on a residential side street yet) for photo Ops whenever she’s promoting a film, her ‘victim-hood,’ or a new man?

I think the only reason they pushed “Wanderlust” back to a February release is so that Jen could promote the film during Angie’s promotion tour for “In the Land of Blood and Honey” and during Brad’s “Moneyball” Oscar bid promotion tour, in order to ‘draft’ off of them and stay in the press. If “Wanderlust” had opened on October 7, 2011 as originally scheduled, all Jen would have had to keep her in the news is her relationship with Justin, which is (and was) getting old.

And speaking of photo Ops, I can see an employee at the Arclight Cinemas calling X17 with a tip about Brad and the kids being there to see “Hugo,” but how in the world did the Paps know exactly when Jen and Justin would be pulling into the parking garage (which is where those ‘arriving to see “Hugo”‘ pictures of Jen and Justin were taken) so they could give their ‘just strolling through the parking garage on the way to see “Hugo”‘ photo Op?

And for goodness sake, Brad Pitt was talking about himself in his “Parade” interview, his emotional and mental state of mind before and during his marriage, ‘not’ Jen. If anything, he seemed to be taking the blame for the marriage not working (which is FAR too generous of him), and you delusional Jen-Hens totally over-reacted.

Brad is entitled to say how he felt and what his state of mind was in his marriage. Jen doesn’t ‘own’ the marriage, and she wasn’t the only one there.

      • LisaM says:

You sir are a loon of the highest order.

      • Cheyenne says:

@LisaM: Beats a Jenhens of the lowest order any day in the week.

      • laura hd says:

gawd Emma, maybe you should get out more often….you know, get a life. Now, are you living exclusively in Angelina’s colon or do you spend some time up Brad’s arse as well?

No one said anything about Aniston, you seem to border on obsession on that point. What makes you think you know so much about any of these people, anyway? Are you a nutter or an undercover sad, looney PR person?

Either way, get off the message boards and go live your own f-ing life you pitiful little mess…

    • Skyler says:

      @Emma

I don’t feel like reading your novel size comment. It’s not about Aniston this time so there is no reason to get angry. Why are you draging Aniston here? It’s about Jolie and Pitt who somehow always find the way to say something “outrageous” – not on purpose of course (eyes rollin). And then they are acting like – why? what? what’s going on? blah blah blah. Sorry but there is no other – maybe next to Tom Cruise – celeb who is so obsessed with her image in media. She is a master of media manipulation. She is doing it from very beginning until today. You are blind or naive if you don’t see that.

      • Rhona01 says:

        @Skyler

Go away troll. Especially if you can’t be bothered to read the thoughfull responses to your trolling.

      • Skyler says:

        @Rhona01

I know truth hurts. But you have to remember only truth can set you free. BTW I may not agree with you but I don’t call you troll. So be polite it doesn’t hurt.

      • pamela says:

Your coments are laughable. And since YOU are the one who brought up Aniston, is there anyone else in HW more manipulative of her PR that that fraud? She and her freaking bulldog of a PR will put out denials about her baby food diet. Angie has as much right as anyone else to control her image. And Brad has as much right to talk about HIS marriage as his ex did over and over and over again. But I suppose the comment didn’t fit the “Brad misses Jen”, and the “Brad is going back to Jen” narratives that the rags were pushing and the fans were eating up all these years. Jen knew very well Brad wouldn’t talk….she said as much just after they seperated, and she used that knowledge to TRY to turn everyone against him, and to destroy him in HW. Sadly for her it didn’t work.

I have always said that she is lucky Brad was not like Charlie Sheen, because she would be still be curled up n a fetal position.

      • Heine says:

May I request that you all post your Aniston rants on Aniston threads? Can we just stop this line of commenting now and pick it up on the inevitable Aniston story?

    • Justin says:

Well she always can sell more and do pictorial for Playboy. She is not that old yet.

  4. Flan says:

Her past has been talked about when it actually happened and for years after that.

I would be far more interested in hearing what she’s planned for her UN work.

  5. Addie says:

Glad she said it herself for all to hear…

“They’re not what I spend my day caring about. I find them quite shallow and often quite wrong.”

So can this triangle and team so-and-so BS end now. It really isn’t a contest for ‘most popular’

Funny how some of her die hard fans are so intolerent, when Angie is the least hateful/least intolerent person in the public eye today.

Also, she will never have a love like the love she had for her mother.
    I get that.

    • tapioca says:

“[The tabloids are] not what I spend my day caring about.”

Bwuahahahaha!!! Anyone who believes that might be interested in this bridge I’m selling…

      • Jayna says:

Actually she doesn’t. She didn’t have a publicity agent. Never hid her wild past. She gets offered more roles than she can accept. Why would she care about tabloids that make up a new headline every week about them. She lives her life.

      • islandgirl says:

You better keep that bridge for yourself cause you might just need it…..just saying

      • tapioca says:

        @Jayna:

Erm… she made up her “wild past” as a hook for interviewers when she started out in Hollywood. That’s why there’s no evidence of it, except a grainy video in which other people are doing drugs, and a couple of arty B&W shots with tape over her nipples!

And if she didn’t care about her image, why does she talk about her private life every time she has a film out? You don’t see Gary Oldman or Meryl Streep doing that!

      • Emma says:

@Tapioca, who asked: “And if she didn’t care about her image, why does she talk about her private life every time she has a film out? You don’t see Gary Oldman or Meryl Streep doing that!”

Yes, Tapioca, you ‘do’ see Gary Oldman and Meryl Streep talking about their private life while promoting their films (let’s not forget Meryl’s extensive promotional tour for “Mamma Mia!”). There is a Gary Oldman interview in the October 2011 issue of “Esquire” magazine promoting his film “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” in which he reveals private information (sorry, I couldn’t find a direct link to the interview in “Esquire,” and the best except–believe it or not–was in the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2032483/Gary-Oldman-anti-Hollywood-star-I-dont-publicist-EastEnders-actress-sister-gets-recognised-me.html).

Every single actor and actress gives those kind of interviews during promotional tours. Heck, we just learned from one of his promotional tour interviews for “The Descendents,” that George Clooney seriously considered suicide following a back injury he suffered years ago.

Can you name one actor or actress who isn’t asked about their private life during a promotional tour in interviews? Come on, just one.

      • tapioca says:

@Emma: Did you read the article you linked? He mentions that his sister – legendary British soap actress Laila Morse – gets recognised more than he does. That’s it! The guy married Uma frickin’ Thurman and gave ONE quote about it in 20 years, and you definitely won’t see him pimping his kids out to W magazine.

Oh, and Gary Oldman genuinely does have a “wild past” which he didn’t make up, but he doesn’t mention that either.

    • Lithe says:

@Jayna, I can see why she didn’t have a publicist. She’s very savvy when it comes to managing her image. She may not read the tabloids, but she does care about how she comes across to her audience. YMMV, but this was very apparent to me when she was talking about her early aspirations of being a mortician.

  6. oh same old says:

If she finds tabs shallow, why does she court them? Shallow and pathetic woman.

    • Kobi says:

All celebs are like this. Its Hollywood PR 101.
It would be refreshing if a celeb said ‘no sorry’ I am here to talk about my lastest film, not my personal life.

      • Nicola says:

No celeb only talks about the project. Even George Clooney who doesn’t talk about his personal life, ALWAYS has some funny, memorable oft-repeated tale of something he did with his friends that continues the myth that he’s one of the good ole boys. It’s called publicity. It is was it is, if you didn’t buy into it, you’d wouldn’t be on this website.

    • islandgirl says:

You hate her but you still find the time to watch the interview. So tell me again who is shallow and pathetic

    • Kobi says:

      @Nicola
Thats what I am saying. All celebs know that the public is not interested in hearing just about their lastest project. They know the public interest lies in their personal lives and experiences.
I didnt say that I wasnt interested I just said it would be refreshing to hear a celeb say, sorry my personal life is just that, and stick it to us gossip readers.

    • Carrie says:

Angelina has never courted the tabloids. What are you going on about?

  7. Jackie says:

this ‘old man river’ interviewer left out the best parts!

i like her, but overall i found it rather meh. the part about her kids needing her more when they are older was strange. don’t they need her the most now?

anyway, movie looks simplistic and the love story is too ‘Pocahontas’ for me.

