Taylor Swift got a new, bangsy haircut: traumatic or sophisticated and pretty?

I’ve been accused of hating on curly hair, right? I think some people accused me of that at some point. So, for the record, let me be clear: I don’t hate curly hair. At all. I love curly hair. I had an Irish friend who had the most luscious curly, brunette hair ever. I loved her hair so much, but it was the bane of her existence any time the humidity reached a certain level, and since we were in Virginia, humidity happened very often. Still, I often wondered what it be like to have curly hair. I often wonder what it would be like to have hair that “kept” a curl, because mine won’t even do that. Anyway: I do not hate curly hair.

But I did dislike the way Taylor Swift styled her naturally curly hair. I disliked the “mall girl” vibe I got from it, and the way her hairstyle made her seem even younger than she really was. But as Swifty continues to rise unabated, her hair is improving. Once again, “improving” does not equal “straightened.” “Improving” means to me that she looks her age, that her hair style makes her look prettier and more sophisticated, and that she found a look that works for her. Well, after YES straightening her curls lately, Swifty just announced on her Twitter that she got a haircut. She added bangs, took off a few inches from the bottom, and got a blow out. I… don’t hate it. At all. Those bangs look – gasp – good! Now she looks like she’s in her 20s. Now she looks like she sees a professional hair stylist. She looks glamorous. I whole-heartedly approve.

PS… Are you as obsessed with Swifty’s cat as I am? Swifty posted a video of her kitty a few weeks ago, and there’s a new photo too:

    Gorgeous.

Her friend’s bangs are hacksville, though.

I remember she had straight hair and bangs before. Someone said she looked like a bitch, which was true. Having said that, and my minor swifty hate, she looks gorge. Wonder how it is ’till she goes back to the curls though.

That cat is to die for. Other than the fact that she looks like a 45-yr old politician’s wife in that video, it’s bonkers cute!

We think she looks better with her ‘normal’ hair. We’re also not completely convinced that is actually HER hair either! It’s not thick enough – she has really thick hair! People with natural curls do! A couple of our gossip friends here have naturally curly thick hair of all the lengths and have each said she will go back to her natural curls soon! This is because with natural curls & waves you wash, spray & go and it looks good, even in the wind! With hair that is styled it’s a pain in the ass, particularly when you’re trying to keep it straight – any source of heat or damp and
you’re done! Back to curly! And, the longer the hair style the bigger pain! As they have told us on countless occasions, and again just now, stick to what you were given and make the most of it! It’s boring when everyone looks the same! Those of us with pan flat thin hair are sure you’ll agree it’s nice to have a change..and some volume, shape, curls (and wouldn’t it be even nicer if they didn’t fall out after 30 minutes!).

Not all curly hair is thick! I wish! I have curly hair and it is very fine even fragile. I like her look with straight hair but having seen her natural hair, I am having to go with this being a wig, there is no way her hair could be straightened into being this thick looking. nope not at all

      • Intercontinential says:

Huh! Wow! How long is your hair? A quick reccy of our girls is the longer the hair the thicker it is, although Iona has a brother with really thick curly hair and his is short, obviously!

Also, have your tried a good leave in conditioner? We all use that to strengthen our curly hair and keep it strong. We all use the Aussie spray leave in conditioner (after normal washing and conditioning, and let our hair dry naturally; minimal heat like maybe once per week) it’s not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either! But it’s the one that works the best and doesn’t glug your hair up with grungy build up!

We all also use Tresemme restructuring deep conditioning treatment mask for breakage and split ends (purple band) and leave it in for the max 5 minutes covered with a shower cap is best we found. Again it’s not the cheapest or most expensive but it’s good stuff!

Wow, sorry for the lecture hope this helps? Good Luck :-)

I agree with Rudd- not all curly hair is thick. Plus, when you straighten your hair, it looks thinner because it’s straight. And if you use a product like morrocan oil it also tames down the poofiness and thickness.

Looks good/great. But again, I like bangs on most…not all, though. I’m one of those w/the naturally curly hair, & let me let all know….it’s a BITCH to keep straight in the humidity…almost impossible where I live…SC.

I do like curly hair, too. But I cut mine, & IMO it’s just not long enough to wear curly to frame my face right at this point….so I go straight for the time being.

