The adorable Affleck girls set up a lemonade stand and sell drinks to the paps

These are just some adorable photos of Ben Affleck, a very pregnant Jennifer Garner (she’s shown below, that’s the nanny above) and their girls Violet, six, and Seraphina, almost three. The girls set up a lemonade stand outside their mansion and sold drinks to the public. They even sold them to the paparazzi!

Here’s the description from the photo agency, Fame. It’s worded strangely but you get the point:

Violet and her little sister Seraphina Affleck took to their driveway in the Pacific Palisades, California to sell sweet drinks from their homemade lemonade stand on December 27, 2011 with the help of their nanny. Their mother a very pregnant Jennifer Garner bought a cup herself along with her mother and shortly after dad Ben Affleck came out in sweatpants to help get the girls more customers. Ben asked a few of the surrounding photographers if they would like to buy a glass that a few did enjoy from the girls

I think the lemonade stand is a metaphor for how Garner deals with photographers. She knows they’re there and she’s learned to go with it and maximize the cuteness while Ben is not entirely on board. She surely stages some photo ops, but I still don’t believe that every paparazzi outing with this family is orchestrated. I could be wrong, who knows. I give her the benefit of the doubt because she seems normal. (You’ve probably heard me discuss this before about them, it’s my go-to topic with the Garner-Afflecks.)

Garner is looking like she’s due any day now. She might very well be. She made the announcement of her pregnancy back in late August, and if she was four months along at that time she would be eight months now. It’s possible she was even further along in August and wasn’t showing that much. So the Afflecks are going to welcome another little one soon. I’m wondering if they’ll have another girl or if they’re going to have that boy that Ben is rumored to want.

The family is shown with their nanny, and I’m pretty sure it’s the same one Garner gave a shout out to on Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year. Garner’s mom is also there.

Those girls are just so sweet and cute. Seeing them makes me want to have another kid. Look at Seraphina’s bunny slippers! That sign just slays me.

    So cute!

Am not going to hate … So freakin cute

    They are adorable!
When life hands you lemons (Paps), make lemonade (and $$$).

  4. atlantapug says:

Most celebrities try to shelter their kids from the paps a little more than this. I don’t really know which way is better. Deal with them head on like the Afflecks or avoid them and hide out from them.
The kids are cute, Ben looks like crap, and they sure do produce some gap-toothed children don’t they?

    • BigHair&Pearls says:

LOL! I was just thinking the same thing about the gap-tooth!

      • taxi says:

The gaps are a good thing! Means there’ll be more room for those big permanent teeth to come in properly. Orthodontia, if any, will be easier.

      • DesertRose says:

Taxi is right. I was the only one of four kids without the gap in my family, and the only one to require braces later on in life. I teased my siblings unmercifully, only to get it 10x worse when I was 13 and became brace-face =)

  5. LittleDeadGrrl says:

I think it was cute and the nice thing is it doesn’t look too staged. Garner doesn’t look like her hair and makeup and clothes are done to the max. They all kinda look relaxed.

  6. mel says:

aww so cute. well since they get stalked by the paps all the time least they can do is buy lemonade from the girls.

  7. El Kiddo says:

    i bet it’s a boy this time!

  8. Stephanie says:

This is really sweet. Good for them. What a stark difference these kids seem to be when you compare them to Suri Cruise.

    • Ella says:

Just because the picture looks perfect doesn’t mean it is, for all you know Violet could be a spoilt brat behind closed doors, you don’t know what Suri or any of these kids are like so why compare them and say one is better than the other.

    • Sab says:

Suri Cruise will definitely cut you! For real though, why does she seem like 7 going on an angry 45-plus?? Like she’s already SO over everything?

      • Kat says:

Suri looks angry all the time because she is given everything she wants and is never told ‘no’. She’s going to make Lindsay Lohan look like Mother Theresa by the time she’s 16.

  9. GoodCapon says:

I think it’s definitely staged (what was the reason behind doing it?) but I love, love, love Jen. She will always get a pass form me.

    • Sam says:

Could the reason behind doing it be adding a little normalcy? I think many little kids have the idea at some point to set up a lemonade stand. (This seems to be a fall back point for cartoons/comics/etc) I think its great that they didn’t say “OMG NO, the paps will go crazy!” It’s sweet. Perhaps they are teaching them about money as well? Who knows. I don’t want to be cynical about something as cute as this.

      • marge says:

I was thinking the same thing.. it’s a normal thing for kids to do… why shouldn’t they do it too?

