Joan Rivers: “Chelsea Handler made it on her back f–king the president [of E!]”

For a while now, I’ve felt like Joan Rivers is past her prime, and I think she’s using cruelty and shtick in the place of relevancy and genuine comedy. But I recently watched her 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, and I came away from that documentary with a new respect for her. She doesn’t really make me laugh, but I admire her longevity and her will to succeed and thrive. I might have to rethink some of the harsher things I’ve said and thought about Joanie, though. Because she’s taking Chelsea Handler to task and I’m ready to cosign Joan one thousand percent.

Funny ladies Joan Rivers and Chelsea Handler are in a major feud — and it’s no joke!

Joan appeared on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show on Tuesday morning with her daughter Melissa Rivers and RadarOnline.com has the video of her attack on her fellow E! Network comedian.

“Number one, the girl made it on her back f**king the president, we all know that, of the network. Number two, she’s fine, she’s ordinary. She’s not a genius,” Joan told Howard, referring to Chelsea’s past relationship with E! President Ted Harbert.

“She’s an ordinary girl that was f**king somebody high up in the industry and they gave her a break and she’s doing okay.”

Rewind to Chelsea’s appearance on Howard’s show the day before when the 36-year-old said, “Joan Rivers? What the f**k do I care about Joan Rivers? I don’t think about her ever.”

According to Joan, the discord began at a network event in which she claims Chelsea ignored her efforts to say hello and was outright rude — but Chelsea claims it’s Joan who started it.

“Joan Rivers gets up and she’s like, I’d like to thank Chelsea Handler for giving me a career in comedy (mock laughing), and congratulations on your stage Chelsea because I don’t even have a dressing room,” Chelsea explained to Howard. “And I’m like, f**k off!”

Joan, 78, slammed back saying, “Who the f**k do you think you are? Whatever she is, she’s a drunk. I don’t wish her good luck, I don’t wish her bad luck,” Joan said. “I don’t think she’s particularly funny. But don’t you come after me, you wh*re!”

[From Radar]

Team Joan. Joan is the truth-teller in this situation. Plus, I think Chelsea took Joan’s “I don’t even have a dressing room” comment personally, when Joan likely meant it as a cut on E!, right? Whatever. Most female comedians pay homage to Joan for her decades of glass-ceiling-breaking, and it says something about Chelsea that she can’t even feign respect.

From what I’ve heard… there’s a lot of truth to it!

    • Capella says:

“Number one, the girl made it on her back f**king the president, we all know that, of the network. Number two, she’s fine, she’s ordinary. She’s not a genius…

To be fair, her numbers are quite ordinary too, so is her show. But so WHAT!

I’m disappointed in Joan. It’s not like Joan did not have to pay her dues, just like Chelsea, when she was younger. I’m pretty sure she has some skeletons in her closet as well. The only difference is, Chelsea lets all hang out there. Does not let The National Enquirer tell her dirty stories, she takes control, owns up to them, and tells them herself, because they’re her stories.

Joan has always been a bully. Way before Parasite Ebola Hilton started calling all women Bitches, Joan was calling everyone’s wife Bitch. On public television. I do admire her balls, but calm the f-ck down woman, you cannot start throwing stones, not with your past, not with your skeletons, and especially not now when your daughter is dating the porno king of the Valley!

      • Petunia says:

I think Joan was way over the top on this one. I mean, you go on national tv and claim someone made it by f’ing the president of the corporation? That’s just ugly and unnecessary. It goes beyond just a girl grudge and into the “Huh?!?” range. What set Joan off to be that ugly? So Chelsea doesn’t kiss Joan’s patootie. Hasn’t Joan received enough of that for a lifetime already? Nothing I can see that Chelsea said was worthy of that trashy of a response. Yup, that’s right, Joan. Trashy, not classy.

        Handler – 1
        Rivers – 0

      • autumndaze says:

Yet here Joan is at 78, in the headlines with this story, cementing her existence with the current generation as an icon in comedy.
And seriously, everything Rivers said was the truth. Handler DID sleep her way to her own show with the network president and everyone DOES know this.

        Rivers for the win!

      • Gigi says:

Joan’s always been over the top, but Chelsea tries her damn best to be as well. Sad thing for Chelsea is, Joan’s better at it. @Petunia, I think Chelsea is fair game for trashing after that whole “Angelina is a c*nt” episode–she finally ran into someone louder and more abrasive who’s not afraid to say that kind of crap out loud. These women can sling it at each other all day, but in the end, Chelsea will always lose because she’s the one who’s still trying to claw her way up while Joan’s pretty much done.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

Aww yeah, it’s on! Joan will cut a bitch. And yes, she did smash every damned glass ceiling for female comics and yes, what she said about Handler was TRUE.
Team Joan all the way. Joan is funnier than Chelsea any day. She practically makes me pee my pants on FP. She’ll say anything for a laugh and she has wit.
Chelsea Handler has no wit, can’t write for shite-horrid book, stupid show and is an alcoholic ho bag. I still hold it against her that I spent .99 cents on her awful book on amazon!

      • Capella says:

OriginalTiffany – I don’t mind Joan’s nastiness, I’ve gotten used to it over the years, just like you get used to Andrew Dice Clay, and appreciate it often enough, especially on Fashion Police. Oh she dares go there!

But in this case, she really shouldn’t be casting stones. Some of her skeletons might come out as well, and unlike Chelsea, who lets it hang out there for all to see, Joan has tried to hide a few hick-ups in her life. And had opted to highlight the pain her husband’s suicide had brought her.

