Jessica Alba in leather Valentino: what was she thinking?

Jessica Alba’s red carpet style is usually hit or miss. Here we have a miss in a bizarre leather and chiffon Valentino dress. I really dislike both the striated ruffle skirt and the strange lace pattern around the wrists. I thought she had a tattoo there above her hand when I saw the smaller versions of these photos. She’s also carrying a Valentino clutch that looks more like a studded formal envelope it’s so large. We just saw Alba in a bikini so we know she can wear just about any style, why this? I’ll say something nice, I really like her hair and makeup. She looks effortlessly pretty and perfectly made up.

Alba was at an InStyle event leading up to the Golden Globes. Also there we have the lovely Nina Dobrev of Vampire Diaries. Whenever I see Nina I remember her amazing red dress at the Emmy Awards. She was in a pale peach and pink knee-length gown paired with a bright pink clutch. I like everything about this look except for the shoes. The color is off somehow, but still this is gorgeous.

Busy Phillips played it safe in a very plain black dress with a see-through neckline and t-strap heels. Her hair is looking a little beat, although I like that new color on her. I can’t nitpick Busy. She always looks so damn happy to be wherever she is that she’s become one of my favorites.

Just yesterday we saw American Horror Story’s Alexandra Breckenridge looking a little trashy in a too-tight too-short backless dress that looked more club wear than something you would bring to the red carpet. She was a little more demure last night, but the pattern on that dress is just overwhelmingly busy and fug. If you look closely, you can see the circles around her boobs and the triangle at her lady parts. Classy.

Valentino? Must be Lou Valentino cause that is one cheap looking frock.
    Nina looks lovely.

Jessica looks so YOUNG (though her undereye concealer situation needs some help). I really don’t care for her, but she looks ok.

Busy Phillips looks kinda crappy (a really blah dress and she seems underdressed) but she’s awesome. I haven’t seen her in anything recently (I don’t have TV), but I’ve always thought she must be a lot of fun to be around.

I have no idea who those other chicks are. But I like that the redhead is curvy.

Did Brad Goreski style this? JA was touted as his first celebrity client on his Bravo show.

If so, what was he thinking? The styling is horrible!

Nina’s dress is lovely and she wears it so well. Luv it.

Jessica’s dress would be nice if it wasn’t leather or black….or on her.

You like her makeup? Maybe it’s the pictures but you can see her concealor and she looks tired or something.

I like JA’s dress just fine, but pleez Jess either use less under-eye concealer or a shade that matches your skin — yikes!

Alba could have benefitted from a different shoe, make-up application, and a bun or a sleek pony tail. Also, what’s w/the big ole bag? She did not style herself well at all. I actually really like the dress, but Alba really brought the dress down w/the styling. I’ll forgive her though. She is probably exhausted.

Busy needs better hair and some pops of color.

Red head from American Horror Story has nice hair, make-up and shoes. Wrong earrings, wrong clutch, wrong dress. Beautiful skin.

Vampire Nina looks beautiful! She either she has a great sense of style or was smart enough to hire a great stylist. Either way, she looks lovely.

Why is the fashion world always doing dumb things like forcing leather into ruffles? I like the wrist detail on Jessica’s dress, but it would look better in any other fabric. Even burlap would look better.

I think JA’s concealer is that stuff that looks ok irl but turns white in camera flash. Her whole face looks white. Her makeup person should know this.
Btw, I like the dress! I think it would work on someone who could Wear leather and lace and not just wear it, you know?

I like all the dresses in fact except Busy. She looks squeeeeeezed in up top.

Has Jessica Alba given up? Her face is as shiny as her dress. The dress wasn’t great to start with add her hair and makeup to that….

    Everyone was just eh.

Eek. The dress isn’t the worst thing…though I kinda see the trash bag effect in it. And the make-up I’ll have to disagree on. In the first pic, my first thought was: “What’s wrong with her face?”. She looks like she’s having a Nicole Kidman moment with powder under her eyes. Loved Nina’s hair and make-up though!

nina looks great and the redhead lady looks 2nd best. alba’s dress is actually pretty but her hair made it look frumpy, same goes for the fourth girl whose name i haven’t checked

Albas dress looks awful. Hate everything about it. Her hair is just not right for a red carpet. Look like she woke up like that. She’s still cute and has a nice smile but she’s not aging very well and looks tired.

YOU LIKE her makeup???? The first thing I thought when I saw the pic was that her skin looked awful. I’m on the fence about the dress.

Yay! Nina is so lovely. I think she’s one of the prettiest young stars out there now. Also, even though it’s soapy and melodramatic, TVD is a great show.

How come we never do stars of TVD solo posts?