Is that the very expensive, designer cat that Swifty claims she rescued from a shelter? Uh-huh. Animal rescue lies piss me off. Also- bangs trauma.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I agree that there is absolutely no way you will EVER find a Scottish Fold kitten at a shelter, sorry. But they’re not “designer” cats either-their flat ears originate from a naturally-occuring genetic mutation. I got my Fold for $250 but I’ve seen them sold for upwards of $1,500. But yeah, she’s definitely lying if she’s claiming she “adopted” it.

The ONLY way is sounds plausible is that one of her rich friends or business peeps got a cat and then didn’t want or couldn’t take care of it, so they gave it to her and she counts that as a rescue.

    • Cerulean says:

Yes you can. Purebred rescues have folds sometimes. I got my Persians from one. There are groups that pull purebreds out of shelters all over the country or if a breeder gets busted by animal control then they will have them. Rare that they are in your local humane society but purebred rescues do have them.
I used to do rescue of all kinds and I love that she adopted.

My cats are like that. Spoiled, vocal and lap babies. I like Swifty. Not out getting drunk, flashing her crotch or dressing like a ten dollar whore. I’m glad she changed her hair. It was looooong overdue.

Taylor Swift got a Sottish Fold??? I have a Scottish Fold! I love her now!
I just had to add that they are the BEST cats-super sweet teddy bears. I’m not a huge fan of the name “Meredith” for a cat though. Still, so stinkin’ cute!

  19. Ashley says:

@Marjalane Um…wtf? Taylor never said that was a rescue cat??

And Taylor looks gorgeous. She’s never worn a wig. She’s just straightened it in the past and worn clip-on bangs a couple times. Which made her look kind of ‘barbie-esque’. I hated that look on her. But these ACTUAL bangs look amazing. And she has layers too so it’s much more rounded. Someone elsewhere mentioned Bridget Bardot, I agree.

I just really hope she keeps this look for awhile. And doesn’t go back to her old hair just in time for the next album. She has SO many new ways to style it for events now. Besides just “curly hair pinned up”.

You can find Scottish Folds up for adoption/rescue on Petfinder. I just did a search. Provided she went to another state to get one (I doubt she did) it *is* possible. That cat is darling. There’s something about hearing a cat meow that just makes my whole day. Still, I wish she would have rescued one from a kill shelter.

Love Taylor, love the new hair.

Very pretty girl, I like the bangs on her. She’s incredibly mature for her age, and refreshingly responsible. She knows many people’s income and lives depend on her and she works like someone far older, I have to respect that.

I am a big bangs advocate, but I do not like these on her. Her face seems too narrow for bangs – it frames her face too bluntly and makes it seem even narrower, IMO.

  34. KLO says:

Isn’t it funny how when a girl gives up her perfectly pretty natural curls and goes straight, she suddenly becomes “chic” and “sophisticated”.

I myself have naturally curly hair and I hate that kind of hair-nazi type of attitude.

When you have naturally really curly hair it takes A LOT of effort to keep it straight. And doing it (to please other people’s “aesthetics”) pretty much ruined my hair that looked fine in the first place. I’m trying to heal it but it takes a lot of work and commitment to undo the damage.

LOVE her new cut, and love her Scottish Fold Meredith.

And, I agree with other posters: she is a nice young lady, who is a good daughter, a good friend, is good to her fans, and is talented and has a good business head.

I also like Miley for similar reasons, although I don’t care for her music, and even though she is definitely a college-aged partier.

I’m going to keep it real. I don’t like Taylor Swift and I wish she would just go away, but I actually think she looks very beautiful with the bangs, the first pic kind of reminds me of an older vintage throw back look, I didn’t recognize her until I read the posting, she looks really great like this ,I hope she commits to this look for a while.

  40. Taylor Fan says:

I don’t like the hair at all! It makes her look too old, and the bangs make her face look odd. She had beautiful natural curly hair, Now she made it straight, just like 50 billion other girls out there. To me, natural is always better. And she taught girls that it was ok to be different. Now, it’s like she doesn’t want to be different anymore, and she used to embrace it. I hope she goes back to the curls ASAP!
Her cat is adorable. Much love for the kitty. But Taylor, Please bring back the curls!