Not a Chelsea fan, but in this case, Joan went overboard. Chelsea will be digging deep to get back at her, deeper than with 50 cent, which will not be hard to beat.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

@Capella, I remember about her husband’s suicide, and I am sure she has some skeletons, but you have to admit she is a riot on FP, AND what she said about Handler was true. I don’t really know about what else Joan has to hide, but that is one dame I wouldn’t want to piss off.
No one has been as good on the RC as Joan. I mean now we have the Praying Mantis and the Hobbit (or is he an elf) hosting it on E.
I do think much of it, the stuff about the dressing room was a dig at E, not Handler.
Chelsea admits to who her boyfriend was and she just grosses me out.
Andrew Dice Clay was so misogynistic, I think of Joan as more of a equal opportunity jokester. No one is off limits. Besides Joan still has a thriving career, what happened to Dice? She definitely has had a great run, and mocks herself often.

      • Capella says:

Well now I’m gonna have to agree with you oh great OriginalTiffany! Everything you’ve said about Joan is true. And I do love her sass. However, doubt many stars on the red carpet can take it; it’s a bit too much during such a stressful time. Great for the viewer, not so great for the rc victims!

But back to Chelsea, still feel it was uncalled for. It was a bit much over the top. And for Andrew Clay, he had gotten quite the good coverage for his turn on Entourage’s last season. Apparently, he is making a come back. God save us all!

      • OriginalTiffany says:

I’m sure it was miserable for the RC peeps, but that was what was so funny. All these stick up their asses got served by her. Too funny.
I still crack up when they show Issac Mizrahi squeeze ScarJo’s boob.
Didn’t know Clay was making a comeback-my touring with basic cable outside the US is making a dent in my viewing and gossip rag reading, hence my presence here, where the gossip is juicy and up to date and most commenters are hilarious!

      • Caz says:

I don’t mind the truth being put out there. Joan hasn’t made her career out of having afternoon tea and being nice. If Chelsea goes after her at least Joan will fire back. A lot of these so-called big mouth comedians such as Chelsea owe a lot to women such as Joan who have always shot their mouths off and have paved the way for them. I don’t agree with everything Joan has said and done. I respect her for her longevity in a tough industry and she has balls. Team Joan.

      • Agatha says:

When Chelsea called Jolie that nasty name… that was unnecessary because the battle wasn’t her’s. She can be very abrasive, unclassy and raw like K. Griffin. Kudo’s to Rivers. She played the big leagues when she called Rivers out on the playground. She can’t win this one.

      • Hamburglar says:

“I think Joan was way over the top on this one. I mean, you go on national tv and claim someone made it by f’ing the president of the corporation? That’s just ugly and unnecessary. It goes beyond just a girl grudge and into the “Huh?!?” range. What set Joan off to be that ugly? ”
Completely ironic, especially since you can substitute the name Joan for Angelina. Handler dishes it out all the time, so its well over-due for her to get it back. Especially since she calls other women c u Next Tuesdays and homewreckers when she is has done the exact same thing. Rivers can never be called classy, but shes usually spot on. About time someone called Handler out for what she truly is.

  2. tripmom says:

TEAM JOAN 100%!!! Everything she said is completely true. If anything, she was generous. To call Chelsea “ordinary” is giving her more credit than necessary.

    • brin says:

      co-sign with you.

    • lil ole me says:

TEAM JOAN! I like Handler , she is OKAY. But Joan Rivers was just telling the truth. If Chelsea is a TRUE comic, she’ll just OWN the fact she slept her way to the top. EVERY comic makes fun of themselves, and is usually what makes a comic an icon.

      • Coucou says:

Yah, Team Joan, i love me some Joan, and honestly, i don’t know which of the two close-ups above are scarier…BUT what is this about her daughter dating a porn king???

    • Camille (The original) says:

      Co-sign as well. Team Joan!

    • aprayerforthewildatheart says:

Team Joan! I used to like Handler, and she never hid the fact that she was effing the president of E! She even wrote a book about all the tricks she played on him, and others during their relationship! So, I don’t even get why she’d take offense to Joan saying the same thing she herself had said many times. As for the “I don’t even have a dressing room” comment, that was clearly a dig at E! not Handler.

What really turned me off Handler though was when she stopped making fun of ‘certain’ people, after signing with a certain agency. Handler can come back at Joan all she wants, but she’ll never be the no-holds barred bawdy broad she used to be now that certain celebs are off-limits. I’ve totally lost respect for Handler as a comedienne. She’s just another HW a$$-licker now, something that Joan, God love her, will never be.

    • Hamburglar says:

Team Joan all the way on this! After the attrocious attack on Angelina from Handler, I will support *anyone* who exposes Handler for what she is and mocks her. And lets face it, has Rivers ever been wrong in her calls? Nope. Team anyone who disses Handler. Anyone.

  3. Sakyiwaa says:

    Burn! Team Joan!

  4. Sakyiwaa says:

    Lol! Burn! Team Joan!

    • Kimbob says:

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I’m Team Joan, as well. I’d like to mention to all the bloggers that Joan’s “calling out” Chelsea shouldn’t be frowned upon because THIS IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE about Chelsea screwing the head honcho.

This is common knowledge because it’s been well over a year+, Nick Cannon got into it w/Chelsea on Twitter or some type of media network, & he was pissed at Chelsea, & he WAS THE FIRST, to my knowledge to bring this out…right to Chelsea’s face. So…Joan is just reinforcing the common knowledge already out there.

Seriously, Chelsea goes on and on about how women should “band together,” women’s rights..blah, blah…and then she disrespects an elder in her OWN PROFESSION? She’s deserving of every bit of S#%T slung at her.

