Fantasia Barrino has given birth to a baby boy! She gave birth yesterday, December 13, in North Carolina. ‘Tasia named the baby Dallas Xavier Barrino, which is interesting. Why didn’t she give the kid his father’s name? The baby-daddy is Antwaun Cook, Fantasia’s long-time married lover. By the last reports – earlier this year – Antwaun is still technically married to his wife Paula, and Paula is super-pissed that Antwaun knocked up Fantasia. Again. Because Antwaun got Fantastia pregnant last year too, and in the midst of the drama of their affair becoming public and Fantasia’s “suicide attempt,” Fantasia had an abortion – which she admitted to in open court, during one of the hearings for Paula and Antwaun’s divorce. Yes, this whole thing is a horrible mess. And now there’s an innocent, newborn baby in the mix.
Fantasia Barrino has a new little backup singer. The American Idol season 3 winner gave birth to a baby boy, Dallas Xavier Barrino, her rep tells PEOPLE. Baby Dallas made his debut on Tuesday in North Carolina at 7 lbs., 9 oz. and 21 inches long. He joins big sister Zion, 10.
“I feel so blessed that my son Dallas Xavier was born healthy, and is a wonderful new addition to our family,” Barrino, 27, tells PEOPLE. “I thank all my fans for their well wishes and continued support.”
The singer expressed her joy about the new baby when she revealed in August she was pregnant, telling the audience at a charity concert in Florida: “So, this child that I carry – God has given me this child. And I don’t have to hide it from none of y’all.”
In October, she announced she was having a boy, and shared that she’d been placed on bed rest as she came into the home stretch of the pregnancy.
Barrino has not spoken about the baby’s father, but the singer has been romantically linked to Antwaun Cook since summer 2010.

She was with Antwaun longer than “since summer 2010.” Their affair began in 2009 or before, I’m pretty sure. I wonder if there’s some new scandal involving Antwaun and ‘Tasia? Are they still together? Bossip’s sources say that Antwaun was allegedly at the NC hospital when Fantasia gave birth, so I guess they are still together. So… I guess baby Dallas didn’t get his daddy’s name just because Antwaun is still married. HOT MESS.

I know some states used to have laws that prevented someone getting a divorce from marrying the “correspondent” in their divorce (as in, the other woman – or man) in that state but I’ve never heard of any laws in the US preventing a man from being named as father on a birth certificate because he is married to someone other than the mother. What state is it that has that law?
some states have laws on the books where only a legal husband can be listed on a birth certificate. It’s either a legal husband or no one. An affadavit of paternity can then be filed.

Girl, bye. Fantasia will sing Jennifer under a table. It has nothing to do with who’s more talented. I’m not an enormous Fantasia fan, but real recognize real. She deserved to win. Period. But that’s neither here nor there.
I beg to differ. The show is American Idol, as in it was originally meant to showcase talent coupled with a person kids could look up to and aspire to be like. Now its turned into this stupid drama reality program. Jennifer should have totally won. She’s beautiful, classy, smart and through her family tragedy, remained calm and cool to the press.
AI is so inconsistent about its morality. One girl was booted off very early in the competition because she modelled in a professional capacity for a company that sold plus-size lingerie, but the same people didn’t have a problem with letting a tone-deaf, unmarried teen mom who was a stripper get third place overall. Not that those things necessarily made her a bad person (now, a dumb one…), but if they’re looking for fresh-scrubbed, I don’t see her winning the title of Praise Queen at the Youth Group Revival Tent Awards.
If they’re putting on a talent competition, they can do as the please, but if they truly think that part of the purpose of the show is provide role models for The Children, they’re dicking up their duties all the way up and down on that front.

I think it’s more common to give the baby the Mom’s last name when the parents aren’t together, although I’ve seen it both ways. I’m sure this loser dad isn’t going to be supporting this baby, so why should it get his last name? Then again, I can’t imagine she’s going to be winning an mothering awards, either!

Here’s hoping Tasia’s 11(?) year old daughter is up to being a proper parent to her little brother. I have a feeling its going to be the only comfort he has. And I know there are still some women out there who believe in having ‘band-aid’ babies to fix their relationship or get a man to stay with her and I can totally believe thats the case with this baby now.
Cook isn’t even legally her partner, let alone a responsible man. It’s so easy to make babies but that doesn’t mean he automatically deserves to be recognised as being the father. That’s a right you have to earn in my opinon. I also don’t know why babies just can’t have the mother’s name or both names.