    • Esmom says:

Little kids do need their parents but I get what she means about them maybe needing her more when they’re older.

As my kids started getting older and needing me less for hands-on help and attention with basic needs, I realized how important it was for me to be there for the big stuff that growing up entails — peer pressure, making good choices.

It’s hard work every day…I worry so much that they may veer down the wrong path so I imagine she might have the same fear given her own past and their current life in a fishbowl.

      • Azurea says:

I agree, and for most kids these days, they need their parents a lot even in their early 20’s. It’s a different kind of need than small ones, obviously, but it can be far more stressful.

  8. Jacq says:

What a shame. I live in a close-knit, nepotistic community. Everyone who doesn’t leave is forever who they were in high school, regardless of how you are able to conduct yourself as an adult. Hollywood is much the same, people’s social skills are just as retarded, underdeveloped as they are here at home. I wish that someone would talk to her more about her successes and less about the well-worn drivel.
@Kaiser: Do you think the dying young is from the hepatitis blind-item?

    • Mairead says:

I wouldn’t have assumed that if AJ did feel that way it would be because of a life-threatening illness. Many people who lose their parents, especially when the parent was comparatively young, feel that they themselves will pass away at that age.

    • tmbg says:

I think it’s because her mom died of ovarian cancer and that’s a really, really bad thing to have in your family health history. If I were her, I’d seriously look into getting the ovaries out once she’s done having children. It’s one of those cancers that is incredibly hard to treat. I had a friend pass away from it last year and she struggled for years with it. 🙁

  9. Original Bee says:

I agree about Bob Simon’s demeanor towards Angelina Kaiser. He seemed so irritated with her at points. Like, when he contradicted her by saying she DID know what was said in the tabloids about her, when she denied knowing. Angelina seemed forthright and kind like she always does in interviews. So I don’t know what bug was up Bobby’s butt. I don’t watch 60 minutes normally, so I’m unaware if he’s the kind of reporter who thinks interviewing an actor is be beneath him or something. But, he sure seemed like it was.

    • Kobi says:

There was nothing up his butt.
He just didnt fawn all over her, thats all.

    • Emma says:

Oh, he wasn’t subtle about it at all. In his prologue for the interview, he said “Sometimes we draw the ‘short straw’ in getting certain interviews.” Drawing the ‘short straw’ can be a good thing or a bad thing, but in his case I somehow think he was indicating that he got the lame interview of the week.

      • Katherine says:

Simon talking about drawing the short straw was an obvious joke.

Find me a journalist who wouldn’t have traded places with him in a second.

      • janie says:

clearly an ironic comment since the majority of 60 minutes stories are about something far more harrowing than interviewing a beautiful actress.

  10. I.want.shoes says:

I love her. It was really touching when she spoke about her mom and her kids. I could totally relate.

I agree, the interviewer should have retired 2 decades ago. I find it sad that with all that this woman is doing in her life NOW, he chose to focus on the past.

    • Cheyenne says:

Maybe he thought his audience was all tabloid readers and that was all they wanted to hear about.

  11. Deltona lakes says:

Kaiser I agree with you. I thought i was watching a watered down interview that barabara Walters conducted 7 -8 years ago. At least she talk about her role with the UNCR in depth.

  12. Boo says:

I didn’t see any of the interview–but I read the transcript. Or tried to…she has become so dull. Maybe the interviewer was going back to a time when she was interesting as a way to keep the audience engaged? While her charity work and motherhood are both wonderful and valuable, they are NOT entertaining (and probably shouldn’t be). The fact that she is on TV is because of her persona as an edgy, sexy actress–but that image is faltering as she wastes into a skeletal, holier-than-thou caricature of someone we thought she would never become.

    • Derpy says:

Who’s “we?” As a long time fan of hers, I had always hoped she would grow and mature and find happiness. It seems she has. What’d you expect her to be? The next Courtney Love? *shudder*

  13. NM9005 says:

She comes across as a calm and collected person. She looks good. Her facial expressions are priceless. I need to watch the longer video later. Funny how the interviewer himself says that “she likes to be in control”. Telling.

It’s interesting that she wants to be more like her mother who basically put her children’s lives before hers but JP themselves still do what they think is best for their careers, trotting the children all over the globe. Maybe she will quit acting in 10, 20 years but they are not going to make sacrifices for the children now since they both deny quitting acting soon whenever they themselves hint about quitting. It’s confusing.

Of course she has to talk about her life. The film can’t be pushed by the actors because nobody knows them. She’s the one who has to give it her all to promote this film and that goes best by talking about her past and struggles. These topics sell. There’s a lot at stake here, either the film is bad but it will be a BO-hit or either the film is critically good but nobody watches it or in the best case it’s both a commercial and critical success. Whatever the case is, there’s a lot at stake for Jolie because everything falls on her shoulders. Even if the actors are crap, nobody cares about them really, she has to take the heat.

“I think I’d be terrible with a comedy,”

True, she can’t do comedy herself, she doesn’t have the knack and comedical timing for it. It’s equally difficult than say a drama or thriller. It just requires a different approach. She fares better in action and drama.

Can’t wait to see the full video…

    • Emma says:

If you didn’t ‘watch’ the interview, how can you pass judgement on what may or may not have been said? I ‘did’ watch the interview and I don’t recall the interviewer commenting on Angie’s ‘control’ issues at all. At what point/time-stamp did he say so?

And what is your damage with Angelina Jolie? What business is it of yours when the Jolie-Pitts decide to stop working? They have both said on numerous occasions (Angie said it again in this interview) that they don’t both work at the same time so that one of them is always with the kids.

And she never said that she wanted to be just like her mother. She said that she will ‘never’ be as good a Mom as her mother. Marcheline Bertrand didn’t work after her kids were born. Her kids were her career. But Angie–like millions of women around the world–chooses to have a family and a career, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It seems to me that the better Angie does, the angrier her detractors become … and it shows in their rhetoric.

      • DG says:

Hi there. The interviewer talks about how Angie “likes to be in control” in the second video (the one about her dad) at the 0.09 mark. You’re welcome.

      • NM9005 says:

In the two bottom small interviews (the ones I saw) the first one within 10 bloody seconds! Damn… Do you just gaze at Jolie and black out or something?
Next thing you know, you want to know at what exact time she inhaled or when she closed her eyes or when she had a bowel movement. Loonies and their damn “verify everything you say crap”. Bunch of children.

The only one who’s angry is you judging by all the replies to posts that doesn’t voice your 100% love of Jolie.
And what’s it to me? Oh I don’t know, she gives interiews for the world to see and hear and you are trying to put me in my place?! Why? I have a right to say what I want. Nothing in that post is negative. I just question and criticize unlike some people who clearly have issues and can’t control their emotions. It’s just a celeb, give it a rest…

Keep those fingers busy by typing replies Emma…

    • pamela says:

Aren’t they making sacrifices now with them NEVER working at the same time? They could be making double the money they do now if they both filmed movies at the same time. But I suppose you would like them both to stop working altogether so that you can say they can’t get jobs.

And please give it a rest with the “they both talk about retiring and then change their minds” spiel. Almost everyone if you ask them will say when they hope/plan to retire. Angie has been working less with longer breaks between projects. Brad when asked about when he would stop said “three years” which would put him at 51 years old. But the brain dead in the media started trumpeting that he would retire at 50, (show how well they can count). If he hadn’t clarified his statement can you imagine what the headlines would have been when he turned 50….which is in 2 years btw….and he didn’t announce hiw “retirement”? The man is not a politician for God’s sake whose words and actions actually affect our lives. So if in 3 years he doesn’t quit so what?

      • Cheyenne says:

Jeez, are people so dumb they keep harping on “she’s a liar because she keeps saying she’s going to retire and then she doesn’t, yadda yadda”? My mom talked about retiring a dozen times before she actually did. Did that make her a liar too?

Retirement is an enormous decision. Even if you’re financially set for life, you have to decide what you’re going to do with the rest of your life. Many people who have looked forward to retirement feel at a total loss once they are actually no longer working.

  14. islandgirl says:

Ahhhh that haters are here. How sweet lol

  15. Josephina says:

What I get is that her mother is/was her compass and remains as her inspiration. Angelina really, really loved her mother and is struggling with a sense of loss…still.