Edit: Chelsea has proven time and again she will spare no expense to get more & more fame. Look at all the backs of everyone she’s stepped on already. What about the mean tricks she plays on HER OWN EMPLOYEES, then writes about it in “her books.” Seriously, Screw Chelsea!

      • Leah says:

Yeeeeah, I know someone that works for her. She apparently is a real asshole to her employees. He still seems to like her though. I don’t get it but to each their own.

  5. Erandyn says:

Wow, her face looks like it’s made of foam and latex. Cute that she tries to move it, lol.

  6. atlantapug says:

I don’t agree with Joan at all. Women in comedy need to stick together, not bash each other. Joan attacking Chelsea for “f-ing her way up” is a typical “boys club” attitude that women in Hollywood can’t make it without a powerful man. You would think Joan Rivers would take a higher road with her fellow females.
I remember Chelsea back on “Girls Behaving Badly”, not the greatest show, but Chelsea was funny. She put in her time in stand up and bit parts, if you don’t like her, fine, but let’s stick together ladies.

    • kazoo says:

Except that even Handler has admitted that she got her show because she was screwing the married president of E!

“But don’t you come after me, you whore!”— LMAO. Rivers can be quite mean, but I think nothing is mean if it’s funny enough (Eddie Haskell).

      • anon says:

lol Thanks for that memory 🙂 Eddie Haskell. Put a smile on my face. This site is fabulous, but I have to get some work done today. I was here all day yesterday couldn’t even read all the threads :-)will be back later. Glad Kaiser is back in good health to stir the pot

      • ViktoryGin says:

Not gonna happen. Here’s quote from Joan to illustrate that point:

“I was just interviewed for a documentary [Making Trouble (2007)] on my least favourite subject – women comedians and how we’ve all been kept out. These two women came to my house, very serious, and asked, ‘How long did it take for you to get into the room?’ I said, ‘Let me tell you something: if Adolf Hitler had four good jokes, he’d be in the room.’ It has to do with funny. Then they talked about how women help each other. I said, ‘I hate to tell you, but if it was between Sarah Silverman and me for a job? I’ll kill her and she’ll kill me. There’s no sisterhood in comedy.’ “

    • tripmom says:

I really hate the attitude that we have to be supportive of each other just because we’re female. It’s sexist. I think Chelsea Handler is unfunny, desperate, and sad. But I should pretend to like her just because she’s female? That’s completely disingenuous.

I think the appropriate way to support gender equality would be to treat Chelsea as an individual person, and not afford her special treatment because she’s female. None of the criticism of her stems from her gender. Plenty of guys are also drunks, also whore around, are also aging poorly, and are also untalented and unfunny.

      • Coby says:

        Word!

      • Boo says:

        Well said.

      • Nancy Perkinson says:

Your so right! I do think she’s funny but agree with you about discrimination and sexism

      • Diana Prince says:

        Co-sign!

      • Petunia says:

It’s easy to think that in today’s world. But not that many years ago women were treated like blacks in that they were segregated into certain jobs. In the late 1970’s jobs were listed as “Men’s” and “Women’s” in the local paper. Women were offered things like maid, teacher, secretary, and nurse. And those jobs paid poorly, for the most part. I kid you not. I remember looking at those jobs with a sinking heart, thinking “THIS is my future?” So women stuck together and worked together to change that attitude so folks like you wouldn’t have to face it. And it worked! Truthfully, thinking and acting only as an individual doesn’t change things.

Okay, that’s my two cents, ladies. Have a good one!

      • The Orignal Original says:

you have made a great point here and I feel the same way @ tripmom

      • NM6804 says:

        Agreed!

      • Girl says:

        Well said, Tripmom.

      • Sunshine says:

HAHAHA! The day you find a woman who won’t backstab another woman for whatever reason (usually jealousy) you better call the newspapers because you’ve just found something more rare than unicorns!

Also, I have heard that about women trying to gain “equality” from my mother and I always just rolled my eyes. She was a divorced mom and worked, so I rarely saw her and when I did she was a miserable, stressed basket case. It’s funny because I am a stay at home mother that never did anything with my life probably BECAUSE I equated college and working with turning into a joyless, bitter, forever alone bitch. She actually told me not too long ago (before we stopped speaking entirely) that she tried to be a good example for me. I laughed in her face because what is good about prizing material items and money above family? From where I’m sitting it just looked like greed and selfishness, so perhaps I got the wrong impression entirely, but “equality” just seemed like exchanging one set of chains for another. Now my mother will die alone, surrounded by her money and stuff. And she’s not the only one, so many of her friends are in the same boat, probably because they neglected their kids all so they could prove some point about how they don’t NEED a man.

Look, I’m sure it’s all good for many of you, but I’m just saying that there may be more to it than you realize now. I’m sure my mother never thought that this is where she’d end up, and I’m sure there’s a million more factors in this, but I sure wish I had had a MOTHER instead of some crusader for equality.

Sunshine, I can’t respond directly to your comment for some reason. What an amazingly depressing and awful perspective you have about other women. God.

    • Julie says:

i dont respect a woman that slept her way up.
i would agree on sticking together but not with a woman who obviously doesnt have the talent to make it for herself. why should i be 2012 to some woman when she behaves like its 1960?

    • Hamburglar says:

Try telling HANDLER that, since SHE is the one who betrayed the ladies code and went after Angelina and her children. Once she betrayed women by doing that, all bets are off. Handler did it to Angelina, so she should be able to take what she dishes out. Handler is no ‘comedian’, my letterbox has more comedic attributes than her, and is more for sisterhood than she is. All she is, is a foul-mouthed gender-betraying racist. Once Handler betrayed her gender by attacking Angelina, she severed her right to our sisterhood support.