      • ahoyhoy says:

I agree. Both Ben & Jen have expressed nostalgia for the ‘normal’ activities of childhood. I’m sure the girls saw this on t.v. (just as we all do), and wanted to do it too. I can’t see Ben & Jen saying no to something so sweet and normal for their girls.

      • DesertRose says:

I was scrolling down, waiting to see someone mention the normalcy of it. It made me smile seeing it, down to the homemade sign. The girls are cute, and no matter what we think about the Garner/Affleck relationship to the paps, it seems like they’re trying to give their kids a regular childhood. Complete with group lessons and lemonade stands. My luck is crap, but I would bet that these kids turn out pretty decent.

  10. Diane says:

    Ben chose the right Jennifer

    • Lithe says:

I was thinking the same thing!

    • bluhare says:

Did he ever. I don’t have an opinion of her one way or the other, but she seems to really enjoy being the mother to her girls, who are two of the cutest kids in Hollywood. I think that’s part of why she gets papped so much. Those kids almost always are happy and look so cute.

    • Carolyn says:

Agree. I like them together. These kids will grow up far more normal than Suri.

      • Ella says:

You can’t compare Suri to Garners kids Suri is being raised by scientologists, it’s a different life. No one raised in a religious cult stands much of a chance of a normal childhood. Tom’s other two kids have turned out ok so I hope Suri will too.

  11. Cathy says:

The girls might as well make a few bucks of the paps, the paps make a few bucks taking pictures of them. Turnabout is fair play

  12. TheOriginalKitten says:

    This is super-cute!

  13. Franny says:

I want to be their nanny! Seriously…how do I make this happen?

  14. DarkEmpress says:

Violet is the cutest kid in Hollywood.

  15. Talie says:

Yeah, Jennifer Garner actually seems like a real mom and not in that superficial Hollywood way.

    • Ella says:

Jennifer Garner is a celebrity Hollywood mom with a nanny, personal assistant, housekeeper, chef and travels on private jets nothing real about that.

  16. trillian says:

Okay, US citizens, enlighten me. What’s it with those butt ugly running sneakers you guys insist on wearing when dressing casual? There are sooo many kinds of nice and cool sneakers out there, but these just make anyone’s feet look ungainly and they don’t look good with any kind of clothing. Seriously, I can pick out US tourists simply by their footwear. Alot of people in Germany wear sneakers, but never this style, that is for running.

    • Briamatia says:

American’s wear new balance’s. Not all but a lot. And you can totally tell an american tourist by their footwear. They are super comfortable. I do say that while I am not a tourist I am an american living outside of the US and wear new balances. Fashion death indeed!

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Trillian-I know the running sneakers are ugly but I blame the companies for not having cuter-looking FUNCTIONAL running sneaks. I wear my Asics when running errands/shopping in the city because I am usually either going to/from the gym and it’s just easier than bringing something to change into. When I’m in EU I wouldn’t be caught dead in running sneaks though. I know I’m an American tourist but I REALLY try to avoid looking like one!

    • normades says:

So true! In the Euro city I live all the locals wear leather shoes and dark coats. The US tourists wear butt ugly sneakers and Northface jackets.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in running shoes (but then again I don’t jog).

    • Skylar says:

I am a runner and those are the best running shoes to wear. Sometimes we go with the most functional versus the trendiest.

    • Lucy says:

OMG…I’m so sorry our ugly shoewear offends the very stylish Europeans…

      • Isa says:

        I love my Asics!
But yea, I noticed the shoes too. I have this thing about shoes that make your feet look bigger than they really are. They drive me crazy.
I have a pair of New Balance 442s that I love! They make my feet look smaller. They’re my casual tennis shoes. And I paid $0.80 for them!
And since we’re making generalizations here, all the Europeans I know tend to overdress. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like for people around here to make more of an effort on their appearance…but prom dresses are only for prom!!! jk.

  17. NotaBitterBetty says:

Imagine if the Jolie-Pitt kids did this? The accusations of all sorts of evil would come gushing forth. But since it’s the Garner-Affleck kids (whose parents have often complained about the paps), it’s cute. Hmm.

    • mia girl says:

Did you pick your screen name to be ironic?

This really has nothing to do with the Jolie Pitts. And while definitely cute, seems to me that in the posted article there is plenty of speculation that this is staged/contrived.

      • NotaBitterBetty says:

Nothing bitter about pointing out the glaring double standard. I have no problem with the kids selling lemonades or being seen in public or doing anything that kids should probably be doing at their age. It is cute. But for some, it’s only cute when a certain family does it and not another.