For anyone that has ever lost a parent that you were very close to and wanted to emulate, like Angelina, you can understand what she has gone through and her continuing transition. She wants to spend more time with her kids as her mother did for her and her brother.

I don’t even want to imagine how this would have gone down if Brad had not stepped into her life at the time that he did.

Like the rest of us, Angie has a vulnerable, sensitive side. I have always seen the Brad/Angie relationship from what she could for him and not as much as what he could do for her. Love is beautiful and Brad/Angie really have created a beautiful family, intentionally, out of love.

The last clip should have aired on TV. Angie is a multi-talented woman, and it rings clear what she feels is most important: her family and being involved in their lives.

    • Emma says:

Brad said that being in the hospital room with Angie and her brother James and witnessing their emotional pain when their mother passed was one of the hardest things he’s ever witnessed in his life. I’m sure they both appreciated his presence.

      • Cheyenne says:

Angie said in an interview that if Brad hadn’t been there she would have fallen apart. He made all the arrangements around her mother’s funeral and cremation when she was unable to deal with it. She also said Billy Bob Thornton was very supportive and gave her good advice. He told her, you will never be able to get over it, but keep remembering your mother as someone who was one of the most important people in your life.

      • Josephina says:

        Emma,

Oh…thanks for the info. I like Brad even more than before.

  16. olivia says:

She says she thinks she would be terrible at comedy, what about that GG for the comedy The Tourist 🙂

Did you catch the part where she said: “it’s easy to walk away from a divorce but much harder to walk away from a family?” In other words, the basterd’s stuck with me 🙂

    • Cheyenne says:

Please don’t tell us you are simple enough to believe children keep parents together. He’s “stuck” because he wants to be stuck. He likes where he is, however much the idea revolts you.

      • blonde on the dock says:

Actually it happens all of the time. When the kids grow older and become more independant couples split up. I’m not saying this is the case with Brad and Angie but it does happen. I’ve seen it over and over again.

      • Cheyenne says:

@blondie: we’ve all seen it. But mostly divorces and separations happens early in the marriage while the children are quite young. A couple that is staying together for the sake of the children have no marriage to speak of except what exists on paper.

      • Annie says:

They happen an awful lot once men hit their 40’s too. It seems to hit women mid to late 30’s. They don’t call it mid-life crisis for nothing.

    • yep says:

She has walked away from 2 marriages but like Ted casablanca has been saying this whole time… Angie is with your queen brad for her kids cause she doesn’t want to be like her dad. nice trying to spin Angie’s words as if she wasn’t talking about herself… SHE IS TRAPPED with your queen. lol

    • Freya says:

      Don’t be ridiculous!
Pitt knows where the door is, but he is where he is because he wants to be there.

  17. sarah says:

she’s doing it to vanish all the gossips, not to sell the movie

  18. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

If I had a dime for every time I heard “that’s what I always wanted to do,” every time I tell someone I’m a funeral director. It doesn’t make you sound edgy, it makes you sound like you’re trying too hard (especially to those of us who actually do it). Huge pet peeve. End rant.

    • Bite me says:

This is not something new… In fac she even took some course on the topic when she was a teenager

Some course on the topic? A couple years of schooling are required before you can take any funeral related courses.

Also, this is what her Wikipedia page says “At the age of 14, Jolie dropped out of her acting classes and aspired to become a funeral director.[16] She began working as a fashion model, modeling mainly in Los Angeles, New York, and London. During this period, she wore black clothing, experimented with knife play, and went out moshing with her live-in boyfriend.”

^sounds exactly like something a goth 14 year old might say so people think she’s “edgy.”

      • mln76 says:

Well MDIB she talks about it in terms of a real experience she had. The fact that she felt her grandfather’s funeral wasn’t handled well by the morticians. I was actually happy that she did that instead of saying it was part of some dark fascination with death.

      • Katherine says:

She’s discussed her grandfather’s funeral before and how it was painfully done. She said before that particular experience was her motivation for seeking more info on how to be a more compassionate funeral director. I wonder if she loved Six Feet Under?

    • islandgirl says:

Was that a rant? I thought it was crazy talk from some one who need to be more informed

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

You are the personification of the word loonie, frantically posting responses to anyone who says anything remotely critical if your idol. You don’t even make sense. Informed about what exactly? Every inane aspect of this woman’s life? Blanket statement much?

      • ambergesa says:

I was attempting to post from my phone, it cut my comment. I wanted to add that while I never self identified as a Goth(actually found them extreme and silly) due I’m sure to the stress of these events and my subconscious minds attempts to work through these experiences, I went through what could be described as a dark time. I was obsessed with Sylvia Plath poetry, dyed my hair burgundy and was quite frankly sad for a while. Your sweeping statements discrediting everyones experiences as attention seeking, inauthentic or somehow(?) insulting to Funeral Directors is offensive and ridiculous. Who do you think you are to judge, condemn, dismiss and ridicule the experiences of others? You don’t seem very sensitive or compassionate which is unfortunate considering your choice of profession.

    • Franny says:

I don’t really understand your argument, since people say that about all kinds of jobs. Its not different than saying “I always wanted to be a doctor/divorce lawyer/firefighter”.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

My point is that if you are of a certain subculture (usually goth), you always wanted to be a funeral director because it makes you appear weird/edgy to others, while solidifiying your position within your particular subculture. In other words, it’s for shock value (not a true desire to enter the profession and be of service to those in need). When someone brags about how they love blood, like to play with knives etc., then says they want to be a funeral director, I doubt very much their sincerity. People that “always wanted to be doctors or lawyers” usually aren’t saying it for shock value, because there is nothing shocking about being a doctor or lawyer.

      • Ambergesa says:

Or it could be due to losing someone very important to you at a impressionable age and being profoundly influenced either by the sensitivity or callousness of the funeral staff as I was when I lost my Mother and Grandfather at 17. Then in succession would lose my Grandmother Aunt and Sister in the following years. I’ve said many times I’d love to be/felt a calling as a mortician. I’m NOT a goth, never have been.

    • Emma says:

“^sounds exactly like something a goth 14 year old might say so people think she’s “edgy.”

Did you miss the part where she explained how she first got the idea to become a Funeral Director after her grandfather died, because she was so upset about his funeral (or it seemed, like how his funeral was conducted)? Sometimes it’s helpful to look at what comes ‘before’ and ‘after’ the soundbite in order to truly understand the soundbite.

And what’s with all the snide ridicule? Her talk about becoming a Funeral Director wasn’t just a whim, it was based upon her personal experience.

This is just a suggestion, but perhaps you should actually watch the interview?

      • ambergesa says:

I was obsessed with Sylvia Plath poetry, both reading and writing my own sad attempts, dyed my hair burgundy and was quite frankly sad for a while. “Did you miss the part where she explained how she first got the idea to become a Funeral Director after her grandfather died.”

That’s the PC answer most people give. I don’t expect her to say she said it at 14 for the shock value/attention (which is what I expect it was REALLY about). I mean, come on, how many 14 year olds are mature/insightful enough to contemplate such a somber career? Particularly when said 14 year old is seeking attention by playing with knives, and claiming to have a fixation with blood. Even mid- twenties Angie was wearing vials of blood/dressing goth, and jumping into fountains post award win. That’s all attention seeking behavior, which is normal for a teen or early-twenty something. I just don’t like when my profession is being used to fulfill some story of edginess quota or to garner attention. That’s called getting into the business for the wrong reasons.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@min76, “I was actually happy that she did that instead of saying it was part of some dark fascination with death.”

I agree. I don’t think the latter would be well received. Also, I appreciate your not jumping down my throat (as I know you’re one of the biggest Angelina fans). As you know, I’ve made quite a few positive comments about her. I just happened to find that particular blurb irritating. Doesn’t take away from the other positive feelings I have for her.

@Amber, ” Who do you think you are to judge, condemn, dismiss and ridicule the experiences of others? You don’t seem very sensitive or compassionate which is unfortunate considering your choice of profession”

Maybe you should ask yourself the same question, as you’ appear to be judging me. Furthermore, you just proved my theory. As burgundy hair, dark poety and a morose demeanor are characteristic of the gothic subculture. Maybe you’re personally offended by my statement because it holds some truth for you.