  7. Riana says:

…so I imagine I’m a horrible person because my first reaction was, “No I can’t believe that, she’s too ugly to fucc for her career.”

Joan because she is still funny IMO, loved her responses at her jokes at the comedy central roast they did for her. Whereas Chelsea is wet paint who’s only schtick IS being cruel.

  8. JoJo says:

I can’t consider Chelsea Handler a comedienne. She’s just not funny. Her whole entire a schtick is just saying really nasty things about people in that terrible dry, sarcastic way she has. It would be fine if she was actually funny – but I feel like she has zero talent. I don’t always think Joan is funny, but I do respect her career and her drive, etc. and also the path she forged for others so long ago. Chelsea is just a huge waste of broadcast air.

    • Sunshine says:

I agree, but it doesn’t seem to be just Chelsea. When did ALL comedy become so nasty? If it isn’t vile sex-act or excrement related stuff, it’s vicious attacks. I know I’m a lame prude and I clutch my pearls like 50x a day but I don’t understand how any of this stuff is considered funny. I was watching “The Bob Newhart Show” the other day and I was STUNNED at how nasty things have gotten since then. But IMO, ALL tv is pretty horrid. I cannot understand why people want to watch horrible things. Is it just me?

  9. lucy2 says:

Those are 2 faces I didn’t need to see this early!
The sad part is, Chelsea’s earlier show that had skits and stuff was actually funny. The more successful she’s gotten, the far less funny she’s become.
I don’t find Joan all that funny either, but I too saw that documentary and had some respect for how much she still does.

  10. yoyo99 says:

  13. Maya says:

Joan Rivers is a star in her own right. She is a successful scriptwriter as well as a comedian, so I think she has a right to say something about the vile alco.
Who remembers her classic film with Stockard Channing, The Girl Most Likely To…
That film depicted a woman’s predicament and the issues (weight, appearance) are still relevant today.
What has the other vulgarity done? Nothing but host a lame talk show and be Jennifer Aniston’s ‘friend’.

  14. Cirque28 says:

Joan came into a place where I was working once. She seemed like a total alpha female, and I absolutely mean that as a compliment.

    • Lissa says:

Awesome! That probably would have made my day 🙂

I always say that when I’m an old lady, I”ll entertain myself by being just as crazy as her. Old ladies kinda get a pass, because once you’re a memaw and have lived a long life, you just kinda earn a VIP card, you know?

  15. Lucy says:

Chelsea looks almost the same age as Joan….

  16. lisa says:

I think regarding Handler. if you dish it out.. then be ready to get it back in your face. She talks about others and when she is the target it is different. I saw her show a couple of times when she was saying how the tabloids were printing lies about her and her celebrity friends; saying how untrue the stories were and I had to do a WTF. because the premise of her show (at least at the beginning) was reading and discussing the tabloids. that is what she did. And she talked about them and the people they were about as if they were true. YET when it was about her and her buddies it was a lie.

double standard. Not to mention she skirts over tabloid stories about her “friends”. Joan is a bitch; an old school bitch. But she is an equal opportunity bitch. If you are going to attack people don’t stop at your buddies. It just gives the impression that you are bought. Well I think actually Handler was.

  17. Fetch80 says:

Why should anyone respect Joan? She’s trash! Team Chelsea

    • Lissa says:

Because she paved the way for women like Chelsea to be sharp-tounged comedians. Plus Chelsea started it the day before when she trashed her on the same show, what did she expect? That she was going to get bullied around like her other “victims”, HA! Joan came in the next day and showed her why SHE is the ORIGINAL HBIC!

      Joan is not the one

  18. Str8Shooter says:

From one vile C-NT to another!

And she is REALLY starting to resemble the puppet from Wayland Flowers and Madame.

  19. Fetch80 says:

I dislike Joan ever since she referred to Michelle Obama as Blackie O, racist much?

    • OriginalTiffany says:

Oh, please. She says shit like that about every color, creed, and gender, including her own. It’s COMEDY. She makes fun of Jews, fat girls, skinny girls, black, even Jesse James and his Hitler thing. I refuse to be so sensitive about so little.

How many black comics are over the top racist or say racist things? Black comics? Katt Williams, Eddie Murphy, etc. Are we that f’ing touchy? You gotta admit the way Michelle styles herself is a little reminiscent of Jackie, no?

      • Noi says:

how you feel and how she/he feels are two different things and shouldn’t mix the two
it’s only speaking for how it feels

    • Hamburglar says:

Yet Handler attacks Angelina’s adopted black children, and thats ok with you? At least Joan was joking and wasn’t nasty or vicious about it and didn’t pick on innocent children. Handler is a racist.

  20. Agnes says:

I can’t stand Chelsea, but Joan is so awful too, this really seems like a no-win situation.

  21. Boo says:

TEAM JOAN. I heard her interview on Howard, and her story sounded absolutely plausible. Chelsea started this whole thing on Howard the day before, and Joan was responding with her side–which made a lot more sense.

The only thing I don’t likeabout Joan is that she is friends with Prince Charles and camilla Rottweiler, and I ***loathe*** those two. She did tell an amusing story on Howard about going to Williamsburg, Birginia with her friends, Cindy Adams and Judge Judy. Can you imagine?

  22. Alaina says:

I love Joan. I can’t stand Handler. I am therefore perfectly happy with this story. 🙂

  23. Capella says:

Team no one. Joan should know better.

  24. Snappyfish says:

Joan forged her career during the ultimate boys club in showbiz. Perfect example, when she took the offer for her own late night talk show, Johnny Carson cut her off & never spoke to her again. She earned her dues by work & she did pace the way for others (Kathy Griffin & Margaret Cho always mention that along with legends like Lucille Ball & Phillis Diller)

Chelsea has written some fairly funny books. She did get to where she is by banging the boss (married boss at that, not really being part of the girl’s club as someone alluded to above) I don’t find her particularly funny & I think her attacks on Angelina Jolie when she was sideling up to Jennifer Aniston were crass.