    • mln76 says:

While I do agree it’s a double standard it’s still adorable so I ain’t gonna hate.

    • Lucy says:

I was thinking the same thing…I would love to see the jolie-pitts have a lemonade stand! I do love the Affleck girls…Violet is a Garner mini-me and Seraphina looks like Ben…I think Garner just tries to let the kids be kids…the girls probably asked if the could sell lemonade and Jen didn’t want to deny them just because their parents are famous…I hope the new baby is a boy and he looks just like Ben…cause when Ben is cleaned up, he looks HOT!

    • Sab says:

That’s actually kind of funny you brought up the Jolie-Pitt kids. But only because I was looking at one of the girls and thought how cute she was and then thought she kind of looks like Shiloh…

  18. mia girl says:

A lot of kids at one point in their young lives sell lemonade out in front of their house. My kids always felt so proud when then sold a few glasses.

The Affleck girls are seriously cute, and staged or not, it sure looks like the experience made them happy.

  19. The Original Mia says:

    They are adorable! So cute.

  20. DavidBowie says:

The older girl has some really big feet. Wow.

  21. Victoria says:

Wow the kids are doing a very cute thing, and I commend the Afflecks for playing the game without grumbling too much, I don’t see these kids as cute. They are
    kind of fugs. But whatever.

  22. Stephie says:

    Those girls are soooo cute!

  23. Jennifer12 says:

I”m not sure I’d want my kids to engage with the paps, no matter what. Is that wise?

    • Trek Girl says:

Sometimes they just have to keep going on with their lives, even if the paps are there. I think this is a good thing for the Garner-Affleck girls because they get to do something that’s normal and fun, despite the paps being there. They also have pictures of it lol; that’s always a plus.

Not all paparazzi are dangerous, and it’s possible that the Garner-Affleck’s have more control over what gets put in the media by allowing some of their everyday goings-on to be seen.

  24. Ava says:

These kids see paps every single day b/c Jen makes ZERO attempts to avoid them.

And yes, if other celeb kids were doing this you would all scream photo-op, overexposure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOUBLE STANDARDS all around.

Off topic, but the Jolie-Pitts have been living in LA for the past couple weeks and have been hardly photographed at all. It is possible to not be papped everyday in LA, Jen should learn from them.

    • Bite me says:

It’s seems like when the Jolie-Pitts are in LA they are not photograph as much… Hmmmm

    • Trek Girl says:

By allowing some of their everyday goings-on to be seen, celebrities can control what else gets put in the media. It’s a quid pro quo situation; the paps get the shots that can be sold and used in magazines and on blogs, and the stars are able to say what things are off limits and have a say in what gets printed, which can have a positive affect on their careers and how people think of them; it’s also just a great way to ensure privacy and avoid dangerous situations.

I am not sure that this is what the Garner-Afflecks are doing, but this is something that some stars definitely do, and it’s a pretty smart thing to do in many cases.

Besides, the Garner-Afflecks have fans, and it’s great to see that they seem to be doing well. They are a palate cleanser when it comes to celebrity families – refreshingly normal, even if it is just on the surface.

  25. Thelma says:

Seraphina is cute. Violet no…let’s be real. Would it kill Jen and Ben to look presentable? You dont have to dress up to look good in a casual way. Regarding Whether this is staged or not…..of course it is. For someone who’s not a big star anymore, she’s papped A LOT all the time. IMO it’s fine for the girls to have the experience of selling lemonade …they just happen to have famous parents.

  26. Rita says:

    Very cute story.

  27. ahoyhoy says:

I do hope they have a boy this time. But I have noticed that men who have been dogs or treat women like objects seem to always get daughters. It’s like karma teaching them the lesson that women are PEOPLE.
(I say this as the third girl of a formerly very sexist father.)

  28. Celebitchy says:

It took me FOREVER just to wear my gym clothes from home to the gym when I was in the US because I was so used to living in Berlin where you dress up every day. I still have a hard time wearing sneakers and not dressing up just to go out in the US as I’m so conditioned from living overseas.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I hear ya C/B. I am still on the look-out for a nice pair of running/walking sneaks that are PASSABLE (i.e. not offensive) to wear while I’ll be on vaca in EU in a couple months. If anybody has any recommendations….

      • DesertRose says:

I’m treading into dangerous middle-aged lady stuff here, but Clarks makes super comfortable leather shoes that don’t offend as much as standard sneakers. I miss pretty heels, but with two toddlers and all of the holiday events going on, my Un-Block Mary Janes are getting a lot of use lately.