      • ambergesa says:

You couldn’t have proved every word I said about your judgmental attitude or insensitivity or poorly chosen career path if you had outright agreed with my assessment in full. It couldn’t have been my MANY experiences with funerals at a impressionable age both well and poorly handled that influenced my desire to be involved in that line of work could it? As I stated I never identified as Goth I found it pretentious and silly. I was working through the many losses of family members beginning with my Mom at 17 that unbelievably made me sad… SAD not Gothic no white powder no black clothing or make up. No your right it must’ve been my melodramatic attention seeking ways to impress my imaginary goth friends(oddly enough my real friends were all bubbly cheerleaders and student body officers who were sadly untouched by Sylvia Plath). I feel empathy for anyone unfortunate to deal with you in a time of loss(or anytime really). I’m sure you’re all fake sympathy and forcing unnecessary expen$ive “upgrades” on the bereaved. Gross

    • the original bellaluna says:

      Mort, I love ya!

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Thanks Bella! Love you too. Now excuse me while I go “force expensive upgrades on the bereaved” LOL

  19. Talie says:

Rosie O’Donnell always talks about that common fear people have of outliving the age their parents died at if they went young.

    • Emma says:

True that. Michael C. Hall’s father died of cancer at the age of 39. Michael said he never thought he’d live past that age. Beating his own cancer at that same age was a victory on many levels for him.

  20. Nibbi says:

I like that you can actually see her face moving, expressing, emoting… my god, are those wrinkles on her forehead? can she actually raise her eyebrows?

probably the most beautiful woman in the world, and no botox… who’da thunk 😉

  21. dorothy says:

She is really starting to show her age.

  22. Bermuda Blues says:

I think she is fascinating. I love the clip of her talking about her father. The way her face moves and expresses such subtle emotions. That wound is still there, and its still raw, she’s just bandaged it up for the benefit of everyone else. Very sad.

  23. Franny says:

I wish I had chosen a career where only one parent works at a time, and you can choose when you want to work.

Instead both me and my boyfriend are going into medicine…not much picking and choosing there!

  24. Amanda says:

Anyone else think, no botox on that face??!!

  25. Susan says:

So gald that she discussed her film alot in this interview. Wait she didn’t! What was this interview – one to promote her film – or herself?

    • Emma says:

Susan, did you (and the rest of the Hens) even bother to watch the interview?

Yes, they talked about her film. The interview was conducted in Budapest, so she even gave him a tour of the buildings they used for the film. The primary actors were there as well in a brief segment (which was 60 Minutes’ decision) where Angie showed them the trailer for the film, and they appeared to be both impressed and overwhelmed. They explained how Angie asked the actors’ opinions about certain scenes (since they’d lived through the war) and if they didn’t think it worked or was accurate/authentic, she changed it with their input.

      Happy now?

  26. Lithe says:

Bob Simon did not bring his A-game to this interview–unlike Angie who always brings hers! She is one smart cookie–and absolutely gorgeous.

    • Freya says:

I’ve seen the 60 Minutes interview and I liked it. I just wish interviewers would stop mentioning things from the past that have been covered a thousand times.

  27. sassenach says:

I wish they would have showed more of when she was surrounded by the cast of the movie. They had interesting things to say. How many times is she going to be asked about tabloids and her past?! She is always interviewed by the worst people.

    • Emma says:

I agree! I would have been happy with the whole interview being spent with Angie and the cast of her movie.

  28. sarah says:

She definitely has lots of botox. she looks beautiful though. Why do you think botox makes women look ugly? It was invented to improve your look in the first place. Excessive botox usage can make one look unnatural and ugly (like d-cup fake boobs). Jolie’s dermatologist seems to know what to do

    • Yep says:

Queen brad is the one that uses Botox. Sometimes you can still see the little red dots all over his forehead from freshly applied Botox . Angelina has a lot of facial expressions and is aging naturally … That’s why her haters say she looks old.

      • Annie says:

Of course she does botox, they all do. There are pix of her with that little nose wrinkle between the eyes when I smile thing going on, it’s a dead give away. However, since she’s not filming, she might be letting the time between top-ups lag a bit.

    • mln76 says:

Sorry ladies but the face moved the forehead crinkled and wrinkled and she has laugh lines…..NEXT.

      • Annie says:

As I said, not filming, letting the top up lag. It’s quite clear in photos over the years that she’s as much a fan of Botox as the rest of Hollywood. Let’s see how much that forehead moves come Oscar RC time.

      • mln76 says:

Annie glad to know you watch Angie’s movies welcome to the Angeloonie fold 🙂 but seriously if you look at candid shots of Angie taken at the time she was shooting you can tell she doesn’t tox. The film is retouched because unfortunately our youth obsessed culture thinks of untoxed actresses as looking unhealthy. BTW Clint Eastwood specifically mentions her as an actress who is natural with no surgery or fillers. Do you think Clint would bother lying about that?

      • Annie says:

They call those little nose wrinkles that go from the inner corner of your eye down your nose “bunny lines” and it’s a dead giveaway for botox use. She’s quite clearly got them in this pic: http://cdn.buzznet.com/media/jj1//2010/07/jolie-slit/angelina-jolie-sexy-slit-22.jpg

She also, despite smiling widely, had a forehead that hasn’t moved a millimeter in that pic. So yeah, she does. Just like everyone else in HW over the age of about 25.

      • mln76 says:

Wow Annie you really are obsessed if you have all these pics stored up of Angie. But Ugh I don’t think that one candid actually proves she’s botoxing. IF she is she’s not going anywhere near the level that a few other people who seem to slur their words because their face is so filled do. I have a feeling I won’t change your mind. And I am not interested in finding out how many pictures of Angie you’ve saved.

      • Annie says:

A simple Google search of – Jolie “bunny lines” turns up several photos showing the same. And a few of other actresses showing the same thing. One hardly needs to be obsessed to use Google. So kill me, I notice things like that. On my friends, on public figures, on the lady next to me in the checkout line in my neighborhood.

I don’t see what the big deal is. She uses it, so what? As I said above, so does everyone else in HW above the age of 25. Whoop de doo… is she supposed to be Wonder Woman for whom time stands still and the laws of physics and gravity no longer apply?

For the record, I’ve got no issue with reasonable surgery, touchups, fillers, etc. Nor with hair colouring, contact lenses, teeth bleaching, or hours spent at the gym et al. These people’s livelihoods depend in large part on how they look. If they look like cr*p, they don’t get parts any more. Unfortunately, HW has very little time or interest in nurturing the careers of hugely talented but unattractive actors or actresses.

  29. Derpy says:

I loved the interview and what she spoke of, did not like Bob. Agree with Kaiser and her opinions on how he acted.

I cried when she spoke of her mom, whenever I speak with someone about having a family in the future, I have always went into a tearful remembrance of my mother, and how wonderful she was, and how if I am 1/10th of the mother to my children that she was to me, I will be a pretty damn fantastic one.

She still seems very… put off by her father. From what I got out of the web exclusive about their relationship, she’s doing it more for James and her children, than in an effort to truly reconcile their relationship as father and daughter.

  30. Tereza says:

I love her. I could sit and watch her talk in that velvet alto voice for hours. She could be selling sand in the desert and I would buy.

  31. spinner says:

The interview topics & sound bites are all discussed before-hand. She could have insisted on what she wanted to talk about or there would be no interview. If he brought up things that were “not up for discussion”…she could have said no comment. She IS promoting the movie based on her personal life & that’s a shame. I am not holding out much hope for this movie.

  32. Luise says:

Her face is so over processed. In her Tomb Raider days, her face was round and her nose was a little piggy. Looks like she’s had some sort of chin implant and cheek bone implants also.

    • maya says:

OMG, she was TEN years younger then – she is older and thinner now! That juvenile and constant hate for woman that did nothing wrong to you is just mind boggling.

    • Freya says:

Look at her teenage pictures and look at her now. It’s the same face, a face that has matured, but just so you’ll be happy, let me say that Jolie has had everything redone, eyes, nose, mouth, jaw, chin, cheeks, ears.

      Feeling better now?