The thing is that Handler is sensitive to the fact she got her gig by banging the boss, & wasn’t enlightened enough to realize Joan was poking fun, not at her, but at E!

I heard both women on the Howard Stern Show this week & Chelsea went so far as to say how funny it was that she got a DUI at 21. Class act, this one. She also stated how important being famous is to her. She should enjoy it as it has a short shelf life, since she is no longer banging the boss.

    • Sassy says:

In addition, Joan is a cultured and educated woman. Her Faberge collection rivals Malcolm Forbes. She has exquisite taste and is a normal person who made it much like Barbara Walters did. Her public persona is her “stage” face, and she is truly hysterical. I could not believe how risque her live performances are. She is also a savvy, savvy business person. Team Joan – I really admire her energy level for her age also.

  25. blc says:

Team Joan all the way. Everything that came out of her mouth is just true. There is no way around that. Chelsea is a mean ugly old bitch who dishes it out but can’t take it. And i still think joan is funny. She is hilarious on Fashion Police.

  26. Diana Prince says:

Chelsea ought to think twice about who she riles up.

Maybe she should sticking to picking on innocent kids. One of the three things she is clearly good at… the other two being a guzzler and a floozy.

  27. Darlene says:

Joan Rivers’ “A Piece of Work” should have won an Oscar. Truly. It was amazing.

  28. mln76 says:

First off Joan may be a annoying and played out but she’s earned her career. Watch a Piece of Work that woman is a pioneer and doesn’t give up. Chelsea should be bowing down to her.
Second Chelsea fully admits to fucking her way into that shitty show. Pointing out the truth isn’t crass or mean it’s just pointing out the truth.
Third look at that horrible sitcom on NBC soon enough Chelsea is going to be back in the heap of trash she belongs in. I give it 5 years until people are saying Chelsea WHO? and watching her descent will be pure entertainment. Especially because I think she’s the type to take her friends down with her.

  29. Toot says:

Team Joan! Chelsea always says crap about people, and I love that Joan gave it right back to her with the truth.

A DJ I listen to was talking about this story this morning and both him and his co-host agreed with Joan because they had met Chelsea too and she is just rude to people.

  30. TheOriginalKitten says:

“…and I think she’s using cruelty and shtick in the place of relevancy and genuine comedy.”

    EXACTLY.

  31. spinner says:

It’s women like these that give women a bad name.

  32. GirlyGirl says:

DOes it matter that I couldn’t give a crap about either of them?

  33. Kimlee says:

    Team Joan!

Chelsea is nothing but a hypocritical B who slept with her married boss and made a sex tape and relest it for attention but than talks crap about other people like it ok for her to do it because she above it and them.

Ya Joan a B at times but she owns it she talk about herself and her plastic surgery and if her friends look like crap she going to say so not ass kissing like Chelsea.

    • Kimbob says:

You are right! Oh wow…I’m still laughing at, ‘Don’t you come after me, you whore.’ Oh So RICH! I just LOVE it! Seriously, Chelsea picked the WRONG B to mess with, for REALZ!!!

  34. Maritza says:

At least Joan Rivers is funny, Chelsea Handler is NOT!

  35. CJ says:

The most outrageous thing that stands out to me is that bag claiming to be 36!!

    • Tracy9s says:

So right CJ!! Whatever she has on the President of E! it has to be good. Good like he woke up in bed with a dead whore and Chelsea helped him get rid of the body good. He got her a job, and he got her a new birth certificate as payment. There is no way she is 36!! She is 46 maybe. If she is 36, those are 36 very hard years.

  36. Jaded says:

I’m old enough to remember Joan Rivers debuting on the Johnny Carson show and she was hilarious. Unfortunately she has replaced genuine comedy with cheap shots and low-brow, hateful taunting, and even if she is right about Chelsea boning the boss, what business is it of hers to blather it all over the place like she’s the morality police? All this from a woman whose daughter is dating a porn mogul….*shakes head*

  37. Nev says:

    hmmmm.

they both have the exact same type of mean humor. perhaps they are too alike to ever be friendly.

  38. meme says:

Chelsea is a Kim K. girl. Use what you got to get where you’re going. That’s her only talent.

  39. Sal says:

I dont like Chelsea but she’s never denied she got a show because of her boyfriend. In fact she’s made tons of jokes about it

  40. The Original Mia says:

    Well…she ain’t lying.

  41. Every female comedian owes Joan and the documentary is great viewing. Joan will be the first to admit her best days are behind her and she even acknowledges that Kathy Griffin has stolen her schtick.

    • Coucou says:

I disagree, no one’s best days are ever behind them, unless they deem it so, and this woman does not seem to be some weak ass pansy pants, i don’t care who or what she’s talking shit about, she is an INSPIRATION and i admire her chutspah, even if it is spiteful from time to time, who doesn’t know that feeling? I myself wouldn’t wanna rumble with her. Also, what’s her face has STOLEN her schtick? Nah, she’s just capitalizing and rolling with it, schtick is universal and if you got it, you got it, otherwise, you’re just another Chelsea bonking the boss for airplay.

Let’s get ready to rumble! Would LOVE to see the two of them inside a mud ring…

  42. Tiffany says:

Chelsea made it on to Glamour’s Women of the Year issue without a hint of irony. All the things that were written about is the opposite of what this woman is and what the magazine claims to be. Yeah, they chucked it with her. Chelsea does not know what it’s like to break the glass ceiling, just to work the director’s couch.

