Barack Obama votes along with a lot of other Americans

This video is almost comically long and the commentators on The Today Show tell us not to get discouraged to vote

Barack Obama cast his vote this morning before 8am at an elementary school in his Chicago neighborhood. He voted along with his wife, Michelle, and brought his two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. When he was done filling out his paper ballot, Obama was met with applause and said “I voted.”

Obama was in Virginia last night speaking to a crowd of 90,000 people. He will head to Indiana tonight for another rally and back to Chicago to wait for the results. Obama will play basketball as he waits, which is a little superstition he has while he’s waiting for election results.

Obama’s running mate Joe Biden voted in Delaware (link has automatic video) this morning at 9 am EST with his wife, daughter and mother. He presumably voted for himself twice – for Vice President and for the Senate.

John McCain will vote tonight at 11:00 pm Eastern time in Phoenix, Arizona. Sarah Palin will vote in Alaska and fly back to Phoenix to join McCain.

Obama maintains a comfortable lead in the polls and is largely expected to win. As they mention in the video above of Obama voting, no matter who becomes President it will be historic. Obama would be America’s first African American President and McCain would bring the first female Vice President to the White House.

There are long lines at many polling places throughout the country as people wait to get a chance to vote in this important election. It’s an exciting time in America. You don’t need a gossip blogger telling you this – but don’t forget to vote and hang in there if you have to wait. It’s worth it.

Yes to Obama ! No to Prop 8 ! ( for those of us in California )

  5. dude says:

I wish i had more to choose from. two douchebags are not a good option! ๐Ÿ™

  6. Anni says:

    Whatยดs prop 8?

  7. Syko says:

Anni, Proposition 8 makes marriage only for one man, one woman. Here in Florida we have a Proposition 2 that is a constitutional amendment to say the same thing. Other than the obvious stupidity of it, male/female marriage is already the law here, the amendment is redundant.

In Hawaii, today is a state holiday. It’s great to be able to vote any time during the day, not having to worry about going before or after work. The main reason for this is the state encourages people to work in the voting process, such as volunteering at the polls. More states should do that. Go Obama and Go Hawaii!

  9. Anni says:

so itยดs a proposition against gay marriage? i thought gay marriage is legal in california. hm. anyways. go VOTE!

  10. ER says:

Washington state is all absentee ballot – which is nice to vote from the comfort of your home with no rush or pressure. The downside is you don’t get those “I voted” stickers – bummer ๐Ÿ™

  11. vdantev says:

Today in my home state we had to vote on an “English only” public meeting clause. But the language was stupidly vague, so I voted NO.

  12. NicoleB. says:

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…. They won’t allow people like me to get married because I’m in a long-term monogamous relationship with another woman, but people like Pamela Anderson and countless others are allowed to make a mockery of the whole marriage thing, getting married numerous times. Why not start limiting people to only being able to get married once in their lifetime and see how quickly people might change their minds . ๐Ÿ‘ฟ ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

  13. Syko says:

We can choose to vote absentee, which I always do, as it’s easier to try to make heads and tails of the language of those propositions in the comfort of your home. This year they opened up early voting a couple of weeks ago, and you can vote at the library as well as other places. Still, the lines are amazingly long. I was talking to one guy last night who, on a Sunday, waited almost 2 hours in line at one of the libraries. I think it’s fantastic that we are all waking up and realizing that voting is important!

Yep, Anni, that’s what it is. And it’s a damn shame. We need to start encouraging love, no matter where it’s found, to try to counteract some of the hate that’s going around.

  14. Diva says:

    I got my sticker!

In Washington state there are only two counties that you actually go in to vote, every other county in the state is by mail vote only, for all elections. It makes those lines non-existent, that’s for sure. You can wait until election day and go in and drop your already filled out and double enveloped ballot into the box. There were two people ahead of me and two who walked in as I was done. No waiting. Although, no amount of waiting would have kept me from voting today.

    OBAMA!

*edit – ER… if you wait until election day and take your absentee ballot to the polling place, you get a sticker! I’m wearing mine now. {=0)

  15. ER says:

We sent our ballots in early, but I keep hoping they’ll put the sticker in the envelope so we can proudly display it on election day!

  16. Syko says:

Diva, it was like that in Oregon too, very convenient. I’d love to see all states go to mail voting – although Florida seems to be leaning toward it, with the option to vote absentee for whatever reason, and the new early voting which they just started.

I got two stickers! My absentee ballot was returned to the Elections office by my lovely postal carrier (who also returns mail to Social Security and really has me messed up on that) and they sent me a new one, which didn’t arrive until last Tuesday and I was afraid to mail it back, so dropped it off at the Elections office and the woman who took it gave me a sticker to wear that day, and one for today.

But I lost the one for today! Waaaaah!

    Voted in Connecticut–very easy–no line!

Voted NO for Question 1 (our version-sorta, of CA’s prop 8)

  18. Kaiser says:

The lady at my polling place had run out of “I voted” stickers – that’s how many people showed up in my little conservative corner of Virginia.

    GOBAMA!!!!!! (And Go Mark Warner!!!)

  19. Leandra says:

So backward in the US…21st century….duh!!! If a gay couple are paying taxes like everyone else why would they not have equal rights? Very unfair to discriminate like that.

  20. Syko says:

A great many of us agree with you, Leandra. But so far the Bible-thumpers are keeping us in the 18th century.

  21. prissa says:

I “Barack”ed the Vote!! Waited 2 1/2 hrs, no biggie! Can hardly wait for the results! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜†

  22. MonicaBee says:

This little gun-totin’, anti-war, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage SC liberal BARACKed it after a 3.5 hour wait.

And ordered Buck’s Pizza while waiting in line, then saw Papa John’s deliver five freebies as I was leaving. ๐Ÿ˜†

  23. emmma says:

    OMG!!!
Im so hoping that Obama wins!
    GOBAMA!

  24. aleach says:

ugh i really cant wait for this whole election to be OVER! but i know we’ll still be hearing about it until…well, forever!
i waited 2 1/2 hrs to vote and am SO glad i did! it was my first time voting. i could have voted in the 04 election, but i guess i was naive and didnt really think my vote would matter. i have never been so inspired by a politician as i am with Obama!!!
i will be on edge all day and nite until the final results are in…its gunna be a rough day…. ๐Ÿ˜†

  25. JaundiceMachine says:

    Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy.

Didn’t have to wait in line at all! Denver has been really great about setting up early voting this year, so procrastinators like myself can waltz on in, git ‘er done, and waltz on out with a fancy new sticker.

We packed a lunch, just in case though. Ended up having a picnic near an MLK memorial – I hope it brings some extra good karma for my candidate. Not that he needs it.

  26. Jackie says:

Kaiser- where in VA? Virginia Beach here

  27. lanette says:

    NICOLE you are mad funny..

    GO OBAMA, go away Palin………….