  33. Bubbling says:

As a Serbian woman I’m very afraid of the repercussions this film will inevitably cause. Will it go on to show the ugly face of war, which severely damaged everyone in former Yugoslavia countries, be it Serbs, Bosnians or Croats or is it going to promote bad image about Serbia and succeed only in portraying us as some sort of blood hungry savages?

    • maya says:

She said she gave her script to actors and writers from all over former Yugoslavia (yes, Serbia too!) for approval, and actors had their say about characters they play (yes, Serbian actors too!). You can read more about the process of making that movie in her interview with Clint Eastwood for Interview Magazine.

      • Freya says:

Yes, it’s great that the actors have been given the chance to contribute to the script, and I have read the interview by Clint Eastwood. He has seen ITLOBAH, and likes it.

    • Cheyenne says:

I believe it was Serbians who first used the term “ethnic cleansing” and, like the Nazis in Germany before them and the Hutus in Rwanda after them, proceeded with a vicious campaign to carry it out.

No rational person would say all Serbians are “blood hungry savages”. But the atrocities committed by some Serbians during the war are an unpleasant fact they will all have to live with.

      • Bubbling says:

I really do not want to turn this in political debate, it’s no time or place. I would love to have this discussion in better/different circumstances. Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion, however kindly refrain from making such comparisons. Thank you

      • Cheyenne says:

@bubbling: Don’t take it so personally. America has to deal with the legacy of slavery, racism and sending our Japanese population to internment camps during World War II. No country is free from blots on its history, including ours.

      • Katherine says:

Well, it was a blood thirsty time in the Balkans. No side was without sin in that struggle. Unfortunately for the other factions, the Serbs had the greatest capability of inflicting the most damage on their victims.

I agree it was a disappointing interview though these web exclusives were very interesting as was the part of the televised interview that touched on the film itself.

    • Freya says:

A war always makes blood hungry savages of some (many?) people. What matters is what is true.

  34. Embee says:

I don’t recall Angelina discussing her mother prior to her mother’s illness/death. I’m not saying that she didn’t love her mom or wasn’t close to her, but I just don’t recall that relationship ever being addressed publicly.

My snarky, bitchy self is suspicious that AJ has used that loss as part of her public persona…as a sort of counterbalance to the bad-ass tough girl image she gets from doing action movies.

    • G says:

FWIW, I do. I can’t cite date or links but I have heard her speak about her mother and how great she was right back to her GIA days. It’s always been my impression that she was very close, if not outright protective of her mother and on the outs with her father.

    • Emma says:

Embee, if you weren’t interested enough at the time to notice when Angie mentioned her Mom in interviews, or pictures of Angie and her Mom out and about together, just look it up … Google is our friend.

LOL!! But then again, if you weren’t interested enough to notice it at the time, you probably wouldn’t be too interested in looking it up now, would you? 🙂 Peace!

    • mln76 says:

She’s always been close to her mother. In fact her Mom was her manager until she was diagnosed with cancer. She’d been quoted several times as saying her mom was her only friend. She also said the sock puppet she used when she was in Girl Interrupted was made by her mom. As someone who lost a parent I will tell you for several years afterwards random things would make me lose it and tear up. It still happens nearly a decade later. I’ve been there and until you lose a parent or a very close parent you don’t understand just how profound that loss is. It doesn’t just get better after 6 months you never stop missing that person in your life.

      • anon says:

I agree it’s so sad. I feel for anyone who loses a parent early. So many things in life that you wish they were around for, getting married, having children, comfort, advice etc. I feel for both you and Angie. Still saddens me that her mom has missed so much from both of children’s lives. Sorry for your loss Min76 I understand how hurtful it is and will be.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Well said and I’m sorry for your loss.

  35. Yep says:

I’m guessing this site didn’t like it because she didn’t fawn all over your queen brad. I found it refreshing and at times I forgot she was even with that idiot until the interviewer mentioned mr and mrs smith. I definitely liked this interview far more than any she’s done since being with your queen. Finally she didn’t fake gush about him. Lol

    • pamela says:

God, you are tiresome. Does Brad owe you money or something?

      • Cheyenne says:

I’m guessing Brad looks like the guy who dumped her back in high school. Some people never get over that.

    • MindScribe says:

I’m guessing she just can’t get over referring to Brad as “Queen”. It’s just TOO funny, right? The first time she heard it, she was like, “Yes, that!” and never again will she miss an opportunity to use it in a sentence.

  36. yep says:

“it’s easy to walk away from a divorce but much harder to walk away from a family?” –
I guess Ted Casablanca was right all along. Angelina is with Brad because/for her kids. ;(

    • Cheyenne says:

Ted Casablanca is never right about anything, but you keep on believing that if it makes you feel better.

    • Get real says:

You really need to stop drinking the Ted Casablanca kool aid. The man is a JOKE. He knows NOTHING about Angelina and Brad. He needs to keep doing what he does best….making up lies about the Twilight stars, lol.

    • Freya says:

I was going to ask who is this Ted C, but from reading the replies I see that he is a tabloid writer, maybe for inTouch? So yep, you don’t believe what they write in tabloids, do you?

  37. samira677 says:

It’s laughable how dumb and hypocritical the haters are. Every celebrity interview talks mostly about their personal life. Funny how nobody complains when Johnny Depp, Charlize Theron, etc talks about their personal life but when Angelina does she’s pure evil and a sellout. If Angelina lived for tabloids and her image, why hasn’t she done anything to change it? She’s constantly bashed for wearing black, working, adopting, etc. If she cared she would have retired, put Shiloh in pink dresses with bows, etc. If you had bothered to read or watch the interview you would know she wanted to be a funeral directed because she didn’t like the way the funeral was handled. It had nothing to do with being edgy. Haters also need to get over this fantasy that Brad can’t stand Angelina and the kids but has to say. Parents end their relationships all of the time. Why people think Brad is the only man in the world who can’t leave is ridiculous.

  38. lisa says:

sorry to burst bubbles.. but the vast majority of the world in not on gossip sites reading about celebrities. They may tune into an entertainment show now and then but they are not reading blogs. I can honesty say the majority of my friends NEVER go to a gossip site. I don’t buy the tabloids. So the interview was a celebrity profile for the people that know who she is but not WHO SHE IS. He actually said very nice things about her. Bob Simon is not of this generation. He even said he went to female friends to get question ideas. How old do you think those friends are. Not 20 I bet. So that being said he talked about what he knew. And I was glad on the tabloid question he didn’t touch the triangle or all the really over the top stories on those covers.. which funny thing were YEAR old (I wondered where the dug them up from).

The man and the show are OLD SCHOOL. The cast of the film is not well known. So the interview is about her. About the writer, director of the film. Look at any segment on any other actor and this is how it goes. Not different for Angie.
She has not done a sit down interview for over a YEAR. So unfortunately the interviews don’t ask questions the fans want to know. but we know a lot because we do read the legit interviews.

And laughing at the Botox thing. We see her head moving. but I notice someone said because they did the botox right. LOL. So if she looks great it has to be some “procedure” they showed pictures of her from past roles. and for aging or weighing more or less that face is stunning and natural. I guess her detractors were disappointed at that.

Looking forward to the RCs on Dec. 5th in NYC and Dec. 8th in LA. It is exciting for her. She has her first film premier as a Director. Not many actresses have had that happen.

Way to go Angie. regardless of what happens Angelina Jolie is quite special.

    • G says:

If Bob Simon thinks he’s above interviewing Angelina, then he shouldn’t have.

No wonder 60 minutes is in the toilet.

    • pamela says:

There is a head on shot of her when she was drinking from the tea cup…..she is otherworldly stunning. And I think that is what has a bug up the detractos butts today. That plus she was thoughtful and articulate. There is another video of her talking about her relationship with her father and his place in her family’s life, and it shows how honest and wise she is. She is a good and decent woman who is unfairly, (which is an understatemet) traeted in the gossip media, all because of a weak manipulative woman who can’t move on from a divorce.

      • Josephina says:

I wholehertedly agree with you. Angie is simply living her life and she has accomplished a tremendous amount of work (gross blockbuster and indie movies, humanitarian and activist’ activities) WHILE creating and keeping together a very large family unit, while trveling across the globe.