  43. ella says:

Team Chelsea!!!!!! Why are people talking crap about chelsea talking shit about people when Joan does the same?she’s just jealous

  44. Just U says:

At least Joan can take a bit of stick, when its deserved. Her main target, and best put downs, are herself. She really does tell it like it is, warts and all. She knows what its like to be the ‘ugly duckling’ and mocked, but she also knows that it takes a tremendous amount of hard work to not only make it to the top, but to stay there.
Handler is just an ageing high school mean girl who can dish it out but can’t take it.
‘A piece of work’ is a really well made, honest film that could teach Handler a few things about earning a living.

  45. Dawn says:

Team Joan all the way! Handler is not funny, is not creative and is not a talent. She simply worked hard enough to find a guy that would do her and bring her to the top. When she is Joan’s age, the next generation will wonder how in the hell this woman got anywhere and say the same thing about her that she said about Joan. Go Joan!

  46. irishserra says:

Duh. I that was a given.

  47. Just U says:

Also, I LOVE the idea of Joan Rivers and Judge Judy being friends. I bet there’s some serious cackling going on when they get together.

  48. mia girl says:

Team I Find Them Both Annoying.

  49. Twez says:

It’s about time someone told the truth about that talentless bitch.

  50. foozy says:

    joan’s funny. chelsea’s a cheap shot!

  51. Ogechi says:

Team none actually. Not a fan of any.

  52. TG says:

I watch the Fashion Police for Joan’s comedy. She might be mean but so are we on here and it makes me laugh.

  53. nan says:

Yeah!! Go get her Joan. I can’t stand that cheap booze-hound!!! She’s not a comedian; she loves to sound off on her show about what irks her in life.

  54. Bellaboo says:

And Melissa is successful because of her talent. I don’t care for Chelsey or Joan. I especially dislike Melissa.

  55. corny says:

    let the dames begin!

  56. Rada says:

team joan all the way! love that woman!

  57. Dibba says:

    Ew, Chelsea is super ugly.

  58. Pop Rocks says:

They’re both annoying. But in Chelsea’s defense, she’s made a ton of jokes about how she got the show because of her boyfriend. Like Joan, she targets herself more than anyone. Perhaps Joan’s a little jealous that nowadays their style of comedy earns a lot more money than it did back in Joan’s day.

Also, didn’t Joan’s husband literally kill himself to get away from her? And didn’t she milk his death for more than a decade? She might not have slept her way to the top, but It doesn’t get much lower than that in my opinion. And let’s face it, her daughter would have no career in showbiz if it weren’t for dear old mom. Melissa’s career is the definition of nepotism.

    • Jaded says:

Edgar Rosenfeld actually committed suicide as a result of “side-effect” depression he suffered from medication he was taking for a severe heart condition. In his suicide tape for Joan he was actually very loving and apologetic but said he couldn’t go on in ill health, either physically or mentally.

    • Guesty says:

“Also, didn’t Joan’s husband literally kill himself to get away from her?”

You need to be really deeply ashamed of yourself. Even as an internet commenter, you should be disgusted with yourself for posting this.

  59. neelyo says:

Chelsea Handler is nothing but Brett Butler 2.0. And just like Butler, she’s going to flame out hard. She just seems so angry all of the time. Something’s not quite right there.

I’ve lost track of how many comebacks Rivers has had in my lifetime and I’m only in my 40s. She’s a phoenix, that one.

  60. djork says:

Phyllis Diller is the true shatterer of comedy’s glass ceiling. Joan Rivers made her career as a self-loathing (“I’m so ugly!”), bitter, practitioner of cruel comedy. She can be funny and she’s certainly tenacious, but at what cost? She strikes me as a miserable, lonely person. (What little I’ve seen of Handler makes Rivers look good by comparison.)

    • Pop Rocks says:

I completely agree with your take on this. And Joan has gotten more and more bitter as the years go on. No wonder she burned every bridge in Hollywood.

      • Guesty says:

In the last year alone, Rivers has been on Letterman, on Conan and on “Louis.” That reality pretty neatly eviscerates the baseless claim you make about her having burned every bridge. You may wish it, but it’s not true.

  61. mel says:

I have never found Chelsea funny and have always been perplexed why she has her own show. It totally makes sense what Joan says. I love Joan..she is hilarious and smart.

  62. Elizabeth says:

I love Joan Rivers. I have her book “Bouncing Back” and it helped get me through a rough time in my life with a few laughs along the way. But I would never sit in the front row at one of her shows – I am too scared-y-cat for that! To be in the front means to be in (the subject of) the jokes. Too much for me!

  63. Deev says:

There is no way that Chelsea Handler is only 2 years older than I am. Yikes.

    • teri says:

Chelsea is a drunk and does drugs, it’s taken a huge toll on her looks.

      • Caz says:

Yep. I’m 41 and every time I see Handler I’m shocked at how old she looks. There’s no way she’s under 40.

    • Lindsey G. says:

Banging your way to the middle takes a lot of work. That’s probably why she looks so tired all the time.

  64. Kara Ann says:

Just a random thought about the portion of Handler’s show that is the “round table”:

I think that it somewhat compares to what we posters do here in that everyone says what they want and there is plenty of snark. I remember watching her show in the beginning and being surprised at what she and the panelists said but I also thought that this is closer to how people “talk” on the internet about celebs.
As to whether or not the comedy goes too far or is just mean-spirited, that’s a different discussion. Certainly, not everyone thinks that it is funny. I’ve watched a few episodes and, at times, I find Chelsea and/or the panelists very funny. I don’t think that what she does it very different from Ricky Gervais’ original Golden Globes show. I do think that it is more easily accepted by the public when male comedians do the “offensive” schtick. If I’m not mistaken, could be don’t know, isn’t Handler’s show successful?
As for Joan Rivers, I admire her for her tenacity. I watched the documentary about her and found it sad, fascinating, and inspirational by turns. I will say that even my husband will watch an episode of the fashion police occasionally only because he cannot believe that she says some of the things that she does. He will literally shake his head at her (and laugh)!
I’m “team” no one on this one. They can both dish it and take it. That’s whats made each of their careers.