      • trillian says:

I don’t know if they’re available in the US, but I like GEOX Sneakers myself.

    • Raven says:

I say keep dressing up. Dita Von Teese always elevates any street she walks down because she dresses up. You may start a new trend in your town.

    • Cirque28 says:

Yep. On the West Coast, people run errands in pajamas and slippers like it’s no big thing. Though hardly a fashion plate, I just can’t go to the P.O. in my jammies!

    • lindsay says:

What’s up with Germans and Crocs? When I was in Phuket I saw nothing but Crocs on Germans. And speedos.

Note to Euros, speedos are bad. Very very bad. Americans will agree to cut it out the crappy sneakers if you will inform your men that their junk is poorly presented in speedos. Dick is a beautiful thing when not encased in lycra. *shudder*

  29. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I love the sign! With sugar and sugar free.

  30. Turd Fergussen says:

The Afflecks seem like the most normal family in Hollyweird. I bet Jen is totally a Mama Bear when it comes to her kids, and them having a great childhood.

  31. neelyo says:

I recall reading several years ago that Garner, Lopez and CZ Jones were the three most ambitious women in Hollywood. I think this is a PR move and kid of gross to use the kids like that. There are ‘normal’ activities they could engage in that wouldn’t involve the paps. There’s nothing normal about growing up with cameras following you around. I suspect something’s up in the marriage and this is her way of putting up the happy family front. That’s just my opinion.

  32. Jessica says:

Their eldest looks like Anna Paquin. I didn’t see it until looking at these pics, but she does. Check out that last pic.

  33. kazoo says:

    Uhhh. This is not okay.

  34. Jenny says:

These may be the most photographed children in Los Angeles. On the surface it seems like a set up for cute paparrazi photos, which is not cool to me. Garner has complained in the past about pap intrusions, but after this, I think her complaints will ring hollow.

  35. Flea says:

Makes my ovaries ache (& not just in a poly cystic ovarian kind of way either)!

  36. teri says:

Two girls are so cute, but I have a problem with the mother always prancing them around for the paps. They are photographed daily in short shorts, tights and short dresses and I just find it disturbing knowing that these people are there photographing them daily. With so many young girls missing and ending up dead I’d think they’d protect them better.

    • Cirque28 says:

Huh? They’re wearing normal kid clothes! And I’m sure their parents do quite a lot to protect them, including being with them much of the time. It’s probably saner than keeping them in a tower with a crocodile-filled moat and armed guards.

  37. Day says:

    This is cute and adorable.

Jen, as always, looks like the typical, frumpy housewife. And, Ben looks like the male equivalent of one.

  38. Dusty says:

With all the crazies out there, swiping, abusing and murdering children, I don’t know why anyone would put their child in a position that would expose them to the nuts like pedophiles, killers, etc. Not smart!

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Seriously? It’s a lemonade stand IN THEIR DRIVEWAY. And the parents are standing there right next to them. Are you suggesting they lock their kids up and never let them outside????

  39. Kel says:

I’ve noticed that every time these kids are photographed, they are doing something normal like non celebrity kids do such as being picked up from school, from dance class, and shopping. This is all normal stuff. It’s likely that even though Ben and Jen know the paps are around, they are going about their lives as if they are not. Dressing nice and putting on a show is not their game. It’s also admirable that the kids are usually photographed around home rather than being carted cross country and up until all hours of the night like little Suri.

  40. Rosalee says:

There are photos of nearly every celebrity’s child online, they are so familiar with being photographed it’s almost second nature to see people running with cameras or strangers screaming and running up to their parents begging for a photo or to sign something – maybe this is a way of normalizing an everyday situation for the kids.
they are adorable – so cute..

  41. Cerulean says:

It’s sweet. They have to let them do fun things and the paps are a part of their lives. Of course they know it looks good but it’s Hollywood and image is everything.

My only gripe is why did a nanny need to be there? Couldn’t Ben and Jen handle it alone. Just a nitpick but….

  42. ViloDeMenus says:

I love the way they try to give the kids really normal childhood experiences in an abnormal atmosphere. Shame on the paps for haunting these kids.

  43. sandra says:

    So cute!!!

  44. DUane says:

they’re not bunny slippers, they’re sheep lol

  45. Xantha says:

I’m with Ava on this one. With any other celeb this would be dismissed as an obvious photo op. Why should Jen and Ben be the exception? They play the fame game like the rest, they just play it more to the tune of being a “Happy Normal Family.”