It is obvious that she has help. That does not change the fact that her drive to make a difference in the world is so very strong and very palpable.

She is only 36 years old. She said it herself — she is teaching her daughters to want to be smart and not just be pretty.

    • LAK says:

couldn’t agree more. I think AJ is polarising because she doesn’t appear to play by societal rules, and succeeds. The conventional wisdom is that if you break the rules, you are punished.

Personally i like her for the same reason i like Madonna, not so much for their CVs but for what they represent which ultimately is about achievement and a lack of fear.

Are some of their choices questionable, you bet. However, they tried and look how far they got. We could all learn from them.

    • Camille says:

Great comment lisa, I agree. I thought it was a good interview, nothing to get anybodies panties in a bunch about.

I could listen to AJ talk all day, she has a lovely voice and is so articulate and sounds intelligent, which I like.
I also loved the quote about her wanting her daughters to be ‘stunning on the inside’ etc. <3

      • lisa says:

Can you imagine a world where women actually care more about their brains then the outfit they are wearing or their makeup or whatever.

I’m a woman and want to look my best for me and my guy. But so tired of everything being about appearance. That quote about her girls was awesome. and that should have been elaborated on. She has 3 daughters. Who are being raised by a mother that is quite beautiful. How will she shape them to not try and be ‘beautiful” or to live up to her. I read some comment about Demi’s daughters. How they were not as beautiful as she. Well I think you start young. As she said “teaching them to be stunning on the inside, and the rest will fall into place”. Good think Angie has foresight, and is letting her daughters be who they are and finding their way

    • Freya says:

Great post, lisa! I must say that so many posters went on for so long about a triangle, but Brad put an end to that, finally, with the Parade interview. Before that interview there were people who kept hoping and predicting he’d leave his family for his old life.

Didn’t know about the RCs on Dec 5 and 8. Thanks!

      • sandy#1 says:

well, he put that to an end, even though he took a lot of negative from it, but the truth is out there, now they result to calling him names, queen this, queen that, i say, if he was such a queen without guts, he would still be with the shallow one, that really pissed her (ja) fans off, let it go already.

  39. HoustonGrl says:

I’m always so impressed by Angelina, and I think she comes across as a genuinely warm and caring person…That interviewer, though, horrible!! He was indeed stuck in 1998 Kaiser!! And he narrated this whole thing like some judgmental WASP.

  40. Sara says:

Loved the interview. She was professional, gracious, humble, and you can see she is vulnerable which makes her human. I watched The Tourist again last night and really liked it.

  41. mln76 says:

It’s criminal that the bit about Jon Voight wasn’t included in the main interview. WOW she is candid and interesting.

    • Freya says:

That’s the word to describe her. Interesting, unlike so many other Hollywood women, who are mainly into, “Who are you wearing.”

  42. skuddles says:

It’s odd how even the tiniest mention of AJ brings out such a flurry of heated commentary and criticism. I find her to be one of the most authentic celebs out there. Could not give a shit about her “wild” past – whatever, who wasn’t half nuts in their 20’s? What’s important is she does not pretend to be something she’s not, and she puts her heart and soul into helping her fellow man. She’s intelligent, interesting, socially aware, and appears to have a very good heart – I have a lot of respect for the woman she’s grown into.

    • Camille says:

      I agree.

    • Freya says:

Yes, and some of us were threequarters nuts, and we all grew up to become adult and responsible people.

AJ has definitely grown into an interesting Hollywood personality. I have no idea what’s ailing her detractors. They can’t expect her to be perfect, because nobody is, so what is it.

      • skuddles says:

Maybe it’s her undeniable beauty? Although she’s got it ALL going on – looks, talent, smarts, altruism, love, children, wealth… that might be more than some folks can handle.

And yep, I can relate to the 3/4’s nuts in my 20’s too. But I grew up and wised up and managed not to leave a body count in my wake 😀

  43. Seal Team 6 says:

    @Skylar

YOU are the one who brought up Jennifer Aniston, but you already know that.

I never thought I’d see political message board-quality trolls on CB, but they are as thick as grits in the South on the AJ threads.

  44. Hollywood Brat says:

Her interview was rather boring. Arielle Metzger and her brother stole that whole show from A.J., because both siblings made A.J. look shallow and fake. I have more respect for Arielle Metzger and her brother, because they are going through hell right now. They manage to keep a positive outlook on life. There are more comments on their piece than AJ’s from people that want to help their family. Watch that their story on the site and you’ll see how prententious AJ is.

  45. Heine says:

He’s their foreign correspondent and maybe they thought it would be appropriate since the film is about a foreign and she’s ‘international’ in a number of ways, but he likely thinks he drew the short straw since he’s normally reporting on stuff that actually matters.

Chances are he was annoyed that he had to interview an actress. And since he is a little older than the average Jolie fan, who knows if he actually knew anything about her outside of her movies and a vague understanding that she does UNHCR work.

And I mean, when the last story he did was about the continuing repression and torture in Egypt following Mubarak’s resignation, a fluff piece about an actor and their *movie* might be a tad annoying to him.

  46. Tazina says:

I like this interviewer. He doesn’t try to take over the interview but lets her speak.

  47. the original bellaluna says:

I also find the tabloids “quite shallow” but I love the work AJ does for others.

  48. Callumna says:

Didn’t she jump in a pool at Golden Globe awards in a gown in front of the press and tell red carpet interviewers about how she and Billy Bob had just “f-ed” (classy) and were wearing vials of blood?

Didn’t she deny being with a costar she then started a family with?

Doesn’t she work with Jeffrey Sachs who seeks out celebs like her and Madonna to publicize important world issues?

I’m guessing all of the above will get an actress the tabloid and press coverage they’re um… not seeking.

    • lisa says:

Actually she jumped in the pool on a bet if she won.. she won so she jumped.

and NOPE she didn’t tell a reporter that she F her husband. actually he said it in jest. and NO not a vial of blood but a locket with a drop of blood.

again with all the urban legend and tabloid stories. But you really seem to be butt deep in all those fake stories. Maybe you should get out of that puke and find the facts.

re Jeffrey Sachs google the man. His contributions to the world go far from a man that “seeks celebrities to publicize world issue”. That should be the first thing you do when you throw someones name in story not about them.

this happens when people shoot arrows. They mean for them to hit a certain target, but usually miss by miles and someone else gets the hit.

      • Freya says:

I read that it was Jolie who contacted Sachs, because she wanted him to help her start a project like he started in Africa (I forgot where exactly), in Cambodia.

It doesn’t really matter. I read that the Maddox-Jolie project in Cambodia is thriving.

  49. Laughing Librarian says:

…and well she should. The tabs are especially fixated on her and Brad, obviously, and the arguments and jealousies they conjure up between them are ridiculous.
I believe strongly that neither one of them would ever do anything to jeopardize their family. They obviously both love their brood very much.
Loved the interview, and loved the English bulldog. When she was talking about her mom, she was obviously quite upset, and that vein on her forehead made an appearance. Speculation: the vein on her forehead appears when Angie is stressed out.
I lost my mom, too, and I know how hard it is to talk about it, especially to a relative stranger. I salute Angie for establishing her boundaries early in the interview (or in whatever sequence it was filmed).
Btw, Jon Voight is a douchebag and always will be a douchebag.

  50. Tutle Dove says:

She wasn’t schizophrenic in Girl, Interrupted, she was a SOCIOPATH. Uhh… research.

It’s like he thinks this is beneath him. The whole interview was a tabloid report. If was an interviewer with a grain of salt, he would have jumped on those little gems that she gave. “Are you scared.” “Yes. In a good way.” Delve into that not the salacious stuff that sells magazines… I mean TV spots.

    • Heine says:

That interviewer is more than worth his salt. He just doesn’t give a crapsicle about Jolie. He normally reports on important world events. You know, stuff that really matters.

      • Runs with Scissors says:

I realize that someone like Jolie makes insecure women feel threatened and that they are far more comfortable with the likes of hair-twirlers with rambunctious nipples, but I’d wager that Jolie has witnessed first hand, as much ‘repression and torture’ over the last DECADE with the UNHCR as this interviewer ever has.
He simply seemed unprepared for the interview, but she still came off as intelligent and articulate as ever. No amount of jealous whining will change that fact.