    • mln76 says:

Disagree totally. I find Kathy Griffin funny and she’s mean about celebrities but she’s honest and no one is exempt from her derision-Joan is pretty much the same although her act has gotten a bit tired. Chelsea is spiteful, and fake and only targets celebs that aren’t her friends. She can dish it out but she can’t take it.
And her jokes on vodka, sex, and midgets are the intellectual equivalent of lame fart jokes.

      • Kara Ann says:

        *Shrugs shoulders*
I’m not sure exactly what you disagree with.
I’m not getting up in arms defending either Joan, Chelsea, Ricky, or Kathy Griffin. They are comedians. To me, all of them are sometimes funny and sometimes not.
If you’re point is that Chelsea can’t take what she dishes out…could be and if that’s the case then it’s funny to me that another comedian would call her out on that! As far as not making spite-filled jokes about her friends…well, yeah I think that you’re right. It would be difficult to keep a friend that you talked sh*t about and she does do that. I just feel like that’s pretty normal. I agree too that the vodka and midget jokes are pretty stupid.
*shrugs again* I don’t really care about her one way or another and I can def see why some people really don’t like her (esp. AJ fans).

      • mln76 says:

@Kara Ann I should have been more clear this is the statement I disagree totally with

‘I don’t think that what she does it very different from Ricky Gervais’ original Golden Globes show. I do think that it is more easily accepted by the public when male comedians do the “offensive” schtick.’

I genuinely believe in Chelsea’s case her ‘jokes’ are meant to be personal attacks that’s my problem with her not that she’s a woman. She’s engaged in about a dozen Twitter wars with a slew of celebs and she basically admitted that if she likes someone they are off the table. Contrast that with Kathy G who hangs out with celebs but doesn’t pull any punches with anyone. Or Ricky G who also (in his second GG appearance) pulled no punches with any celebs regardless of whether or not they were his ‘friends'(AKA have the same PR rep).

  65. Jaime says:

I’m not a slut shamer, but I do think it is slutty to fuck someone for a job/promotion. Chelsea really did fuck the president of E! and then mocked him in her stand up routine. If had been discreet about her relationship with him, then I would feel sorry for her…But the way she portrayed her relationship with him and the mocking makes her the definition of a slut in my opinion. Plus, she is racist as hell….Remember that interview about 50 cent and then her “grape soda” joke at Nick Cannon.

  66. teri says:

Can’t stand Handler-BLAH. Get her Joan, won’t blame you at all if you curb stomp her trampy a..!

  67. Francesca says:

    Team Joan all the way.

  68. Jayna says:

Chelsea’s talk show is great. Her standup routine not so good. Fashion Police or whatever it’s called that Joan moderates with Guilianna and Kelly Osbourne, Joan is hysterical. She keeps them and me cracking up every show. Joan is a brilliant comedienne.

  69. Tweakspotter says:

Joan is a LEGEND! Chelsea isn’t even in the top 10 in my mind. She’s snarky not funny…BIG difference. She should BOW DOWN to Joan. I was wondering why this BLAH chick was getting her own show and now a show about her…WTF? Who are you and why again?? Well Joan answered that question LOL!

  70. iseepinkelefants says:

    Team Joan.

And that documentary made me love her even more.

I don’t find Handler funny. Maybe it’s a West/East Coast thing. I don’t know but her commedy doesn’t make laugh.

  71. Kim says:

I dont hate Chelsea but Joan is right. Chelsea is not that talented or funny and never would have gotten her own show without dating the network Pres. But hey MANY celebs have slept their way to the top. This is unfortunately par for the course in Hollyweird.

  72. Noi says:

i don’t care if she f*cked all of hollywood that may get you in the door but it wont keep it open what are they gonna do pay ppl to watch your shows? come on ppl watch her buy her books etc. she i just as rude as joan

  73. kimberly says:

She’s on her 2nd E show and did one on lifetime or some shit before that. She toured cities doing shows. ALL WERE REALLY FUNNY.

I think Joan Rivers is a jealous bitch.

I may not watch her show since all the high school kids found it years ago, but I still think she’s funny.

  74. Marie says:

Yeah, women shouldn’t have to support other women just because they’re women. That’s why I don’t support nor respect liberal women. They are all commies destroying the country via their victimhood, and these two “comediennes” are liberal hacks.

  75. Orange Cone says:

    dude. joan’s eighty or something…

  76. whatevs says:

i like joan because she says it like it is. like we didn’t know this about chelsea the drunk grandmother already. she was the one who said she’s so bored of jeniston and her stupid movies and stupid hair and then jeniston bought her a holiday like she did for former enemy chelsea, but unlike chelsea who suddenly became the best bff that money can buy, joan kept talking shit about jeniston. which is why i applaud to her.

  77. Beatriz says:

Team Joan, she was just telling the truth. And to be fair, Chelsea has said far worse shit in her comedy routines.

  78. SkyNet says:

Joan might be a bitch, but Chelsea is a trashy drunk ass ho. She’s not even funny. Joan can at least make fun of her self and have a good time. She’s an icon and will be remembered for a long time. I forget about Chelsea until she appears somewhere drunk, or says some jackass BS.