      • Heine says:

        You’re kidding right?

        http://m.cbsnews.com/storysynopsis.rbml?&feed_id=0&catid=26916&videofeed=36&nb_splitPage=0

And just in case you didn’t click on that and read the article here are two interesting excerpts of a fascinating story about an accomplished individual:

‘While at “60 Minutes II,” Simon received an Emmy Award (2000) and an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award (2001) for “Shame of Srebrenica,” a report on heinous acts of genocide in Europe, and another Emmy Award (2000) for “The Lost Children,” a report on orphaned children shipped to Australia. He also received an Emmy Award (2001) and an IRE certificate (2001) for his investigation into the fate of a Navy pilot shot down in Operation Desert Storm.’

‘Simon was named CBS News’ chief Middle Eastern correspondent in 1987 and is recognized as the premier broadcast journalist in that part of the world. He was captured by Iraqi forces near the Saudi-Kuwaiti border during the opening days of the Gulf War in January 1991. He and the
other three members of CBS News’ coverage team spent 40 days in Iraqi prisons, an experience Simon wrote about in his book Forty Days (Putnam, 1992). Two months after his release in March 1991 he returned to Iraq to do an hour-long documentary, “Bob Simon: Back to Baghdad.” He went to Baghdad again in January 1993 to cover the American bombing of Iraq.’

This man has seen more of the world and reported on more ‘repression and torture’ in the last 40 years than Jolie has seen in the last decade. He’s been reporting on world events longer than she’s been alive.

      • Cheyenne says:

@Heine: Then maybe he should’ve retired to count his awards and quit while he was still ahead before he agreed to do this interview, because this was one he won’t want to be remembered for. He did a lousy job.

      • Runs with Scissors says:

Heine, I know you hate it but Jolie is obviously ‘important’ enough for this interviewer to be sent all the way to Budapest to do a story on her. Imagine where she’ll be with 30 more years worth of experience.

You’re obviously dead set on trying to denigrate her and her experience by projecting your own insecurities into the story.

You can’t change the fact that she is intelligent, talented and well respected, and I don’t understand why you’d try.

      • Heine says:

Wow. You two are extraordinary. Truly.

Cheyenne: He hasn’t just won awards (though you seem to think they are important when it comes to Jolie), his body of work is astounding and far more interesting than ANYTHING Jolie has done. Maybe he did a lousy job because he didn’t care. You’re right, he won’t be remembered for this. He’ll be remembered for you know, the important things he’s reported on like Vietnam, the conflicts in the Middle East and his own abduction and incarceration by Iraqi forces.

Runs with Scissors: Where have I said anything about Jolie other than that this man doesn’t care about her? You are trying to make a point that doesn’t make sense. I proved that this man has over 30 years more experience dealing with repression and torture (probably has first hand knowledge having been jailed for 40 days) than Jolie and all you’ve got is ‘You’re insecure and jealous!’

This is why people call you loonies.

      • Runs with Scissors says:

        lol, yeah ok

      • Cheyenne says:

@ Heine: Maybe he didn’t care? Then maybe he shouldn’t have done the interview! DOINK!! Why would he deliberately make himself look like a nitwit on front of a national audience?

And ROFLMAO @ you, thinking anyone cares if you Jenhens call us loonies. I don’t presume to speak for my co-loonies, but coming from a charter member of the boo-hoo sisterhood, it’s one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever had.

      • Heine says:

Hahahaha yep, you’ve both confirmed it 😉

By the way Cheyenne, the only person who looks like a nitwit is you for trying to diminish Bob Simon. He looks like a serious newsman who did the best he could with a fluff piece. Face it, not everyone finds her as fascinating as you do. There is nothing wrong with that.

But whatever, keep it up. I’m washing my hands of this conversation. Anyone who reads this exchange will be flabbergasted by your immature responses.

      • Cheyenne says:

        @Heine: Ciao. Mind the doorknob.

      • Freya says:

Heine, you must find Jolie very interesting too, or you wouldn’t be here regularly.

      • Heine says:

Freya: She isn’t particularly interesting-certain groups of her fans are a fascinating breed of crazy though. Always good for a laugh though when they irrationally freak out over any perceived slight. The stubbornness, hard-headedness and immaturity some of these supposed adults (and grandparents) display is interesting.

        Just look above 🙂

Angelina on the other hand…in my opinion she’s a humorless bore. But that’s just my opinion which I am entitled to. It is neither correct or incorrect-it just is. Calm your minds and fingers.

      • Julia says:

The fact that he reports on important things on the world, should have been a testament of his PROFESSIONALISM whatever the subject he treats.

He failed in that regard if he didn’t learn properly and beforehand his subject before doing his job like any pro in every profession would do before delivering no matter the subject. That’s a basic lesson any executive, employee learns.

His resumé makes the whole blund even more epic for a person of his stature with such a resume. When you are a professional with exeprience you should be on point and not sounding like an amateur because you were too lazy to learn properly the subject you are treating, whatever the subject is.

      • kira says:

And, calling other posters “a breed of crazy” is the epitome of maturity. Weren’t you the one who kept repeating that Heidi Bivens had a busted weave over and over and over on the Aniston thread? That’s great–criticizing a woman who is only in the spotlight because of Aniston’s cheating with her live-in partner. She doesn’t quite deserve that kind of scrutiny. Real mature.

      • Annie says:

I can see how he might be ticked off. One of his areas of expertise is the Middle East. You’ve got thousands and thousands of protesters of all denominations back in Tahrir Square in Cairo trying to get the military to hand over the reins. They had the first round of their elections there yesterday that is going to shape the country and where it’s headed, and he’s interviewing an actress who is promoting her film. Regardless of how good the film may or may not be, it’s still only a film, not a region-changing event that has the possibility of throwing the Middle East into chaos.

It’s happening in his neighborhood, on his beat and he’s probably not a happy camper to be doing this instead of being in the thick of things.

      • Cheyenne says:

You lose, Heine. Again. Doesn’t it get demoralizing after a while?

      • Heine says:

Kira: Ok yes, it was immature to call certain fans of hers crazy. I apologize.

        They are highly amusing though.

And I said ‘busted weave’ all of two times. The woman is a stylist-she knows what looks good, she should present herself well and her hair looked awful that day. Had that been anyone else, it would have been commented on.

Julia: I didn’t see it that way. It is clear that he normally does work that matters on subjects that are changing people’s lives. His ‘laziness’ might be a case of the ‘who cares?’ but he did his job. Maybe not as thoroughly as he would a story on the Middle East but she and her movie frankly doesn’t deserve as much of his time.

        Cheyenne: Lost what, exactly?

    • Freya says:

They sent the wrong person to interview her. He is from a previous generation. The one who interviewed Pitt for 60Minutes Australia was at least closer to his age.

    • Freya says:

You find Jolie interesting, Heine. Admit it! If she really is a humorless bore, you wouldn’t be here, in threads about her so often.

      • Heine says:

Freya: And Cheyenne keeps going on about how Jen fans aren’t very bright.

I’ve already said why her fans are interesting and she isn’t.

      • Camille says:

Freya: I agree. I think Heine is obsessed with AJ or something, or why else would she post so often in the Brangelina threads? Her fans aren’t *that* interesting 😉 lol.
Go on Heine, admit it, you have a little crush on AJ don’t ya. 😉 LOL

  51. Scarlett says:

She looks old and tired. I see that she doesn’t use botox but fillers for sure. She has similar facial bone structure like Taylor Armstrong. I think she had some jaw/neck lift. Her cheek bones look pretty unnatural too. And nose job but it is old thing. I wish she could gain few pounds. She is aging, Brad is aging I’m sure it is hard situation for them. Their beauty is fading away and in the end they build ther career on pretty faces.

    • Rose says:

Hate to break it to you, but we’re all aging, day by day, minute by minute. Nothing wrong with that either.

    • WTF says:

Ignorant comment. I would expect no less from a hater.

    • Cheyenne says:

If you are a 42 year old woman who has no other interest in life besides keeping yourself tanned and toned while you simper and twirl your hair, thinking this is going to make you look 20 years younger, then I would imagine in such a case, aging would be very difficult. If you are a 36 year old woman or a 47 year old man with a large family, a thriving career and many interests outside of your career, then I think you might be able to take aging in stride and be comfortable with looking your age.

I haven’t mentioned any names but you can fill in the blanks for yourself.

      • Carrie says:

Of course shes ageing. I respect her for clearly not using botox or fillers. She has 6 children, a partner, a successful career, humanitarian duties, of course she’s going to look tired sometimes. But you also know that given the choice she wouldn’t change a single thing about it.

    • Emma says:

LOL!! I love it how everyone (well, not really … just Angie and Brad) are ugly, aging, and using Botox and filers except for Princess ‘Natural,’ Jennifer Aniston. 🙂

  52. Mairead says:

I liked the clip where she mentions that she doesn’t see herself acting in 10 years.
I got a hilarious mental image of Empress Z in the back seat of the people carrier shouting “But Mooooooom, you said that if I was good I could invade Greenland!!!”

  53. euroschmuck says:

I really love this woman. It is not even that she is a beauty, many women are, its just I think she is really nice and happy and knows what things are important in life. This Brad is a lucky guy and these kids are lucky kids, not only for the fame and fortune.

  54. caitrin says:

Lovely interview.I’m not a fan of AJ as an actress, but i think the humanitarian work she does is extraordinary. So is her compusure, and her passion for what she does. As for finding gossip and tabloids to be terribly shallow, I agree. They are certainly NOT meant to be taken seriously, or as indisputable fact, which is why all the insipid “Jen hen”and “Team this, Team that…” is so maddening. She would find those ofyou who actually resort to insulting one another over “teams” in the supposed “triangle” with JA, to be terribly shallow and misguided, as well.

  55. Julia says:

Jolie is all beauty and brains. She is articulate, sounds mature, serene, at peace and with her priorities in check.

She is the total package and it’s rare, especially in Hollywood, especially at a relatively young age.

    • Thanks,you said everthing I was thinking!!

    • Camille says:

Excellent comment, I couldn’t agree with you more. 😀

Give me AJ over twits like the Kardashians and the many other stupid, vapid, untalented party girls that seem to over run HW. *shudder*
Give me a woman of substance like AJ any day of the week.

    • Addie says:

      Beautifully put.

Once you know what being at peace with yourself and your surroundings feels like, being greatful for all that you have and not wishing too much for what you don’t have…you understand the calmness that Angie shows in her day to day life.

    • whatevs says:

add to that she isn’t pretentious, which is a huge plus

  56. sandy#1 says:

Angelina comes off articulate and well informed, it’s apparent that her distractors see that also and have to work extra hard in negative feed back, if Angie is all of that? why waste your time on someone like brad? maybe he’s more than a pretty face? they have obviously talked about what they each want and need in this union and it works for them, we don’t have to like it, they obviously don’t care.

    • sandy#1 says:

oh i forgot to mention, the lady is beautiful, smart, i could not stop staring at her, the word beautiful should have her picture right there, i now understand all the hurt from brads past, how could you possibly compete with this,… you can’t, brad gets major points., Angie is blessed to have brad in her life, they make it work.

  57. Redd says:

ita with caitrin, I’m no fan, I don’t think I have even watched 2 whole AJ movies, but gosh, aren’t the hormones and emotions running high on this topic?

  58. L says:

Thought she came off well in the interview.

But just a pet-peeve of mine – it’s annoying when people use the expression “full-time mother” as a synonym for stay-at-home mother. Working mothers are not “part-time mothers”.

  59. Addie says:

Can I just say that my new fav Brangelina child is Jacque the fur baby dog. Too beautiful for words!

  60. Embee says:

Finally got around to watching the interview.

I thought Simon treated Jolie as he would any other interview subject, and in so doing showed her professional regard. True, he termed her character’s malady in Girl, Interrupted incorrectly, but it wasn’t a crucial element of the interview–he was simply reviewing her body of work which includes a turn at portraying a mentally ill young woman. In context, he was showing the gravity of the roles Jolie has attempted.

And I thought he handled her emotions regarding her mother deftly and with respect.

I actually thought his comment “over the past few years” regarding her UNHCR work was a bit wry, as is “she’s been doing this a helluva long time.”

My confusion is why people think he treated her badly. He did not. He treated her professionally.

    • Addie says:

I agree, he treated her like a NORMAL human being, and did not act like a star stuck teen.

For this reason I think she spoke with him freely and opened up.

She is a normal person and seems happy to be treated as such, not idolised.

  61. teri says:

Angelina was married to BBT, why exactly can’t she have fun with her husband in the back of a limo? Grow up and quit the nonsense. She had one drop of her then husbands blood pressed into a locket….the horror I tell you the horror. Angelina is loved dearly around the world and nothing is going to change it.

    • mln76 says:

Oh and I don’t see why people blame Angie BBT was the one who said they f–ed in the limo while Angie stood there.

    • Carrie says:

Totally. And if anyone thinks there is a single celeb who hasn’t done it in a limo, they are completely naive about Hollywood.

  62. anom says:

jen super fans blame angie for all the evils known to mankind. to them angie is worst than Hitler. why? because she is the woman that brad pitt loves.

  63. F5 says:

OK that was boring as fk. Same old recycled crap.
Movie will be straight to youtube.
Loved her in “Wanted”. Noone kicks azz like Jolie..

  64. Finally,I watched the video. I LOVE the part”I don’t want to play a Bond girl;I want to play Bond” Actually,I thought Bob Simon seemed to be impressed with Jolie. Her pain when speaking of her mother, was not lost on him.I found him to be quite endearing towards her.

  65. SC says:

She finds them shallow, but reads them anyway? I don’t buy it, and I don’t buy that she doesn’t care about what they say.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcxxoKXaACE

When I first watched this video, I was immediately struck by the following contradiction (starts at 1:10):

Ellen: Which [magazine are you curious about]? Us?
Angelina: Yeah, I hadn’t seen that one.

    several seconds later…

Ellen: Do you read, to see what people are saying?
Angelina: No, I just ask my mom if it’s okay.

This interview was years ago, but she’s always tried to portray herself as someone who isn’t interested in gossip, but she was back then, and she’s probably the same now.

    • Carrie says:

I don’t see it as a contradiction at all. I don’t get your point; it seems like you’re reaching and filling in and creating your own story in your head. She never said she actually reads them. She insinuated that perhaps her mother read them and she’d ask if the article was ok. No where in the Ellen interview did she say she actually read them or took a big interest.

  66. NicoleAM says:

I don’t know if this is was addressed already ’cause I don’t have the patience to read all these comments…now don’t look to lynch me but is the reason she was getting bad press because the movie is about a woman who falls in love with her Serbian jailer?

  67. HILARIOUS says:

Reading every ones comments is so funny. Who cares what Brad/Angie or Jennifer/Justin do. They are all just human beings living in this so Judgmental world. The only reason they are talked about is because no one really knows what goes on between any of them. If so Brad/Angie would be separated yrs ago and Jennifer would have had a baby long ago, and not with Justin. Just because Brad/Jennifer didn’t work out they were only married 4 yrs. It happens all the time and worse. The price you pay for FAME! I am definitely a Jennifer Fan!!! I do find Angeline boring as someone so stick figure cannot do what her movies portray her to do..Anorexia does not look good on her. My opinion and if you don’t like it that is your problem not mine! hahahahahaha I bet this gets your panties in an uproar doesn’t it!?!? LMAO!!!!!

    • Carrie says:

“someone so stick figure cannot do what her movies portray her to do”
Well, there you go; that shows what you know, because Angelina does indeed do her own stunts. She has always been very skinny but very strong. She passes medicals, and she does her own stunts. It just proves she is not anorexic as you think she is. And whats with all the “hahahahahaha I bet this gets your panties in an uproar doesn’t it!?!? LMAO!!!!!” Are you 9 years old or something? Such immaturity.

  68. GETOVERYOURIGNORANCE says:

She needs to eat more, her veins pop out and she looks worn out. Maybe some sleep. She is too skinny and that cannot be good for her health as she also has her children to think about. She must stop running herself down so much.

  69. After study a few of the weblog posts in your web site now, and I really like your manner of blogging. I bookmarked it to my bookmark website list and will be checking again soon. Pls take a look at my web page as effectively and let me know what you think.