    Team Joan!!!

  79. Jules says:

Come on, Joan doesn’t spare anyone with her comedy…and neither does Chelsea.
So with that being said, I think Chelsea should have laughed it off and shown a bit more respect.

  80. HoustonGrl says:

Ooooooo now I get it. I always wondered how the hell someone as boring, crass, and plain as Chelsea Handler could land their own show.

  81. Shaz says:

    Same network – fake feud

    • Sassy says:

You are not the first person to suggest this. Of course it is for ratings, plus Joan’s Reality Show had its first show of this season yesterday. There is no bad publicity.

  82. Jin says:

Ofcourse Kaiser is going to cosign Joan after hating Chelsea Handler. Kaiser is an Angelina Jolie fanatic and Chelsea called out Angelina for being a c word who does not want to be a girl’s girl and have female friends because she wants to be the queen bee.

    • whatevs says:

i don’t think kaiser is an angelina fanatic, she makes fun of her too. then again you can be a fan of someone and make fun of them “with love” but a fanatic could never do that. fanatics are such stans. no fun.

  83. bagladey says:

Team Joan. CH is an upstart and Joan Rivers is an icon.

  84. Julia says:

If Chelsea can dish it out and call other women ‘Ho’ using the excuse of being a comedian, she must be able to take it too like a real comedian.

Fact is. She is as trash as the Kardashian chick for capitalizing on a sex tape and a prostitute for using sex and her married boss to land a show then mocking him and dumping him like a dirty sock when she got what she wanted.

She has some massive nerves and some huge ego to insult other women wHen she is the epitome of crass, whore and trash through and through, thinking she’s above it all and immune to the same treatment like her shiit doesn’t stink !.

How does it feels to be call a WHORE, Chelsea ? Does it hurt ? Well it’s long over due for a notorious child abuser who doesn’t hesitate using racist and sexual insults towards kids with no moral boudaries whatsoever. Trailer trash to the core ! i don’t remembered any comedian crossing that line as using children as fair game…Not evern mean Joan.

Now take it like a big girl and a so called professional just like all those you have insulted much much more did it.

Hate Joan with a passion, but she was the right person to get this trashy nasty drunkard Ho a taste of her own medicine.

Team Joan on this one !

  85. Lisa says:

Melissa Rivers is a virtual twin to Gary Dell’Abate.

  86. Lindsay says:

The way Joan made her argument was immature. If she doesn’t like Chelsea, fine, but it shows Joan’s character to attack someone and call them things like “whore” in front of the whole world. Pathetic.

  87. Thelma says:

Chelsea is trashy and not funny. Team Joan all the way. She cracks me up!

  88. Anon says:

Oh please, Joan. Keep smacking that Handler drunken ho down. I love it, power to the truth! Long live Joan Rivers.

  89. Ally says:

Joan Rivers is a tough broad and that is why I have always liked her.

  90. Peg says:

I had enough of Joan when we all got a load of her on Celebrity Apprentice. Ok, we get it, you’ll do anything to protect (promote) your daughter and your career. You’re a real tiger to tangle with. Chelsea isn’t playing that and doesn’t care.

  91. flamingo says:

The things that irritate us most about others are flaws we see in ourselves.

  92. kris says:

Team RIVERS! Chelsea Handler is disgusting to look at, and not all that funny. Joan is fierce and I don’t care if she does looks like Gollum, I love that crazy bitch!

  93. anoni says:

Wasn’t Joan responding to something nasty Handler said the day before? Still, she better watch her sagging butt, Handler has the Huvane bros as co-signers of her bank acct. The 3rd one publishes GQ, Mens Health (where do you think that “of all time” came from?), and I’m sure the one Handler was actually on a “pretty” list (but, of all time?). Nah, she doesn’t pay that much money, not yet. I actually used to like her show but she sold out. Bigger guests come with a price, I guess. Just keep trash talking the JPs, idolize Aniston/Witherspoon (who else is on that list Steve?) and the show goes on.

  94. Mara says:

They both make a lot of jokes on other people but they should look to themselves in the mirror first .Ugly souls.

  95. truthful says:

Joan told the truth and she can say whatever she wants to say–she has paid her dues.

Handler is a non funny alcoholic piece of sleaze. she gives me the sleazy/greasy old man vibe and she’s not even old.

when her E bid is over, she’ll never be invited to the circuits that Joan has been on.

Cause she is not funny, she’s obnoxious and swarmy. yeech.

  96. Daniel says:

She is the younger version of Joan. And Joan knows it and is threatened by the competition. BUT, in the entertainment circles you shouldn’t piss off any icons or legends, its just bad form. That being said, however, Joan is irrevelant these days and Chelsea is not. Joan should know her place and go away and die quietly.

  97. Grandizer says:

Joan sucks, I have not liked anything she has said or done in more then 15 years.
She is a has been that gets by on putting people or their fashion down.
Her Red Carpet shows are full of it. Her putting down people and what they are wearing is a symptom of her wannabe. Almost every actor or actress is wearing clothes that were picked for them by a designer or a company that is paying them in some fashion to wear their clothing. For her to be complaining about the talent is ridiculous.
I am Team Chelsea over Plastic face EVERY DAMN DAY OF THE YEAR.

Joan and her daughter are has beens and in the daughters case a never was.

The difference between Chelsea and Joan? Chelsea has no problem saying she slept with the boss to get where she is.
More power to Chelsea. I know where the laughs are, and who gets them.

  98. skeptical says:

given how often chelsea goes after celebs, I think it’s just perfect that someone just as well known, if not better known, has now seen fit to treat chelsea just as chelsea has treated others.

    Team Joan Rivers.
